RE: Am I over geared
no i think it is from something getting into the motor from the carb, what i would do is put an outwear on the filter and then go for round 2 if that doesnt work, then try something new....

RE: Need guidelines for porting 5b SS
i have ported a weed wacker motor... if that helps you any. all you need to do is take a few thousanths off of the intake, and a little more off the exhaust. then maybe rejet the carb. thats what i did.

well todd, you can use it, in fact i am building a 1/4 scale late model that will be sporting a 65cc enigne. what would you like it to be the most? its your build, and well in my opinion i would go with a drifter but thats just me.

RE: 1/3 scale trophy truck build
on the shocks, i would use the lift support idea like qbs said. and that rear he posted is a good rear. i am fixing to purchase 2 of them for my 1/4 scale crawler project. if you really want a multi speed motor, you could just purchase 2 more servos to use for the shift lever, and the clutch. vantec.com has the heavy duty servos for that. heck the have it for steering too! the steering i would use some radius rods and some rod ends and make a custom servo horn to attach them to.

RE: DIY Welding
well it depends on the thickness of what you are gunna weld. if its like the thin aluminum like on a baja you could use a mig welder but the welds wouldnt look very good. i would recommend a tig welder, most likely a finger tip control type. its easier to use of the 2 types of tig welders. the other kind is what i have. i have a pedal control tig welder. a big one at that. the good thing about a tig welder is that the welds look good enough to show without grinding them down. but thats after you get good enough to do that. i still cant get a perfect roll of dime with a tig... so it takes practice. a tig welder is easier to switch between steel and aluminum, b/c all you need is welding rods and gas to switch with a tig welder. or at least mine. a mig is more complex to switch out. what i can tell you to do for a diy welding is to practice, get a feel for it. practice on a variety of metals. with a tig you just feed a little welding rod into the pool of metal and draw little tight circles in it kinda fast but you just need practice.

RE: ALCOHOL
so you need no oil or anything?0i know you cant mix methanol with oil, because they will just seperate. whats the lube of the motor then? oh and you will need a bigger fuel cell or tank if you want to run methan, b/c it burns faster i.e. need more the burn to run as long as regular fuel.
