RE: EXTRA 330S WITH GAS ENGINE!!!
Weight would be the main concern. If you have to add a bunch of weight to the tail to get the CG right, then it's possible that it will change the flying characteristics of the plane. You might be disappointed. You may have the power to hover, but a 12 pound plane with a 10 pound airframe isn't going to land as slow. You can machine the engine to try to shed some weight, but I don't think it will be enough.

RE: Over reamed Prop
Bud ... the way your luck is runnin' just go ahead and rig it ... there's a 75% chance it's just gonna break before you get to fly it (judging from the history) and a 24.5% chance it's going to rain or be too windy when you are ready. Next time you drive by the hobby shop grab another prop and a centering prop nut (the shank of the nut goes through the prop washer).

OS 4G Carb
I have a family heirloom in the shape of a .46FX that's in need of another carb. From what OS is leading me to believe, the 4B has been discontinued. It's successor, the .46AX had a 4G carb, and no one at the LHS knows if it will work on an FX or not. Has anyone tried it?

RE: HOVERING RATIO???
A thrust calculator will tell you what ammount of thrust your prop is pulling at a given RPm. As for hovering, it's pretty self explanitory. If yopu have a 10 pound plane, you will need at least 11 pounds of static thrust to hover and barely pull out. Most try to keep the thrust to weight ratio around 1.5:1 and that would be very effective. Then, there are others that want more than effective and won't concider anything lower than 3:1. For instance, my Ultimate weighs in at 8.5 pounds. I have an ASP 1.08 on the nose. Spinning a 16X6W prop 11,000 RPMs will give me around 23 pounds of static thrust. To hover this plane and pull out effectively, I would only need about 13 pounds of thrust. You can find prop static thrust calculators all over the internet.

RE: Hangar 9 Tribute 36 + YS63 FZS ??
If you have that much pressure in your fuel tank, then something's wrong. Pressure in the fuel tank should only be slightly more than the atmospheric pressure outside the tank. This goes for any glow engine setup except for pumped engines. As far as the YS .63, well, I have a .46 AX on mine and it runs ok. I had to do some modifications to the fuse (cut out the engine mount, epoxy the wing in place, reinforce the tail wheel and add about an ounce of weight to the bottom of the rudder). Other than that, you might have to modify the main landing gear, I just barely had room for a 12" prop.

RE: Can I safely use a spinner nut on a 4 stroke with a jam nut
I've never had any problems. Another solution is to replace the jamb nuts with a nylon lock nut. Whatever you do, do NOT put a lock washer between the nuts. The only thing that's going to do is gald the shaft.

I had one. Flew it for about a month or so ... wasn't really impressed with it. All the right thrust and offset along with the dihedral wing kinda spoiled it for me. You could take out the right thrust and offset, but then the cowl wouldn't fit right, and it made the top of the firewall weak. I guess it'd be ok for a weekend enthusiast ... I just expected a little better from H9

I ran a 15X4W and a 14X6 and had decent results. A 14X8 shouldn't have loaded the engine down that much. I was getting 9000 with a 15X8. It would probably handle a 16X4W or a 15X6 and keep the RPMs around 9500.

RE: O.S. 91SX-H C-Spec PS
First, the manual is a starting point. Different elevation, climate and fuel will be the ultimate determining factors to the mixture needle setting. The manual is just a starting point. There is no need for the exhaust to pressurise the fuel tank on a pumped engine. that is probably why it is always rich. Remove the pressure line from the muffler and try again.

RE: Parkzone MUstang Question!!!!!!!!!!
In that case, you'll just need another ESC. The only bad thing about it all is like I said before ... their ESC and receiver is an integrated system. installing the components separately could cause a weight problem. Foamies are really touchy when it comes to weight.

RE: Flaps/flaperons down question
ORIGINAL: Ed_Moorman You would use down enevator. I would start with about 5% and work from there. The exact amount will be different for each plane and flap setting.
Actually, that would depend on your CG. If the CG is back far enough you'll need down elevator. If the CG is a little more forward, you'll need up elevator to keep it level. Usually, on a new plane, I'll hit the flapperons in flight to see what it does, then make adjustments from there. speed will also play a part in it. Another way to test it is the yard dart technique. Either way will produce the same result. There is no "one answer fits all" to that question. Depending on the plane, I would program the elevator for level flight at slow speeds. I only use the flapperons on my 3D planes, and they don't fly fast anyways.

sounds like it may be running a tad rich. Have you read this? http://www.supertigre.com/faq/product-faq.html#q22 Also, new ST's don't like alot of nitro. Every new Chinese ST I have owned would run like crap on anything more than 10% nitro until it's broke in good. Sometimes a 4 stroke plug can help ... they're alot cooler than a #8 and will run much smoother on higher nitro

RE: OS 120ax Pitts muffler
ORIGINAL: jetmech43 you may want to go to a 15-10 thats what im running
Well, I did a little experiment this afternoon and I came to the conclusion that my Chipmunk had more problems than I had thought. I was going to put the 1.20 on an edge with a 18X6W prop and an unmodified pitts muffler. As I took the engine loose from the mount I noticed that the inside of the fuel tank compartment had been wet a couple times (fuel) and that the tank braces had come unglued and made the tank sit much lower than it was supposed to. That's when I noticed that the seal around the top of the tank was leaking. Aaaaaaanyways, I put the engine on the edge, get it all tuned in and away it went. I guess I got 8 or 10 good flights in. I was pretty abrasive with it on a couple flights, but it never failed. Transition stayed nice and smooth and WOT never varied. I saw something hanging out of the cowl so I landed. I removed the spinner and cowl only to reveal that the pressure line from the exhaust to the tank wasn't connected to anything ... and looking at the mess on the inside of the cowl, it's entirely possible that it was never hooked up. On the ground, I burned up about 1/4 tank at WOT and it never missed .... idle was fine and transition was good. 2 more short flights and it never coughed hiccuped or groaned. The only other engine (non pumped) I have ever seen do that was a K&B .61. I guess I would have to conclude that I was modifying the exhaust to make up for deficiencies in the fuel system. Usually, if I'm uncertain about an exhaust in a new plane, I'll fly around for a bit without the cowl to see how the engine acts. If everything is ok and I like the way it looks and sounds, I'll commence to butchering up the cowl.

... As a matter of fact, you'd be lucky if you can keep the thing running with the Pitts. They'll fit the 1.20 AX, but they're engineered for higher RPMs than what the 1.20 puts out. By itself, the engine will draw fuel without pressurizing the tank, (once it's broke in) but it will starve when you go inverted or vertical. If you want the pitts for appearance, you'll

RE: Super tigre 90 help
What fuel are you running? Instead of richening the LSN, set the high speed to run just a tad rich. When it heats up, it leans out too much. Also, if it's in a cowl, make sure it has enough ventilation. The only time a 4 stroke plug ever helped me is when the engine was inverted or I was running 15% or more nitro.
