RE: choosing second plane
Don't over look the great planes u-can-do .46 size. Looks nice, very easy to fly, will do any aerobatics you're capable of doing, will not tip stall on you, floats like a butterfly and lands very easily. Your 4-strokes would work perfect on it. Just don't fly it full bore....the horizontal stabilizer will rip off unless you beef it up to begin with! http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDUL8&P=0 good luck on your decision

RE: RC Plane Hobby Is Not Expensive !
ORIGINAL: rgburrill Many many years ago I lived in Scottsdale Arizona and the local Rolls Royce dealership was run by Max of Switzerland. Max had a rule - if a buyer asked about the price he was told he couldn't afford it and escorted out. The only thing you need to ask yourself is can you pay for what you are buying right now. If you have to keep track of your yearly expenditures like this you really should find another hobby.
That sounds about like my ex father in law...walked in a dealership with his grimy (tire factory) clothes on right after work and asked the price of a car on their showroom floor. The salesman told him, "I think that's a little out of your price range." He walked out the door and across the street to another dealership and paid "cash" for one on their showroom floor!

Engine? .61 2 stroke = astro hog that sounds like a bumble bee, barely gets off grass, and a big oily mess before you head on home. .91 os 4 stroke = astro hog that sounds more realistic, plenty of power for take-off, better fuel economy and 1 paper towel to clean oil off. have fun

RE: Venting about flight simulators
ORIGINAL: harryangus Just venting! Many have told me here that flight simulators are never like the real thing. I know that. However, I have been practicing a Big Stik 60 with an OS 75 in Realflight 5.5 for a while and I loved the speed (95MPH) and the speed the plane makes all the loops and rolls. Now that I have the real thing with the same engine, I noticed that the plane is not even making half the speed and the rolls are very slow. It’s not even giving me the speed I had with my old Stick 40 running on a OS46. This is ridiculous. That’s for sure the last time I make a decision based on a flight simulator. Just venting!!! I never tried the gas pump. It only takes about 100 cranks to fill up a 12oz glow fuel tank. They're easier to crank after about 50 fill ups. Like an engine, ya gotta break it in! RE: Phoenix Scanner - or is something else better?
As far as that Phoenix Extra 300s you won't find a nicer aerobatic plane for the money! It's fast and flys like it's on a rail. First time I flew mine it dead sticked and floated right in. After 182 flights I still have the same 11-7 wood prop on it and I'm not an expert at flying or landing. I let a guy in our club fly mine and his only comment was "I gotta get me one of these! Especially for the money!" I'd rather have 1 extra 300s than 10 of those scanners. big dan

RE: Tiger 60 build issue
This thread started 2 1/2 years ago. You'd think the OP finally got it figured out by now. [:)] I turned mine into a tail dragger from the git-go and installed my landing gear underneath the fusalage. I have about 400 flights on mine and it's still holding together well. The different engines I've had on it have been an OS 61 FX, an OS 75 AX, an OS 91 FX, a OS FS 91 Surpass 4-stroke, and last of all a Super Tiger G 90. I liked the 91 FX best of all for my style of flying. Sure hope the OP was able to fix the problem he was having after 2 1/2 years. [:)] big dan

RE: Best and Worst Nitro Engine Powered RC Airplanes for Beginners in the Market
A beginner in our club had one of those so-called best trainers, the Sig Kadet LT 40 and that plane was all over the place. I can't tell you how many times he had to repair it. Then I let him fly my goldberg tiger 60 and he said my tiger 60 was easier to fly than his Sig LT 40. The goldberg tiger 60 has to be the most graceful plane they ever made! Open it up and it can also be a real crowd pleaser. I give it a ***** rating especially for a beginner with an instructor. big dan

RE: Best and Worst Nitro Engine Powered RC Airplanes for Beginners in the Market
The worst trainers are those smaller ones and the ones that have a flat bottom wing. The wind wants to throw them all over the place and they're harder to see. Those planes normally fly the beginner around rather than the beginner flying the plane around. Now, with an instructor, the best plane for a beginner would be a "low wing" Goldberg Tiger 60. It's larger and easier to see, it goes where you want it to go, it will not tip stall on you, and it will land on a dime! Plus the wind won't throw it all over the place and it looks a lot nicer than some of those small trainers. Once you learn the basics of flying you'll realize a low wing "larger" plane is just as easy to fly as a high wing trainer. big dan
