FMS T-28 Retracts
I was wondering if anyone has replaced the stock retracts and if so, what retracts did you use. I know with FMS/Banana Hobby stuff you get what you get, but the plane is so nice I would like to use a set of retracts that actually go all the way up and remain up instead of hanging down when you retract the gear. Just sort of makes the plane look like crap when your flying it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jason

RE: TBM Shock Jet
The one thing I noticed is you battery is back by the ECU. I placed all 3 batteries as far forward as possible and that helped with the balance. In fact, after I added the second 2600mAh Li-Ion in the nose for the receiver, it balanced with no additional weight needed. Just an FYI on maybe shifting your batteries in the nose to help. Also, I did not have to shim anything on the motor and I did not touch the trims and still haven't. Also, watch how much down elevator you mix with the flaps. I added what TBM sort of recommends as a starting point and it was too much for me. The nose pitched down pretty good but I was still able to easily manage it with the stick. So I dailed out a bit and now for full flaps I am almost using what they recommend for half flaps and no elevator mixed with half flaps. Now, that is my set up and everyone else is different just letting you know what I am seeing with mine and the P-70 combo. Hope it helps. Jason

RE: TBM Shock Jet
I have a P-70 in mine and you will love that combo. I don't have the TBM tank in mine because I have the Jet-Tech tank but either way you will love it. Very easy flier and you won't have any issues. Good luck with the maiden and with your waiver. Keep up posted on how you do as well as the plane. Jason

FMS T-28 Trojan
First, I will start by saying I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but I guess you have to start somewhere. I just bought one of the FMS T-28 Trojans from Banana Hobbies and just had a quick question to see if anyone has a solution. I fly turbine jets, giant scale 3D, 50cc gas warbirds so I am not a beginner just wondering what some of you have done. The question is the electric retracts. I took it out tuesday for the first flight and I noticed the main gear did not stay up all the way in the wells and so the inner gear doors were hanging open and the wheels were hanging just a bit. This is my first plane from FMS or Banana Hobbies and was wondering if this is pretty much common and that is just how they are or if there is a way to adjust them up a little more. I have read so many mixed reviews and comments about the Banana Hobbies stuff but I have always like the looks of the FMS T-28 so I finally bit the bullet and get one. It flies very nice and very scale and the looks for an electric are awesome. Just wish the gear tucked up a little nicer in the air. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Jason

RE: Quick Question
I was going to use a dubro, but the dream works set up with the quick connects looks very nice and a clean install so I ordered one. My biggest question was more just about the plumbing and venting issues. I just wanted to make sure that the taxi tank needed to be vented and so forth to confirm my set up. Thanks guys. Always great info. Jason

RE: Quick Question
Thanks. I was pretty sure of how I thought it might work just wasn't sure about the vent for the taxi tank. That was where I was a bit stumped. What are the fitting called from dreamworks? I'll got there and check it out. Thanks again. Jason

Quick Question
I am still fairly new to turbines and haven't had the need until now to use an aux. tank for start up and to taxi out until now and was wondering how you guys plumb that aux. tank. Does it just have the one line that plugs into the vent out side the plane? Just curious if someone could send me some pictures or just some good advice for someone still getting his feet wet with jets. The nearest guys that fly jets to me is about 2 hours drive each way so any useful info is gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jason

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Just got my shock jet this week from TBM. I have a couple of questions. I see it comes with the flat "dubro" style hinges, but I do not see anywhere in the ailerons, flaps, elevator or rudder where they cut slots for hinges. Is this common or am I missing something? Also, I was looking through the bags of hardware and only notice there is 1 carbon pushrod. There is a seperate bag with almost the exact same hardware, just minus the carbon rod. I assume the 2 carbon rods are suppose to be for the rudder and elevator. Overall, pretty happy with the covering and how everything is packed. Just trial fitted the parts and they all go together great. I am putting a JetCat P-70 in it so it should be fun. Any help with the hinges or what you guys have seen or did I would greaty appreciate it. Thanks. Jason

TBM Shock Jet with JetCat P-70?
Does anyone have any install or suggestions for installing the JetCat P-70 in the TBM Shock Jet? I just ordered a new Shock Jet today as sort of an easy grass field turbine as opposed to my Velox. Just wanted something that is short field, grass capable and the Shock Jet sort of fit the bill and for the price you can't really go bad. Just wondering if someone out there installed a P-70 in one and if there are pictures of the install just as reference. Thanks in advance. Jason

Does anyone know where or who makes a FOD screen for the P-70? I just bought the turbine from a flying buddy and I haven't been able so far to locate anything about a FOD screen for the P-70. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jason

41% Extra parts
Does anyone know of or have a spare canopy hatch laying around that they would sell. I would also be interested if someone had a spare set of wings with the red/white/blue scheme. Basically just seeing what is still out there for parts for one of these awesome flying planes. Mine is still very much flyable and I love it, just needs a little TLC here and there. It is around 5 years old and still going strong so if Tom is out there and knows where some spare parts are, I would be more than interested. Jason

RE: Aeroworks Carbon Spinner
Thanks Mark, I do not know now what the length was because I have cut some of the threads off to see if I could get it to work. I talked to someone at Aeroworks today, I believe Ken with R&D, if that is not right I am sorry. All he told me was go to the hardware store and get a new bolt. That sort of ticked me off a little because the problem is, no where here has the bolts needed for this. So, I would have to order one, pay shipping and wait until it comes in. Seems a bit of a headache considering I paid for a complete spinner including the center bolt. I will measure what I have left and guess how much I cut off, but the problem more than anything is almost like they didn't cut enough threads when they made the bolt to begin with. All I know is it needed to be a good 1/2" shorter than the bolt I got. Thanks again Mark. Jason

RE: Aeroworks Carbon Spinner
That would be awesome. I would have to go measure to make sure. I believe the length I need is around 4.5"-5" If you have one I would greatly appreciate it. Jason

RE: Aeroworks Carbon Spinner
I tried that already. I can not shorten it anymore without removing all the threads. It is bottoming out where the threads end and the smooth part of the bolt begin. The head of the bolt sticks out too far past the nose of the spinner. It should sit in the spot and be flush, but it does not. Jason

Aeroworks Carbon Spinner
I just received my 5" carbon fiber spinner from Aeroworks on Friday and I am a little confused about the center bolt that came with the spinner. For one, it is too long and bottoms out before the spinner is tight. So, did I get the wrong lenght bolt for this spinner? It is a 5mm x .80 so finding one around here at any hardware store is next to impossibe. I know, I have been out driving around all morning. What sucks is I paided just a tad higher shipping to make sure I had it here by Friday because I needed it for this plane. Well, now I am back to square one. I have a $115.90 (that includes shipping price) spinner that I can not use until I find the right lenght center bolt that will actually tighten down like it should. If anyone from Aeroworks could help me out, I would be greatful. Also, this is for a DA-150 so I don't know if that matters or not. Thanks in advance. Jason

RE: DLE-20 issue
Thanks WillieG. I have never ran the ignition on any of my gas motors on anything over 6V. I have on almost all my installs used the Smart-Fly Ignition regulator and it has worked great. Smart-Fly stuff is pretty bulletproof. Now, with that said, that doesn't mean it can't fail. Anything man made can fail as we all know. The Smart-Fly igntion regulator regulates the power down to a fixed 5.2V which is what a fully charged 4.8V pack would top out at roughly. Thanks again and it is more info noted. Jason

RE: DLE-20 issue
I agree with that captain. The problem with chasing the needles is that is not really the correct way to tune a motor. On a gas motor, you should not have to ever go very far either way from the factory setting. Some cases are different depending on altitude and so forth. The issue doesn't tune out on the ground. I have had motors where they sound great on the ground and the second you take off they go crazy rich. That has been solved with baffling or running a tube back inside the fuse. This motor sounds the same on the ground as it does in the air. I am not asking for free part to fix my motor. I never ask for anything free. What I ask for and maybe wrongfully expect, is that I should at least get a motor that runs and runs the way it should. If it does not and I have tried everything I can from my end, then I should be able to send it in under a warranty and have it looked at and made right. Now, if I am wrong for expecting that, then call me crazy. Also, just because people call a service center and feed you a line of BS, does not mean every customer calling needs to be treated as so. I have a reciept and proof of purchase I can easily provide. This motor was purchased through Aero-Works as part of a combo deal that they offer. Now, I did not ask Aero-Works where they purchase the motor because it is not my business, it is thiers. All I know is that it was new in the box when I got it. So, if ValleyView is upset because someone doesn't buy a motor from them, sorry. TowerHobbies sells them now, ChiefAircraft and I am sure there are more. Seems to me that it is more of a personal issue when people call to ask questions. Sorry you get so short but some people I am sure are not happy when they have to call a tech about issues with their new motor. You should realize maybe it is someones first gas motor and they are looking for help and get excited. Is that an excuse to get short with them? No. Now, that is not my case because I have and will continue to run giant scale gas motors all the way up too 170cc twins. Bottom line is, if the warranty isn't worth the ink it is printed with, just come out and say it. If a company holds a grudge because you didn't buy the motor from them and holds that against you when it comes to needing service, that is just sad. I will end it by saying I do not want to "figure it out for myself". That is what people who make a living servicing these motors do. I am and was simply asking for someone to stand up and make it right so I can fly my freaking plane without worrying about how crappy my motor is running. I stop figuring it out for myself when I do all the typical stuff I can do as the operator. When I change everything except the motor, there is nothing more I can do. I am finished with my figuring it out and now it is time for the companies who work on the motor itself to figure it out.

RE: DLE-20 issue
Well, I just spoke to the gentleman and I am going to ship him the motor and he is going to make it right. He also informed me that the ignition module with the #4 on them or to be correct 4# are known to have issues. So, I am just very greatful that there are some stand up guys left in the world that will do more for you than the companies who are suppose to stand behind their products and cover them under a warranty they offer with the motors. I guess I know what that warranty is worth. Jason

RE: DLE-20 issue
Jezmo, I was wondering about something like that as well. It is good to know that I am not the only one having or had issues. Mine is very hard starting by hand. It is not typical of an electronic ignition motor. I can flip until my arm is almost worn out before it will even pop. Even then, when it does start it will run for a few and die. It takes about 2-3 attempts of it running and dying before it will finally run, but run poorly. That is why it has had very, very short flights. I just do not trust it. It has not died in the air, but I do not trust it enough to do much and that is a crappy feeling when you have it on a profile and should be able to rip it up. Maybe the hall sensor/ignition is something to look at. Great info on what you have dealt with and how you resolved it. Jason
