RE: changing fuel
it's not odd to have to retune when changing fuels. lube % can change and the tune of course, and not all fuels are same exact consistancy from manufacturer to manufacturer.

RE: Mix matching parts?
things that don't swap between the two would be : tranny clutch clutch bell engine (obviously) spur gear (will swap out but is much smaller and you would have to have at least an 18 tooth bell or bigger or flywheel will hit tranny housing) exhaust and header everything else is the same even the chassis one thing the 8.0 has as far as mounting the engine goes is there is a steel plate under the chassis for strength.

RE: ofna 1/8 nitro buggy
ORIGINAL: rccheech The top line buggys are the ones usually in a kit form or roller, no engine, or any electronics, aircraft 6065 or 7075 aluminium chassis and shock towers ect.... Actually OFNA is one of them that makes the list, the Hyper 9. The top buggys are intended for competitive racing, nothing is really skimped on. Just higher quality parts and alot less upgrading required(most are put in the kit), straight from the box to the track. They are usually labled competition kits on the box. That in any way shape or form does not mean you cannot be competitive with an entry level buggy, on sanctioned races they require a .21 size engine( thats a whole different world), but on a local or club level, which is way more common it does not matter in most cases, just go out and have fun!!!
+1 in all honesty and my personal opinion is you could spend 3000 on a retarded amount of racing equipment and a mugen blah blah blah or other blabidy blah blah and it really don't make a difference. the driving skills have to be there. ofna stuff IMO is tuff as nails and for starting out you may need that. i've met very few peeps that can rock the circuit right off the bat. also from what i've noticed the more a vehicle costs (as far as racing goes), the more things break on it. alot of people will tell you that an ofna ultra mbx won't keep up with the pack but i beleive other wise. my buggy flat rocks and runs between 55-60mph but i like em to slide a bit, i'm not a sticker when it comes to corners so i'm usually flyin.

good to hear! my buggy is an ofna ultra mbx from 2002 and i rebuilt it. she is rock solid. replacement servo for steering is most needed, but i replaced both and she'll lock up the brakes and slide around the corners. she is a blast

RE: help needded!!!!!!!!!!!!!
back in the day pretty much the only types of engines you could get your hands were the type with the short crank shaft and then they started coming out with a crank shaft with a pilot shaft on it for the clutch bell and then you had to cut the crank . however times have changed and so has technology. if you have an engine with a long sg crank (equipt with a pilot shaft) it may be as simple as getting the proper flywheel nut instead of cutting. in my opinion and what seems to me as common sense, it would be stronger and truer rather than a pilot shaft that threads onto the crank.

RE: Engine tuning question
when it comes to tuning, a lot of it depends on where you live and the day to day weather conditions. stuff like humidity, barometric pressure and such. say you had a cloudy, cool, day with low humidity which would leave the air with more oxygen than normal so you would run slightly richer on the flip side if you had a sunny, clear, and high humidity which would leave the air with less oxygen than normal so you would run slightly leaner. it really depends on the weather if you live in a place where the weather changes like a womans mind then tuning may be a regular thing. if you live where the weather is a consistant thing and very predictable then you may not have to tune from day to day for months. i live in cali and here lately it's been a crap shoot due to nutty weather this year. however, once you learn more about tuning it is really easy especially if you know what to listen for.

RE: OFNA BUGGY WITH AXIAL .28 spec 1 engine
it took me a little time to figure this one out for myself. when tuning and you notice a stumble in the middle of the rpm band from take off to top speed it means the spray bar or MSN is not in the correct location and is getting too much fuel too early in the rpm band. if you don't notice the stumble i wouldn't move it. if you have to move it, turn in the MSN in regular tuning 1/16th turns like normal and turn out the LSN the same amount of turns. this way your are not disturbing the LSN adjustments, you are basicly moving the MSN and LSN as a complete unit causing the MSN to open at the correct time in the rpm band so the engine doesn't burn rich at mid throttle. i hope this makes sense. i just recently had to adjust my MSN on a newer engine for tuning and is the first time i've ever had to mess with an MSN, but it worked for me.

RE: OFNA BUGGY WITH AXIAL .28 spec 1 engine
i've never had one fall out but it is possible as loose as they fit in there. one of the guys on another made a suggestion that once you get the msn tuned where you want it, you can then seal over it with red high temp RTV and then it will stay put.

RE: OFNA BUGGY WITH AXIAL .28 spec 1 engine
the msn (spray bar) part # is AX029 the o-ring part # is AX025 unless you took the msn out and pounded on it with a hammer, i can't imagine that the needle seat itself would be bad. however, on mine you can plainly see that there is a minor amount of play around the MSN and o-ring. i used associated's green slime to seal everything before break in and have never had any issues with tuning at all. there is always a slight possibility that the o-ring has dryrotted while the engine was on the shelf waiting to be sold, so it wouldn't hurt to check it and seal it.

polishing is a cool look and i have polished many rc parts, but once you polish one of two things are gonna happen. 1.you'll be polishing your life away. 2.you'll regret it and wind up sanding the finish so you won't see all the peppering from the dirt and junk hitting that polish bcause you'll get tired of polishing all the time. unless you don't plan on runnin it, i wouldn't polish it.

RE: savage vs aftershock
i've been into RC stuff since i was 7. of course they were the one button wonders that only turned left when going backwards. then around 9 i got a couple that turned left or right in forward or reverse. then around 10 i got a cox tether car (first nitro or whatever fuel they used back then) ran on cox custom blend fuel. then about 7 or 8 electric toys'r'us specials (nikko, tyco, etc.) then laid off RC's at about 16 and got into hotrods then about 27 i got my first nitro hpi rs4 and the countless between then and now at 39, and i have a few friends that have been into nitro rc for the last ten years and electrics as well. yet still a few of them still don't have a clue how to maintain or tune or solder or anything when it comes to these things. all their vehicles are constantly broke down or not working properly. so i don't ever base my views on what others vehicles are in what shape, cuz it seems that i'm the only one who takes care of their ISH!

RE: Exhaust back preassure cooler work?
if it works or not i don't know. i supposed to cool the exhaust gases coming in from the pipe that are used to give fuel pressure. in turn keeping your fuel cooler and giving the engine a bigger boom, or keeping heat soak of the fuel tank at bay. that's my understanding.

as far as clutch bells go, i've been mixing and matching for quite a while. as long as the teeth are the same pitch it should work (excluding traxxas) you may have to shim sometimes or need a different bearing size but to me a clutch bell is a clutch bell. hit up the local hobby shop and see what they got.
