Don Smith P-51
I'm debating which of the giant P-51s to build. I like the Don Smith for its size. I'm looking for feedback from those of you that have built and flown this one. I've heard good things about Don Smith airplanes so am I correct in assuming a well designed airframe and scale outline? Flight performance? Thanks for any input.

Lysander
I'm trying to find plans for a 100" or bigger Lysander. Homan plans sell plans by Dennis Bryant but they're 80". Frank Mizer plans sell a small one as well. There was an old thread from '03 mentioning a 128" set by Len Bosman. Anybody have a fresh copy of these that would be willing to copy a set? Failing finding a bigger set I'll just enlarge one of the previously mentioned smaller ones. Any feedback on the Holman/Bryant or Mizer plans? Thanks.

I know these are sought after vintage radios. They still have the originall servos and receivers. I'm curious about the batteries they used and what I should look for in this collection to see if I have them. I may keep them to start a collection of old radios and would like to learn more about them. Thanks in advance for any information on history and/or value of these systems.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
Race News: Modelcar Cup, 1-11-09 Carlos Duraes, GS/RB factory driver, drove to a first place finish from a starting six places back. Non-sponsered driver, Jorge Torres, GS/RB driver, took second after a hardfought battle. A battle made more difficult by losing time due to his shell coming off mid-race. There were XRay,HoBao and other buggies in attendance as well.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
The Pro Storm does have a longer wheelbase so the dogbones from your old one may not work. However, I have my original Storm RTR converted to anPro and am using the fuel tubing trick you mentioned and havn't broke anything in the driveline since the conversion 4 years ago. If your still breaking them make sure everything else in the driveline is in smooth working order. Otherwise, the new dogbones are dirtcheap and the ones with the cvd's on one end are pretty cheap to. Both can be found on ebay. Good luck, Brett

RE: Why is being older a handicap?
Mindset. Think old and you'll drive old. Besides, it just takes some people a lot longer to get the hang of it. Good eyesight. Near-sightedness I think has a huge affect on depth-perception, and to a smaller extent, probably reflex to. I'm 34 and near-sighted w/o glasses and I still do alright. Good eyesight or not, practice, practice, practice. Basically, in my opinion, if you think you're hanicapped then you are, if you don't then you're not. Yeah I'm only 34 so what do I know, right? My Gram will be 100 in July and she thinks positive every day of her life, so I've benefited from her wisdom. Just practice and have fun. As long as you're having fun, nothing else matters. Or if you decide competition is not your thing, buy a monster truck and go bashing at construction sites. Well, enough preaching. Happy racing and keep the shiny side up

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
Of course, race season isn't here yet and it will be the ultimate test, but are any of you having problems with your front and rear driveshaft joints wearing prematurly? Some of our GS drivers in the Phillipeens report a little premature wear. If you've experienced this and found a fix please share it. Especially with me since mine hasn't run yet[:D][:)]Happy racing and keep the shiny side up. Brett. Up Side Down Racing Team . By the way, I've started a GS thread on rcnitrotalk.com. I hope you'll all post there some to. The more places we share our experiences with GS products, the more likely they are to regain popularity in the US. Sure, we're just a dozen guys or so now, but it has to start somewhere.

RE: i want a new buggy
I'm going to reccomend a buggy you may not have heard of. GS Racing CL-1+. Check out our GS thread on this site and the one on rctech. This buggy is extremely popular in different countries and was handled by Horizon Hobbys for a while. It's now being sold by Amainhobbies.com for 279.99, this is a steal. This buggy can hang with any other buggy on the market. They started at 399.99 are now at 279.99 due to GS's lack of publicity which is due to lack of advertising. In Taiwan, Portugal, Spain, the Phillipeens etc. this buggy is as popular as Losi's and OFNA's are here. Their lack of popularity is our gain, we can buy a race ready roller for 280 bucks. I know the last GS buggy, the Storm, to be durable and raceable. Although I havn't raced my Cl-1 yet I've heard from those who have that say it's GS's best yet. The only drawback is that you may have to order a part if your hobby shop can't get them. This is the only kit in your general price range that you can bash and race as your skills grow. And I'd reccomend it at any price. They also have a new version of the old Storm called the Storm Evolution RTR in the same price range. If you don't like this one check out OFNA line, they may have one in your price range. Good luck with whatever you buy and above all have fun!

RE: What Buggy?
Check out the GS CL-1 Plus at Amain hobbies. It's clear down to $305. It should be about a 4 or $500 buggy. The buggy can hang with any buggy on the market in the hands of drivers on the same skill level. It's inexpensive due to lack of publicity in the US. You may have to order parts through Amain if you can't find them at a local hobby shop. It's inexpensive(not cheap,as in junk), it's extremely durabale, ready to race with no upgrades, and I think you'll see it grow in popularity in the US. The guys in the Philippenes are doing very well and running neck and neck with a lot of the brands we hear more of in the US. Bottom line is that it's a world class buggy kit at a RTR price. The buggy has the potential in the right hands and I like having something a little different at the track. Whatever your choice, good luck with it and have fun in this hobby.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
I've learned through other CL-1 owners that the rear lower hinge pin holder will flex enough to let your hinge pins slide out over the course of a long heat. The plastic piece included with all the CL-1 kits is apparently designed to flex so that it will break before the diff case does. Marcus has had no problem with his diff cases and has been running the car with the aluminum upgrade. I'm hearing that this is the only upgrade the car really needs out of the box. Sure wish I could give firsthand advice on this but I'm not going to risk damaging my NR Rex P5 by breaking it in in below freezing temps. I may get impatient though and pull the RB 3 port oout of one of my Storms. Pics coming as soon as the body is painted and I can figure out how to post them. Brett, Upside Down Racing Team

Stock motors, what's legal?
I want to get into stadium trucks. Are 13.5 turn brushless motors the ROAR approved motor for stock classes or is it 17.5? Also, I've seen some motors rated, for instance, as 4600kv. How does this equate to number of turns? Or maybe they are unrelated, I obviously don't know much about this yet. Thanks for any input.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
There are some guys from the Phillipines posting on rctech and saying they get a lot of support over there and the GS+'s are very popular there. I hope they'll post here as well. I just finished my Advanced CL-1. Put a P-5 I've had laying around for years. It's new though and I don't know about breaking it in right now. We're getting sleet in Kansas right now. I hate to see it just set, but I'd really hate to damage the engine. Have you guys broke em in in the cold? I'm thinking if I let it cool down inside it might be alright. On the flipside it will take longer to run up to temp outside. Will that hurt it you think? Or maybe I should play it safe and wait . I'd sure like to see the CL-1 run though and I've run engines that were broken in in this weather. What do you all think? I'll get pics when I borrow the cam and post them. Thanks guys!

RE: E-Firestorm racers
This is exactly my question? Is it race worthy on a local, stock class level? You both say yes? Has anybody else out there raced these E-Firestorms? What did you think? We have some pretty good local drivers. I see a lot of Associated and Losi trucks, I'd like something a little different. I hope the E-Firestorm can be relatively competitive with these trucks. What do you all think? Thanks.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
I've consulted several sources on my question about which Pro Line body will fit our CL-1s the best. The promotions coordinator at Pro Line says the Jammin is the best fit. St 1 is right to about the 777 body, I've heard that now from several guys to. The MBX5 body works fine, is just a bit tighter fit. So that's the order of them that work. I really like the look of our stock CL-1 bodies, just don't like paying $40 as opposed to $22 or $23 for a Pro Line or other after market brand.

RE: GS Storm and Storm CL-1
Thanks for the post Seth. The Storm I bash with is about the same age as yours, seldom break anything. When I do, it's trying a triple and landing up-side-down with all the force on the wing mounts and of course it usually breaks the plastic. 35 mph, land directly on the back of the wing? Can't blame anyone but me. Have you checked out the new Storm CL-1 Advance Plus at A Main online. It should be 4 o$500 and they had it down to $340 last I saw. Can't believe they can sell it so low. Sooner or later I'm going to get ahold a someones dig cam and take some pics. You guys keep postings yours and I'll try to keep up. Brett, Up-Side-Down Racing Team

RE: Great Proyect !!!, Ofna 9.5 Pro with two engine ofna .32 !!!
The project truck I saw this done to, a Kyosho USA-1, used a modifed engine on one side. Modified for counter-rotation. It was in RC Car Action, I've even got the article still. The first picture shows the front end lifting as the front tires look like sandrail tires as they get thin from the force. Glue good and fill them with something stiff. Also, at least one tank and the battery were mounted in front. Whatever else you decide, I'd go with some kind of truck with this so you can put both tanks and battery pack up front and still have it covered by the truck body. Good luck, and let us know how it's coming.

Yeah, it'll be tough, but it's my dream, everybody should have a dream. Just as long as they don't lose touch with reality of their everyday lives. I don't plan to carry any more than I have to jusst enough to keep the racers on the track when breakages occur, but I know how fast parts add up, especially on this scale. I'll keep only a few of the more popular race kits and rtr's and beginner stuff. They say "Where there's a will, there's a way", I just have to find it. Thanks for the input guys.

RE: i just got a Kyosho TURBO Inferno.... need some sugestions
Don't worry about your drive train. I still run a Kyosho Nitro USA-1. It's based directly on the Kyosho Burns, which I think was their first real attempt at 1/8 scale 4wd. The Inferno and Turbo Innerno came next and should be even tougher. I've worn out 2 OS RFBs, one OS RG and am now running a XTM 247 in the truck and it has seen a lot of abuse. The only gears I've ever replaced are counter gears, which were added to gear down for the huge tires, so you don't even have to worry about that. Some of the older hobby shops have baskets of old parts all mixed together, I've spotted some here locally for my USA-1. You might find some that way in addition to the great links you've already been given. 20 yrs old or not it's still a great basher and good on the track, even if not competive with the new ones. Good luck with it and have a blast!

RE: Great Proyect !!!, Ofna 9.5 Pro with two engine ofna .32 !!!
Your engines will have to be almost perfectly tuned. I remember a project monster truck with two engines and it was very hard to start second without killing the first. Once everything was running smooth it was a blast. Just don't let it run out of fuel for two or three tanks so you don't have to deal with this often. Also, it's total overkill for a buggy, even if you're gearing up for top speed. It looks like the perfect chance for an awesome monster truck. The one I spoke of was hard to handle and was constantly breaking the tire bead off the rims when the tires spun so fast the pulled in towards the center of the wheel. Whether you go with a buggy or a truck, I would fill the tires with something more solid than foam to prevent this. Looks awesome though, good luck.

Hey guys, does anyone know which after market body is best suited to the CL-1? I've heard it's very similar to the Jammin. True? Never looked close at a Jammin. Pro Line has a lot of nice bodies and I'd like to find one to fit my GS. Sure there may be some trimming involved, just checking my options before I buy the name brand so over-priced.

Want to start a hobby shop/track. I want all the consumer opinions I can get. What would you consider the ideal outside dimensions for an 1/8 scale off road track? Lane width in straits, turns, etc.? I've noticed that wherever I go the track layout is decided by the owner to an extent but mostly to driver input, I like that. Your thoughts? Thanks guys. Keep the shiny side up.

Looking to open a hobby shop/track in the near future. Always looking for input so I'd like as many different opinions as you'll give me. Track size: Indoor, off road, what minimum dimensions and lane width is preferable? 1/8 scale outdoor, same question. I've noticed huge variations when it comes to the track layouts. It seems to be at the track owners descretion and/or the input of local racers that dictates this. My overhead will be kept as low as possible to start. As a consumer, I know it's fun to see kits on the shelfl Being a track as well, would you sacrifice some of the eye candy to have parts available on raceday? I know I would but that't due in part to my own unique driving style(up-side-down). Thanks guys. Keep the shiny side up

RE: which .21?
From my own experience, I have a RB 3 port that is 5 yrs old with about 5 gallons run through it and compression is still tight enough to put a tremendous load on my old starter box. The engine still rips. I've owned an O.S. RG, one of their budget engines. It was awesome to. Bottom line is don't get caught up in all the latest greatest stuff. A beginning to intermediate racer is going to waste a lot of that extra power anyway learning to race, I know I still do. Well, there's my opinion, good luck in whatever you decide. Happy Racing
