RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Had the boat finally out of the water today. Got some 60% nitro for it to drink :) i got 32.1 km/h out of it before it was stalling on the water. couldn't throttle up at all Once back on the bank I played with tthe hs settings a few time but couldn't get the boat to rev up on the water so to speak. On the bank it was perfect. I tried an odonnel blue & purple plug & both where doing the same sort of thing. Then the flex cable let go :( oh well i have a spare at home so a 10 minute fix & now its ready again does anyone know about tuning the go engines with high nitro?

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Time for an update, I GPS's the boat on a local lake at 33.4km/h it was running richon 20% due to the motor not being broken in yet After doing a total hull make over the boat is looking a little different & lighter than before It's just been put back together & radio checked to make sure everything is working & setup. Motor wise no changes where done. I made a new exhaust mount for the pipe that fits under it & out the way of the cowl. Cut the nose of the capsual & the conard wing off, front & rear tipplets also got the toss, glasses up where the rear tipplets where & made my own nose & conard wings to suit the boat i was trying to copy. Sharpened the angle around the sponson to the deck, then cut the rear wing & stablizers off resized them & moved them out & back on the hull. I created my own cowling for the boat the fits any 1:12 proboat hull which ended up being 30 grams lighter then the original version the flex shaft has been replaced but still using the proboat stut setup I converted the control system over to 2.4g & dumped the old proboat am style radio also adding a new rechargable battery to the control box. The fuel & water lines have been replaced & new fuel filter installed & a proboat s/s prop was shapened & balanced total job was to make the boat a little better, once it's on the water we shall see

RE: Prop Strut
The white boat setup is the one I cut the back out of the boat & replaced it & the flex shaft, look up building gp1 in the forum. Thepicture of the yellow boat is a vegas (not sure of spelling) setup from the net but I made my own setup on the red & yellow boat with blue flame work, look up .21 in t hull Proboat. Miss hydro has done the same to her boats in regards for strut setup. The best setup I have was to cut the boat & do it properly, lolks like it was ment to be like that from factory but the home made con-versions still work fine :)

RE: Prop Strut
The stock strut is good, but having an adjustable strut is so much better! I've attached a few pictures of different ways some people have out them on the 1:21 hydro. I have the same boat with .15 & .18 engines & found a y535 brass or the proboat s/s prop best so far, the aluminium props I've tried I wasn't happy with. hope it helps a little, with the white boat's set up I cut open the deck & fitted an aluminium backing to strength the transon because proboat use a ply wood & found it to be weak with a bigger motor

RE: Building GP1
Thanks for that I've finally gotten around to installing the VZ-M motor :) took about an hour to setup in the boat due to a few small problems but nothing major. Once installed in the boat i took it down to the pond for a test run. The motor has never been started or run & is brand new. It took about 30 minute or so of trying to start before it finally kicked over & the new motor was alive. I've uploaded a video for you to watch, I ran out of fuel. It wasfull tank but with all the time trying to start it & then finding out the control system was backwards on the steering was a pain!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38jKMxwDP_A Got a few question. Should the motor be really tight trying to turn it over so much that the belt cannot turn the engine? Is there something I can do on the belt to give it more grip. It's my first belt start engine & I really dont like them much, pull start or tiger drive I've found much better.

Try to set up a reverse style air scoop. Sounds weird but it will let the air in & keep the water out if its in the right position. I've done it to a few of my boats & it's worked great :)

Got some paint on the boat today :) Even got the window painted :) It copped a few coats of white then baked it then put the black on for the window, all in 2k I've sat the motor just to see what it looks like but so far pretty happy with it. Going to start to put everything back together tomorrow or next few days before getting the stickers done

RE: Building GP1
Took some more pictures of how things are going, the new motor has been built, had to cut down the control box to suit the new location within the boat & have glassed it all back together :) ahh nearly there next comes the cowl :) I'll show you what the boat is going to loook like in the next update. The motor rebuild took about an hour with all new parts so i have 2 OS max .21 rg engine. Ive done this so that these 2 boats have the same motor to see what the go like, hope fully they will be close on weight & speed, but i also have the .21 os V motor as a back up :) hmm 40,000 rpm will be fun :)

RE: Building GP1
Done some more work to the boat New engine mounts & new rear rudder & strut setup have been done. Hve made 2 sets of engine mounts for both engines so i can just change the engines on the bank & go racing again :) The strut & rudder setup is all new hardware and aluminium in the transom instead of the ply wood for extra strength! & get rid of that proboat setup I've gone with a 3/16 drive setup because my other boat has it & finding props is really easy

Building GP1
Hi there guy's started to build a new hydro in the off season. I started out with a 1:12 formula proboat & made a few changes to accept a .21 os max & .21 os vzm Had to cut the deck open to allow for the bigger engine & collet, replaced the drive shaft with a 3:16 an added an adjustable strut & new rudder setup Its a slow progress with it slowly coming together it's going to look as close to the real hydro as I can get it. This is my second boat that I've made from these & dont have many problems with them :) As you can see in the pictures the control box has a few places that the water will get in, just ender the cowl nuts that need to be filled on every boat! I'll update you when more work is done

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Finally got sometime to go down to the pond today, the motor ran perfectly :) Put down 2 tanks of fuel without missing a beat. It's much faster than the .15 dynojunk, the boat was even jumping around on the straight and getting a little loose! I haven't even leaned it out yet. This is how all proboats should have come from factory, thats my thoughts!

You might not like it but I got a .18 go engine in the boat now. Just test fired it tonight so hopefully in the next little bit of time I can spend sometime at the pond. Its a brand new engine but found it on flea bay for cheap so I want that worried, just need to setup break it in & see some speed difference. Yeah I'll be looking around for an upgrade to the flex cable :) think its a wise idea!

Brushless Elam
Hey there guy's I've just got a brushless 1:12 Elam & was wondering whats a better esc or motor? Its all stock at the moment running 2s 5300 batteries & a brass 40mm prop. It goes okay, about 40mph but was looking to push it a little more. Is a new 120 plus esc going to make the boat faster? If so which is the best one to buy? Cheers

RE: .21 in T-Hull proboat LLumar
Hey everyone, I have the boat back on the water after being fixed and it runs great :) I took it up to a local lake and run it a few times on 20%, then dropped in a jetski to follow it to get a closer look at it while it was running, not to bad. It was running at 3/4 throttle over a few bigger waves for the boat so i couldn't push it but it was sitting well at 45mph . It was a little hard to judge the speed we where going at, until it was on a little smoother water but i was happy with it. Was thinking about the engine, its an o.s max with 1.7hp, wondering about changing it to a go .21 with 2.6 hp or the newer o.s .21xz-m version of what i have... I'm thinking the extra h.p would be a good thing for speed because now im also thinking about building another .21 hydro up like another boat that race's in Australia but would like to have both boats with the same engines if you know what i mean? this was the go engine http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GO-21R-7P-Marine-Nitro-Engine-OS-Shaft-7P-2-MR217P-P620OS-RC-WillPower-/180769750365?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item2a16b77d5d the newer os engine http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-O-S-21XZ-M-3-5cc-Inboard-Marine-Engine-13951-NIB-/290570655979?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43a75c58eb also found this cheapy http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/STS-2109-D21E-21-SG-shaft-rear-exhaust-MARINE-Engine-/200618061262?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item2eb5c4adce If im building another hydro gits going to look like this

sweet as, i looked up power out put's. The os is a little down @ 1.3 hp on the go engine which is 1.8hp, but which is a better option in your eyes? I think the go engine would be a little quicker but having both in these set up & running in both boats which one is quicker? have you done any engine mods?

Just wondering about an engine upgrade from the .15 dynacrap does anyone have any good small engine's to recommend? I was looking at an .18 os marine or the standard .18 from proboat, I know there are more like the go .18 but i think i need to make a header for that one & find the fly wheel for them.... hmm any ideas or performance upgrades would be nice

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Well after such a long time off the water, I took Elam, LLumar and Formula boats to the pond. Elam was running good, LLumar was put in for a maiden voyage or break in... Its faster than Elam in standard form. Both are the .15 dynajunk, same prop same fuel, same type of glow plug etc. In a straight line LLumar kicked Elam's butt... Formula boats is faster again than the other 2, by a fair deal. I put on the proboat metal prop on all 3 and ran them again, even better than before :) all 3 boats running the same prop all on 20% and even quicker than stock plastic prop & i think the y535 prop... well for this day i guess. On Elam i run a key chain camera to see what it was like & uploaded it to youtube. The camera got wet once or twice and the footage dropped out for a few seconds, on the second outting it was running with LLumar but the camera was set a little high but you get the idea. Think it might be time to do some tuning on Elam , bump the nitro or do some engine modd's like drop in the .18 to bring it up on speed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMMO-N242zs

RE: .21 in T-Hull proboat LLumar
Just come back after being at the Rc boats with mine. I have shown the guys that race & they have said I could run the setup I have or get the proboat strut from a 1/8 setup machined to suit my boat. It can run in 2 - 3 types of race class's since mine would be the only boat in the club being a sport 21 so it would run against 21 mono, 21 outboard and also 21 rigger in 2 types of race's. The guys where pretty nice and wanted to put it on the water after I join up and become a member. Just need to replace the remote control that I use with a new digital unit get that new rudder system working. The course setup is great with wide turns so I think the setup I'm running at the moment shall remain in place, a few things to look into would be the amount of fuel that is carried on the boat and setting it up for rougher water. All good so far, now it's time to start the fix-up's and get it on the water again :)
