OS 120 AX and black exhaust oil
Hello. Ran my 120 AX after letting it set idle for several months. The exhaust oil discharge was very black. Someone said it was due to friction between the muffler and engine. Make sense? If so what solution do you propose? Could it be a bearing issue? No rough turning, strange sounds. Starts with one flip of the prop and runs fine. Thanks for your help!

I agree! Don puts together a fine kit. His instructions are great. Could almost scratch build from them alone.

Hello! Don Muddiman used to supply plans for his Flying Machine. Not sure he still does since Condor Hobbies is building an ARF. Don's website is http://www.eagle-i.us/fm/. Hope this helps.

RE: Roger Purcell's Scream Machine!!
Here is a YouTube video I shot yesterday with Roger Purcell flying his electric versions of the Scream Machine, The Reaper, and his latest creation, the Mini Reaper. Windy day (20-25 mph according the the air sock at the airfield next door). Tough to get low to the ground and it was difficult for Roger to keep it in close. I was filming using my iPhone so I had no zoom capabilities. We'll do a better one in the near future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEtW3SkYBVY

Uh...Pat...I know the 'designer.' Taught me more about flying than anyone else! Never fails to push me to my limits. He gives back to the hobby. If he wanted to 'yell' at you he wouldn't use bold print...He wouldn't hide behind a forum...He'd do it to your face! You don't have to like our planes, but until you have at least flown something like a Scream Machine, you should keep uninformed opinions at check. No need to get personal.

You got that right, Roger! LOVE the Jett .50 BSE! Different sound, response, power curve, light weight. Sounds like an F1 race engine! Believe me when you fire one up EVERYONE pays attention. Not because it's loud, but it's just strong!

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Don used to recommend even the .46AX with tuned pipe. Personally I've used the .55 AX with tuned pipe and had excellent results! Either will work fine. Also, don't worry about flying the FM. As McDDD said, the plane will be as wild or as mild as you set it up to be. Great landing plane. Very predictable.

Mrsand, I think you're gonna want a pretty hot two-stroke for the FM. Weight and speed are important here.

Thanks Roger! Tomski, and others who want plans, I am in the process of creating new templates for the Scream Machine that are easier for me to get reproduced. Not what Roger is doing with the Reaper, but similar. I'll let you know ASAP! Sorry for the delay!!

RE: Roger Purcell's Scream Machine!!
Roger , thanks for taking the time to write on this thread. I started it for fellow RC pilots to discover the Scream Machine and all it's variants. To have you active on the thread makes a huge difference!! This genre of high speed aerobatic aircraft is not just represented by one well-known plane, but also by planes like the SM, Reaper, and Mini Reaper!! Keep the designs coming, please! I'll be posting pics of my new scratch built Big Green Scream Machine in a while!!! Thanks to you, Roger!

RE: Older Jett muffler
Thanks Bob. I'll call Dub. You're right! It does come alive!! Had to put my tuned pipe back on and the difference is noticeable. The guys at the field like the sound of the Jett Stream better as well. More like a F1 race engine than a model airplane!! [:)]

Older Jett muffler
I came across and purchased for a song an older red Jett muffler for a Jett .50 engine. It fit my OS .55 AX and ran great...at least for the first few flights. There is something loose inside the muffler, and I can't get it in a position to identify what it is. The engine is in one piece. I was not aware there were any baffles inside these pipes. Am I wrong about that? The engine starts fine but loses power in flight and soon dies. Do I have a loose baffle? If so is there a remedy? Doesn't appear the pipe can be disassembled. Thanks for your help!

I have a Jett BSE .50 I use on a Scream Machine. High speed aerobatics. I use 10x5 or 6, APC or Master Airscrew. Seems happy!

Chris, it's great to hear that. As you know, we've all had the experience of noticing something getting "loose" on our various ARF's, doing a little forensic surgery, only to find joints without glue along with the inexplicable fractures. With most ARF's you can land it, make the repair and no harm done. Not so with the FM! You'll be picking up the pieces! With a FM I don't believe overkill is a bad thing. Never fear! Don will sort it all out shortly.

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
I hear you! My Scream Machine (similar to FM) has a cowl-less design so pipe mounting is effortless. Not as pretty as a cowl but much more practical. I can get to the engine to correct any problems without a dismount. Can mount the engine at any angle.

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Spoken like a true ProBro!! If it can't handle extreme, it ain't a Flying Machine! I love it when the guys at the field lose count on the number of full throttle diving spins from out of sight altitude! And, the Flying Machine/Scream Machine design really gets the attention of young pilots, which is definitely great for the future of the R/C sport!!! After a flight they love to gather around and ask questions and talk about high speed aerobatics. By the way, Dave, I have a .46VF on a Scat Cat. How did you mount it on the FM and run the pipe/header? Sideways? Any mods to make it work?

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Awesome! Don't misunderstand me. I'm all about innovation. However, I know you guys will figure it all out!! I just know what some of us will do with these ARF's and will expect them to be at least as strong as our scratch-built aircraft. I've NEVER seen any ARF that can withstand the flight envelope we see in the Flying Machine/Scream Machine scratch-built designs. You guys have a huge task to make that happen in an ARF and stay within the price point you've mentioned. Thanks for the effort! By the way, I'd love to get in on some of that testing action!! Just sayin'! [;)]

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Hate to keep raining on the parade, but I just noticed the lightening holes in the fuse sides and bottom. That doesn't seem right to me knowing what I'm going to expect out of this plane. Again seems weak at what is perhaps THE most critical part of the airframe. So much stress there. I think it will break with the kind of flying some of us will do with this plane. Also, will there be any type of wing saddle on the inside of the fuse? I know Don and the design team will come to a good conclusion, but I think the wait just got a bit longer. I'm still excited, but now I'm wondering...
