Replacing connecting rod Magnum.61
Can someone tell me how to put a connecting rod in a magnum 4 stroke engine. I had one break during flight and had no trouble getting the old one out since it was in two pieces. I know there has to be a trick to it but I haven't figured out how to get the rod on the crank and piston at the same time. Thanks bkyrdflyer

RE: WACO YMF
Thanks stickbuilder. I am Jeff R. from Virginia. Look on my member profile for more info. I have been into RC for about ten years now. Can't get enough of it. Love the scale stuff.

RE: WACO YMF
Stickbuilder, While you are handing them out I would like to ask to be in the brotherhood. Just this year I have been getting into Wacos having admired them for a long time. I just bought a Pica 1/6 kit. Don't know when I will get to build it because I also just found a Sportsman Aviation 60 Waco arf that I am putting together. I plan on getting the new GP arf too when I can afford it. I don't know where it will lead but looks like I need to get in on this thing and start digging into this massive thread. Thanks

RE: NEW DLE30!
Thanks, Yours is the one I saw on the other thread I think. One other question. The user manual that came with my dle30 is pretty lame and includes nothing about setting the ignition up or breakin. Someone who has no expierience with a gas engine would be kind of lost. Anyone else feel this way?

RE: NEW DLE30!
Guys, What is best to use to extend the stock muffler pipe? I am putting a dle30 in a RC Guys decathlon and need about three more inches to clear the cowl. I saw one on another thread with a silicone extension but haven't been able to find one that big anywhere.

RE: WACO YMF
Hey guys, don't mean to change the subject but I have an update on the Great Planes Waco. I was looking on ebay this morning and found a seller who has five of these ARFs. I don't know how he beat Tower to the punch. They are buy it now for 479.00 plus 12.50 shipping. Stickbuilder is granting a brotherhood membership to the first to get one. I would buy one today if I had the money. Oh well... Looks like a good opportunity for anybody not wanting to wait on Tower.

RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
For any of you guys that are running the DLE30 on the SD. May I ask what kind of muffler you are using? I was thinking of going with a Bisson pitts and putting in a fitting for smoke. The stock muffler is way too short without some type of extension.

RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
I have had this plane sitting around for over two years waiting on the time and money to start it. I am getting ready to begin and have a new DLE30 to put on it. Having read the posts about the loose covering I checked mine out and it looks like I might have some issues as well. For all you guys that have dealt with this problem. How would it work to cover the entire wing and tail in clear monocote instead of sticking clear sections over the stars and such? Whatever I go with I want to do it during the build before I get gas or oil on it.

RE: GP Waco?
Guys, care if I jump in? I am wanting one of these planes and have read this entire thread. I think the engine issue is also one of what sound you want along with cleanup. I love the fourstroke sound but also the price of gasoline compared to glow fuel and the lack of glowfuel on my plane. I believe if I went to gas I would choose a G26. Seems like a good compromise between a DL30 and DL20.

Well, I will do what I can because I like their products and will be buying from them. My first tail dragger was a 4 star and it's still one of my favorites. I wish Sig the best.

RE: How Many Builders Are Left?
Stickbuilder, I have seen it. Great job. I just bought a Pica 1/6 scale Waco on ebay and will be looking to your huge post for ideas. Are there any 1/5 scale waco kits out there? Good to talk to you.

RE: How Many Builders Are Left?
Well, let me throw one more angle into the mix. If I could by an ARF of every type of plane I wanted then I wouldn't build it because I simply don't have the time. The problem for me is they are not making many of the planes I like such as vintage bipes. And with an ARF you have to take what ever color scheme they put on it and you can't choose the material. With a kit you have so many options. Seems to me that for most companies their bread and butter these days is electric flight. Open a RC magazine and it seems every other page has an ad relating to electrics.

RE: Kudos to Sig
What has happened to them. I hadn't heard anything except that some of the guys at my field said they were making plane kits to order instead of keeping them in stock. I was thinking of getting a 1/4 scale cub and four star 60 kit to put back for later but the money has been tight.

RE: Good covering jobs!
Here is my Goldberg Chipmunk. All Ultracote. I have found that a few inexpensive tools make all the difference. I use a Topflight Smartcut tool to cut clean straight edges. A Smartstripe tool enables you to cut precise stripes of any width. Thought this might help someone who is looking to cover their first model.

RE: Pica Waco
Great looking plane. The only other one I have built was a Goldberg Super Chipmunk. It turned out nice so hopefully I can make it regardless of the poor manual with the Pica kit.

RE: Goldberg super Chipmunk build
I built one of these 2 years ago and it is one of my favorite planes. I have a Magnum .91 on mine. Plenty of power. The only problem is that the inverted Magnum loads up very easy. It took me a while to get it tuned. Rolls and snaps are quick with this plane. I was surprised just how aerobatic it turned out to be.

RE: Pica Waco
Yea. I saw that plane for sale but it couldn't be shipped. Thanks guys for the info. If I don't pull my hair out building the Waco I might try to find the 1/5 scale version. That is really the size I was looking for.

Pica Waco
Ok guys, I just bought a Pica Waco 1/6 scale kit on Ebay. I know I will be searching the many threads on this model for information. For now I would like to know if I gave too much for it. I don't know what they are worth but have wanted one for a while. I gave $200 shipped. I figure they probably sold for less when they were in production?

RE: Chris Chianelli
I never missed seeing Chris' show when it was on DYI. A lot of people like myself would never have gotten into this great hobby had it not been for the exposure RC has gotten on TV and the internet. I was just going to modelairplanenews.com to look at his new web show when I saw the sad news of his death. What a shocker. He couldn't have been very old. Does anyone know what happened to him? Had he been sick?

RE: Super Chipmonk build
Hope you don't mind one more chipmunk fan chiming in. I built a CG kit last year and was able to fly it four times before winter set in. This was my first kit build after flying only arfs for about 5 years. I love the plane. One thing I did is to build servo bays in each side of the wing instead of using the single servo setup with all the flimsy linkage. I put a magnum .91 4 stroke in it and bought the fiberglass specialties cowl and wheel pants. The radio is JR with 821 digital servos. The only thing that scared me on my maiden flight was how sensitive the ailerons are. I put expo in the ailerons, rudder, and elevator to tame it down a bit...
