seems like I read somewhere that you can turn the tires inside out and put duct tape on the inside, then flip them back and glue them on to stop them from stretching so much and breaking the glue bead - or I could have imagined it!

Himoto has a 1/14 Bug with a little engine for $99 - I think that includes electronics, but I am not certain - I don't know that vehicle specifically, but I have had very good luck with Himoto products - and their service and support is outstanding - if you have questions, contact Eddie (owner) - email phone and address are on the "Contact Us" page of the site [link=http://server.sohouniverse.net/~himotora/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=1785&=SID]http://server.sohouniverse.net/~himotora/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=1785&=SID[/link]

RE: Thinking about a Kyosho DBX VE
Raguvian, Yes, your 2S is charged to 8.4V. It also discharges to about 6.4V (3.2V per cell) depending on how you run it and when you stop. So yes, you start out around 27 mph. But you also finish around 21. The nominal voltage of a 2S is 7.4 and represents an average voltage across a discharge cycle. And you are also right that 24ish mph is not bad. I think that is pretty typical for top speed for an unmodified electric RC running a 2S lipo. But I would not call it a rocket. To me, 24ish is pretty basic speed. 35 is above average. 45 or 50 or more is a rocket.

RE: Thinking about a Kyosho DBX VE
The DBX VE motor is 2800KV. With a 2S lip, you are at 7.4V. 2800KV x 7.4V = 20,720 motor rpm. At the end of the video on the Kysoho site, they spec the gear ratio as 10.9:1. 20,720 motor rpm divided by 10.9 = 1900 wheel rpm. The video also specs the wheel diameter at 4.33". 1900 rpm x 4.33" x 3.14 (circumference is diameter X pi) = 25,832 inches per minute. With some conversion factors, that is 24 miles per hour. Definitely not a rocket but OK. With a 3S, it would be 36 mph. With a 4S 48. Of course that assumes the ESC can handle it.

RE: charger question
I was charging (4) 5200 mah lipos at 5.2A (1C) each. And actually, that is not the top capacity of the charger. 5.2A at the starting voltage of 7.4V is only about 38W. Even at peak voltage of 8.4V right at the end of the charge cycle, it is still only about 43W. Each channel on the Quattro is rated for 50W with 200W overall capacity. I was only doing 5.2A because it was 1C. And at that rate, when the 4th one was started, the voltage would dip enough to shut down one of the 4 charging sections. If the 4th was started at 4A, it would stay on with the charger pulling about 19.6A total. I started with (1) 10 ohm resistor on the 5V rail per the typical setup drawing 0.5A and 2.5W. I added a network of 1 ohm resistors for an additional 5A and 25W, and the voltage stabilized and held at a higher current, but it would not quite support the full load of 4 lipos charging at the 5.2A rate. So I got the bigger power supply, and it has been working well.

RE: charger question
Allnighters, I use Deans connectors, so I had to make up some charging cables. You will probably have to do that no matter what you use as the Quattro only comes with one of each type of connector, and no Deans cables. The charger has 4mm female bullet connectors for the charging cables, so I had to get [link=http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=67]4mm male bullets[/link], [link=http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11981]Deans males[/link] and [link=http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062648]18ga 2 conductor wire[/link] and solder up 4 cables. Also, it only came with one [link=http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=10360]balancing board[/link], so I needed 3 more. Finally, I converted a PC power supply for power. I originally started with a 550W power supply rated 25A on the 12V bus, but it did not have the oomph to handle the full capacity of the Quattro. It would start to lose voltage to the point that the charger would shut down around 19 to 20 amps. So I replaced it with a [link=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200]630W power supply[/link] rated 50A on the 12V rail, and that did it. I did the conversion based on [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5680951/tm.htm]this thread[/link]. I really love that charger.

RE: charger question
If you ever plan to use lipo, (or even if you don't since you probably will anyway), I would stay away from the Onyx chargers. They are not balance chargers. To do lipos, you would need a separate balancer. That is a pain in the neck and generally restricts your charge rate (amps). I started with an Onyx 230, started using lipos, bought a balancer and recently gave up and bought a good balancing charger. I have read lots of good comments about the Accucel 6. I have a Turnigy Quattro which is essentially (4) Accucel 6 chargers in one. I love it.

I do not have the experience that several of these guys have, but it sounds to me also like you discharged too far. And the problem was made worse by some cell imbalance. RE: 1/8 Buggy Servos?
Futaba has a servo selector where you can enter the parameters you want, including minimum torque, and it will tell you what servo(s) will work. Try this link [link=http://www.futaba-rc.com/servos/servo-select.php]http://www.futaba-rc.com/servos/servo-select.php[/link]. By the way, I am not sure why you want a lot of torque on your throttle/brake servo. For throttle, you should not need much torque at all. For the brake, if it is a well-designed braking system and set up properly, you should not need to apply a bunch of torque to get good braking. I have seen some newer brake setups that use a "plastic" brake disc and no "composite" pad materials since they can not have asbestos in the pads. I know those do not brake so well. But I Have also in many cases seen people double up the discs and pads to get good braking with those setups. Finally, if you are asking about throttle/brake servos, then it seems unlikely your car is electric. You might try the nitro forums for more advice about throttle/brake setups.

I was able to recover a lipo that had gone too low. CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION There are definite risks to doing this, not the least of which is fire. So watch the battery closely while doing this if you try it. I was able to connect each cell individually and charge them at 100 mA (0.1 amp) on a NiMH setting until they were above the level my charger could handle. RE: good lipo under $50
is hobbyking the "best"? that depends on how you define "best" - if you mean the highest quality every single time, then no, they are not the best - if you mean the cheapest, then yes, they are the best - if you can buy their lipos for 1/3 the cost of other brands, and 1 out of 10 are trash, are you OK with that? I am because I can spend $100 and get 4 5000 mAh 2S lipos including shipping - at best, I might get 2 somewhere else for that money - so if 1 of the 4 from hobbyking goes straight in the trash, I am still 1 lipo ahead - if you are willing to wait a couple weeks for shipping and are willing to accept their failure rate in order to get the cheapest lipos possible, then go with hobbyking, and don't complain when you get a bad one - if it is going to pi$$ you off if you ever get a bad lipo, and you want 100% perfect quality without fail and are willing to pay for it, stay clear of hobbyking - and for what it is worth, I have never gotten a bad lipo from them - but I am aware of many other people that have

I have gladiators and love them. I run them on all four wheels, but I am running them on 4WD vehicles. For the 2WD T4.1, traction on the front does not matter. And xxx is right that you will get better steering with ribbed tires on the front. I would be sure to resist the temptation of running on road at all with them, though. RE: Nooby with battery questions
First, let me say that I agree totally with John about lipos and a good charger. I started off charging NiMH and bought a charger for that. It would do lipos, but was not a balancing charger. Then I made the switch to lipos. I bought a separate balancer to use with my charger. It worked, but it was limited to 3 amps. Once I had a bunch of high capacity lipos, 3 amps just did not cut it. I have finally bought a better charger, and wish I had done so in the first place. To explain a couple of John's answers... The capacity of a NiMH pack is rated in mAh (milliamp hours). The pack you linked is 5000 mAh. The time a pack will last and the time it takes to charge is a function of time and current. The higher current you use to charge, the faster it charges. The higher current you pull when running, the faster it discharges. Note also that 1000 mA (milliamps) is 1 A (amp). So a 5000 mAh pack would be 1 hour at 5000 mA (or 5 A which is the same). Or it would be 5 hours at 1000 mA (1 A). So, if you charge at 2.5A, it will charge in about 2 hours. Also note that it only takes the full expected time if you have run the pack perfectly "empty." So as John says, the times can vary depending on how much capacity is left in the pack when you start the charge.

RE: ***OFFICIAL VEGA8 XB 1/8 BRUSHLESS BUGGY THREAD***
divide the mAh of the pack by 1000 and multiply by the C rate - that gives you the max amps the pack can deliver - for example, a 5000 mAh 30C pack can deliver 150 amps - if our ESC is 80A, then a 5000 mAh 20C would be enough since it could deliver 100A - from what I have been reading, it is a good idea to have a little more available from the pack than the ESC max

RE: lipo charging problems
I have also seen when charging/balancing with a separate charger and balancer that the balancer will continue to drain the battery very slowly in an attempt to keep tweaking the balancing after the charger shuts off - if you leave your battery on the balancer/charger for a long time after the charge is complete, you will find the battery at slightly less than the full 4.2 per cell - some times that happens to me if I leave them on overnight - I usually start the charge cycle again, and it will peak the battery in a pretty short time - maybe 15 minutes - but it really does not add much capacity - as someone else commented, at 4.15, you are "full" for all practical purposes

RE: RC LiPo Care
You are probably not discharging it very much. The mAh on the charger does not tell you what is in the battery at the end. It tells you what the charger put in it. So if you discharge a little, it will only charge a little until it is full again.

RE: lipo charging problems
It probably had a partial charge on it when you received it new. The mAh that you get when you charge does not tell you what is "in" the battery when it finished. It tells you what the charger "put" in the battery. So if it was partially charged already, it would take less than the 5000 mAh to "fill" it.
