RE: constant depth, tapered wing?
I built a .60 size plane of my own design in the mid 1980's with a symmetrical tapered foam wing. The wing transitioned to a thicker percentage airfoil at the tip. I still have it and it flys great. Hundreds of flights on it with no damage except a broken prop. See attached pic. I did add invasion stripes so it was easier to see in the air.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Muttdog, I would not shift the engine away from the centerline of the firewall. Doing that may cause the plane to turn to the left or right. That would require rudder trim to correct and the amount of trim might vary depending on the throttle setting. Years ago I shifted the engine over on a .40 size plane because of the muffler or needle valve and it looked like it was crabbing slightly to one side all the time. I am building a Super Sportster with a DLE 30 but I am using a J'Tec muffler. I have not mounted the cowl yet but I don't think there will be a problem with the muffler being too close to the cowl on my plane. I remember the pic of the scorched paint on the cowl. I think someone glued a piece of thin aluminum on the inside of the cowl to prevent scorching the cowl. That is what I will try if the muffler is too close to the cowl on my plane.

stangevil29, If you are using a standard 50ma wall charger to charge a 2000ma battery the battery will not be fully charged after a overnight charge. You really need a charger that would put out 200ma to charge the battery overnight.

RE: Larger Revolver
I just glued a stab in another ARF a couple of weeks ago. I followed the instructions on marking the stab and removing the covering. Then I cut out a piece of the tail post with a #11 X-acto blade so that I could slide the stab in from the back. I coated the fuse where the stab goes with 30 min epoxy and slid the stab in. Made sure the alignment was correct and pinned it and let it dry. Then I glued the piece of the tail post back in with epoxy. If you are careful you won't even have to patch the covering on the tail post. Most of the kits I have built in the past 25+ years were designed for the stab to slide in from the rear. Never had one come out.

RE: Does anyone know David swantz
Some rules I have followed since being ripped off a few years ago. I don't buy from people with no feedback. I don't buy from people who have joined RCU in the last couple of months. They have to have been a member for at least several months. If your instructed to pay to a Paypal account with a different name than the seller's that should be a big red flag. I was told to make my check out to a different person than the seller. The guy said it was his girlfriend. I should have canceled the deal right then. Don't just look to see if they have good feedback. Check the dates the items were sold and when the feedback was posted. The people that ripped me off had a few good feedbacks. After being ripped off I noticed the items in their feedback didn't have time to go through shipping before the feedback was posted. They setup multiple usernames and pretended to sell and buy so they could post good feedback for themselves. After I threatened to have them arrested they did send me a small 3D plane instead of the .60 size Formula 3D I paid for. The plane had lots of problems, no hardware, no instructions, hinges that were frozen with CA, missing or broken servos, etc. It was just thrown in a box and shipped by mail with no packing at all. I never did find out what manufacturer made the kit. I talked to the police where they lived about it and they knew them from previous complaints and had already talked to them about selling items they didn't have. The police didn't do anything and when I called the police again I had to leave a message and no one ever returned my call. I got lots of info on them, just couldn't find any law enforcement that would do anything over such a small amount. I emailed every AMA chartered club around where they lived and found out they were riping people off on another forum site too. I was able to cause some trouble for them and I think it cost them more than what they ripped me off for. Still would have liked to have gotten my hands on them.

RE: Does anyone know David swantz
Hey guys, escrow services are availiable on RCU. When a person puts an ad on RCU, under payment details they can choose to accept escrow or not and specify who, buyer or seller, will pay the escrow charges. Of course if a scammer is placing the ad they are not going to accept escrow. See this page for details. http://www.rcuniverse.com/help/rcm.htm#Escrow_Services.htm?itemID=666212&post=1&dummy=1526.1251978976752&opener=/market/item.cfm%3FitemID%3D666212 There is a escrow fee calculator here. https://www.escrow.com/support/calculator.asp

RE: NEW DLE30!
I received my DLE 30 last week. When I tried to install the DLE spark plug that came with the engine it would go about 1/4 turn and stop. The threads were so poorly cut on the plug it wouldn't screw into the head. I didn't put a wrench on it because I was afraid it would ruin the threads in the head. I bought a NGK CM-6 and it screwed right in all the way by hand. Of course no place in town had one. O'Reilly ordered one for me. It cost $3.59. Advanced wanted $4.99 and NAPA over $7.00 for the same plug. By the way some parts dealers can't look up the NGK plug by the CM-6 number. They have to use the NGK stock number 5812 and they couldn't cross it over. I had to get the 5812 number and give it to them at NAPA so they could look it up.

RE: Larger Revolver
Jyjkoz, The OS 65AX should be enough power for the Revolver. I have a OS 75AX for mine. Let it reach flying speed before takeoff, don't yank it off the ground too soon & try to go straight up out of sight. With the 65AX it should fly like any sport plane from 20 years ago, before all planes became way overpowered due to 3D. Just my opinion (which is usually not worth anything).

RE: Larger Revolver
I think the size of the control surface would have something to do with stripping servo gears. But my friend's servos stripped while the plane was on the ground due to the large control surfaces shaking from the engine vibration. This was on a 3D plane with large control surfaces and a oversized engine. He also stripped one during handling when he bumped the elevator on something. The karbonite gears seem to be brittle. I have some on glow planes with normal size control surfaces (not 3D) and I have not had a problem with them. But I would not use those servos on the Giant Super Sportster I plan to assemble with a 30cc gas engine this winter. They would probably be ok on the Revolver with a DLE 20.

RE: Larger Revolver
Karbonite gears generally are not recommended for planes with gas engines due to the vibration stripping the gears. They may be ok with the DLE 20 as it is a small gas engine and apparently doesn't vibrate more than a glow engine. A friend had problems with the karbonite gears and a 50cc gasser.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Thanks for the info & pics Capt. I forgot about needing clearance for the muffler. I should be able to get some metric bolts at Fastenal after I determine what length I need. I will check the CG to determine how far out to mount the engine. Or I might have to mount the engine according to the bolts I can get. I think the DLE 30 will be perfect for my flying style. I have had the GSS kit for over two years but I haven't been able to start work on it mostly due to health problems. I plan to put it together this winter and have it ready to fly in the spring. This thread has lots of great info and it is keeping me fired up to get started on the GSS.

Capt Cash, could you post some pics of the DLE 30 mounted in the GSS? I'm asking because the GSS manual shows 7-1/4" from the firewall to the prop. The DLE 30 manual shows 6.37". Also where do you get bolts to mount the standoffs to the firewall?

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser!
Most of the discussion about planes for this is engine is about 3D flying. How do you think the DLE 20 wouldwork in the Top Flite P-40 Warhawk ARF .60-.91? I know it's just speculation but I want to hear some opinions. P-40 Specs REQUIRES: Engine: .60 - .91 cu in (10 - 15cc) 2-stroke OR .90 - 1.20 cu in (15 - 20cc) 4-stroke Distance from firewall to prop: 5-7/8" Wingspan: 64.5" Wing Area: 722 sq in Weight: 9.75 - 10lb

RE: Gas Airplanes / storage and smell
Type fuel fragrance in in the auction site search. Manhattan Oil's Fuel Fragrances can be used in gasoline, methanol, and diesel fuels. One four ounce bottle treats 20-30 gallons of gasoline, 40-55 gallons of methanol, or 5-10 gallons of diesel.

RE: Fun Fly w/ 3D flying is prohibited
The club has the right to do whatever it wants at it's events. The club ad states that this is a Warbird Fly-in. If the club policy prevents 3D flying at their warbird fly-in so be it. That makes sense to me. If the club policy prevents 3D flying altogether at it's field it is the club's right to do so, at least until the government or the lawyers get involved. It amazes me that someone would make such a big deal out of a club having a warbird fly-in. I don't see that the OP had any reason to post anything about this in the first place. I guess he should file a descrimination lawsuit against the club because he can't fly 3D at this warbird fly-in. Now would someone please close this thread?

OS 75AX Break-in Procedure
I have a 75AX that I have not run yet. The instructions for breaking-in state to start the engine very rich so that it is running in 4-cycle operation and let it run that way for one minute. Then lean it to two-cycle operation for 10 seconds. Then reopen the needle valve back to four-cycle operation for 10 seconds and continue this through the first tank of fuel. Is this the correct break-in procedure for a ABL engine? I didn't think a non-ringed engine with a tapered cylinder should be run in 4-cycle operation.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
You might try setting the ailerons to go up for spoilers. That will kill some lift and it should stop the plane from floating down the runway. If you try it check out how it reacts a couple of mistakes high.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
The firewall is 4-5/8" wide inside the triangle stock. Outside to outside of fuse is 5-7/16". Looking from the pilot's seat the centerline marked on the firewall for the engine is offset 1/2" to the left so there is 2-1/2" from the marked centerline to the outside of the fuse on the left side, 2-15/16" from the marked centerline to the outside of the fuse on the right side. Hope this helps.
