RE: Epoxy for making propellers
whilst I do not live in Europe I will tell you what I use here in New Zealand. I use a prepreg epoxy known here as ADH/ADR for my propellers. It has to be heat cured around the 60C then 'post' cured ramping from 60C-100C over a 4 hour period. Ramping is increasing the temperature by 10C/hour. Others I have spoken to use a ARALDITE LC3600-that should be available in your part of the World, trevor H, Christchurch, NZ

Draw a cross section at the LE/TE junction at the fuselage and you'll be able to accurately determine the required cutout in the fuselage sides. Yes, when it looks wrong it is in fact correct because of the increase in width of the fuselage at the LE.Its not difficult to draw. Every kit that I have checked has been incorrect, not by much but enough to warrant resolving.TH, NZ[:D]

have to agree wth the previous reply.....reseat the bearings, the problem is most certainly in the bottomend. and also check the clearance type of bearing- C1,C2, C3, etc. Darol's bearing tool is very good but you have to know how to use it. trevor Henderson,[;)]nz

RE: How to get max rpm out of a tt 40
there are no secrets -very simple - give the big end some 'big' clearance -like about 2 thou. Easily done with a rolled up piece of wet and dry 660 grit paper and you dont want it polished...coarser the better. The bigger the clearance the more lubrication is possible-never broke a rod yet. Actually tried to destroy a TT to see which bits broke first- even running one at 20,000+, the engine is still running strong after two years use. The newer engines have got the better bearings so don't replace them. Check end float on the shaft- you should have some. I've found some to have zero...If you have changed the bearings to C3 clearance then this won't be an issue. The engine is undecompressed - good for unwinding in the air. I run mine with head clearance as supplied but have a variety of HOT plugs that I change to suit the weather- enya #3, and merlins, and even McCoy....there is a significant difference. The plug type being determined by wet or dry air. Experiment with a rev counter. Carb mods are very simple but very importantly remove the barrel spring, and replace with a piece of fuel tubing about 3mm long. the spring has been known to be digested by the engine.- wind out the bottom jet as far as you can and cyano in place. I threadloock all the carb body components together, have even used epoxy. (epoxy is possibly a better product to use)The needle body is known to harmonic at the 15,000 - 16,000 rpm and destroys the orings on the needle very quickly. Slide a large diameter fuel tube over the needle/ needle body to ensure airtightness, this tends to stabilise the needle and raise the harmonic level quite suibstantially........ There are two blade shapes for a 9x6 APC- one is the normal curved shape but there is a straight blade also available- that is in my opinion the better prop. This shuld help, Found the engine performs best with the baffle retained inside the mufflere, but suggest you get the muffler welded together. regards trevor h, nz

RE: Q40 servos
thanks-yes, it had gone through my mind that a better solution, irrespecttive of this problem may well have been to use the additional channel as you suggest. The Life as you correctly say is around the 7.2 volts at full charge- suspect though that the inbuilt tolerance of the chip would have taken that voltage.....looks like we are wrong. My F3d model had only one servo serving the two ailerons and the circumstance was therefore quite different. thankyou for your help, TH[:D]nz

RE: Q40 servos
interesting- I was out flying yesterday with my mate - he was practicing for the forthcoming F3d w/c in Australia......before going flying he had the ailerons fail- everything else worked except them. it so transpired to be a faulty Y lead- he runs two wing servos. It had us thinking- what was different to previous sessions? We pulled the Y lead apart and for some unknown reason there was a 'chip' in the lead....never seen one there before. I had given him out of my F3d model a LiFe battery which he had installed just prior to departing to the field. Yes, had the 'chip' burnt out on the 6.6 volts?.....we haven't yet assessed that , but one wonders whether the chip has a maximum of 6 volts.....perhaps even only 4.8? The lead he tells me came with a HITEC 2.4 GHz radio. He had been in the past using Lipos and a 6 volt regulator without any apparent problems Can anyone solve this problem for us? TH[:D]nz

RE: Strange Glitch with radio, receiver or servo?
I read with interest the above comments as a mate of mine had exactly the same problem. and the same radio........intermittent performance. He checked the replacement module, checked the pin length- get a dial caliper for this and you'll find the problem......everything is a bit too short, and wont give total contact! Whats the fix- he simply unsoldered the pins in the transmitter that 'mate' the plug into the module and moved them out about 1-2mm and then resoldered. There is a firm here in New Zealand called Jaycar that sell longer pins......also in Australia I believe. Also check the holes in the plug as sometimes they have an obstruction in them at the wire end- drill out with a suitable sized drill- on memory .8mm. Some of the cheap Chinese 2.4 Ghz (Flydream) have the same problem- but you can pull apart the module and reposition the plug, gaining about the extra mm or so- but the plug holes also need drilling. hope this helps- it certainly solved my mates problem,. trevor henderson, new zealand[:)]
