RE: What's the verdict on these?
ORIGINAL: stoddy looked at these myself but from the picture it looks like the strut is going into the back of the hull . was going to put 2 of the centre mount rudders on a mono with a gearbox an a inline zen.
These rudders are designed for cats according to the vendor....

RE: What's the verdict on these?
The tie rods on the single rudder serve no purpose other than for looks. The rudder has a good pin in it so it is a very strong set-up without the tie rods. I can't comment on the dual rudder design although it looks like it actually bolts to the transom? Again I bought mine purely for the different look than every other single rudder design out there....

RE: What's the verdict on these?
I bought the single rudder from this vendor a while back for my new cat build. However mine was a bit different in that it has a skegged strut. This one doesn't have the skeg. Don't know if it will make a difference? The quality of Johnny's stuff is very good and he sends stuff out quickly. Have bought a lot of items from him with no problems at all. What kind of boat are you building? My deep-V has dual rudders and I like them as well but my cat is getting the single rudder. Really like the looks of that single rudder from him thats why I bought it....Cheers.

RE: Retrieval boats?
Used to use a zig-zag racer but it crapped out on me. Now use an Aquacraft Reef Racer. Much better boat as it is more watertight. Same basic boat just not as "toylike" in quality. Works well with the pushbar that is supplied with the zig-zag. Just get in behind the stalled boat and push her home. Cheers.....

But I have to ask why you don't like the pullstart? I don't know if this will work for a Sikk engine though? I have bought a lot of stuff from Johnny. He makes/sells a good product and is fast with shipping. Cheers.....

Wondering about the T-bar. Is this required as you have such a short span to collet? Or maybe a better question is what is it's purpose? Also is that 2 stuffing tubes? That is a good idea. Just need to know for my next build. Thanks....

RE: Water pump?
Some of us like to let the boat idle on the water for a bit. And not to mention the safety factor of no prop cutting something , or worse someone , when you go to "throw" your rig in the water! I can take my eyes off of the boat and sit back, move my chair, get a drink, light a cigar etc. and not have to worry about the boat getting hot or where it's going! And i can idle her back to shore at my own pace. To each his own but if running a clutch I would always say get a water pump. It doesn't rob you of any power ( unless your into heat racing and every little bit helps ) so why not? The original question was which waterpump to go with so we know DFB is installing one anyways so hopefully his question is answered........[;)]

RE: WHH TEAMPRO RUDDER issue
I have the same set-up and never had an issue with it. Just exactly where is it bending? I know my rudders will kick-up if they hit something but to bend a transom mount is weird, especially with Whobbies gear. Did you try e-mailing Tony @ Whobbies with the problem. He might know the answer......

RE: Water pump?
ORIGINAL: noahdear you DON'T need one !!! Water pumps are a waste of money.
A waterpump is a good idea if you are using a clutch! It is nice to be able to idle your boat and not have to worry about it. If my boat had no clutch I would probably run it without a water pump.

RE: Painting Boat
I agree. As a autobody tech (28 + years)I have done numerous Harley gas tanks and vehicles and we always clear-coat ( hardened ) to insure fuel (gas)proofing! Sure , acrylic lacquer seems to be able to handle gas but in time it deteriates to the exposure. Also if you use non catalyzed primer (unless it is the new waterborne stuff) underneath your lacquer the fuel will eat that as well. Then you have a real mess to fix.Miss hydro is 100% correct. Too much upkeep! For the extra cost of clear-coat it will insure years of trouble free appearance. I wouldn't do my boat without it. Just my 2 cents.......Up here in Canada we will be required to start using waterborne base coats and no more lacquers (high VOC's) at all. This comes into effect January 2010......

RE: Duplicating an existing hull...ETHICALLY!
Scott , in the auto and boating industries we use high strength methacrylate products. Lord Adhesives make great products and are very reasonable and it has insane shear strength properties. 3M also makes similar products as does Plexus and a few others. Most are available at autobody supply stores. Heres the link for Lord. Check out product #116. Cheers...
