RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
Hello Cyber, Here the answer to you questions 1. The pump, pumps 10 OZ of water per min and has small leakage so I think won't put that much pressures. (by leakage, I don't mean leaking water but rather low flow sloppy pump) 2. Here are some pictures. Each CAM was made separately and silver solider in placed with the right degree apart. 3. Yes I used counter weights on the crankshaft but don't have pictures 4.It is pinned and tig welded (thanks to my friend) 5.Made my own ring. The ring is made of cast iron. The piston is made of 2011 aluminum good source for piston ring http://www.5bears.com/pistons.htm 6.for crankshaft I'm just using 2 ball bearings at the end to support it.

RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
the clear plastic assembly is the distributor cap with the rotor inside connected to the camshaft. I could have used waste spark ignition system, but what the hell, decided to go with distributor. On the other side, the one with the small pulley is the water pump. Borna

RE: Piston ring question
Thanks for the answer. Obviously sing ring has less friction but that doesn’t tell the main purpose these engine use single ring is friction . Also if there is enough blow-by exist to lubricate the lower part of cylinder engine, then don’t you think the engine will suffer a great deal of compression. Borna

Piston ring question
Hello all I have seen most engines use 3 rings on the piston while most of the model 4 cycle engines such as Saito and OS use only one piston ring. What is the main purpose of using a single ring on these engines? Also what is advantage and disadvantage of multiple ring vs single ring Thanks Borna

Here are some more pictures of Roshi-2 inline. This engine is my own design, once completed, it is going to be 2 cylinder 4 cycle inline water cooled 1" bore 1" stroke. Next in the list is Crankshaft and Camshaft

RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
All 4 valves completed. The cylinder sleves are done too. Over the weekend I'm planing to make the 2 pistons and if I get the chance, the rings. I'll post more pictuers by the end of the week. Bora

RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
Today I made 4 valve guide, spring retainer and only got chance to make one valve. The valve hasn't been lapped to the seat yet, but it seals very nicely already. I tested the seal by filling the valve guide with acetone and place the valve in with no leak. Borna

Hi Pe, Thanks for clarification. Well yes I got a long way to go for sure but I'm not that bad at machining Once I know what I need to do. RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
I also need to make the valve I want the valve face to be 45 degree. Question is do I need to set the cross slid to 22.5 degree or set it at 45 degree? Also can I use a boring bar to cut the face? Can someone give me the procedure of how to do it? here is a simple drawing of how I want to set it up in the lathe Thanks Borna

RE: Crankshaft counterweight question
For example lets consider the following drawing. Lets assume this is the connecting rod. You can see both crank side hole and piston side hole is .28 diameter. The shape is fairly symmetric. Can I simply assume both crank side and piston side are equal? Thanks Borna

Crankshaft counterweight question
Hi Guys, I'm in process of designing and building a 2 cylinder in line 4 cycle engine. The bore and stroke is going to be 1. I want to know when building the crankshaft, how much counterweight I need to add. Basically what is the formula to determine the counterweight? Thanks Borna

RE: Convert GMS 120 glow to Gas
Humm that could have been the cause. Also what do you mean by "maybe you got the piston in backwards"? Anyway I'm going to order the ring from Tower Hobbies, but want to make sure when I put it in, I put it in correctly this time, if this is because I didn't install the ring correctly the first time. Thanks again

RE: cleaning the exhust valve
I have the head out and there are some carbon build up on the valve sit and valve face therefore causing small air leak. So is there any solution that I can soak it in to desolve those gunk? As suggested maybe fuel injector cleaner? Thanks Borna

cleaning the exhust valve
what's the best way to clean the exhust valve on a 4 cycle engine without taking the valve out? This is for an old OS FS 60 4 cycle engine, which I think the valve is leaking due to high carbon deposit. Thanks Borna
