RE: GP Christen Eagle .46
is it pretty easy to keep up with when you are flying since the design is the same for bottom and top?

Hobbyking experience a positive
Just thought I'd let people know I had a pleasant experience with HK's staff. I had a problem with my order and got on the online chat and it was corrected before we were done with the chat. I was very impressed especially after reading of others that had issues with them. Figured I would give them credit for doing a good job. We see this in society today when all we get is what someone did wrong and not any info on what they did right. Therefore i felt that they deserved a positive post! I am not negating that others havn't had bad experiences just posting my positive experience.

like in the full scale rudder rudder rudder :) and that would be right rudder unless its a model 12 then it would be right due to the rotation of the propellor :D

RE: GP Christen Eagle .46
I'm not sure yet I may go with the two design since thats more of a scale type look with the pushrod between the ailerons. I've thought about getting a full scale eagle when I'm able to get my medical back to get back into aerobatics if my brother doesn't want to get an extra together. Thats one reason I wanted the model since I would like to own a full scale eagle for a little while atleast, I've always loved these aircraft.

cool what size prop are you running? I have one nib to put together when I finish my stearman I'm putting together, I'm also going with the pitts style muffler as well. I am going with a 46 ax with mine though, I have a hot rod extra I like to fly and want this model to fly kinda scale like. She looks good though

RE: GP Super Stearman
Yeah I like to be able to pull them off to help clean them and when I recover the planes. I usually end up recovering my planes when the monokote gets rough looking. I like to have nice looking models I guess plus I tend to want to recover my arfs pretty quick so mine are different than everybody elses at the field too :) I have only done one removable surface so far and like it and plan to do it on more of my models when I build them.

RE: GP Super Stearman
haha thanks Jim I may try these hinge pocket things out so I can remove the tail surfaces for mx and etc. I made a modification to my kit built 60 size extra where I ran a piece of music wire through the hinges that I could remove the aileron by just pulling the wire out. I havent modified the other aileron to mirror that one until i get a few more flights on it to see how I like it. I like the idea of being able to remove the surfaces easily though.

I can't see the pictures on the post, but what size of hinge points do you use? I've only had a couple of ca hinges fail, but I mostly fly smaller planes too like 40 size.

I think I'll go that route and use the robarts for the elevator and rudder for sure and then do the ailerons when its time for a restoration! Thanks

RE: GP Super Stearman
Oh ok I see what you are saying now. I think I'm going to use the ca hinges this time but will probably go to the robarts or something else once I get to the point of needing a recovering job possibly later on. I'm planning on flying this plane quite a bit. I like flying different types of planes a lot but I have a feeling this will be a favorite of mine. Im into learning 3d lately but still like scale type flying since I used to have a full size pitts. ( hoping to get another acro mount when I get my medical back)

also I don't think Im going to use the dummy radial at this time since i'm using an actual radial and want to show off my saito too, but I beleive the engine has plenty of weight, I agree the manual seems pretty well written and gp had only one tech notice on the color of the covering LOL. The model seems really easy to put together without a lot of time consuming things to do just gotta dig in and go pretty much.

RE: GP Super Stearman
do you recommend the robart hinges on this model? I was going to use the ca hinges but I'm open to suggestions. I wish they made it easeir to put hinges on rc plances where you could remove the control surfaces easy for mx, than having to cut them off and redo them each time, I have some robart hinge pockets I bought last week and going to see how those would work for easy removal

RE: GP Super Stearman
Thanks Jim I'll recover them if they present much a problem. I usually build kits but liked this plane so here I am. I also wanted to throw my radial on something and fly it not have a hangar queen. You think that I would be safe installing the elevator and rudder servos in the tail since the radial will be heavy then?

RE: GP Super Stearman
Well I just broke my super stearman out of the box and fixing to begin assembling. Any tips I'd appreciate. I'm going to install a saito 170r3 on her. I figure that will solve the weight issue for the nose. I've got all of my stuff ready just need to check out gp's updates for the manual as well as you guys recommendations. How long does this plane usually take to assemble at the field? Thanks guys!

RE: First Time Kit Builder: Project GP Super Decathalon
I've got one I still fly and put a 46ax on it at first and it was fun but didn't fly scale so I ended up with a 46la on it now and enjoy it a lot. It's been awhile since I flew it lately but I may get her down to play with next time I'm out. I played with The idea of a 40la but the 46la runs good and is just as light. As far as the tip stalling mine does when it's slowed down but I think if you would put some washout in the wing it would greatly improve that issue. I put some in my latest gp extra and she's a kitten compared to others. I'm not sure about the others remarks about the stab, they could be right. I tend to think the washout would be where the problem Could arise at.

RE: Would like to try 3d and wonder if my planes would work?
Been flying my crack pitts some and I'm Gettin the hang of hovering pretty quick. Does anyone have a recomondation of how to go about learning the 3d maneuvers? Like a progression type syllabus. IE. Start hovering, then do up right hovering, then walls , then turbinators then.... I'd like for my flights to have direction and purpose. I wish I would have done that for flying normal type scale acro maneuvers. I am a full scale pilot and have been trained by a plan for most of my different types of flying except crop dusting haha, but even competition aerobatics has a somewhat of a stepping stone progression with each level getting more complicated. Just wondering if anyone knew of a book or online document

RE: ARF for my O.S. 46 FX (Phoenix 300 extra)
I don't have the phoenix 300 but a 40 size great planes extra kit i built and it flies really good with a 46fx, the planes are pretty much the same as I used the poenix fiberglass cowl for my kit plane and its wingspan is 58 inches. I think you would notice the power difference but the 55 will mount right into the 46's place if you decided to upgrade it after flying it. I would use the 46 to get started with and then if you wanted more power you could always drop it in later.

RE: help me deal with this guy!!!
You two (Eddie and Taz) need to knock it off. I don't see how both of you pumping your egos is going to help either one of you. As for the original posters statement. Man don't sweat the small stuff most people on ebay can tell that a negative claim is bogus or not just by the language of the negative feedback. You can't let one bad apple spoil the basket just throw it out and move on. I know its irritating to deal with people like that but usually its to their own demise anyway. My advice is you can either spend time trying to seek and destroy one individual or you can use that same time and gain more and productive customers or products. I see this all the time in our business, when a guy wants to prove a point, all he usually does is hurt hisself. Here is another thought about ebay for everyone to chew on too. If you don't like it don't use it, if their sales go down enough they'll change their practices and at that time you can either decide to be a returning customer or not. Its America no one has a gun to your head telling you to use eBay. If you hate it that much make your own auction site!
