RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
ORIGINAL: sandyjain
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie so if i have a spare module from a DL50 i bought back in 2007, and install it in my DLE 20, it wont hurt my performance?
Jody in an earlier post has advised that a DLE50/55 CDi will work with the DLE20 provided the timing is adjusted to 28-30* BTDC. I have recently run my DLE20 with a DLE55 CDi (a spare I got from sdshobby) after the adjustment of timing and it ran perfectly. I have to set the needles and will be doing it later in the week. My engine test bench does not have the provision to be able to adjust the needles of gas engines :-( I have to take the engine off. Regarding idle - I use the highest RPM that does not move my model, as the idle RPM - For the DLE20 it is usually about 1500 and all my 20's idle well at that RPM.
A very dumb question here. Also, I don't have a timing degree wheel and can't establish with precision TDC. To get to 28-30 degrees BTDC, how many millimeters have you turned the sensor? Looking at the prop from the front, you turn it to the right or left? Thanks in advance.

RE: DLE 20 & 30 ignition module
Replacing the #4 with CDI from the dle 55, would that improve the idling issue? Also if I did that, would I need to adjust the ignition timing? Any response from someone knowledgeable (like Jody [:D]) appreciated.

Thanks Jody for telling us about the #4 ignition module that comes with the dle 20. Your explanation describes accurately the erratic behavior of my dle 20 at those rpm.

RE: Small gassers not worth the investment!
I replaced my OS 1.20AX with a DLE20cc and although am experimenting a little problem with the idle (I believe because engine not broken-in yet), so far the little gasser has proven to be a superior solution on all fronts than the messy OS. My DLE has more torque, less operating costs, better reliability and even more peak power. I will never touch a glow engine again, ever.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I went to the field yesterday. I richened the LS needle to try to cure the high idle problem I was having. I had to open it by almost half a turn and it worked. However, the engine was running too rich, poor transition, etc. I flew anyway, to see if airborne the motor would behave differently but no, same thing. So, I leaned the LS needle little by little and ended up back around to where it was before. My conclusion is, that the engine is not nearly broken in and it will improve over time. I've run 1.5 gallons through it and you can tell already that it is running better than the first day. Towerhobbies says "break-in should be considered about the first 3-5 gallons you run the engine", I agree with that statement. Also tried the NGK CM6 (made in japan) plug but didn't notice any difference.

Yeah, I have the latter problem that you describe, high idle drops back to normal by itself after 20 seconds or so.

He was using 6v for ignition and switched to 4.8v and that fixed the problem, as I understand it.

A&PMECH, I am glad that you got the problem solved. Question is, you solved it because the throttle servo could not handle 6v and was moving erratically or because the cdi could not handle well a fully charged 5 cell NiMH pack? Also a1pcfixer thanks for replying my question.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I'm having trouble with the engine not coming all the way down to low rpm at idle. Sometimes it does and other times I have to wait 20 to 30 seconds. I am able to kill the engine with the throttle trim, no problem there. Otherwise, runs pretty good, considering I have only run it for about 5 hours. I ran it 2 hours on the ground as per manual and the rest flying. I use Motul 800 2T synthetic oil on a 30:1 mix, dle spark plug, shell v-power. Any advice on what to do appreciated.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I send you all of my wishes for a prompt recovery. One question though, you said the engine started at a high idle, was that your intention or was it a technical malfunction of some sort?
ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man However, I am disgusted, and not with the Chinese. I'm disgusted with all the people that don't have the ability to look past how much money they have in their pocket today, that don't have the patience or ability to save for a purchase, and are always seeking something for nothing. If people think I'm referring to a very large portion of the American public they are right. In their quest for ever cheaper ''stuff'' they have helped destroy this county's ability to be self sufficient and made us dependant on people that will work for less, eat for less, do without health insurance, subject their children to slave labor, and rampantly pollute the environment. All this while the bargain buyers are clamoring for their country to provide everything for nothing, protect the children, their jobs, and the environment. As their jobs are exported overseas and their wages and benefits diminish the best they can do is cry out for trade embargoes and ask for still more cheaper ''stuff''.
So I take it you don't have any DLE engines in your planes, otherwise you'd be among those Americans that are helping destroy the economy, right?

Is it true that ignition modules with 4# written on the label are known to have issues? I recently purchased one of these motors for my abused Funtana X100 and I am going through the break-in process. So far no issues, but the CDI has the #4 printed.[X(] Maybe master Jody can chime in with a comment? [:)]

R6014HS
How many amps and volts can the R6014HS rx take. I am building an extra 35% with 8 high torque, high voltage servos. I am thinking about using 2 lipo unregulated batteries connected directly to the rx. Can I do that, or should I use a power system?

RE: Filters
I saw a video on the internet of a pilot flying a 35% extra. He was explaining, after an awesome flight, the different components of his aircraft. I was surprised, when he pointed out that he added a filter to the vent line, to prevent dust from getting into the fuel system. He was flying in a somewhat dusty environment.

Has anybody tried a DL-50 with a Vess 22 C prop? Is that too much prop for the engine? Sometime ago I bought the C instead of the B that I intended to buy. Too late now, I am stuck with the C pitch as my backup propeller, currently I fly a JXF 22x10 with good results. I fly in cool weather, at sea level, an extra that weighs 16.5 pounds. Thanks in advance.

RE: NO SELLING - JUST COMPARE FUTABA 8FG TO A9 HITEC
So Mike, if one cannot notice finer resolution than 1024, why is it that Hitec is advertising their premium digital servos as having twice the resolution than the previous generation? Is this a "Marketing advantage only" thing? [8|]

RE: NO SELLING - JUST COMPARE FUTABA 8FG TO A9 HITEC
I am guessing that the 7ms latency might help synchronize dual elevator servos better, for instance. I remember my hitec optic 6 had that problem with dual elevator servos, one moving faster than the other. Another advantage of the 8FG is the 2048 resolution. Of course, you need the high resolution servos to benefit from that feature. Hitec high end servos have high resolution, like the 7955 TG, but the A9 with 1024 res does not take full advantage from those servos. Hmm.[X(]

Charging 8FG Help
The charger provided with the system does not work anymore, maybe the converter from 220 to 110v failed, I live here in argentina, don't know. The radio seems to be fine. I adapted the charging connector, so I am able to charge from my IMAX B5 charger, which has a delta peak detection, without unplugging the battery from the radio. I will charge the battery at 0.1A. Is this safe or is this something I should not do? Thanks in advance.
