RE: Caldera SC 10E
Im thinking about converting my Caldera 10e to the SC version. What do you think, just a bumper, tires/wheel, and body, is that all it takes? I'd also like to hear if others have run the 10sc against the mainstream sct, and how they compared.

racing aftershock 8e
Anyone race thier aftershock 8e, either competitively or just for fun? What upgrades have you found that were required, or parts that broke. We've got a small local track which I'm thinking about joining.

RE: 8e turnbuckle size?
ya, i initially bought a 4mm wrench (cause they called the turnbuckles 4mm ones), but soon found out that it actually isn't. I could do as you suggest and file the 4mm wrench to fit.

RE: My Aftershock 8E Build thread.
Wow, good score on that one!! Just to let you know, I'm appreciating your thread and regular updates of the aftershock. I have one too, and have upgraded the steering arm, C Hubs, stainless screws, and fr/rr suspension mounts. This thing is almost to fast, and i think I'm gonna try to lower the punch as it is hard to keep control from starts.

RE: 8e turnbuckle size?
We don't have Menards in canada, and HD didn't have the mini-size. I have been looking online, but can only find singles for a reasonable price. I've found sets, but once you add the shipping costs (we get hosed for shipping costs here in Canada for items coming across the boarder), the price is more than I think its worth. I'm gonna keep an eye out at the various well known online hobby stores for the 4.5mm.

RE: My Aftershock 8E Build thread.
ORIGINAL: All-or-Nothing So far this is what I have into the truck... Aftershock 8E $209 with free shipping Heat Sink $7 Fan $9 AKA Rims (17MM SET OF 4) $20 JConcepts Goosebumps (Set of 4) $36 45 Weight Shock Oil $4 40 Weight Shock oil $4 Diff Oil $10 12MM to 17MM adapters $15 New High Torque Servo $12 These are all things that anyone racing their trucks would purchase besides maybe the hub adapters. All in right now I have $326 including the truck's price. All the the Toe-In and Camber adjustments were done with my Hudy 1/8 Set-Up Station. This truck runs just as fast as any of the other "Big Name Brand" trucks at our track and as I get more practice I see many wins in the future. I am running the stock batteries and they have plenty punch almost too much in some of the turns and technical parts. Gonna hit the track this afternoon and have better details on how it handles and more settings. I do need to go with harder springs to smooth out the landings more but I don't know how that will affect the handling. Anyways I will report here how it does.
How did you get the truck for $209? wasn't it $289?

RE: ESC Programming
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner OK, start with which model. the ezrun 35amp ESC in the caldera can be programed with ease via a $10 program card(if it even costs that much) the ezrun 80amp in the 8e's can be programed as well with a program card. closer to $20 for the card tho. i believe that rufaster.com and urchobby.com have them. the novatech ESC in the epx pros does not need any programing. it auto detects end points, nimh and lipo packs ect. those are the ESCs i know about. the others i have yet to use.
As far as I know, you don't need the LCD programmer for the 80A ESc. I use the LED one on my aftershock 8e. You just don't get the USB update functionality.

8e turnbuckle size?
Ok, I have a Caldera 10e and aftershock 8e which use the same turnbuckles. I thought they were 4mm, so I bought a 4mm turnbuckle wrench, but it appears to small. Is it just my wrench that appears wacked, or is it a differnt size?

I find the aftershock 8e shocks to have too little rebound (won't return the truck to a nice sitting position). I understand that I could try changing the shock oil wt., but does anyone know what the stock oil wt. is?

RE: Earthquake 8e motor wiring
Just put the yellow to yellow, and it doesn't mater for the others. It will just switch direction of the motor and your transmitter has a switch to take care of that.

RE: My Aftershock 8E Build thread.
Those are some good observations. I've noticed the same things, but most are easy fixes. Throw up some pics with your new wheels/tires when you have them mounted. i think I'm gonna order a proline Ford Raptor body and see how that holds-up. I think if redcat was to look at fixing one thing with this vehicle, it should be the body mounts. Seems as though many people have issues with the small hole supports(?) and that the mounts seem to snap. The only other thing I've noticed is that the ESC fan seems to get somewhat plugged with grass/dirt, and I'm thinking of making somekind of shield to try to keep most of it out, but still allow adequate air flow for the fan. Would have also been nice if the flimsy plastic side sheilds were made of a somewhat stronger plastic or possibly alum. as during racing, there are many side hits and the aftershock has nothing to absorb the impact.

RE: My Aftershock 8E Build thread.
OK, sounds like you are having better luck with the body than I did. I hope it stands up to your bashing/racing. Ya, the stock tires suck, I'm looking at the proline gladiators, and will probably just get a set of wheels also, just to make it easier. I wanna take this to the local track, but just need to get the nerve-up so the guys don't laugh me out, as they are all Traxxas, HPI types. It'll be fun though, and I honestly don't care what they think. Keep us updated on how it works on the track, as I think there are many of us who have this truck, but aren't sure about racing it.

RE: My Aftershock 8E Build thread.
Nice detail with the pics................Have you run/raced with that aftershock body? If so, i bet it won't last long. I've added washers to the body mounts, but find that the body is still a very weak point. What have other people run for a body on their aftershock? I'm trying to find one were the wheels will be tucked in, as that's a track rule for me.

RE: Twister xtg Pro problems.
Is there a manufacturers name on the ESC? If it's like the other hobbywing Ezrun, then it's programmable. I would look for any indication of manufacturer/model # on the ESC and try googling that. Maybe a dumb question, but you are double-clicking the throttle to get it into reverse aren't you?

RE: aftershock 8e shocks
Ok thanks guys, I'll check those numbers out. I don't think the plastic part screws onto the shaft, looks to be molded on. Anyhow, it appears that one would need to purchase the entire shock set.

aftershock 8e shocks
So I took my new aftershock out for its first run, and I've already managed to break some plastic on the shock. The plastic that is surrounding the ball at the end of the shock shaft split. leaving the ball screwed into the A-arm and the shock flappin around. The shock looks fine otherwise. Does Redcat sell parts to rebuild these shocks (i.e. shaft with this plastic end part)? I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new set as this is the only issue. Also, I've seen other pictures of people's trucks with an all aluminum shock (not just the cap), what part number is that? I beleive BS903-004-a is what came with the truck, and I can't find a mention of an all aluminum one. These are what came with the truck....I dont have a photo of the broken one

RE: Redcat needs a PRO driver to race their trucks...
Keep them affordable, and the most "bang for your buck", and you will get people interested in them. I'm just getting back into the hobby after 20 or so years, and when i was doing my research on what to get. Redcat came up as one of the most bang for the money. Because it is a relatively new company, the diehards are also gonna question the company, but with more positive exposure, you can slowly change that.

RE: Redcat needs a PRO driver to race their trucks...
Yup, with the cost of sponsoring and marketing, has to be recouped somewhere, and the easiest is to jump each vehicle by x dollars. I agree with promoting the redcat name at local events, but are people willing to subsum the extra cost?

RE: aftershock 8e differential oil?
Nice info on the oils, but this shouldn't leak out of them should it? What's up with that, all three of them are like this.
ORIGINAL: JTuepker1 Diffs are the first thing i change when i get a new rc no matter what. Currently on my back draft, same set up as aftershock im running 5k front 5k middle and 3k rear, i run on hard packed clay, depending on might change a bit as lose dirt you might want more or less bite. Good rule of thumb i carry 5k 4k 3k diff oils.
aftershock 8e differential oil?
So I just received a new aftershock 8e, opened the box, and noticed some oil stains on the inside of the cardboard box (3 diff spots). Thought that was odd, and started looking at the truck. All three differentials casings seemed to be soaked in a clear oil on the plastics. Since this didn't seem right to me (and I'm no expert), i decided to open the differentials, and they were dry (no grease). They did seem to have some residual oil, but not much. As I opened the front and rear differential i added grease, so I should be good there, but i couldn't get the centre out as the set screw on the diff cups was so secure it just stripped the screw (both cups are like this). I'm assuming I need to remove this to get at the differential as I couldn't see any other way. Is Redcat filling these with oil now, and mine just happened to leak everywhere? What else could this be? i did check the shocks and they seemed clean and worked properly. What do you guys think?

RE: Caldera 10e alum Upgrades install
Thanks nitro, I did eventually end up doing that, but am still finding that if the 10mm mounting screws are tightened down, the knuckle arm doesn't want to turn freely. I'm afraid that the screws will just back off and the knuckle will not be secure (that is what happened to my plastic knuckle arms, which basically wrecked them)

Caldera 10e alum Upgrades install
So I ended up trying to install the MPO-02 (C HUB) and MPO-03 (Knuckle arm) on my Caldera 10e and am finding that they don't seem to fit snug like the plastic parts. The knuckle arm sits shy by about 1/16" (mount to mount) from the inside height of the C-Hub. This 1/16" of space doesn't seem like a very good fit, as it would put alot of stress on the mounting screws holding the knuckle arm in. Am I missing something here? It almost seems as thought the alum C-hub is slightly larger than the plastic version. If I tighten it down, then the knuckle arm doesn't rotate freely, and I'm afraid that if i leave it loose enough so that it does rotate freely, that the screws will just work their way loose, even with using loctite. I'm posting from work, so don't have picturers right now, but would like the opinions of others who have done this upgrade.
