RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
n Bernard DUMAS
Bernard , Thanks for your kind words .!!! Estimated final weight will be around 8,5 - 9,00 kgr ( full of fuel and water) and depending on the glassing and painting I'm going to make... The water tank has a capacity of 1.5 ltr of water. Also ,I'm going to use 2 SAITO FA-82A engines with 12x8 MA 3-blades propellers. Finally , I hope the weight will stay there.... and not proceed further...!!! George
Hello George, be carreful with the weight, 8.5/9 kg seems to high for me, 7.5 kg should be the maximum I would recommand. Remmenber there is no cheating on the scale and the wing surface is not so large !! Bernard

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
ORIGINAL: teresos ...Also , I decided to add functional doors on the Main Gear wheels......
Hello Teresos, I've just had a look to the forum after several weeks off, and I must say I am very impressed by your work. Your landing gear looks very nice and close to the real one. As I wrote on my site, up to you to push further in detail, I think you applied this without any reserve ! What about the total mass of your model ? Again congratulation Bernard DUMAS

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
Hi Giacomo, your new location of the pneumatic cylinders is a really good idea. The acces for maintenance is enhanced. It's alway better to work in a team than alone. When you have worked to long time on the same project (based on the concept of the real plane) sometimes you have some difficulties to adapt it to a much smaller scale ! I'm happy to see the interest (devotion ?) of all the people involved in this project. Good luck for the next steps Bernard DUMAS

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
A question for Bernard: what are the cockpit sides made of? Balsa or lite-ply? Always 3mm thick I guess... It's made of 3 mm balsa

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
The choise of the 2 x 70 Surpass seems excellent, the 90 might be to heavy and not really necessary. I still have the moulds to make the cowlings and nacelles but unfortunately I cannot manufacture these items for you. I am currently working on two other time consumming projects : a big Corsair F4U-7 of 2.50 m wingspan and I am also restoring an old car. But if I you come in France I can borrow you the moulds (to heavy to be sent by mail,DHL , UPS or similar) if interrested contact me by mail. CU Bernard

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
Hi every one, When I created my website I couldn't image that so many people would be interested in building a CL215 scale model. I'm happy to see that this twin engine is so popular ! But before beginning to build it, you must keep in mind that is requires many hours of works (at least 9 months), and that it is not a good choice for a beginner. I studied a pneumatically operated landing gear and started to have some parts machined but the guy who did this job for me never supplied all of them, that why I designed a non-retractable version easier to manufacture with usual tools. I created this site in march 2001, and to answer a frequently ashed question, I do not intend to translate it in English as I am now very busy with other projects and have no time to do it. Wishing you a lot of success Bernard
