RE: What does it cost to run a club?
Page 6 in the pdf file above list your expense to charter a club. $30 minimum, add $60 if your land owner needs a insurance certificate. Incorporation is not required. Of course how are you going to mow, what about field improvements...? No restriction on how many in a certain space, although I believe if your 3 miles or less to another club you need a frequency agreement (something that says your are not interfering with each other). Lots of good information here, what is your situation? You can do it cheap, my club has an annual dues of $10 a year. Found the Frequency Agreement: http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/923.pdf

Replacing the Air in a Jug
Anyone using something like nitrogen in their fuel to try and keep the bad air out? I've noticed once I get to the bottom of a jug my engines start to run finicky. I was thinking putting a gas layer on top of the fuel might help preserve it to the end. I don't get to fly as often as I use to and it can take me a few months, or maybe longer to get through a jug of fuel. I would like the bottom of a jug to burn as good as the top. Thanks.
ORIGINAL: hllywdb
Reed, .049 Sure-Start and I really like the combo. I have gear but the nose wheel is fixed. All flights start as hand launch.
The problem I have with the reedies on a larger plane is that you need to run a 5X3 to get any rpm/power. This is fine under perfect conditions, the 3'' pitch will fly it fast enough, the problem is the 5'' prop. If a cow farts on the other side of the field, all forward motion stops. I prefer a motor that will spin a 6X3 or 7X3 at the same rpm. It flys the same speed but has enough thrust to push through an 8mph wind. Just my 2 cents.
I had problems at first, started with a 6X3 and it didn't have enough oomph. Switched to a 6x4 and have been happy since [:D] .
ORIGINAL: aspeed I haven't seen the plane, but a guy used a Medallian .09 on one and said it was good, and the Cox .049 wouldn't get it going. It is a bit lighter than a Magnum because of the muffler. The fuse looks a bit weak on the back I would add a few extra stringers, or thicker ones at least. You can always throttle down witha bigger motor. Get a good idle. Most overpowered models have the wing fold up or can't land because of idling too fast. Most of my .10 stuff is 36'' to 45'' span.
I'm flying it with a .049 and it works great.

RE: Lock
I've done a little work recently. After doing so many in-and-outs of my trailer I've noticed the step into the trailer is a little high. So to add a bit of luxury, I installed a camper step (old man step) to help things out. There isn't really a good place to mount a step on a cargo trailer, just through the 3/4" ply floor, which would eventually pull the bolts through the floor. I used a 1/8" thick steel plate on the top of the floor and then used carriage bolts going through the plate, through the floor, to the step. So far so good, after two outings to the field everything is holding together nicely. Actually my biggest fear with all this was tearing the step off once I turn off the road to my field, but so far so good. It hangs about 3 1/2" below the frame when retracted [:D]. http://www.etrailer.com/Enclosed-Trailer-Parts/Stromberg-Carlson/SM-24-10.html
ORIGINAL: Wagon1 Ouch. I think I'll miss 1 lb 7 oz. Heck, I'm not even using ailerons. I can't help myself, epoxy, supports, reinforcements. Not sure how i got so heavy.... This is what I meant about the wings. The wing in the foreground is the first one I built per plans. It is very strong but it is heavy and doesn't have the ''bones'' of the Kadet. I built the one in the background over the Kadetito plans, but used the framework design of the Senior. It is definitely not as solid, but should be solid enough (I hope), and weighs 4 oz lighter. Also, the plans wing is so stiff, I doubt I'd be able to get the washout the plans calls for. I get what you mean about rubber bands for the wings. Everything I have ever built had rubber bands for the wings... Gentle Lady Sig Riser 1/2a Buzzard Bombshell 1/2a Delaire Sportster Kadet Senior Carol Goldburg Freedom 20 I guess I'll wait until I build a kit with bolts and learn from there.
What weight are you at now? With the .07 you should be fine. I like the light wing you built, it will look good with some transparent covering. [:D]

Off hand I don't remember, I'll have to weigh it and I'll let you know. I was a little concerned with mine while building, it felt a little heavy for an .049, but once I got everything dialed in...perfect! I have a lot of fun with it.

RE: Lock
ORIGINAL: Flyin Beagle I am just finishing my trailer up, but I am currently looking at it from an entirely differnet perspective. My trailer will hold all of my regularly flown planes with room to add a random ''special'' plane from the shop from time to time. I want to have a good assortment of misc hardware, glue, parts, tools, etcetera with me all of the time. I want to have that random small part or screw available so that I dont have to stop flying for the day because something broke. My trailer is my rolling hanger and will reside inside my somewhat conditioned garage when not in use. I will not be unloading it. The main reason I purchased the trailer was so that I did not have to load or unload aything for a day of flying as my workshop is in the basement and requires a trip through the kitchen, living room, staircase, mancave, and workshop to be accessed. Lots of hanger rash in that trip. After accumulating 5 years of junk in the trailer I may be changing my tune, but currently I plan to fill it up. Besides the extra weight makes it ride softer.[:D][:D][:D]
That's why I got a trailer, so I wouldn't have to worry about traveling lite.

RE: Lock
ORIGINAL: Flyin Beagle I am almost finished with my trailer fit out. I have been working on it most of the winter. I plan to make a few posts to detail the build in the coming weeks. I have one question I need your advice on. I built adjustable platform shelves that are 4' deep that are the full width of the trailer to give me a couple levels of plane storage. Initially I planned on using the PVC lattice with the small openings and using one wrap to anchor the wheels in place, but I decided that I wanted the shelves to be solid so I built them out of 2x2 framing and 3/8'' luan sheet. I am trying to figure out the best way to secure a plane to them that would also be very flexible in the placement of planes that are being hauled. I had an idea, but wasn't even sure if this product was even made. I thought If I covered the Luan with a sheet of Velcro I could strap a plane down using pieces of one wrap in any configuration I wanted. Lo and behold the ever wonderful McMaster-Carr sells Velcro in 57'' wide sheets by the foot. http://www.mcmaster.com/#hook-and-loop-fasteners/=gxkzgv My question is, Would you trust this to secure planes in your trailer? I think it will work very well. Opinions please. Thanks
I would think it would mostly depend on the weight of the planes your strapping down. Also you will have to make sure the angle which the velcro attaches to itself is at it's strongest. You don't want a bounce of the trailer to peel apart your velcro. It sounds like a good idea to me, I would try to do some tests with some smaller pieces of velcro first.
