adapter board between eflite 4 pin 3s and hyperion lba-10
Hi! Can you help from the pictures below. This is my hyperion balancer and eflite 3s with different connectors I don't want to balance charge, I like to plug in the lb10 every once in a while to balance the pack as needed. I've seen all the adapter boards for hyperion, some with cables some without etc Some of the sites show an adapter but don't sell it. Will someone provide me a link to the right adapter board with cables so that this eflite battery can be balanced by my old hyperion gear, no need to buy new one if I can just find the right adapter board with cables to plug into my lba 10! I need the link from the site where I can order it all in one fell swoop

powering a few led strips off select scan 700 channel
I don't want to burn out my channel! I have a receiver controlled switch, so the power for a few gorilla Bobs led strips will come directly through my receivers rudder channel into the switch My v max for the switch isn't my concern, its the max v through the receiver through the switch I don't remember the specs on a few led strips...can you make a good guess if 2 or 3 small strips running through receiver channel will fry receiver?

RE: help me convert s400 into liFe
Thank you that's perfect. One last option, how about using a 3s lipo 2100 I have laying around, and just never charge it past 11.4 Even at that partial charge it matches the top voltage of the nicd with amazing duration, I think that is safe for the jrs400? Many say a full 3s lipo won't hurt, but with an 11.4 cap it should be totally safe?

help me convert s400 into liFe
I read about a hyperion liFe battery that will be a direct stock replacement for my battery below, the ni cad The benefit was you didn't need a special charger, the battery pack had an ic to use the tx charger for ni cad Can someone link me to where you purchase the right battery for this swap? And, how has it worked out once you left nicd? I have the 700 mah ni CD for the 72mhz s400, want longer charge hold times and to be able to have much lower self discharge

plus its got onboard communication output ie two 2.4 ghz hunter's walkie talkies one is taken apart and mounted in the vehicle. the body resonates the sound quite well, I figure live vocal feedback with video detection is a good negotiation...at least they would know its live monitored if I was speaking to them as they carried it. Figured I have about 3 mins of powernegotiations, otherwise vehicle gone and im out another. one of these is already lost on top of a mountain in Ruidoso NM these days I run an audible alert alarm as well...1min servo inactivity sets off quite a nice locator beacon. gps guidance is also cheap, onscreen display via gps, its about 200 bucks but the audible alarm is enough I always know the general area.

its always range with fpv and ham radio~ my goals are to be able to get out a mile from my house non line of sight with vehicle control and then beyond. at the current rate of dxing it should happen this yr sometime the next wave is extremely directional 900 mhz dish antennas and motorized trackers that move the tripod sweeps where the signal goes as the car moves...they do this on planes already but I don't know of anyone doing it with ground based work in the hobby forums

Long range urban FPV Emaxx
Just posting some update vids with new distances obtained by antenna tweaking. triple redundant runaway controls are in place and this is very early on a Sunday morning its the only time I'll test long range runs to avoid theft of my rig... nobody is out in my area at this time especially on the first snow of the year they are all asleep. I doubled the receiver antenna on my jr select scan to increase range. It is a multiple of the original factory tuning, it presents itself a higher reception point which is preferable at max distance and it can be housed in a simple flexible plastic whip made of servo guide tubes and elec tape. it can roll and self-right without creasing, that took a long time to get right. It took my vehicle control range to 1/4 mile non line of sight and I have no idea what the new max is. for 1.5 yrs I just ran the factory antenna straight up on a jr select scan unit, wish someone would have told me a long time ago to double it. it increased the control range phenomenally. This machine is sent up jeep trails in the mountains but the best rf interference testing is in the city where signals randomly shift in both intensity and frequency. emaxx mamba on rock loks 4.0 beadlocks 8 inch tires full 900mhz fpv, pan, 5db monopole antenna, 3200 mah 3s video power receiver station is 8db flat patch, oracle diversity, inline signal boosters for each mast and a 14db yagi for max video range. onboard emaxx is 12800 mah of 3s power, the venom 6400's. those batteries are great, at medium speeds like this I can drive from 7 am to noon. the television in the video is in the house, plasma tv's are not meant to be FPV stations they don't refresh fast enough. The slightest video interference will lock them out blank, so even though its jumpy at times remember this is video 3 inches off the ground and five blocks away, on a true FPV monitor like fatshark video goggles it would appear as a couple white streaks of static yet the picture would hold firm. Even so this is sick range for urban alley runs B [image]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7016/6468410845_1ab35a3b7e_b.jpg[/image]

want to buy ready to fly used wing asap
I have some offers online to buy a couple different used wing setups and I wanted to ask if anyone here has an offer. I want a used wing that has years of time left on it with a brushless motor, esc and servos installed and recently ran. I do not like to build, just pay$$ and fly asap. I have my own radio the offer I might take soon is incredibly used but still flies and Im about to pay 200, the cost of a new setup. but the new setups require assembly and I don't want to mess with it, nor ironing out the cg etc if I get lucky someone out there will have a better deal. hope its ok to post this in here I chose the foam section to get into the group who may want to change out their fleet...not many selections for sale flying wings so thought I could try here. want a large wing, 48 inches at least

RE: 60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
this video shows the rig being sent up a forest trail run a good quarter mile or better. there was one low spot just before going up a big washed out rut but after that as the elevation climed the video signal (for navigation) held as strong at the top of the trail as it was at the cabin. the flatscreen tv inside the cabin was the driving screen. all the reception was set up indoors as well, the car was able to navigate the mountain trail with no external gear outside the cabin and all vehicle control from inside the cabin. Control of the vehicle will vastly exceed that of the video; I estimate the vehicle could go half a mile non line of sight in some settings on mountain trails

Yes thats a good call. didn't see that other thread you know a brushless revo with camo body and a modified non line of sight capability would be smashing good for them. there is already ground based versions 10x more effective than the one they are using there is great potential in this. They need to switch to 900 mhz and 72 on the controller for the simplest upgrade with the most bang.

RE: 60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
there is an item called an on screen display for the FPV models and it does many great things. It prints the model data around the perimeter of your driving television...like the military does when they are showing you video of a fighter jet target video. The numbers around the edges and the grids in the visual field that move around are all changeable and give you different data points. there is a return to home arrow, a battery life and maybe engine temp. In the bottom of the driving screen, a little arrow will turn on a 360 degree axis and will always point to the home base no matter the orientation of the main rig. Having an arrow pointing home at all times would have saved it cheaper, you can get a simple keychain gps return to home locator for about 80 bucks I can look for the link. the lcd readout (like a watch face) is mounted on your hood, so you can see it with the FPV camera. It will have the rotating arrow...a neat setup for only 80 bucks. Another options is to line all night-bound FPV trucks with chirp locators, those can be found online too.

thanks for the boost of confidence that's a true benefit of ni cad batteries, still usable! I still go to ruidoso nm and FPV the same mountain (when the forest is open after wildfire risks) only this time the current rig has tracking assistance should that ever happen again. it would be pretty sick to be poking around up there only with better gear now, and see some dirt covered heap of my old rig poking up from a pile of rocks or something lol pics immediately on this thread if that happens heh it was all pretty waterproofed, Id imagine its all still workable except for the lipo batts.

RE: 60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
All the initial testing is from an rc rock crawler. All the video gear, the vehicle receiver gear, was tested on a losi crawler which has no forward speed whatsoever. This allowed me to test the range of the vehicle to the max and beyond, hundreds of times, and know what kind of commands the vehicle will be given in worst case scenarios. It was tested with full transmitter shut off, max range being broken, using other transmitters in the same freq when the vehicle was at range and receptive to interference etc all outcomes are deadstick neutral. there is no runaway of the vehicle unless someone is on the exact same channel at the exact same time in a band nobody uses in my whole city, plus they have to be close enough to overcome my .750 mw transmitter power, those variables are sufficiently tested for me. the common worst case scenario that happens is wrecks/rolls at range you just have to get to the rig before the passers by do

A thousand dollar rig. been up there for a year now, imagine how long we looked the next day. worst thing that would have happened would be video battery (lipo) and the vehicle lipos would be ruined from full discharge but somehow the thing rolled down an embankment or something and lost video signal on top of a huge mountain, after about 3 hours of looking I just gave up and ordered another emaxx off easy pay from towerhobbies, then all new video gear and brushless sheesh and lipos, again Thanks for stopping by! I had tons of help, if you want to see the maddest FPV thread on the web google this "fpv car and other fun projects thread" and one from rcgroups w come up. Just a small thread with 150 pages and 200000 views l Just made this video, its funny to see the look on the guys face who is watering his lawn. Don't mind me Mr. Just a free roaming rc car driving down your block and behind your house then Im gone and we can pretend that didn't just happen. You can file what you just saw under things not commonly seen while gardening. being able to circle the block that is south of my block running perpendicular is a milestone because these are directional vid receiver antennas that don't get moved during the run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSenvCPf2qs

tires from stormer hobbies, when they carry them rims from towerhobbies, the narrow beadlocks rocksters the tires from from a store called rc4wd.com but they take weeks to fill an order, when stormer has them, they are ready to go! try them, you'll love them. the only downside is the car will wheelie more because of higher center of gravity. but with the looks, and no high centering on curbs, its worth it!

oh yes many times. one of these is lost on top of a hill in the new mexico mountains, the video signal cut out and I had no location equipement on it. it was at night, and we spent all next morning looking for it. that was about a grand down the chute. now I have location equipment, a pair of walkie talkies. One can be strapped to the car with a zip tie and the ringer function used to locate the truck. In the neighborhoods I drive carefully so it won't wreck.

it does have the mamba bl aftermarket install. this was originally an emaxx 6905 one thing about that brushless, its strong even in high gearing. on the same gearing I use for high speed i can also tow a child on a razor scooter all around the park...guess its the best electric motor Ive ever owned. We have this jogging park where huge sidewalks meander for about 2 miles and its the best place to do assisted scooting. add helmet+pads+towrope+agile 10 year old on a razor scooter and you have one heck of a fun morning of FPV towing at the jogging range. 10 mph is plenty fast and has enough battery reserve for hours of pulling, these batteries on the bl are the venom 6400 mah's x2

60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
Have done some updates to this ride to increase the distance it can be driven away from the home base via fpv video. the goal was to have max top speed on demand but extreme range in fpv mode with failsafes built in to ensure safety when pushing the car to its range limits. in fpv mode it is driven slow and carefully to preserve control. the current limit is 2+ blocks non line of sight travel in a circle aound my house. In adding a 5db antenna to the video transmitter it increased to another block, what I do is run the alleys around my neighborhood pretty early in the mornings when people are not out. There is an empty lot a couple blocks away I can get to in the alleys, many times I'll make a run there to test the range of this distance drone. When it rolls, I just in my car and go get it, for a couple minutes I guess someone could steal it but they haven't yet. There is a walkie talkie onboard so I can 'negotiate' lol if anyone ever does try and drive off with it. I keep the other walkie in my pocket. This mode is also useful because when you are doing long range FPV out on jeep trails and such, the car can become lost/disoriented very quickly. Having a walkie on hand to activate the beep alarm is a useful tool for locating a car lost in a ravine in the new mexico mountains. using rok loks 4.0 crawler wheels was the best upgrade ever made for an emaxx. They can be ran at full speed without ballooning, yet they are soft for traction in the trails. on rokster narrow beadlock rims the non line of sight ground control for the vehicle is now 75mhz .750mw jr custom bought online. using a collapsible antenna tube to hold the antenna 3ft straight up, it can travel farther than the video can reach through houses and interference with near perfect control. Full interference causes the vehicle to go neutral. Loss of controller power causes the car to go to neutral, there are multiple failsafes. an ofna inline on the esc is one and the mamba max esc has one. its main design is the ability to transmit and hold signal through blocks of houses without interference, a remote drone Ive nearly got up to 4 blocks away from the home base in recent tests. this is the street test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAf-2DxTMy0 here are a couple of the fpv tests with a new one showing the extra range coming soon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfmVWeu4w2M

RE: 60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
here was the current base station, the upgrades were -dual inline signal amps for both receivers, had to splice them into the current 12 volt system 10 amp hour 12v battery upgraded from 7 on previous ground station -yagi antenna/patch antenna on diversity -50 more feet of cabling added to the antennas, so they can be up to 100 feet away from the television/viewing panel. This means you can have the base station set up out front yard, run the cable back in the house to plug into the tv, and it will receive better and let the vehicle go farther. There are so many configurations that the experimentation can go on indefinately. My goal that I will reach will be one full mile in a 360degree radius around my house, the next upgrades will be dual iphones on video link and a dragonlink ground control system that can reach a mile or better on the ground.

RE: 60 mph for a mile FPV emaxx
Im driving it off a 50" plasma in the living room lol! Its pretty sick, like being in a rally car going down the alley at scale 100mph the camera is on a servo for pan control...ie crossing the street. it can look both ways and is HD so spotting cars or people or objects is not hard, its laser clear. Obviously one has to be very careful running a car like this but I want to reinforce the baby steps taken before taking the model out this far away in potentially high interference neighborhoods. I didn't just hook it up and send it out to see what would happen. The first testing, for about 8 mos, was on a losi 1/18th rock crawler. Absolutely harmless even if all controls fail and the throttle opens up. By range testing with that little guy, I was able to verify the radio actions at long distance in both high interference and total loss of signal zones. By testing for months and months all the various radio interferences that come and go were covered at both distances. It was apparent by switching off the radio and by driving the model to max range where it stopped/went neutral that all signal loss possibilities were covered, the only option for loss of control w throttle (the dreaded fail) is someone on the same channel at the same time which at this frequency I am certain will not occur in my neighborhood. So when the gear was moved up to the emaxx it had to follow the same rules as the tiny rock crawler...it has taken two years to reach these distances, even if someone bought the same gear it would take months of tuning to make it work in a given area, tuning the receiver and antenna height/configuration for video system, its really quite unbelievable how hard it is to get a ground based fpv model to go this far. The video system takes all the work, getting the vehicle under control is as simple as switching out the stock radio system to the upgraded or customized one. Using 72mhz airplane control is easy to do for this kind of range even though that's not meant for ground vehicle use. A low quality 72 mhz fm system will have longer range than the top 2.4 ghz systems simply due to travel of the lower frequency around and through objects (houses) 75mhz is a nice compromise and its legal for ground use, many guys online and in the forums have them for same in the right forums, I got mine that way. comparatively, if a stock 2.4 ghz traxxas radio system was controlling the car it would have been out of range just into the first dirt alley after I went through the gate opening at the top of the block. a ~72mhz radio goes 100 times farther on the ground. Part of the tuning it takes to make a drone have distance on the ground is: -jittering of vehicle servos caused by video system -having a video system battery that will last all day -routing cabling and power wires for vehicle/video system to not interfere with each other -antenna heights and configs (rubber duck/ vee antennas, clovers/ yagi's/patch antennas/signal filters/shock shielding for wrecks/rolls -setting failsafes to control vehicle upon signal loss -ground receiver station that has tons of wiring and splices to manage and rework as needed with new equipment -changing the antenna design on all points of the design does different things on the ground, this takes the longest. There are 5 points of radio communication for the drone: transmitter to car is two points of contact, and video transmitter on the car (rear black antenna) to the two receiver station video antennas thats three more points. Each point of contact is altered by using tall/short antenna configs, patch antennas and yagis + the several onboard video antennas the vehicle can use, all shaped very very differently. This is a VERY expensive side of the hobby, finding an antenna config that works best for you. No one over the internet can look at your surroundings online and tell you what will make a car go the farthest, alterations in terrain and signal makeup are vastly different between locations and experimentation and tuning is the only way to do it so theres a lot of cost in buying antennas you really didn't need. Crash engineering is extremely tough; alot of this gear has to protrude from the vehicle so stopping rolls from smashing all the delicate video gear is really hard. In time I ended up taking apart the video antennas and putting them back together with shrink tubing so they will bend/flex when the vehicle lands on its can. I wound up having to spend about $600 for the video receiver base station alone... this is an old pic of the base station and car, no longer is there a fishing pole sticking up off the back heh this picture was 2 antenna configurations ago
