RE: Model Aircraft Starting Bench (GSWAM Style)
I am 76 years old, and my legs do not have the strength to get up out of a chair or off the ground with out using my arms. I requested at my club to be able to put a starting bench at the field that I would build my self. I stated that any one could use it as long as I was not flying, when I flew I would use the bench, club agreed to this. We now have seven benches at the field and all are being use, the club payed for six of the benches and I think there will some more made. One of our members went to a local lumber yard with his trailer, and asked to look at lumber that yard had rejected for sale, he got his trailer loaded with enough treated lumber for the six benches for about three hundred dollars, we also put wheels on the benches they can be moved by the field mower. RE: If there was no ARF's, would you still be in the hobby?
When I got in to this hobby there were no arfs, so i would still be in the hobby if all arfs disapeared today.I firmly beleive that if you have not built at least three kits and flown them you are not an rc modeler but an rc flyer. Bob36[8|]

RE: New Years Day Fly In
My club had new years day glider contest for 20 years ,2006 was the last contest we had as it just got to cold for us old guys to enjoy any more. The only thing that shut down the contest was rain, we flew in heavy wind and snow and one time it was like 18%. At times you would lose sight of your glider because of the heavy snow fall, I just watched an old video of one of our contest and I can not beleive how cold i looked in the video, good old days maybe not. RE: Introduce yourself
We need A hoosier here, my name Bob Watson, now retired age 71 still active in rc. Started in rc in1965 ,prior to rc did the usual rubber powered and controline stuff. Not very good at control line or free flight, did a lot better in rc, flew patternn 70s and 80s. Had an AMA air show team for about four years, had a great time with it, but age and health problems caught up with me and had to drop the show team. I have met the greatest people in this hobby and it is the most fun I have ever had with my clothes on.

RE: The Outlaws and the Independents
I like the basin posts and I live in Indiana I find them interesting what with the different personaltys involved. It makes me feel more secure at my home field and club. There is a group of out laws in my area I have flown with them on several occasions and personaly like them all, I have even instructed some of them. But each time I visit them there is very little improvement in their flying skills, there a couple that will only make a approach from their left regardless of the wind direction. we have more new flyiers that have advanced a lot further and quicker than the outlaws in our club.

RE: It is not my intent to start a feud, BUT
I belong to a great club, we will talk to anybody that comes to the field, unless you just set in your car and do not get out. At every club meeting the first thing on the agenda is to ask if there are any visistor's and asked to introduce them selves and in turn the club members introduce them selves. Than the visitor's are aked if they want to join the club if so than they are voteded in, I do not know of any one being turned down.

RE: The Good Old Days
Ah the memories, the smell off dope and even some banana oil. I started in rc in 1965 like all of you I had to build everything including the clevis for the push rods. I built the digitrio radio from rcm articles, did the whole works made the box from flat stock wound all the springs etc. the only thing that I bought was the tx antenna and electroics. As for the current arf models I sure wish they had them in the day, I burned out on building after the first ten years, sure could of used a good arf or two then. Here's to us old farts that kept the hobby alive for all you yong poots. Bob
