RE: HL-Tiger 1: Turret center point
No, it will not. Because the recoil is statik. It doesn´t move up and down with the barrel. And the brackeds to mount it are not effected from this modification. Greetings Birger

HL-Tiger 1: Turret center point
Hi guys, today you are going to correct one of the most important failures of the HL-Tiger. What´s this failure about? Well, lets talk about some basics, here. The turret of the Tiger is shaped like a round tin with a nose at the front. Normally the center point of the turret is equal to the center point of the "tin". The center point of the HL-turret is the center point of the hole turret. That is 13mm to far to the front. And that we have to correct. Attention: If you correct this failure, the gun will not be able to shoot 6mm bullets anymore. If you want it to still run, go to the next post when you reach the Word "JUMP" and come back at the word "BACK" And again, you have two possibilities to solve the problem. First and easiest one is to buy an adapter. The only one I know about is this one. www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11435924/tm.htm The one you can see there is an older version. You´ll get the improved one by buying, incl. assembling instructions. If you choose the hard way, there are some steps to follow first. 1. Open and remove the Tiger tracks www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502866/anchors_11502866/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502866 2. Open the Tiger www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502872/anchors_11502872/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502872 3. Remove and open the turret www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503962/anchors_11503962/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503962 Now lets figure out the correct center of the turret. Remember, the center point is the center of the "tin". The turret diameter is about 145mm. So the radius is about 72,5mm. The diameter of the inner ring is about 85mm. So the radius is about 42,5mm. That is a difference in radius about 30mm. So the edge of the inner ring should be 30mm away from the edges of the turret. Everywhere. It is ok to the sides but not to the back. There it is 13mm to far a way. So we have to move the inner ring 13mm to the back. And only to the back. Lets start. First cut off the two support plates. Remove them carefully. You have to use them again. Cut off the inner ring as shown. Do it properly. Then you position the ring as before and push it 13mm to the back. Mark the new position. Cut of the marked area. Again properly. Keep the piece for later. Copy the cut off area to a 1mm poly plate. Cut off the copied area. Because you need to glue it to the lower turret part, leave a 3mm edge to do so. Follow the next pictures. Cut of two areas from the front. The two support plates should fit there. You´ll see later. Glue the poly to the inside of the lower turret. Glue both cut off turret pieces back to the poly as shown. After the glue dried, glue the two support plates back to the old position. If you don´t cut off these two areas, the plates will come up to high. So the turret will not close properly. Lets move to the hull, now. Here we also have to move the "big hole" 13mm to the back of the hull. Because you need some edges to put glue on, you should use the next picture for details."hinten" means back and "vorne" means front. "Copy" the drawing to the hull. To figure out the data I had to try a few times. So don´t worry about those many lines. Just copy the ones from the drawing. Turn around the hull, remove the turning device and all the brackets. Now cut off the marked area. Just turning around the piece and glueing back together is not the right thing. Because the ring is not equal in thickness you have to turn it down. In the next picture you see, what I mean. The top part is thicker then the bottom part. Thats the front. In the back it is the other way round. To keep it like it has to be, turn it down. So the bottom will become the top. I hope, I made it clear enough. (my english tststststs). To glue the cut off area back to the hull, use small stripes of poly to create glue edges. They should be 15mm in size. Glue 10mm to the hull and leave 5mm for the area to glue. Not more, because the glue edges of the cut off area are just 5mm wide. Then glue it back together. Old position: Turn down and new position: To fill up the gaps and make them more stabil, I used 2-component-glue. The advantage is you don´t even fill up the gaps, but glueing them together twice. After drying, grind the gaps. In the next picture I grind much more for some other details of my Tiger. Don´t worry about that. Just grind the glued gaps. Fill up the back step of the lower turret part with body filler and grind it after drying. This step was necessary, because the turret otherwise would touch some accessories when turning. Now it is useless and even not original. Now it is time to take care of the gun. Dismount the gun "JUMP" Disassemble the gun. Follow the pictures. Mount the gun back to the barrel. "BACK" Reassemble the turret. The turret turning device needs a new position. Take double-faced adhesive tape to fix it. Of course you can choose different locations. Then reassemble the Tiger. To show you the difference before and after, I took two Tigers for example. Turret in 12 o´clock position shows no difference. Turret in 9 o´clock position you can see the difference. The lower one is the Tiger we worked on, upper one is an original HL. If you take a look at the Tigers back, you can see, why the original needs that turret step. Well, that´s it. Have fun by changing. HL-TIGER I, Basics, Failures and how to remove them.
Foreword: Since I own my Tiger I, I did many modifications to this model. Why? Because there are so many failures comming with this model, that there is plenty to do to change it into a real good model. I also figured out, that many people have the same problems with their Tigers without knowing the failures or even not knowing how to correct them. One day, I made a deal with another german forum member. He sent me his Tiger, I corrected most of the failures and created a series of articles about each failure and how to remove it with simple work. To find all the single articles, I created an index where I could list all the failures and link them with the single articles. After discussing these possibilities in this forum, I decided to do the same for you guys. This will be the mother of the articles, so please stick it somewhere. To follow the articles, just push the links under the appropriate headline. In the end, there will be a list of 32 steps to follow. I cannot do all the article at once, so they will appear step by step. Well, lets start. What are we talking about? We talk about an early HL-Tiger I as shown in the following pictures: Basics How to open and remove the Tiger tracks www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502866/anchors_11502866/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502866 How to open the Tiger www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502872/anchors_11502872/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502872 How to remove the wheels www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502886/anchors_11502886/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502886 How to increase spring tension www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502913/anchors_11502913/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502913 How to remove the idler wheel www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503945/anchors_11503945/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503945 How to remove the drive wheels www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503950/anchors_11503950/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503950 How to remove / change gears www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503957/anchors_11503957/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503957 How to remove and open the turret www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503962/anchors_11503962/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503962 Chassis failures Missing tow bar www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11504926/anchors_11504926/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11504926 Replace frontal "sparetracks" www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11504934/anchors_11504934/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11504934 Missing transmission reinforcement plates www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11504937/anchors_11504937/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11504937 2. But after all this modifications, you have a model that really looks like a Tiger. There are so many other technical things to do on the Tiger, even by adding accessories, it would be too much to show everything. That´s why I limited this one to the above points. Greetings Birger

HL-Tiger 1: "Rommel" storage box
Hi guys, today you are going to modify the storage box at the back of the turret. What´s wrong with it? If you take a look from the above you´ll see, that the box edges are faced almost 90° to the turret. If you take a look to the original you´ll see, the angle is different. Now you can eather replace the hole box or you can add two corners. By replacing the hole box you also have to create new brackets for the elevation device. The easiest way is to add two corners. I show you my way. First I took a leftover Tiger turret and market the edges I needed. Then I cut off the corners. Adjusted them to the box and glued them. Closed the bottom gap. At last there is a little grinding work to do. That´s it. If you don´t have a leftover, you also can use poly and create a corner by using plates. Greetings Birger For a lot more help with your Heng Long Tiger I tank, follow the below link ... HL-Tiger 1: Barrel position
Hi guys, one of the failures of the HL-Tiger is the position of the barrel. What is wrong with the position? I´ll show you. If you take a look from above you will see, that the barrel is positioned centered to the mantlet. If you take a look at the original, the position is a bit right of the mantlet center. Including the notch at the mantlets edge. The only way to correct this failure is to replace the barrel and the mantlet. To do so, try to get spares from a Tamiya Tiger or an Torro Tiger. You know, the one comming together with the Torro T-34. To replace it is easy. Follow next thread until the barrel is disassembled. www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11511969/anchors_11511969/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11511969 Then replace the barrel (it should have the right length with the Tamiya and the Torro) and the inner plate. Glue the back to it and follow the next steps at that thread to reassemble. Greetings Birger For a lot more help with your Heng Long Tiger I tank, follow the below link ... HL-Tiger 1: Commanders cupola
Hi guys, today you are going to correct the position of the commanders cupola. What´s wrong with it? As you can see on the next picture, the cupola opens, according to a watch, to 2 o´clock direction, in driving direction. The cupola on the HL opens to 4 o´clock position. So we have to change the position. First you have to remove the cupola. Be carefull, it is glued. Now you have two possibilities. Buy a new metal one or adjust the old one. If you buy a new one, mount it in the right position. Maybe you need a little adjusment with it. take care, that the observation slit shows in driving position. That´s it. If you use the old plastic one, you devinitely need to do some adjustment. Just turning the cupola into the right position is not enough. Why? Because the observation slits are now in the wrong position. Cut of the upper part of the cupola, carefully. As better you do as less adjusting you need. Grind both cutting edges. Glue the lower part to the turret in the old position, slit showing in driving position. Glue the upper part back to the lower part with hatch opening to 2 o´clock position. Finished? Now. One more thing. Add the hatch stop. To make one is really simple. Just watch. Now you are finished. HL-Tiger 1: Smoke discharger
Hi guys, today your are going to modify the smoke dischargers. On the first picture you see the ones from the HL. Mmh, there is something missing. If you take a look at the original ones, you can see a wiring. Lets try to simulate it with simple things. Dismount the dischargers from the turret. Normally the are just sticked to the turret. If you got a new Tiger, they should be inside the accessory box. Then take a small stranded wire. As thinner as better. Skin half of the wires. Divide the strings in three bundles and twist them. Then glue the wire to the dischargers as shown. Now drill a hole to each discharger. The size of the hole depends on the size of the strings. Cut the strings and put them into the holes as shown. The other end is to be cut, too. Drill a hole to the turret roof and glue the other end of the wire as shown. If you did it right, it shoul look like this. Greetings Birger For a lot more help with your Heng Long Tiger I tank, follow the below link ... HL-Tiger 1: Lifting points
Hi guys, today you are going to modify the lifting points. They are used to hook up the turret for removal with a crane. There are three points. One at both sides at the turret and one at the back of the turret. At the HL they are not done well and the one in the back is missing. There are several possibilities to solve this problem. Lets see, what you can do. This is how they should look like: And thats the way they come with the HL. First of all you can see the gap between the inside and the outside. Please fill it up. Don´t care about the hole in the middle. Just ignore it. You´ll see why. Then make sure, that you renew the two holes. A 1mm drill should do good work here. Attention here: The holes must be in Position 12 an 6. I did it wrong on the picture. There they are in position 9 and 3. See original picture. The only thing that is missing are the two plates at the pin. You can buy them. They look like this. Then glue them to the head of the pin. Or you make them on your own. Just take a small piece of 1mm poly and...... The third possibility is to use swivel parts. Therefor you need the center hole. Well, after you took care of the ones at the front, what is with the third one at the back? Because the elevation device is directly under this position, you have to improve a little bit. Take a 2,5mm drill, drill three holes in shape of a "T" and grind it to its final shape. Take the head of a nail or the third pin from the swiveled ones and glue it to the hole. Maybe you need a little adjusting work. The result is not very pretty, but better than nothing. HL-Tiger 1: Observation slits
Hi guys, today you are going to modify the observation slits positioned at both sides of the turret. There are two different versions. What is wrong with them. Well, the slit is missing. Now you have two possibilities to solve this problem. First one is to buy those slits from a supplier or you do them on your own. Lets do the "do it on your own" thing first. That is very easy. Take a small screwdriver. Heat the tip well, probably with a pocket lighter. Then melt the slit by using the screwdriver. Just make sure that your slit is not to big. After melting, grind it. Then you are done. It should look a little like this one. Now lets do the "I bought one" thing. The slits you get look like this. To mount them to the right position, you have to grind the original one down to the first "ring". Then glue the slits to there new position. Well, in this case, I prevere the bought version. They look much better, I think. Greetings Birger For a lot more help with your Heng Long Tiger I tank, follow the below link ... HL-TIGER I, Basics, Failures and how to remove them.

HL_Tiger 1: Gun mantlet and barrel length
Hi guys, today you are going to modify the gun mantlet and the length of the Tiger barrel. There are two different versions of the HL-Tiger available. The older ones have the mantlet turned 180° into the wrong position. That is how it looks like. The newer ones are mounted correctly. That looks like this. We take care about the wrong ones. To start, follow the next steps. 1. Remove the Tiger tracks www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502866/anchors_11502866/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502866 2. Open the Tiger www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502872/anchors_11502872/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502872 3. Remove and open the turret www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11503962/anchors_11503962/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11503962 Just take the gun out of the bracket. There are two screws fixing the gun to the mantlet. Unscrew them. Take of the mantlet. Remove the LEDs. That is a little tricky, because they are glued. But they have to be removed, somehow. At the inner side of the mantlet, you see two screws. Unscrew them. Now you can disassemble the mantlet. For the next step assemble them again without screwing. Glue the inner part to the mantlet. That is to make sure, they are in the original position. Take off the back part. Turn around the gun 180°. Cut of as shown. Glue the back part to the gun as shown. After the glue dried put the LEDs back in. Now, because the gun is already disassembeld, we take care of the barrel length. Before you start you should know, that the gun will not be able to shoot after stretching the barrel. If you want to keep this function, stop here and reassemble the turret, or get a longer alu-barrel and replace the old one. Just make shure, that you prepare it with holes on the same position as the old barrel. If you don´t care, go on. Here you can see the difference between the middle section of the original HL and the length of the adapter. First cut off the barrel as shown. Glue the adapter to the barrel as shown. Remove left over from the front part as shown. Adjust the front part to the adapter and glue them together as shown. Watch the correct position of the muzzle break. That´s it. Now you can reassemble the turret. Greetings Birger For a lot more help with your Heng Long Tiger I tank, follow the below link ... HL-TIGER I, Basics, Failures and how to remove them.

HL-Tiger 1: Tank periscopes
Hi guys, today you are going to add the missing tank periscopes to the drivers and radio operators hatch. Those are missing at the HL. You can get the tank periscopes from different suppliers. Normally they are made for the metal hatches. The fixture you need is missing inside the HL hatches. So you have two possibilities. You eather cut of the original hatches and replace them with the metal ones, what I prefer, or you create the missing fixture. Because we want it easy, we create one. That is really simple. So pictures should be enough. But before you start, follow the next steps. 1. Remove the Tiger tracks www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502866/anchors_11502866/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502866 2. Open the Tiger www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11502872/anchors_11502872/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11502872 Than we measure the upper part of the periscope and create a fixture according to that measurement. Now glue the fixture to the hatch as shown in the next picture. After glueing the periscope to the fixure it should look like this. That´s it. HL-Tiger 1: Pistol hatch
Hi guys, today you are going to take care of the right position of the pistol hatch. And again, there are two versions. In the next picture you see two HL turrets. Take a look at the lower one. There the pistol hatch is positioned correctly. If you have such version, you can stop here. If not, continue reading. The hatch at the upper one is turned 90°. That is incorrect. To make it easy, you can by a spare hatch from different suppliers. But changing the original one is also easy, so you can save the money. Lets change it. The hatch is glued to the turret. Remove carefully. Turning it 90° into the right position is a good idea, but not enough. The back side of it is angled according to the turret. You have to take care of it. How? I´ll show you. Remove the paper and glue the hatch back to the turret. RE: Which Tank Should My Friend Get??
Ok, it looks like he already has three models in mind he wants to choose of. In this case, he should take the M26 Pershing from HL. It should be the S+S version with metal gears. The bulldog is almost the same quality, but far out of scale and a more modern one. Greets Birger
