RE: Mt2 G3.0 Vs. Firestorm
I actually own both, and as of this Saturday I will buying my second Firestorm. 1 I will be for racing and will be putting the ROAR legal O.S. 12TG-P. 2 I will keep around for bashing. I prefer the Firestorm over the MT2 just because it is more durable and the fact that I feel more comfortable allowing others to drive the Firestorm just because it is far more durable.
ORIGINAL: spadesjr what is it and how do you use it if someone could clear it up that would be great thanks[:D]
I used it ONCE. I did not like it and threw it out. I applied 7 coats because it always appeared to be clear. The paint still went through it a little. I just went to an automotive paint supplier and bought automotive grade masking tape. I then cut out my designs on a piece of glass cutting board found at Target.
ORIGINAL: murawskiallen does anybody know how to seal off the cooling head where it tightens to the crankcase?? i took off the cooling head of my cv-r and after i put it back on i could hear air escaping whenever i pulled the starter cord
The best way to do this is to start your engine and let it get warm. The metal will expand. Drive it for awhile then tighten in down when it is warm/hot.

RE: How do I defeat thread lock? Motor removal question for MT2
Yeah, a drill, I drilled mine out. I just drilled them down far enough that the head of the screw popped out, I then used a pair of vice grips and unscrewed the screws from the engine, I then bought new screws and and sold the engine with the new screws on ebay for $50.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
It is a 2 speed as well isn't it? Then it is not ROAR Legal.
ORIGINAL: Grantothismo Nitr0-is-Deadly: Your not testing two comparably equipped vehicles. Your MT2 is stock and the Revo is stock - but the Revo is running a 3.3 (.20) engine. That is quite a bit more than .15. The MT2 with the SS package would be more of a comperable test. For the $499 that you pay for the Revo, you could get the MT2 regular and another 99 bucks for the 18 CV-R from OS and then they would be closer - or get the SS for $327 then get a Futaba 2pl for $99. Then you would have a fairly close race and also have a radio that is fully adjustable. Try testing those against each other. You will find that the MT2 is kinda fast in this configuration. The last that I would say on this, is name one race that a Revo has won at the national level? MT2? Neither have - enough said. Even the Tamiya TNX beet the Revo in the small block Monster Truck Nationals last year with David Jun driving. Right after that race Traxxas pulled from this market and put the 3.3 in the Revo and put in the third diff. They are good bashing vehicles that can raise the brow or two of people if they are setup properly. Not really sure why Traxxas owners feel the need to tell everyone how "FAST" their vehicles are. If you like it - great - glad you bought one, but I had a Traxxas before and will never own another. Too many reasons to post here, all I can say is that they pay too much advertising to RC Mags that feel compelled to tell us how great their vehicles are. You want to race and win - get a Jammin or Losi Eight. (Remember with the third diff the Revo is a Ulimited Monster Truck now) Me personally - I have owned an MT2 for three years and love it. Maybe you should sell yours.
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
if you want bodies for your Firestorm...... next time you go to your LHS look for a MT2 body. I recently bought a body for my MT2 (Silverado) and in the instruction sheet it had diagrams on how to make it fit the Firestorm. Last time I was in my LHS I looked and they had 2 of the exact same bodies but one had options for the Firestorm and the other did not, so make sure that you flip that white piece of paper over and look and see if it says anything about the mounting posts for the Firestorm.

RE: firestorm....what kind of truck can it be?
ORIGINAL: dannthenitroman you should be tuning it every day.
that is your opinion...... if it runs fine why attempt to mess with it. Don't fix something that is not broken. I check it every tank to check the temps with a temp gun and the temps are within reason.
With all internal combustion engines you should set and tighten your manifold, then drive it around for about 5 minutes and then re-tighten everything down. When the engine heats up it will expand, all metals expand a little when heated.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
You might want to get the manual online and print it out or at least print out the pages you need. Page 18 is wheel maintenance and page 19 is wheel and clutch maintenance. Or you can just give HPI a call and tell them your issue and I am sure they will send out another manual to you.
ORIGINAL: buggymangp hey guys i`m a new owner of a firestorm. is anybody else missing pages 18 and 19 in the owner manual. those pages are blank in mine. i only got to thumb thur the manual last night. the first thing i`m doing this weekend is upgrading the servos and radio to a dx 3.0. RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
ORIGINAL: rclynx Things work and things don't work. [:(] Why would a LHS say a fail safe doesn't work? [sm=48_48.gif]Oh yea its all about the parts they sell from run away cars that find walls and tree's and stuff. You better take a pole m8 because there are far more people out there that swear by the operation of a fail safe and if you have a good Radio set up it is built in. You got a bad unit or hooked it up wrong. I have hundreds of them out there and a few have had problems but most people thank me for installing them on there cars and trucks. [:-]
Well considering since the fail safe was for my MT2 which is all aluminum and titanium, I don't think my hobby shop is worried about making any money off of that truck because I have yet to spend any money at my LHS for that truck. They know where I get my parts for it. Also on another note, the manager at the hobby shop is one of my good friends. I am not sure how sheisty your hobby shop is but my local hobby shop is straight forward and won't tell you to buy something or not buy something to make some extra money. They are the type that will be honest and straight forward with you so you will keep coming back. The bottom line is, a fail-safe is not needed. You just have to be smart and know the limitations of your radio and car and keep your car within those limitations. That is why I just recommend installing a battery indicator, that way you know the limitations of your battery. Plain and simple.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Make sure that the screws are snug, and what I mean by that, make sure there is no play with them. I noticed the holes for my screws were getting larger with time and was causing to much play in the knuckle. I replaced the knuckle and the problem disappeared.
ORIGINAL: dnizzle2 i checked the screws in the knuckles and they are as tight as they go but there still seems to be a little too much up and down play in the knuckle. I dont recall how much play there was when i got it.
ORIGINAL: murawskiallen check the tops and bottoms of your knuckles and make sure the screws there are screwed tight
ORIGINAL: dnizzle2 has anyone had a problem with their mt2 shaking? mine is almost uncontrollable it is shaking so bad. it just kinda started out of nowhere, i thought maybe i had water in my tires so i replaced the wheels and tires with brand new split 5's and dirthoggs with little improvement. it is really bad under full break or slowing down in general. nothing is loose that i can find...any ideas? RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
ORIGINAL: Oscardms Hey guys, Have any of you installed a failsafe in your truck yet. I bought an XTM failsave, http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/146077.asp , and I don't know where to put it. I know I have to install it between the receiver and the Throttle Servo, but I just don't know where to place it. Anybody have any pics of where they put theirs? Thanks.
Yeah, I had that failsafe, I had it on my car for a whole 90 minutes. It thought it detected a battery drop and refused to allow my engine to go anywhere, the battery was fine and when I got closer to my car, it made my car's throttle open up wide and my car took off from me and crashed into a tree. Luckily no damage, but I took it back and the hobby shop that I bought it from stated NO REFUNDS, so I asked the guy to look out the window, I grabbed some electrical tape and taped it to the tread of my real cars tire and spun out while flipping the guy off. Needless to say I will never buy another failsafe again. Also after talking to the guys at my regular hobby shop I was told to stay away from fail safes and instead get one of these............
