RE: 1/16 Panzer 38t - new kit!!
I had the chance to touch and examine the Panda 38t kit a couple of weeks ago. The kit is a beautiful static kit, very nice details, multiple version decals, metal barrel (not drilled, though), a lot of PE parts. For the price it is a bargain. The tracks are a bit odd: single links but connecting pins are not pass-through type, i.e. just two very short plastic half-pins connect the ends of each track with the next. The tracks are not already drilled to allow insertion of a metal pin, altough that is possible, with a lot of patience and meditation about the world and life in general. The plastic of the tracks is another possible issue: for indoor use it should be strong enough, but for outdoor use I doubt it: the drilled ends will be too fragile, imho. The hull plastic is a bit soft and the assembled hull will probably require some metal stiffeniing. The room inside is scarce, as one might imagine. The standard HL gearboxes wont' fit. I have suggested my friend (the owner of the kit) to order some VStank 1/24 gearboxes which seem to be compact enough to fit. The turret need either a turret ring (you have to do it yourself) or better to be mounted directly on top of a modified servo. Gun recoil is possible only by a servo. Battery needs to be lipo-type for compactness. Electronics....you will beed a compact unit, even though an RX18 should fit. In conclusion: RC'ing it is possible and you don't not really need much to thinker about it, but there is a lot of work to do.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
Quite an unprofessional and disappointing behaveour, to omit this 'detail' until someone has found it (when all the first batch was already sold and shipped.) Now, by adding return shipping charges, the total cost of each board will rise quite a bit. I was considering ordering a board myself, but luckily I didn't manage to get one from the first batch. Now I think I will wait and see until a proper software version will be fully tested by somebody else. Doubts arise now about the problem of having a tank stopped dead in its tracks when it has received heavy damage. Darkith corrected it last year in its boards, I wonder why this new product didn't take advantage of that experience. Since "most of user are still using HL plastic gear box" (not in the RC tank club battling accordint to Tamiya standards, imho), will an heavier tank move in grass after taking hits?

RE: HL KV-1 Short or Long shafts?
Yup, asiatam first run of metal sprockets for the KV1, which also didn't fit the plastic tracks (only their metal ones). I still have them in my drawer...

RE: HL KV-1 Short or Long shafts?
I remember well when I bought my kv-1 metal sprockets that they came with different shafts (short) to replace the stock ones. But I think there are also 2 kinds of metal sprockets out there, which might differ from each other.

Short or long shafts on the KV-1 depend whether you mount plastic or metal sprockets. as far as I remmeber.

RE: CHURCHILL BRIDGELAYER
Sorry I don't have any dimension. The pins would be both hydraulically operated (for easier operation) and manual (in case of hydraulic failure etc.). I dont' think they were automatic, too much dangerous in case of mis-disapplication. Difficult to replicate on a model, though. Maybe mini-electromagnet as pins....

RE: CHURCHILL BRIDGELAYER
I think your deduction is correct: pull until the wheels touch the ground (better, until the triangular support structure touches the front hull), then stop, unlock the pins and then it's just a matter of controlled release, since the bridge weight will lower the arm itself. Since the bridge is hinged at its center of gravity, it will stay horizontal during deployment. A well studied cinematic. About the piston: the real piston is just the first segment from the cylinder. It pushes the central sliding link along the rail. The second segment is a fixed-lenght pushrod hinged at both ends (one in the central sliding link, the other is between the locking pins), not the piston itself. edit: an image to better explain the above text [image]http://i36.servimg.com/u/f36/15/16/85/12/bridge10.jpg[/image]

A single package might be acceptable for russian tanks... much less for german ones (a PZ IV and a Tiger sound very different), and unacceptable for US ones (a radial and a multibank engine are completely different). At least the same soundset variety offered by the S.L.U. should be available, imho

Here it is, fresh from PDF distiller. The picture inside might not be recent, though (I think the latest version do have the signal wires soldered on board), but the instructions are.

RE: More News 2.4ghz
Heng Long is not dropping anything, since that board is from TAIGEN, and it's not IR compatible with the existing line of Heng Long IR tanks. The IR beam is much shorter in duration, and narrower. More precision, but incompatible.

If just the tracks fit the pins, I'd suggest to store a couple of full sets for when the churchill will be available: somebody will buy it for a static display model, and a set or cheaper not fully workable tracks might be of interest for them...

I wonder if Clark did use a repair mode compatible with the IBU and the Mako, since a different IR pattern would act against the diffusion of such a cool feature. I want to recall that the IBU IR repair code is available for free to everybody requesting it.

RE: More News 2.4ghz
ORIGINAL: YHR Any of the devices which interface with the RX18 through the 3 wire control cable will not work with this new HL set up. As far as I know that is all of them . The DBC line, The IBU, MAKO, Beier.
The IBU doesn't rely upon the 3-wire cable for any connection, thus it should work. The MAKO should also work for the same reason. Please, edit your messages above with a note, thx

RE: More News 2.4ghz
Yup, no more receiver board, it's all integrated. But unfortunately that means also not compatible with the DBC boards to provide Tamiya IR compatibility. Not a good commercial choice, imo, since a lot of ppl whould have appreciated to upgrade their rx18 boards, keeping the DBC system in.
