RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Thanks Jordan! Is the DLE still working OK for you? Scott, congrats on getting some air under the wings! I'm glad you've negotiated more time at your field! I look forward to the day we get together and "rip up the sky" together... We should go up to Camp Hale and do some real nostalgic WWII flying [:D] BTW how's the water level in Dillon Reservoir these days? Haven't been over that way yet this summer... Back to the nose over issue, I did some modifications to the mounting blocks for my retracts. I gave them 5 degrees more forward angle and boy am I glad I did! I figure a little better elevator control and maybe a CG adjustment, I'll have a pretty stable airplane on the ground. I may shim the gear to give it a little bit more forward angle, we'll see. Here are some pics of the modification. Build Well! Ben

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Good work Scott! FINALLY! Made the first flight today... I've been helping a guy and his son learn to fly over the past several weeks and it has taken all of my attention. Didn't get all of the detailing done.... The plane flew great had to add left aileron trim but other than that it was solid. Only problem was on the landing when she nosed over toward the end of the roll out. Our runway is a little bumpy so it may have contributed to the problem. I have also left the struts and gear doors off for the time being. Sorry no in flight pics, the guy who was going to take the photos got too caught up in the moment and forgot! Build Well! Ben

RE: have to share room with WIFE..........
You guys crack me up!!! Sounds like you are lucky to have a wife that wants to hang out with ya...[;)] Get her set up with a nice little corner unit that will handle her Cricut and other scrapbooky stuff, and you are all set! She may or may not want to be there when the fumes and sawdust are wafting through the room, but at least she'll know you care...[:D] Your building table is fine unless you are going for 1/4 scale or larger... Good luck with your build, I'd stick with an ABC or a ringed engine, the WIFE can be a little touchy unless she's tuned just right!

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Alright! I am getting really excited about the Jug! I fired her up tonight for the first time and she purrs like a kitten! I've decided to add some panel lines and a little bit of detail before the first flight, so maybe in a few weeks, I'll have a maiden flight under my belt! Thanks everyone for all of the input, and I'll post again when I have more news...[8D] Build well! Ben Have tried to post pics but no luck....[>:] Maybe later.

RE: Four Star 120, or Spacewalker 2?
ORIGINAL: biam There is a very informative four star 120 build thread in this section, just got through reading all 29 pages, and man do I have the fever to build one of these too,[:D] I will have to keep it on the down low from the little woman, she says I have too many projects goin already! Ill try to hide it some where, whatcha think?[:)]
Might be kind of hard to "hide" that big ol' 80+ inch wing from the Mrs. [X(] I'm almost ready to cover my 4 star 120 it's been a great build... I can't comment on the Space Walker as I haven't had any experience, but I sure like the looks of it... I'd like to build one one day. Ben

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Thanks guys, Yes, the wing tips are solid balsa, a little bit more weight but I think it makes the wing a little sturdier waaayyy out there at the end[:D] Plus, I can shape them the way I want... I extended the rudder by about 1/2" on the trailing edge, and added a little "swoop" to the top... Another thing I did was to modify the aileron servo mount so the connecting rod doesn't have to be bent. Build Well! Ben

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Hi Guys, I've got a 4* 120 in progress and thought I'd post a few pics of my kit bashing. I dropped one bay from each wing and added a balsa tip, enclosed the nose, re designed the canopy (I still may use the stock one), and did a little modification to the wing tips elevator and rudder. Build well, Ben

RE: I Challenge...........
I have been frustrated by the non-loading pages and the error messages but that only amounts to maybe 3% of the time I'm using the site and usually on the weekends. It is definitely a pain. I suspect that when a bunch of the nearly 500,000 registered members all try and get on at the same time, the site just gets overloaded. Just goes to show you the difference between a business that is a labor of love instead of one that's just to make a buck. One gets tended to a bit more carefully. Too bad we don't see threads that are about how great it was to sell my $5,000.00 airplane to the guy all the way across the country or how I finally got my dream HPI 5SC through this cool web site...[;)] There's my nickel's worth... RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Hey Grumpy, I am using standard servos all around. HiTec 425s in the wing and Futaba 3004s in the fuse. I suspect that they will handle my flying style just fine. The DS821s are great servos, I've got a set of those in a Super Sportster. Hey Leroy, Thanks for the panel line tips! I have come to a standstill on the final details on my P-47... I need to catch some spring fever![8D] I need to mount the Flap servos and finish up the control rods for the elevator and aileron and a bit more final fitting of the gear doors then... I'll be ready to fire her up! Build Well! Ben

RE: Real Flight Basic
gphil I'm not familiar with the basic version, but in V 3.5 you can change your view and keep the ground in your vision while you fly, so you can see the runway on approach. If you have a "view" tab at the top of your window click it... Go to "zoom type" and then "keep ground in view". Hope this will work on your version. As for the landings keep practicing! Ben

RE: Should I Quit
ORIGINAL: luker737 I'm 68 years old and I been trying to learn to fly RC air plane. I have crashed about 14 or 15 planes. I do fly without a buddy cord and do pretty good the biggest problem is landing.I seem to try to land to fast and i also have had other problems like putting my planes in tree and losing the wing in the air.I should say that i do fly glow and like it better then electric. what do you think give up the hobby or not?
Nope don't quit. Stick with glow 'cause you like it, make sure the wing is attached and batteries are charged etc. (pre-flight stuff), stay away from the trees, and do some touch and gos.... ahicks, Yes, the jam nut tightens down on the prop nut to keep it secure and is also threaded for a spinner bolt. This adapter is designed for a four stroke engine that has the same thread size as the Syssa. Ben

RE: plz dont bash me
Hey Bobby, cummins driver has made some great suggestions here and given you some links for where to buy them. If you have a local hobby shop don't forget to check them out too. I have a Duratrax Evader that I let my friends drive when they want to try out the hobby and it has been great. Since you are asking about learning how to use the controls, it's just going to take some practice, you'll catch on quick. Don't forget that when you buy your vehicle, (assuming you go electric) you will also need to buy a battery to power the car and a charger to charge the battery. If you want to keep it simple just get a nickel metal hydride battery and a wall charger. When you get into brushless motors you can investigate more battery and charger options. There are a whole bunch of options out there in both glow and electric so do some research and keep learning. [8D] Good luck and have fun...... Ben
ORIGINAL: cummins driver These are the ones I would choose from if I were you. Electrix Circuit http://www.overdriverc.com/proddetail.php?prod=ECX1100-Electrix-RC-Circuit-1-10-Stadium-Truck-Gray Duratrax Evader http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAAMW**&P=FR Traxxas Rustler http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNJH9**&P=FR Associated T4 brushless http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXYYD9**&P=ML I would reccomend something along these lines. The Rustler and the T4.1 will be the best of the bunch. The T4 is actually brushless which is much better in the long run, and with the stock gearing the T4.1 shouldnt be too hard to learn on. The Rustler will probably be the most durable, but doesent handle as well. If you dont want to spend the money on the rustler or T4.1, the Evader or Circuit are a great budget setup, especially if you are just learning to drive. The evader has a 1 year warranty on all the plastic parts, and they will basically warranty anything on the truck for a year if you have the receipt. Eric
