RE: Low Posting Count
Hi, we are still producing skydivers here in South Africa and still going strong!! Not to much modelling activity during our holiday season. Our fly-in season starts soon and we'll be doing demo's at most of them and at some of the major R/C Airshows around our country. We also found that the HALO jumps are very popular with the crowds with the demo jumps!! Busy also with a few new jumps planes, one of which is Scale Electric PC-6 with 3.2meter wingspan, that's about 10 feet wingspan!! We were also recently appointed the SA distributor of Opale Paramodels, which is R/C Powered Paragliders and R/C Slope Roaring Paraglider Kits. Exiting times ahead!! Enjoy the jumping!! Blue Skies!!

RE: skydiver equipped with an altimeter.
Cool Dave, Glad we can give you something to shoot for!! [:)] Although we are on completely different continents, its great to see we all share the same passion and trying the same things with these divers!! Here is a link to the VISO2, it is about the same size as the face of a sport watch, which makes it nice and small to place on a diver. Scroll down you'll find it: http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=181&level=2&parent=5 I have the Eagle Tree stand alone altimeter on my one diver which works well and is quite accurate, its nice and small as well, so can recommend it, but it only give maximum altitude no other telemetry. Blue Skies!! Will keep you updated as soon as we have done a jump with it, but these days I spend more time jumping out of real planes myself!!![:D]

RE: skydiver equipped with an altimeter.
Hi Dave, That's cool, the highest we have gone was 817m (2680 ft) and did a freefall of 40.3 seconds!![:D] We used the Eagle Tree altimeter attached to the diver for that jump. I still want to repeat this with my Visio* attached to skydiver and see what stats we can get. Camera footage would be nice let us know if you have it sorted. We've done a few camera jumps as well, always looks cool, have a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CwpfeF4ysM * Viso2: Is a skydive data logger, which tracks exit altitude, max freefall speed, deployment altitude and max speed under canopy. You must be above a 1000 ft AGL to activate it and freefall for at least 5 seconds. Will keep you posted as soon as we have tested it!![8D]

RE: 50% Large Scale RC Skydiver
Thanks Dave, I still remember your large scale diver, still have photo of it somewhere in my archives!![;)] This one was built for a friend of mine who has one of our divers already, but he wanted one double the size to go witn his plane, a 47% Decathlon. We won't be pushing it as a regular product as well, its just not practical, as not many modellers will have a big enough plane to haul them up. We will be building 2 more, one for myself and one for Riaan our chute builder, which will be used exclusively for marketing purpouses. We also buildt our large canopy with extra reinforcements as well as making it a 9 cell like the full size. [8D]

50% Large Scale RC Skydiver
Here is the newest edition to our range of RC Skydivers just for interest sake. After being inspired by Theo Vassen's Large skydiver, we decided end of last year to start on our own XL large skydiver. After getting some advice from Theo we decided to give it a go and we doubled the size of our standard RC Skydiver.[8D] Our specs on the diver is as follow: It stands 90cm (35.4inches) tall, weight is 6kg's(13.3pounds) and has a chute with a wingspan of 3 meters (9.84 feet). To put that into perspective, my son is 3 and a half years old and fits into the divers jumpsuit as can be seen on the photos here. Theo's diver is 80cm (31.5inches) tall, weighs 4,5kg (9.9pounds) and chute was 2,75 meter (9.02 feet)wingspan. Theo's one is still the biggest one flying/jumping as we were not able to do the maiden jump, the plane developed some technical issues and untill then the diver is also grounded. [:o] However Riaan and myself just wanted to share it with the rest of you guys!! It made its 1st public appearance at the Henley Airshow last the weekend, here are some photos of the diver!! Enjoy!!

How low can you go!!
OK, I heard the Guys at the Munchie event did some "HALO" jumps at the end of the competition, is that correct Bob? I have done a few at flying events and displays, it is a real crowd pleaser, but Riaan and myself did one after our event just for the fun of it, the first time the 2 of us did it toghether. Riaan got so carried away he opened even lower than I did, luckly someone caught it on camera, but he could only track one diver. I opened low but Riaan did it even lower with no damage to his diver!![8D] Anyway enough said here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUsJFSwfrgU Enjoy!![:D]

RE: World Record?
ORIGINAL: GaryV Riann, Thats too cool! Love that Decathlon, whats it powered by and how much does it weigh. Did you by chance calculate how much weight it was carrying in skydivers. Just flew my new 12' Telemaster (new to me anyway) this afternoon, purchased from Paul AKA flyby8 My previous one lost a wing strut in flight and had a very hard landing, when you have no wing or tail they come in very fast and hard. Had to relpace crank and bearings, and weld mounting ear back on case of the DLE111 Gary
Hi Gary, The Decathlon is a TBM Kit (Troy Build Models) or Pilot RC they both market them. The 47% Decathlon is powered by a 215cc ZDZ, swings a 34/10 3W prop, I dont know the all up weight, but it has a very low wing loading and is a great aerobatic permformer. You can see the photo Riaan Posted it uses very little rudder to sit in the Knife Edge. It will carry 10 RC skydivers easially the struts is very strong bi-oval aluminium. As Riaan said we climbed out at 1/4 throttle as it has so much power it will blow the divers out of their boxes. I have received video footage of the record dive and will post it up on YouTube as soon as I finished editing. Regards, Fanie

RE: World Record?
Hi Pieter, The Decathlon is actually a 47% percent size with a 4,6m wingspan. It will carry 10 jumpers easy, but we ran out of "drop boxes"[:@] It climbed at about 1/4 throttle all the way up!! I recall you said you did 13, but only if you show the photo!![:)] We'll try and do better next year, by that time the number of divers would have grown too!! The diver who's chute partially deployed stil took longer than a minute to hit the ground, does that then count for 14 in the air? [>:][;)] Regards, Fanie

RE: Drop Plane on Youtube
Hi, the drop plane looks like an old RCM plan for a drop plane no 631-2 modelled after the pilatus porter, that goes with the chute plan no 631 designed by Konrad Riggenmann featured in issue: RCM 2-76, but they changed it to accomodate the divers side by side instead of one behind the other like in the plan. In the RCM plan they did nit use such "nasty" looking wheels[:)] I might be wring but he RC Skydivers shown is made by a Swedeish gentelman named Nace Valjavec, his username is "nacpadelec" if I recall correctly. He actually specializes in RC Paragliders see this link to get an idea really impressive the performance he gets from his glider there are a few clips linked to his paragliders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd1p77F0NGw The second clip shows him doing drops with his skydivers off his paraglider, all by himself!![8D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGTcLcsqdgw&feature=channel Regards Fanie

RE: World Record?
Yes, its my own diver, I started about 6 years ago, built my own firbreglass model, SAM 1 then evolved to our production version SAM 3. Mine does have some of the Paramax features but most of it was trial and error. I started with a chute from RC Skydive USA, but did not get the performance I wanted then started to develop my own canopies and Riaan and I teamed up togheter about 2 years ago when BOB aka Goldenknight reffered him to me when he enquired here on the forum for help. He produces the chutes and I do the divers. Our aim is to produce an affordable diver without compromising on quality and performance, seeing our currency is to weak to import from other countries overseas. Here is a picture of SAM 2 taken in 2007, I'll have more detail on my website, I dont want to give away to much here, spoil the surprise[:D]. Had a look on your website really nice, actually undestand the Dutch close to our Afrikaans[:)]

RE: World Record?
Hi Pieter, Is the diver your own design? I would love to come and attend the DM masters one year but the ZAR is weak against the Euro!! If any of you guys are interested to join us in SA for some fun in September, our spring month your more than welcome. Oudtshoorn my hometown hosts the biggest scale fly-in in South Africa, about 150 pilots and about 290 scale planes, big small we have them all. Its a relaxed event so all welcome, many tourist attraction to see for the family, world famous Cango Caves, Ostrich Show Farms, Cango Wildlife Ranch where they breed Cheetah's, White Bengal Tigre's as well as crocodiles and some great Wine estates to mention but a few. Oudtshoorn is a tourist town so accommodation is in abundance and we can organize a package to suit your pocket. Just as a matter of interest our twin town in the Nederland is Alphen aan den Rijn. I include a pic of my diver, will have our website up soon.

RE: World Record?
Yes tell me about it, I also tried to get permission for a porter like the one in their Red Bull hangar, but was declined. I was approached by one of their people a year later when they saw a video clip of my diver on the internet, that was just luck, thats where I got the permission for the colour scheme, but thats where it ended. If your not a super/extreme athlete your out of luck to get anything out of them. Sad but true. Good looking diver, looks like one of Theo chutes?
ORIGINAL: pieter He Riaan, i love that red bull skydiving suite your jumper is wearing. where did you have that made......... or how can i get one incl parachute bag... Pieter
Hi Pieter, The Red Bull diver is my custom creation, but unfortunatly we are not allowed to sell it like that, I was working with permission from a Red Bull representative to do that scheme. The only agreement was I can do demo jumps with it only, but not allowed to re-sell the scheme. All the paints used was the actual Red Bull official colours used in the automotive industry, I can do you any other kind of colour scheme, you can PM me and then we can see what we can do for you. RE: World Record?
I did a demo with my RC Skydiver at a RC Airshow in November 2009. There were real skydivers also doing demo jumps, the one guy saw my diver and wanted to take it up and do a jump with it, immediately the issue of it needing to be switched on came up!! He promised he would not forget as he does demo/flag/stadium jumps for a living!! My diver, Skydiver SAM, hitched a ride in his flag bag. I’m glad to report it work perfectly!! He went up in a microlight, jumped, did his freefall, opened his canopy, released my diver, it freefalled, I deployed my canopy, he then did a spiral down to fly right beside my canopy so I imitated all his moves with mine! He swooped in and landed right beside me, I then followed with my version of a swoop and landed right at our feet!! Here is a link to the photos if my upload doesn’t work still awaiting the video: http://microlighters.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11632&sid=75256dbcda40684f188f410244e450e3 Enjoy!!

RE: World Record?
Thanks for the research and photos Lundy, well we'll have to see if we can top that at our event in September/October this year!! WOW I think 22 jumpers must have been a great sight. Can you perhaps remember how many planes were used? We did 6 jumers at once last year, the number of divers has grown and is still growing here in South Africa. Our website will be up soon so watch this space! Bob I have to agree, even enlarging the photo doesn't give it justice, I think one had to be there in person to get the whole experience[:D]!!
