RE: HEARD CEN GSR 5.0 IS A PIECE OF CRAP?
ORIGINAL: derrick05 Okay, you work in a hobbyshop,so what is that supposed to mean? It doesnt take very much skill to run a register[X(] My point here is youre subject to buy a lemon and get crappy customer service from any manufacturer. For you to say this is limited to cen,in my opinion shows that you are not an experienced nitroman[:D]And the fact that you say you work in a shop doesnt make your opinion any more matter of fact than anyone elses[;)]Have a nice day/night.
Derrick you need to read and comprehend the post made by jendr and myself regarding support and local hobby store problems dealing with CEN. You once again like a 5 year old took a shot at another person to make you feel better, yet only made your viewpoint look more childish. We get it you are a CEN fan-boy, theres nothing wrong with that, however when people ask a question be prepared to hear someone elses other than your opinion on the truck or company. CEN is very poorly supported at local hobby shops in many areas, this is a fact no hobby shop in all of Michigan carries replacements, upgrades, or Vehicles sold/built/distributed by CEN. A few of them used to, however due to the product and the customers constant complaints removed CEN and replaced them with other brands that the customers had less complaints about. Support is a very important part of all businesses. If you can't get parts locally you are stuck waiting online for 3-7 days or having to shell out a chunk of change to pre-buy spares you might not need or the wrong ones.
ORIGINAL: derrick05 And your point is???You just cant stand the fact that some people actually have some good things to say about the GSR[:'(][:'(][:'(]Theyre rock solid and extremely raceable.Sure is nice to see this thread get some responses from people who actually KNOW SOMETHING about the GSR[:)][:)][:)]
The GSR was not in that race in 2007, nor the race in 2008. Those are facts. Raceable? How do you prove that fact? The Revo has 6 National Championships the LST2 has 1 Roar National Championship. The GSR and its line GST/Nemesis have 0. All the above are facts, not claims. When you can prove statement with true fact, there is no arguement.

I don't think you would be going wrong with either. Both pretty well known to be strong. Everything will break. Both have quality motors and good parts support. The Savage series has a bit larger aftermarket though.
ORIGINAL: derrick05 Exactly what I thought[8D]you can ramble on all day long, but the question was ,IS A GSR A PIECE OF CRAP?Nothing more.
I answered that. I never said it was crap, I said there are many better options out there. Parts and local support should be the main reason anyone buys something...waiting for parts to arrive is not nearly a fun way to end a day of bashing. If you can't buy CEN parts locally look to another vehicle, unless you like having to carry tons of spares (just in case) to have a full fun day of bashing.
Heres Darkfire talking about a GST,wich is a totally different truck
Totally different?...you mean the engine and body change makes it a whole new truck, oh wait I forgot the new color chassis must make it all new? It still shares nearly all of the same parts, it is a Genesis series afterall. It has the exact same wheelbase (the only reason the length and width are so different is the new smaller tires).

RE: HEARD CEN GSR 5.0 IS A PIECE OF CRAP?
ORIGINAL: derrick05 Hows that keeping it simple?Have you ever owned a GSR or driven one? Were not talking CEN from 10 years ago nor are we discussing offerings from the past. Were talking the here and now,the GSR and nothing else,so if you have something negative to say about the GSR,wheres the evidence to back your claim.CEN 1/8 vehicles are some of the most durable on the market and I DO ACTUALLY OWN ONE[>:]
The fun part is you didnt answer any of my thoughts. You just claimed things...POT MEET KETTLE sir.
There are far better choices in the MT world for product support, product availability at a local store
My Local 3 Hobby shops carry absolutely nothing for CEN in the way of parts or hop ups. They can order it though. They also will not carry the vehicles due to the problems of users coming back with problems...most commonly on the Genesis series. Proof is very few local shops support and carry CEN for their own reasons...PROOF. Talk to user ThermalRD (once on here...Dale remembers him) about the problems with CEN's terrible support. They once told him to "shut up about whining about a improperly sealing tank and be happy he even has a Genesis LE, there are kids suffering in third world countries".
The only question is why consider CEN? Their offerings just can not compare to the top RC manufacturers, well it would be a lie to say they ever did compare.
What does their GSR offer to a racer...nothing its illegal. What does it have to offer a basher...more but not nearly the durability or support or service that HPI and Traxxas have done for the MT market place. It's simple math...go look to parts support and aftermarket support. If those are low for a vehicle there is a glaring reason...its sales are too low to invest time to make aftermarket pieces. I doubt the entire line of CEN's vehicles have 1/3 the amount of hop ups as the TMAXX or Savage series of MT's.

RE: Trinity Vs. Odonnels
I've run tons of fuel brands. For performance in racing you'll find best results with O'Donnell over Trinity. Trinity's problem is they don't make the fuel and they do not use just 1 fuel producer, so from 1 batch to another it can vary. Trinity is cheaper than O'Donnell though. Personally I've switched to Sidewinder Pro Race. Same tuning and performance of O'Donnell, but cheaper. It also has a tint to the color allowing me to see the fuel level easier.

RE: Carburetor broken???
Your engine has 3 screws. High Speed Needle, Low Speed Needle and the Idle Screw. The Idle screw needs to be only turned in small increments to make large changes. Also this should be done with the engine above the idle to that the screw turns easily. Typically this screw should barely need to be adjusted.

RE: Menace 21 70mph + ... with a .21??
The Menace weighs only 6lbs, the MGT8.0 is over 12lbs. The Menace has a 3 speed, MGT8.0 only a 2. The MGT is built for bashing, not high speed so it's gearing it for 30-40mph runs and tons of wheels. The Menace is a pure built for speed truck...thats all it does is go fast. Also look into F1 racing, small engines can spin pistons faster = more RPM. More RPM = more chance to hit high speeds. A good Vspec .21 will spin over 50,000rpm, while the MGT might get 25,000.

RE: Here's a Crazy Idea....
HP means nothing, to get top speed you also need an engine or gearing option that produces RPM. Twin engines are so over-rated and more of a showcase never run thing.

RE: Best Stock, "Out of box" nitro truck. Savage, revo, MGT, lst2?
You best bet is what you need it for. Best Stock Basher will always be the Savage line...plus it is super easy getting HPI parts all over the country. Best stocker racer/basher would be the LST2 or the Revo. The final decision is what is run by you and what is supported. Losi is only distributed by Horizon Hobbies, some hobby shops do not use them regularly. Personally I'd buy a Savage, LST2, or Revo any of them. But to find out the best go to your local shop, what do they sell and carry? This helps a ton. I'd rather have spare parts quick and easy to get, not wait for the internet.

RE: DX3S Reverse Settings?
Travel needs to be the travel amount needed to get it into the gear you want. No more or less. Too much will put a constant strain on the servo, too little will cause the transmission to fall out of gear.
ORIGINAL: bzinfinity For my models that have reverse, will simply plugging in the reverse servo to the 3rd channel slot on the Rx allow me to change gears, or will I have to configure the radio after basic setup?
You'll need to plug the servo into Channel 3. Then you will need to set the direction of travel and the amount of Travel (very critical)...neither should be hard on a Spektrum.

RE: Is XTM Mammoth St Pro good enough for race ?
The Mammoth works, but its suspension has needed work for years to even be competitive. I used to be in tight with the XTM guys, hate to say it they are stuck in their ways and will not be competitive until they listen or look around. I would not recommend an XTM for racing. You are far better off with a more common truck at the truck like and 8T or Jammin. Spending more early may hurt your pocket book, but the maintenance and upkeep on an XTM will make you hate racing.

RE: How do you tighten the differentials?
You can tune a gear diff, with Diff grease. Kyosho makes diff grease in varying thicknesses. It will come out but be better than nothing or having the silicone diff oil just leak right out. You'll need to replace a 3.0 engine with a small block, .12 to .20. Anything bigger in most cases such as a .21 of bigger will have a much larger engine case.
