RE: My A-10 Warthog Project
W. O. W. !! I'm totally new to RC ( as anything other than a spectator ). My litle brother ( Big Brother Org ) and I have been reviving an old plane so I joined these forums. The A-10 is by far my favorite aircraft so I did a search on here to see if anyone ever thought of making one. Holy Schmokes, Batman! This is an INCREDIBLE build you have going, MDParsh! I'm glad I'm a total newb or it would be very hard to resist trying to make one myself. I know my limitations and am not about to surpass them... yet. Wonderful thread with great pics and conversation(s). I'll just sit back and live vicariously through you. My hat's off to FLYPUCK and you others who are also working or have completed A-10 builds. They all look great. -BEP

RE: Merco 61 - carbon date it?
Thanks for ALL the great information on this engine! When we took it apart to clean it up, the gasket for the backplate(?) was destroyed. After cleaning, we reassembled it and used silicon instead of a gasket. I didn't take the cylinder head off because I figured I'd mess up a gasket there, too. But, I'd like to get it off and clean this engine all the way. Is it still possible to get gaskets for these engines? I don't want to go the route of cuting my own, if possible. -BEP

Merco 61 - carbon date it?
( I posted this in another forum and it was suggested I post it here ) Hello, all. New member here - new to both RC and rcuniverse.com. I'm a Big Brother in the BBrother / BSister organization and my 'little' mentioned that RC planes was something he was interested in. I had a friend that had 2 old planes ( trainer types ) so I called him and he donated them to us. We've spent some time cleaning them up, getting new batteries, etc. and we finally got to the point where we were ready to fire the engines over. A local RC club member was kind enough to help us out; he bolted the engines down, fed them some gas and they both fired up with very little trouble. After some adjustments, they were purring like a bees nest. One of them is an old Merco 61 ( dual glow plug ) and I was wondering how I would find out how old this thing is. I found a site that had some Merco engine history and it looks like they started producing this Mark II in '63-'64, but I don't see anything that says when they stopped making this model or if there's a way to date it. Here are two pics of the engine: [link=http://brianandkit.com/john/engine_02b.jpg]Off the plane, no muffler[/link] [link=http://brianandkit.com/john/engine_john_block02.jpg]Off the plane, muffler on, fired up[/link] Any clue how to find the age on this thing? TIA, -BEP
