RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
I maiden flew my brand new Hangar 9 Pulse 60 today (60 deg clear weather) and had a catastrophic failure/burn up of the CC ICE 75 ESC while in flight. I lost all motor and flight control and she nosed in and busted my new plane into a million small pieces. I was 5 min into a very lovely and uneventful maiden flight at 50% throttle when the burn up occurred and I lost all controls. It melted some of the covering on my plane and I’m lucky there was no big fire. The ESC had excellent air flow across it. My motor, receiver, lipo battery, and 4 ds821 servos are all fine, and bench tested ok today, but the ICE 75 ESC looks like a piece of charcoal. I bench tested my entire system earlier in the week, and the plane ran fine. At that time my watt meter told me she was safely below top end operating specs: - Drawing 45 amps peak current, wide open throttle - Running at 875 watts peak power, wide open throttle I know CC won't be responsible for replacing my new Hangar 9 Pulse XT 60 ARF ($230) , but hope they consider replacing the ICE 75 ESC and waive the $60 ESC repair fee since it was clearly bad. Here was a summary of my system set up: - New E-flite Power 60 outrunner motor (rated 40-60amps and 1200 watts) - Zippy Flightmax 20c 4000mah 6s1p lipo battery, fully balance charged - CC ICE 75 ESC (Castle linked with latest software, factory settings, outrunner mode, brake off, BEC set at 6v) - APC Electric 16 x 8 propeller - Futaba 6ex 2.4ghz FASST receiver

The Pulse 60 restock date just slipped from 17 Jan to 21 Jan. Must be bad weather on the Pacific effecting that slow boat from China ! EDIT: finally in stock again
ORIGINAL: davepa Does anyone know if the 6s 5000mha turnigy's will fit in the pulse without any mods to the battery tray.I checked the size of the packs and measured the battery compartment and it seems like they will stick up too high and the hatch wont go on.I'd like to know before i order any. Thanks
A measurement of the battery area would be great from one of you guys who owns this plane !

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Just went to the HH web site. HH is raising the price on the Pulse 60 by $20. So I'm looking for alternatives. That really pisses me off for a model that is a few years old. Seeks like its all about the money these days !

This is the plane I'm leaning toward as an alternative to the Pulse 60. It is very similiar in size, weight, design, and build, but $40 less expensive at $190 vice $230 for the pulse 60. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1350956

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
Definetly a big thread. I have done a quick perusal and found lots of good info. - Any E flyer that could post a pic of your battery tray design would be most appreciated. As well as your ESC placement. Interested in your power system specs too. - It appears HH heard your critique of the firewall design because my later model shows significant reinforcement with interior block stock and two fore/aft bulkheads to tie the firewall to the next frame aft and the fuselage - would have been nice if the cowl mounting blocks came precurved and preinstalled......like on the H9 Spit which I also have/fly Thanks, Brian

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
My new H9 F4U Corsair just arrived. She is perfect and beautiful ! I'm gonna do an electric conversion as a winter project. I welcome any tips and advice. Gonna use a JR 791 high torque retract servo. Thinking about fitting some 3/8" straight Robart struts over the existing 5/32" wire gear (after cutting just below the coil). Any one done this yet........does it fit/work ? Any problems ? Any other E-flyers.....what motor and size lipo are you using ? Thanks, Brian

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Thanks Hidaven What is the approx weight of your motor, and the weight (and c rating) of your lipo please ? I'm leaning to a Power 90 motor (15.8 oz.......450g) because I have one. The power 90 is an 1800 watt continuous motor. I have an 8s , 25c 5000mah zippy lipo combo and a 7s, 25c 5000mah combo available. I am trying to decide which is best. I flew the power 90 using the 8s combo on an 11lbs P-51 and it was great. But to keep the weight down on the Pulse 60, I might use the 7s combo instead and hopefully minimize tail weight additions. I was gonna start with an APC 15 x 10E prop which I have.............also have an APC 16 x 8E available too. Brian

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Great thread you guys ! So many great tips. After flying my Pulse 40 for 3 years I recently sold it and am buying the 60 this winter as soon as it is back in stock. Bigger is better ....right ? I love this plane and can't wiat for Spring in Illinois ! I fly electric and have an extra E-flite Power 90 outrunner and a CC ICE 75 ESC begging for use. Of course the 90 will need a 7 or 8 cell lipo to really get her moving. Any other electric flyer going above the recomended Power 60 like this ? Can the Pulse 60 bear the few extra onces of weight ? Is the battery area big enought to accomodate a lipo larger than 6s ? I like speed and power !! Appreciate youe E-feedback ! Smile ! Brian

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
I use about 20deg flaps for take off and landing. On take off, it helps running smoothly over our club's bumpy grass field. On landing it really makes for a softer, slower touch down. I programmed a 5deg down on my elevator when I actuate my flaps and I get no ballooning when I deploy the flaps in flight prior to landing. My Futaba 6ex radio only has a flaps up/down switch (no variable slider or 3 position), so I think I found a good setting for both take-off/landing at 20deg. Brian

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
thanks Joe. I agree, she is a beauty ! I love the way my 3 blade prop looks, I may have to upgrade the motor so I can use it and get the power I want. I also have a Hangar 9 P-51 blue nose that cost twice as much, but I favor my T-28......it flies and lands so much nicer.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Many thanks to all the contributors to this thread. I just recently built my new BH T-28 ARF 61 that I got 3 mos ago on RCGroups for $150 shipped......a bargain now that Hobby People wants $199 for one. I used many of the great tips you all shared with this group. After 5 flights she is looking good ! I converted mine to electric with an E-Flite Power 60 outrunner, a CC HV85v ESC with a BEC Pro, and am using a 20c 6s Zippy Flightmax 4000mah lipo. In lieu of the bendy wire gear I put on 3/8" Robart struts all around. Makes our club's bumpy grass field a little more friendly. I tried a Master Airscrew 14 x 9 3 blade prop but did'nt get the speed I wanted, so ended up with a standard 2 blade APC 15 x 10 on there now. Perfect ! Brian Philipp

I fly electric and read somewhere the rule of thumb is go down one size in diameter, and up one size in pitch, to go from 2 blade to 3 blade anyone ever try this one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX1642&P=M or this one http://www.the436modelshop.co.nz/item_detail.asp?id=3341&category=

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
I got my H9 P-51 blue nose 3 days ago. The arf was missing 4 pushrods for the flaps/ailerons and the power 90 20mm motor spacers were missing too. The spinner bolt/nut is also the wrong thread for the power 90 adapter shaft. The spinner backplate hole was not big enough for the 10mm power 90 adapter shaft, and it needed reaming. Ended up putting pronged 8/32 thread blind nuts in the firewall, then used some locally bought 8/32 threaded rod stiffened by 3" worth (76.2mm) of nylon spacers to mount my power 90. According to the manual you use a 45mm spacer (for power 60) and 20mm spacer together for the power 90.......don't see that working since I needed 76.2mm. More like an electric conversion arf than an electric option one ! The cowl is big and long, and a little too thin/flexible. Its tough to get a good fit between the cowl and the spinner backplate that looks consistant and won't rub. A right thrust angle on the firewall front makes the cowl/spinner alignment a trial and error pain. I'm gonna stiffen and reinforce the cowl with some nylon threaded tape on the inside. Lovely plane though, can't wait to get her up and flying. Brian Philipp Swansea IL

RE: Futaba R617FS 2.4GHz Receiver problem
KRYSTA....help please, I am having trouble binding a new Futaba R617fs receiver to my Futaba 6ex FASST radio. I have done this successfully with 4 other of the same receivers in my other planes, but no joy with this one. In fact, its the second one in a row. The first I sent back to the internet hobby store I bought it from as defective, and they sent a replacement. Now this second one does the same thing. I get a green flashing light when I power up, but when I press and hold the link button to bind it, it goes flashing red, then back to flashing green after pressing/holding again. I tried binding this receiver using 4 differnt speed controls (all working good with other R617fs recvrs and my radio) and differnt lipos. Nothing ! Any suggestions, Thanks, Brian F Philipp Swansea, IL

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver 25e
ALL the pushrods are long, even wing rods for flaps and ailerons. Servo orientaion was the first thing I looked at. Its correct. I think the Tiawanese box stuffers grabbed another plane's bag-o-bolts ! I'll make it work, but its a pain in the ass. Waiting for my missing clevis. And I guess I'll grind the bind out of my tailwheel pushrod where it hits wood and metal.

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver 25e
I'm building my Christmas Santa Beaver gift now. My servo linkages are kicking my butt tho. HH shorted me one nylon clevis and are sending it next week The pushrods are all too long, and I am having to size, cut and rebend the 90deg where the pushrod meets the servo arm. Is this a common problem ? This is only my 2cnd ARF And my tailwheel pushrod binds on the fuselage and black metal tail wheel control arm fitting where it exits the tail. Its like the tail wheel control arm fitting is an 1/8" too short causing the pushrod to rub as the tail wheel tries to turn any help appreciated Brian Philipp Swansea, IL

RE: E-flite J-3 Cub 25 ARF
Hello J-3 Cub owners. Santa has brought me an early gift and I will be building my Cub Xmas day after the kids see it under the tree. I will be using the Power 25 motor with an Electrifly 45a ESC, powered by a 4s2p brick build 15c TP 4200mah lipo (13oz....barely fits). I'll using the JR MN48 servos and 12x6e prop recommended by E-Flite. No plans to do floats yet. I want to master ground ops first. I have read this entire thread.....great tips. I hope the big battery works out CG wise (its only 2 oz more than the stock NiCad also recomended by E-Flite). If its too heavy I will parallel wire two 20c 3s1p 1800 mah lipos. That configuration comes in at 11 oz and change. Will keep you updated. Thanks, Brian Philipp Swansea, IL

RE: T-28 Motor Swap - Park 480 1020KV ??
The E-flite Park 480 outrunner will not directly fit the stock motor mount for the stock Parkzone Park 480 motor. However the E-flite Power 10 outrunner is a perfect fit, albeit a bit heavier and more expensive. I modified both my Parkzone T28 and F4U Corsair with the Power 10, and it really goes. You have to get rid of the stock 25amp ESC and get a bigger/better one as well. At least a 35 amp job, preferably 40 amp. Good luck, Brian Philipp Swansea, IL

I have a Parkzone T28 and have flown it for over a year.......I love mine. I have upgraded the motor to an EFlite Power 10 with a larger ESC, and even added flaps. That said, my Corsair is on order and I can't wait to fly it. Been in love with that plane since watching Baa-Baa Black Sheep on tv as a boy. Brian Philipp Swansea, IL
