RE: Glassing
thats amine blush, don't mix hardeners, and do wash with soap and water if the first coat goes past sticky, maybe normal hardener at 1 hour or less at 70* f . another real good method is to use a polyester cloth over the top of the 1st coat as a peel ply, one of the guys here recommended it and it works a treat, just put on your fiberglass and resin then squegee the polyester or nylon cloth over the top, let it harden completely and the top poly just peels away, it has a slightly rough surface ( the shape of the weave) which sands out easily. by far the best way to go, and only 1 app required

i built a sepecat jaguar a few years ago, flew nicely but with a bit a aileron wobble on a p80, which the ordinance seemed to dampen, (who needs gyros?). still got it, and thats the public service aspect of Ians thread here, i'm getting a hankering to get it out and spruce her up. thanks ianober, now i will have no time for chores!

RE: Fly Eagle 1/6 scale F-16 Build Thread
g'day fender, have been watching this thread and hoping all would go ok for your test flight. i wrote the thread S/M F16 in my hot little hands. i still have this model and still love it as much as tor (icepilot) loves his, maybe more . its had the odd bingle, even after 300 + flights over 5 years , i can get the nerves, land hot or land 1 foot wide or land slow. try not to pay too much attention to the throttle position, just the model speed. my f16 has no flapperon so slow to 60-70 mph, drop the gear and present those big main doors to the air flow with a bit of alpha and a fair bit of power, i'd say it might be 5 degrees nose up and hanging on the elevator,if it climbs, its too fast, you would have maybe 1/4 elevator and 1/2 throttle(not climbing, descending or speeding up), and just drive it through the circuit, maybe a little more throttle downwind if its a windy day, just back off throttle a smidge going to base and let it descend, the roll to the turn does most of the work for the turn and the descent replaces some power (NOT ALL), by that i mean you should still be on the elevator 1/4 , stay on the power, but keep the nose UP , roll to final and you should be still at 1/4 elevator and AT LEAST 1/3 throttle and descending. at this point, if you feel long or short, a flip of power will stop it sinking, just don"t pull the elevator , it will just slow down, just drive it out on power. a real confidence booster i have found on early flights is to drop the gear after 2 or 3 minutes, and then start driving it around the circuit at height with alpha and power, just getting used to the nose high look, to land nicely it touches down with lots 1/3? power and maybe 3/4 elevator to flair . i personally don't like expo, you can suddenly have a surge of movement, but to each their own. i know this has been a little long winded but with a bit of technique it lands like a trainer at maybe 35 to 45 mph depending on wind, 50-60 mph in the circuit. good luck mate

RE: Air cylinders
i use robart whenever i can, they make 3/8" by 1/2 in, 1in, 2,5/8 in. they have o lot of power, 11 lbs i think at 100 psi. they rarely leak (unless your 'friend' pulls up the gear switch in the pits!) you can easily get an 'o' ring and service set and you'll get them from tower hobbies quick. they get to the other side of the world in 5 days. and they are made in america (or are they?)

RE: JetCat Start Problem
0.4 to 0.5 is a high start value, so expect some flames as the engine transitions to normal fuel. remember that the kero start is only pre-heating the combustion chamber, imagine a gas start engine with a pump start voltage that high, its a bar-b-que ! i would encourage you to (if th engine is in the airframe ) make a closed loop in the fuel system, by putting the line that enters the engine back into the fill valve and hold the pump test button on for a total of 40 - 60 minutes, then check / adjust the pumps start voltage, and / or temporarly install an on/off tap after solenoid and before the engine, and only allow a dribble of fuel in on start. be careful of allowing 0.5 worth of fuel in at start-up, especially if its in the airframe. you may not burn it, but the pipe will certainly not appreciate it

RE: Wanted Skymaster 1/6 F -16 or The large Yellow F-18
i've got both and you ain't gettin either one! the f 18 is getting close to being ready with a j/c p200 and the skymaster f 16 has around 250+ flights over near 4 years. from everthing i've heard about the big yellow hornet its a great flyer, but its also big building effort, as well as many modifications to make it turbine safe. the skymaster is pretty good as is, just check everything you can think of, and the landing gear is just the ducks guts, i regularly dump it hard for a touch and go like the full size j-055 and the gear is the best lg i've ever seen on any model in 35 years. 4 sets of tyres (worn down through the treads) and only the seal for the air over oil oleos (read REAL oleos) needed replacing after 3 years. i think i love mine more than tor loves his !!! oh yeah, back to topic, you can't go wrong with either one

RE: wren 44 blade failure
ORIGINAL: sideshow
ORIGINAL: frema Dont put this failures on this forum . Its not good for the name of Wren. Dont ask the forum viewers ,but ask Sara of Wren directly.
I hope this was a language barrier or troll post. I don't think you shouldn't post stuff because of the Manufacturer's name, I also don't you should post things just to trash a Manufacturer. That all being said, and I've never owned a Wren (Jetcat only), they seem to be VERY responsive to issues (real or perceived) with their engines. There seems to be a pride at the company in ease of use and reliability with their motors. There's a reason their customers are so loyal. If there is truly a problem, they will remedy it. Let Wren work the problem and I can almost guarantee the OP will be back posting that he is a happy camper......just sayin'.
sorry mate but you and me must buy different makes of engine .i could not conceive of more pathetic, i won't say dishonest, but i will say disinterested, lack of service or ''duty of care". i am out over $7,500 aud ($6,000 u s) from both sides of the pond. nearly 2,000 for a repaired engine that lasted 8 runs, and so very nearly destroyed my f 16,(6 months) and 5,500 for a 160 sx ,4 runs, blown ignighter, sent for service, lost!(12 months), common reply? (AFTER payment) tell someone who cares. this is not a tall tale or a flame, i had to work a lot of overtime to indulge myself these luxuries, and now can't fly, and have to wait like a begger because i'm not the editor of a mag. going by previous form from these "gentlemen", i'm expecting nothing less than nothing. i know i really should be more patient. ps expecting to be banned from rcu for badmouthing the buddys

RE: gear to brake mix jr10x
mix your brake channel to gear switch to hold full brakes on with gear up. your brakes should not lose pressure during the flight, depending on valve type of course, a bvm or the new jetronic don't use much air, i think 2 psi per cycle, on with gear up and off with gear down is only 1 cycle. i mix nose steering off and brakes off with gear up, you can command most channels to position. been a while since a big programming effort for me but i'm sure someone will chime in with detailed "how to's " or this ain't R.C.U.

Here here David G, i agree completely. I seem to recall that not to long ago one of David Shulmans' models crashed in a fireball runway centre, hardly "dumb thumbs" but highly demonstrative of the need to resist the temptation to "let your hair down" and toss S.O.P. out the window.

g'day john, i'd like to take this opportunity to unreservedly apologise for the tone of my last post, it was quite unwarranted, verbose and ill directed. i'll persue the engines through intairco, the proprietor of which loaned me an engine when the sx played up so really a finer gent one would be hard pressed to find and i should think myself lucky to have such friends. short of any satisfaction through this course of action i'll take up your generous offer of help. i must make much more of an effort to measure my responses, sorry for coming across as so petulant and petty, and better luck this time in the ashes! yours in embarrassment jeff sparkes
