Let me share my Friday with you...
I want to share my story of what happened to me and three friends this Friday, March 26 2011. Typical day flying at our usual spot. Friend of mine flies his a-10 warthog in lazy circles. Nothing special, then all of a sudden he losses orientation and goes behind some tree's. We hear a slam, a crack, and silence. Then the fun starts. Here's is how it goes. We run over to the crash zone and notice a huuuge clump of trees and tall grass all over. We start looking for pieces and eventually we come across the cockpit. Then right next to it...the elevator. Theeen the rudder. Finally we decide to look up. And there it is. A fuselage and a wing nestled perfectly in a tree. We spend 2 hours of our Friday tying ropes to these trees and shaking the wings down. We climb up, tie the rope, then shake it. It took twooooo hours for the wing to go down finally. Aaaand we saw our final problem. We were missing half of the fuse. The front section with the Lipo and reciever....thats the moment we happened to notice a 10 foot steel drain sticking straight out of the ground. No way it could have landed there...it did. So after another hour of trying to poke at it and get it, i decided to be a hero [:D]. I tie a rope to my waist, get my 3 friends to hold the ropes steady, and "rock-climbed" down the huge pipe. Got all the way down to about 2 feet of water with night approaching and the darkness setting in, and got the last piece of the plane. Then finally managed to get pulled out, climbed out and put the plane in my friends hands. Like a pro today, i would never leave a plane behind no matter where it is.[:D] Took 4 hours but the adventure was worth it! Comment if you liked the story!

RE: Lipo & Brushless on a budget.. what would you get?
I just read this forum from start to finish. Why does everyone keep feeding the robbiep. guy? You guys should get back to the topic at the start of this thread. So to the OP..I fly airplanes. They are completely different from cars. If i throw a cheap system in my buggy, i can have a fun basher for cheap. But airplanes require more. They need a system that runs and runs well through stress. So in my experience i have seen that Hobbywing and such companies make nice qualtiy components for rc's. Just dont expect to get data logging capabilities like castle esc can provide. Hobbywing stuff is good qualtiy. They can do what theyre supposed to do. I fly my favorite spitfire with a exceed rc bl motor. I used to have an eflite bl that set me back 60 dollars. It kept messing up and was a crappy experience. Then i got that exceed rc motor for 10 dollars. Came with all parts and accesories and such. For only ten bucks. And just so somme people dont start trolling on me telking me im a china buyer..in that same spitfire i have an eflite esc and an eflite lipo..not cheap at all. All in all, answer the guys question people. He needs to know what he can use for cheap. Doesnt mean he wants a war on his thread about what YOU think is better. He cares about what HE could use. Common guys lets be civil.

How to stop wing flexing
So heres my tought battle. I have an old decathlon donated to me. Once i finished it up i noticed i needed wing struts. After i added the struts i noticed weak points in the struts mounting areas and so forth. My main nightmare is taking off and having my wing snap after so much hard work. So what can i do to at least assure me that the wing wont flex and snap?

RE: Where to position fuel tank????
I see the fuel going into th carb when i plug it and turn the prop, but that doesnt mean im not leaking fuel. When i removed the wing i saw fuel all over the insides and when i tipped the fuel tank to a level horizontal position, i saw fuel running out of it. Im going to use the underwater thing and double check.

Where to position fuel tank????
Hey guys, i have a problem. I have a decathlon with a nitro engine mounted vertically. Nothing fancy there. Now my fuel tank was mounted about 4 inches behind it and the tanks centerline was close to the my engines carb line. Now to start that engine, i would have to tip the nose down to get fuel running. If i could start it then, i could but it back on its trike landing gear but after maybe 10 minutes at idle it would sputter and die. So i restarted the plane and held it in my hands. When i dipped the nose down, i had a surge of power. But when i tipped the nose slightly up, i immediatly had sputter and stall. Now i think my tank was leaking some air during all of this. So what should i do to repair this problem? Other than replacing the tank with a new one[:D]

Where to find a glow plug of this size.....
So i found this engine online and i have to say one thing..its tiiiiiiny! Its so cool! But the glow plug hole is a ton smaller than my other engine and thats the only one im used to. So if this new engine has a glow plug hole with a diameter of about 1/4". Its a teeny bit smaller than that but it roughly fits that size dimension. So where do i get a glow plug of that size? Or can i just tap the head which is made of aluminum it seems and tap it for regular size glow plug? Please help!

RE: Want to replace my brushless...
see thats what i thought too..but then i relaized that if i use a prop that had a very very low pitch, that i could in fact run the prop on this motor. And that goes with the fact that i wouldnt be starting from zero and throwing it into max throttle. Il try first on a bench tester and see what happens with a eight by 6 before i throw it onto a plane. But from my theory, if i use saw a 7*3 i can have a nice speed demon type plane. Or at least the motor. anyways, whatever works or doesnt work, this motor and esc are nothing to me. Iv tried selling them to no avail. And i have no plane to stuff them in so a little stress testing couldnt hurt me at all [:D]

Hello everyone, I have a spitfire that i run with a 1500kv brushless outrunner, a 25 amp esc, and a 3s 1500mah battery. Now i want to replace that with a 4300kv outrunner, a 30 amp esc, and the same battery. Of course the 4300kv will run much faster while spinning the same prop right?

RE: I want to buy your damaged old planes
Haha exactly! I'm looking for winter projects! And unfortanatly no I would not take the Avistar. See I'm looking for those planes that you've crashed and left sitting in a corner of the attic, forgotten because you don't want to fix it anymore. Or the plane that's so old you think it will vibrate to death when you start the engine up.

I want to buy your damaged old planes
This goes out to everyone and anyone who has a old, destroyed, retired, or just not airworthy plane or airframe that they would like to get rid of. Im looking for any electric, nitro, or gasser that you have and i would like to buy it. I love repairing old and damaged planes and i need new projects! If the wing was destroyed i want it. If the nose took a dive straight into the ground, i want it. If the planes been sitting in the attic so long there are cobwebs under the monokote i want it. If you have anything that you think will fit the description please reply with a a picture of the plane or planes, some description of what the damage is, and we can go from there. Thanks!

K-jet 65mm edf build
Okay this is my first build log so bear with me on this one guys.. So this will be a build log focusing on the contsruction of the K-jet, a forward swept, all balsa, edf jet. I designed this jet in lat March of this year and have just now reached my construction phase. I designed this jet with simplicity in mind: One size of balsa for the entire build, 1oz fiberglass throughout, eflite 60 amp esc, eflight delta v480 ducted fan set, 6 Hobbypartz 5g servos, and a Hobbypartz blue lipo 3s 20c 25000mah battery. Side note: If anyone would be interested in buying a set of PDF plans for this plane i will be selling them for 6$. Just send me a pm if your interested! So i start with a stack of balsa wood sheets donated by a good friend who didnt need them anymore. What better use for them than to build a expiremental jet with? exactly! So i took my plans and traced out a set of bulkheads and before i cut them from the sheet i cut away their centers for future wiring. I then used a dremel to cut tiny squares into their sides and then glued donw streamers. I also added a servo tray and a battery tray though i think i will need to beef up the servo tray. Il figure that out after i install the servos and see what they do. Oh and as you can see i also added the control rod tubes but dont pay attention to the front one all by itself. Il remove that and have the nose wheel servo in the actual front where it belongs. So now i move on to covering! I use another sheet of balsa: lay it own, spray windex on it, let it soak in and then its as bendy as paper. I then lay down the sheet on the frame, bend it around and hold with rubberbands. i used Ca for this but if you choose epoxy that will work well too. I just like Ca's curing time especially with kicker. By the by, kicker is my best friend in this build! Made things ready to go in only seconds! I highley recommend kicker. So i have one center section covered and also 2 slanted sections covered. Now its starting to look like a real fuselage[:D]

RE: Is this a stall??
i used this calculator when this plane was first being built and i also put in S as a negative value. it gave me a cg 1.5 inches rear of the leading edge and thats too far foward for this plane. \i would have to have added almost 2 pounds to the nose for it to balance! So mving the wings back adds more weight to the nose without adding dead weight. Il input the specs again into the calculator when iu get back frim Canada in a week. Il actually run it down the runway and see what happens with the wings moved back first, seeing as how iv run out of funds for this airplane and if it crashes il strip it of its electronics and move them to other projects while keeping the airframe for testing and cg calculations[&o]

and there might be nose up torque, but i have the battery and some pot iron in the nose of the craft so that should help. That and i moved the wings back an inch and a half so that should increase weight up front to deal with the torque

RE: Is this a stall??
forward swept wings are tricky in the way that they move the cg far forward so the wings need to be moved back. The wings were on the lane near the nose, as a styandard wing would be..but alas, where a straight wing is placed is NOT the same place a forward swept wing should be[&:]

Is this a stall??
What i have is a description of a series of events that led to a expirimental forward swept edf to crash. Is this a stall? Airplane taxi's down runway and prepares for takeoff. Airplane rolls down runway gaining speed. About 100 feet from the designated takeoff point, aircraft violently pitches up, drops a wing, and hits the ground. This sounds like a good old fashion stall caused by improper center of gravity am i correct?

Elevator Size Question
Can sombody please explain how to design a elevator and a horizontal stab? Like is there a ratio of stab to elevator? Im just asking because i have designed a new jet and im worried that my elevator isn't long enough to actually make the aircraft pitch up and down. But my Mig 15 has a pretty small elevator and it isn"t even in the jet exhaust stream and it still work well! Whats the secret? oh and for anyone who wants to know, the median chord (center) of my horizontal stab is 3 inches (rounded) and my elevator in the center is 1 inch (rounded) and the planes weighs about 1.6 pounds. Can someone help?

RE: Just finished my spitfire jet!
My landing gear do give the plane a slight up angle of attack so im sure i'l be fine on takeoff as long as i make sure the plane is lifting off with sufficient thrust. That and my landing gear are in a trike setup so they should take the plane off fine. If not i can always bend them to where they need to be.
