RE: Who wants to build Lockheed Orion 9
Thanks AeroMuseumServices I was up all night looking for the article which is in number 87 of "Take Off" by aerospace publishing ltd, publish date 1990. It was Northwest Airways inc. U.S. Airmail-Express Passenger Service that bought three Orions in 1934,the text reads as such ( their all-wooden construction was bareley suitable for the hard weather encountered on the northern routes, and the pilots complained that the manually operated undercarriage was "perfect for building right arm biceps." I am glad you replied, as it was many years ago i read the article and the mind does fog over, so I do stand corrected and also delighted to read the article again. bbc

RE: Who wants to build Lockheed Orion 9
G'day oldflyer123, I read a great story on the orion, if i recall correctly ( Canada Mail owned ) and that the retracts were manually cranked so you needed a fair amount strength. you'll need a big chunk of lead in the nose of that model with it being so short. cheers and hope to see her flying. bbc

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
Sig Wonder 049-15 size, kadet jr 10-15 size, I think it is called the seniorita now, Just bought and started Sig 1/6th cub and when the bank account grows again other Sig kit King Kobra. We need these guys to stay in business as there aren't many balsa kits left on the shelf anymore so the building and repair skills will go with kit manufacturers Im in oz and we are seeing bigger bigger in size and more prefab but my local hobby store has about 10 sig kits sitting there so i hope i can get through most before they become collectors items.

RE: Taylorcraft crash
Sorry to hear about your models demise Comanche260, I havn't read the entire lot of postings but with such a large wingspan and engine, going over all the critical parts like pilots or engineers of full size do before flight, may have saved her, but in saying that i have bought arfs with problems needing sorting before flight, and a bindnfly with a reciever problem that was sorted by the dealer, but the unwary or keen to get in the air would have lost those models, maybe not first flight but they would have gone down with nofault of the flyer. maintenance is key as with any machine. hope you get flying again, cheers. bbc

RE: If there was no ARF's, would you still be in the hobby?
I enjoy arf but I do wish there were more plank'n'plan lazer cut kits here in Aussie land. Researching the history of the type of plane you are building and discovering colour schemes and maybe the history of their pilots, inventers or squadrens adds to the enjoyment while teaching skills that enable good repairs (not that i crash, it was the reciever blackout or somethin) to your fleet[:D]

RE: Sopwith Pancake - Asphalt Roller
I have to agree, what a shame, that model could have been used by somebody that had the time to excitedly repair, but not the finances for a new model. shame shame shame.

RE: How did YOU get your start in the hobby?
cox control line as a 10 year old, then walking home from school at 13 found a two metre, undamaged glider wing and a mangled fuselage on a pile of rubbish for council cleanup, off home i went and traced said fuselage to newspaper built a new one and installed an accomms 2 channel car radio system and that was my first radio controlled model plane.
