RE: Hitec 2.4 conversion
Wow, I am glad I found this thread. I just today received the Hitec Spectra 2.4 AFHSS module and receiver, then realized my radio was a Prism 7. I thought I had messed up when I read the instructions, but apparently, I haven't. Thanks, Dale

RE: SOUTHERN DAWN PATROL 2009 - WW I SCALE FLY IN
Two weeks to go until Southern Dawn Patrol. Preliminary response looks like we are going to have a nice turnout with some great aircraft. For those who have never been to Hodges Hobbies and are planning to use GPS or MapQuest/Google Maps navigation, review the route for reasonableness. Last year some attendees were run through the backwoods of much of Georgia by the computed route. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contace me. dcavin@earthlink.net Dale

RE: Siemens Schuckert D.III 1/6th scale
Alan, it's great to hear you flying the Camel. I still haven't made what I call a successful flight with my VK N 17, but it's because I can't get the motor running right, so I pretty much set it aside. I plan to take it to Southern Dawn Patrol so I better get it running. Dale

We are going to print nice name tags, with a Steve Anderson print for the background, for those attending Southern Dawn Patrol. If you are planning to attend, send me your name, state you live in, and what you plan to bring to fly. In addition to printing a name tag, we are going to start a list of planned attendees on the website. Dale dcavin@earthlink.net

RE: SOUTHERN DAWN PATROL 2009 - WW I SCALE FLY IN
I was just asked a question about aircraft qualified for Southern Dawn Patrol. The basis for this event is to promote aircraft of the WW I era and aircraft leading up to the Great War. The general guideline is this: The model should be a scale (or reasonably scale) representation of aircraft originally designed, and examples flown prior to the end of 1918. This general rule includes aircraft later used in other capacities such as DH4's used as mail planes, Jennies used as barnstormers, Fokkers and SPADS painted in bright post war colors, Etc. Also, if the particular plane was built in 1919, but meets the design and first flown criteria, it qualifies also. An example is a DH 4 built in 1919 and used as a mail plane. Since the design was prior to 1919 and examples of the DH 4 was flown prior to 1919, it will qualify. The intent is not to get into a hair splitting bright line of what qualifies and what doesn't, but rather to keep to the spirit of the WW I era. Antics, Elders, etc, generally do not qualify. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Dale

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Hey, no fair I have no guns. On another note, I still don't have any photos of Rose's Camel on my computer (the one she won at ODP-2008). We have taken it out twice and she has gotten a fair bit of stick time on it. She is not ready for attempting takeoffs and landings with it, but will get there. It flys and sounds great with a Saito 90 twin. I'll try to remember to post a photo or two. See ya at Dayton. Dale

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
We will probably be at DPR Thursday evening thru Sunday. I think that is the limit of what we can "camp" there. We may get to the museum Thursday morning as we want to spend a day there looking around. We didn't even go thru at all in 2007 (other than going in to the banquet). As for SDP, that will be great, I am sure we can put you to work.[:D] Dale

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Rose took a video of the flight. I have not seen it. It will look kind of wierd since there was no cowl and no forward fuselage cover. We got in such a hurry to beat the storm up, that we didn't notice the forward deck wasn't on. We'll probably take it outside and get some stills this evening. Other than the twin Saito, it's all stock. We're looking forward to seeing you all again at SDP. We should have more info up on the website shortly. As for coming up the ODP, it was a nice trip and all 3 of us enjoyed it. Oh, I guess my Dad and I will see at least some of you at DPR in September as he and I are planning to venture back up there. RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that we made the maiden flight on the Hangar 9 Camel that Rose won up there last year. It took me quite a bit longer to finish it up than I anticipated since we mounted a Saito FS90T twin cylinder motor in it. Due to a thunderstorm coming in, we only got one short flight without the cowl, but that flight was a lot more successful than the maiden I tried up there. Hope to see you all in December at Mac Hodges place. Thanks for the hospitality and for hosting a great fly in. Dale & Rose

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Foodstick, it was my E.V/ D VIII that crashed. It was excessively overweight. I have another one that flys great. I flew it several times at ODP until one of the strut attachments broke and I put it in the trailer. Dale

RE: Electrifly SPAD XIII
Bob, yes, it is set up with the exact components recommended. The recommended motor has plenty of zip for a biplane. One note, the website says, (or said ) you need a 23" "Y". However, they are including servo extensions in the wings now and you really need a 6" "Y". I found several construction issues that I detailed in threads at theaerodrome.com and rcscalebuilders.com. None critical, but nice to watch for.

Electrifly SPAD XIII
I just completed and flew the maiden on the Electrifly SPAD XIII.[8D] It flys good, but is a SPAD. Meaning there is little in the way of roll stability. Not for the beginner. Here are a few photos and a link to a You Tube video. Not great, but you get the idea. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONAqHh1vff0]SPAD Maiden[/link] Dale
