RE: Auto Pilot and the death of R/C
I'm sure there are people who will embrace this technolgy. We already have the PA-1 out there now . I believe for most parts, most pilots want to control there planes with there transmittes and will not be interested. There may be some poor pilots and teckies you will use it, but I think eventualy it will be scourned at most club fields, mainly to the danger to other air craft in the sky unless there is a fail safe override and we all know Murphies law.. bob

RE: Nitro Fuel
A few years back the price of fuel spiked aand we were told that it was because China had to shut down a couple of nitro plants due tothe Olympics. Fuel came down last year and I paid 15.50 and 16.00 for several case of 15% O'donnels and Bryrons. This spring we got a spike again I just paid $21 for a few cases of 15% Byrons and it was the best deal my LHS could find. I have not heard what phoney excuse for picking our pockets is this time but it seams to be industry wide.

RE: A6E Intruder Test Flight
Beutiful plane. Looks like maticulas work to scratch build. Wonderful of you to share. I'll have to stick to gas and nitro. My wife is supportive, but not that supportive. I started late in life with RC and although I'm a fair pilot, I occasitionay dump one to mechanical failure or just stupity on my part. If I dumped something like yours I would be in mourning for months. bob

RE: OS 46/55 bearings bad again!
I've run Super Tigers, TT Pro's and OS's. I fly several times a week and have never lost a bearing other than a seal on the front bearing of a TT 61 pro. I've have used several brands of fuel, but always make sure they contain Castor. In my opion the most reliable engines for power, smooth idle, and dependable transition low speed to high are the OS's. I started with the Super Tigers because of price, but know I,m happy to pay the premium for the OS fx's and AX's because it saves me a ton of time and money not having to replace planes or make repairs due too flame outs. I live in dry climate and corrosion is not a problem. When I use an after run oil I and hate to admit it use being a diehart GM guy use Ford ATF it has the same properties of the high dollar after run oils on the market

RE: Is Hobbico Attempting To Monopolize The Hobby Industry?
ORIGINAL: G.Barber Did anyone stop to think that Hobbico may buy these other brands because the brand itself is failing? Take, for instance, Goldberg. Goldberg was on the down slope for a while. Hobbico may have seen it as a chance to bring back some of Goldberg's most popular models that would have otherwise be gone. Plus, Hobbico is at least giving, most of the acquired companies, their name on the products. Look at the Gentle Lady ARF. It is a Great Planes product, but it is still a Carl Goldberg Gentle Lady. Does every big business want the most customers? Yes. So if you want the most customers, you HAVE to sell the widest variety of product/services. I don't see any problem with this business practice. If you owned Hobbico, I would suspect you would run it the same way they are running it now. One other thing: my closest good hobby shop is a two hour drive, one way. I love being able to order my stuff over the internet and have it in just a few days! I just try to plan ahead, and keep the 'extra stuff' on hand. I also order extra things when I place an order, to keep a supply in my shop.
I agree with Mr Barber that Hobbico is doing us a favor to an extent by buying some of these failing companies. Yes they do pick the line for the best and dump the rest, but business is business. I some times buy from Tower because of the convienence and they sometimes have a great sale and free shipping that I cannot resist. Every time I save a few bucks it is few buck that I can spend on something else. I also have a club member that runs a little LHS out of his garage with a Great Planes Dealership. He stocks some basics and can get almost any thing that Tower has. He sells to use at Tower prices or a little less after adding 6% sales tax and orders once or twice a week and we pay no shipping. Works great for me.

RE: AVOID Nitroplanes!!!!!!!!!
I have not bought a Nitro for quite a while but the few I bought (low wing trainers when I was just starting) flew well , but I always went in with lots of CA and reglued everything I could reach and replaced all the hardware. So time in the future I may buy a nice build up P51 from them. I cannot bring myself to by a foamy, I do have the build up,not foamy 40 size Spitefire from Phoenix and have a OS 65AX in it and love it. I going to save a few more bucks and buy Hangar 9 Saratoga to put on floats first before I buy the P51.

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
I fly almost any day the wind is not over 5mph. Sometimes the wind chill here in Arizona can be real nasty. We do have a burn barrel if the hands get a little cool. Flying was one of my main reasons I headed south when I retired.

RE: New Great Planes Escapade 61.
Did they fix the landing gear position so it does not bounce all the way down the runway like the 40 size did.

Suggest that if your are using Spectrum,Jr that you go to there web site and read. I'm not that familar with Spectrum or JR, but if you are using them suggest that you take a look.

RE: Whats your occupation?
Occupation is retired. Do not know how I every had time to work. I now fly anytime the weather permits. Let me rephrase that fly, shot the bull and drink coffee any time weather permits. Live in Arizona now and fly 12 months a year. Use one or two gallons of nitro each month depends on the weather, but I worked hard for a lot of years to be able to enjoy my retirement.

RE: Warning, if you buy from Hobby King
In reply to Red Heads comment.
ORIGINAL: red head Buying junk because it was cheap has put a lot of American companies and Americans out of work / business . WE don't learn !!!! ENJOY !!! RED
There is hardley anything associated with the RC Hobby that is not built in the Far East. Some companys just have a better warranty, return policy, customer service represenitives, and higher profit margin.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I have had two. they go together easly and are great fliers with a 46 fx or ax, but if you dump one forget about the parts you might a well buy a new one. They realy explode and usualy all you have left is the tail section. I have seen the results of 4 crashes at our field. There is a bit of differnce in quality depending on which factory in China makes them and I'm pretty positive there are two from the differences I saw in my two.

RE: Who makes the best quality kit these days?
I whole heartily agree with a ARticCatRider Goldberg kits where truely well build, enginered and the manuels and documentation were the best. Realy sorry to see then go. My Ultimate 10-300 is a pleasure to fly especialy after I pulled the 75 0ut and installed a 90 2 stroke. I used CoverRite Fabric on it and it still looks almost as good as the day I finished it.

RE: Who makes the best quality kit these days?
ORIGINAL: huck1199 For cheap, decent arfs see CYRadio on fleabay. I have two and have seen others at the field.  Parts fit and seem to be fairly well put together.  I have the Fourstar Birdi and the Super Sports 40.  Value Hobby has the same planes.  The maker is AeroMax. Covering is very good.
I bought a skydancer from CYRadio and the only good thing I have to say about the kit is it flys good. I had to abandon the single servo for the alierons and open the wings and install servo mounts and drill for wire leads in each wing because the wood for the alierons was too soft and I ended up with about a 1/4in of play. THe engine mount supplied did not match the predrilled holes and blind nuts so I has to modify it buy drilling and installing new blind nuts. The fuse has a minimul amount of ply in it so finding a place to mount the switch was a problem and the off color piece of plastic for the canopy/pilot seat fit poorly and looks like junk. I acknowledge that this was a low cost kits, but this one needs a little reengineering to keep CYradio getting repeat business

RE: whats so good about 2.4 ghz?!?!?!?
If your driving a car or a rock crawler gliches and interference may be more a nuisance than a killer, if you are in competion it will take you out of contetion, but if your flying a plane a 300 ft off the ground it can be disasterous. I've moved most everything over to 2.4 and will continue to do so.

RE: O.S. 46LA lack of power
I,ve never found a 40 size engine that did not like a 10+7 prop. Did not realy matter if it was a APC or Master Screw

RE: O.S. 46LA lack of power
My first Escapade which I killed this week by screwing around on high rates had a OS 46 FX and was a fantastic flyer. The 46FX has more than enough power. My new Escapade should be here by the end of the week and I'll probaly pull my TT 46 Pro out of my Arocobra for a short time. I plan on buying a OS 55 AX in the near future to replace the OS 46 AX in my Strega then I will put the 46 AX in the Escapade. Recommend a OS 46 FX or AX over the LA's. The Thunder Tigre 46 Pro has a lot of zip to.
