Prop sizing for efficiency
Background....Converted nitro Cermark Javelin. Full throttle performance is very good for pattern flying. AUW 6 lbs. Motor is Leadershobby 9394001223655. 4s lipo 3800 ma/40C. Flight times 3 to 3.5 minutes. Lipo very warm after flight. Static amps are 82 at full throttle. (About 1100 watts). Running the recommended (motor mfr) 13/10 prop. If my tach. is correct 5,200 static rpm. My gut tells me too much prop. The full throttle amps should drop when flying...how much?. I do not want to exceed 60 amps flying. My esc does not log data. Fire away!.......

RE: Has the extreme Heat stopped your flying
I didn't fly all last summer...hottest on record. This summer not as bad, but I want to fly. White t-shirt, shade trees and lots of ice water. We gotta do what we gotta do. Hide from the sun when you are not flying.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
My US 40..hot OS on a pipe and retracts was shredded thru a tree a couple of years ago. I had over 400 flights and 15 years on her. Count me in, as I will build a 40 or 60 size next.

Dick, I take your words on the Green Models Laser suggest that it is not very acrobatic or has bad tendencies to snap, etc.? Many moons ago I built a IM Laser200, it flew "ok", snapped like a Cap...lol Big_G

RE: Just got my Javelin II
Well, my 1st. Javelin is ready to go, I am pleased with the design. What amazes me the most is it is the same size as my Carreer 60 (fiberlgass Curare clone), but 2 pounds lighter!. (Flying weight 5.75 lb.). The supplied engine is fine, but I think I will replace the house brand servos. They are noisy and have some slop internal. Flight report this weekend. big_G

RE: Fuel pumps
10 ounces of fuel right behind the engine WILL change the c.g. on a light aircraft....try slow rolls with a full tank and then an almost empty one...I see a difference.

RE: receiver problems?
Geez....FWIW, 600 ma. pack on non-digital servos is no problem ....generally, servos draw little current if not in action. I have been flying 4 flights without charging with 500ma. packs for more than 20 years with never a battery failure. That beign said, 1000ma. packs are so cheap today, it's a no-brainer...lol...don't fly if the loaded voltage falls below 4.8volts...big_G

RE: Just got my Javelin II
I got my Javelins this week, one with the enhanced package (engine and 5 servos installed). The quality is very good, although I am wondering about the wing joint. Appears to be about a 1 inch glass cloth reinforcement. I usually do at least 4 inches on built up wings...we shall see. If the engine performs well, and the servos are good, we may have a keeper...lol. I will put my OS46AX and digital servos in the base model.....wonder which one will fly better?......lol

Pattern Props
Using an O.S. 46AX in a 5 to 6 lb. pattern ship, such as Javilin 40 or Goldberg Matrix 40 3D, I'm thinking APC 11-5 or 12-4....agree or disagree? I want maximum vertical performance, not speed... Big_G "Too much is never enough"

I have a Corvette restoration business... cars that sold for $4,000 to $5,000 in the 60's are selling for $150,000 up . Originality costs! A 30-35 year old kit N.I.B. for $500+ sounds like pure capitalisim at work...supply and demand...nothing more than that....
