RE: engine conversion help
Search this forum for your engine. Not to many of us have done a 34cc.Most people do the 42cc,as they are the same size, weight, but more power.

RE: rare 50 cc engine
Sachs Dolmar,3.2,orange case,if it is one ring it is a model 115,chain saw.I have one. What was the name of the engine company that used sachs engines. They went out of buisness years ago. The engine size was a 52cc.I have 2 of them i can not remember the name. They where kinda known for there crankshaft problems. That is why we put different cranks in them.they where silver machined case. But looks like a Ralph conversion for sure.

RE: converting zenoha 23 to electronic ignition
Heres pic of my echo 24cc. Basiclly the same size, ect as the zenoah.A clone. Make yours look like mine. You can drill out the center of your flywheel with a hole saw, then just attach a prop hub, screwed onto the threads. Theres lot of pics, and descriptions here in this forum. Look up the thread entitled,(dont forget echo). Its a long one,so just weed through the pics and descriptions. It will take up less of your time. Anymore questions, just ask here,we all will help when we can.

Its full crank, weighs 5.25 lbs. The nice thing about it is i can go get a new piston and jug for a 68cc for $99.00, and just swap it out. Wich is what ill probably do and then sell it to my son for what i have into it for his 1/3 scale DVIII. Its a scratch built from Bill Wendt plans.104 inch WS. Hmmmmm, maybe to small.

Yes,badly. I even tried to sell a Husky, completely converted, the only thing it needed was the hall sensor. I even had the mount made up.Just install the sensor.61cc. Asked me if the ign was included.I said no,and never heard from him again. I lowered the engine to 69.00 dollars for him.

RE: Zenoah GT-80 Twin Question
truckracer. I havent flown mine yet.I bought it from a guy at my field. He had it put all together and covered but his Robart hinge points where crooked and the gaps where to wide. So dismantled and am now putting it back together. Bought the Gt-80 for $250.00.Guy prop striked it and thought he bent the crank.. After looking at it.He only bent the 2 bolts that hold the mag on.My lucky day. This is new, only about a gallon through it. Anyway, got to fix it.My dog had puppys and chewed the canopy and turtle deck. Know where i could get a new canopy by chance?

RE: Zenoah GT-80 Twin Question
Ill take my ch ignition off from my other engine and see what they measure if nobody responds here shortly. And no,the ignition is not on another GT-80.(wish it was). OK,with my ch ign,the older model with the rubber boots and a ground wire the boot tips are 10.25 inches or 10-1/4. I then took 2 single,Rcexcl igns, with the metal boot, and put 1 on each plug. Now they are 10-1/2 to 10-3/4.The reason im giving a little bit is because i have to bend the tape measure over the intake manifold to get to the plug tips. You should be fine With your measurement. My engines cowl is 11.5 inside diameter. And it slides right over the GT-80 no problem. Its on a Lanier,1/3 Staudacher.

OK,thanks ill make a note of it.I probably wont mix the rudder anyway.Like you said, messes with crosswind landings, and my sons DVII didnt like crosswind landings either. Anyway,so i dont hijack the thread.I sold a stock ryobi, except i had a rcexcl ignition on it.Stock carb, exhaust, ect.Im at 3,000 feet,.i was easily getting 7000 with a 18x6 with a power point or a black MAS.Cant remember.I removed the head, put it in the head of lathe so the base flange was between the teeth. Then i rounded the cylinder down even with the exhaust flange.Ill have to go see if i sold it here and post a pic.

RE: Ryobi performance?
Thanks, its been and is still a lot of work. I remember your tripe when you got it and your little hot rod kioritz you put in it. The germans copied the sopwith tripe. The bad thing about sopwith was the flying wires. The first ones where to big and caused to much drag, they where round. Then they changed them to a flatter streamlined style. But the germans made there whole plane a little smaller, shorter wings, thinner wings, ect so they did away with the flying wires all together. Theres a way to mix in some aileron differential to over come this a little.Ill just have to look at my futaba book and see how its done.I forgot.

RE: Ryobi performance?
Ill have to find or take a few more. Then ill post. This time ill save them.Im putting pull-pull on rudder and elevater.Ill show a pic of my setup for the elevater. Im going with a quadra 35 because thats what the plane was desighned around.Mine bolted right n with no problem. If it flies ok ill leave it.If not,ill look for a 42,since it has the same mounting holes. Im also using sig koverall, dope, ect so its not a quick process. I also layed the aileron servos sideways in the wing so they dont show. The only thing thats shows is the rod. OK,heres some pics: 6 wings,6 ailerons. Removable tail, can also be adjusted for trim. Tail skid has a spring on it so it moves as a shock absorber, you can see the slice in the fuse. Aileron servo is mounted sideways so you dont see anything but the rod sticking out bottom of wing. Youll notice the axles have a elongated slot as there going to get a small elastic cord from the sewing section as a bungee cord shock system. Quadra 35. Display wood prop. One pic shows how close prop is to cowl. Setup for Pull/pull on elevater is a straight rod, then a piece(horn) soldered on to rod, then another small horn soldered on for rod to servo. My scheme is in the pic of plane. Its Raymond Cllishaws (Black Maria)====Maria means (wind). He was the top scoring Canadian Ace. He had 2 planes,1 with a single gun,and 1 with twin guns.He was the leader of the famous "Black Flight". I read somewhere that when Ricktofen was shot down, his fellow pilots where going after pilot Brown, and whomever was left. But in the distance they saw 4 Triplanes of the Black Flite, and ran. Anyway, enough of the history lesson. Enjoy the pics. Ya,its work, but theres only a couple in the USA that are flying.I know of one person in Texas that flies with the Dawn Patrol. His is also a Jerry Behrens scratch built.

RE: Ryobi performance?
My son and i put a Homelite 30cc on his DVII that we built. All WW1 airplanes, the prop was real close to the cowl. With the 30cc homy in it it still stuck out a little to far. I think about 1/2 an inch past the cowl.We had no problem with it going in the cowl because its so big and round. The ryobi would be too long unless you modified the firewall.Wich will be bad because thats where the front landing gear cross leg almost ends up. Check the plans.Even the short shaft would be too long i think as i have a long shaft for sale in the classifieds here on rcu,and i have a short shaft on my shelf yet. It had stock intake manifold, pitts side dump muffler, stock carb, mag ignition.I could hand start it on the 3rd flip every time. No mod to firewall, cowl or anything to fit. Running a zinger 18x10,7200 rpms about.Took off fine and flew most of the time around half throttle.I think my sons came out a little heavy.I asked Balsa USA if they would weigh the box and send me the lightes one because i was doing my own engine. They said they all weigh within a few ounces, because of there choice of woods.I doubt it. Anyway, very nice plane and combo. What do you mean by Zenoah 41?Maybe a US engines 41,quadra 42. A Quadra 35 up to a 41 would be killer.Im putting a quadra 35 in my 80 inch Jerry Behrens scratch built Sopwith Tripe.

RE: Echo 650 runs
Ralphbf, Theres quite a few posts in the gas engine forum about what happened. Dont know if there still there. But basiclly, Diabetes, poor vision. Ordered a bunch of echo parts, got ripped off i believe. Then he was suppose to build more engines, ect for people but couldnt. i dont know if they ever got there money back, but he filed for bankrupcy. His partner,Mark Brill, was making some aftermarket parts for the conversion engines under the same name basiclly but i havent been to his site in a year. The last time i talked to Scott i ordered some carb rebuild kits he had for sale and after that i never heard from him again. I traded him 2> 33cc poulans for 1>42 cc becuase he wanted to se how the 33cc poulans compared to the ryobi, but never heard back.

RE: Aircraft International gone?
Heli-coils are expensive since your buying just one at a time. I make my own because i have a lathe. If you dont have a lathe, seeif a friend does or knows someone. You could do one without one but its a little harder. Anyway, heres how. Drill and tap your hole to the next biggest size. Buy a soft bolt[#3] to match your threads you just did. Drill the bolt out to the proper size to tap to the original size of your bolt. Then tap your bolt, cut a screwdriver slot in the part you just tapped with a hacksaw. then cut off head of bolt and install with locktite. The reason i do this is because after youve spent $23-$32 dollars for your kit[wich only does one bolt]your left with parts and nothing to use them for.Remeber, the kit only has 1 heli-coil in it.

RE: 1/2 Scale Sopwith Tripehound
Interesting thread.Im restoring a Jerry Behrens 1/4 scale sopwith tripe also.Have the windsock data file from Proctor. Also have 2 antics built in 1972 im restoring also.Well, ones flying. The 84 inch. My wings are also square box spars. This uses 3/8ths ;ply as shall we say wing tubes.Although there square.Using a stock Q35 as desighned. Made a 6 bolt prop hub to look cool. Ill have to take a pic of my prop, laminated and varnished.Bought it from the UK. I did mine with cloth from Sig.Im using pull-pull on elevators and rudder. My skid has a spring mounted to it for the cushioning. My landing gear have the slot in the side piece so i can use small bungee cord as the shock absorbors.Found some very nice looking stuff at the sewing section at wmart. Anyway, great job,ill have to check back.Mines mostly covered now.

RE: engine parts
The problem is Ebay. There are a lot of people going around to saw shops, picking up the saws, then reselling on ebay. Not that this is a problem, but they are making some good money. I can buy a brand new saw, strip it for our use. Then sell the parts on the bay and make 3 times my money back. And still have a brand new engine. Stihl and Husky want about $100 for a new recoil. And you have a whole saw. There was a lady from the south a while back selling saws. She even said in the ad she couldnt start them, she couldnt tell what was wrong with them, they where being sold as is.She said she didnt even know how to check if it had compression. But she was making money from her home. The saw shops just want to make sure you cant make any moneu because they cant put there used stuff on peoples equipment under warranty issues. I talked to a Husky dealer and he said any warranty must be OEM,or he will lose his license and dealership.NO Exceptions to the rules.

RE: Zenoah GT80 Help!
I have a GT-80 but have never had it apart. What i would is to take both case halves, join them together. With crank installed, with out jugs. Then see how much endplay you have. That will tell you whether you need the shim or not. My GT-80 has maybe 3- 8 thounsandths of end play.It doesnt even have 2 gallons through it yet. Most engines should have about 0-3 just for expansion.Call horizon and ask about the shim and endplay to make sure.

I had one of those once.Too much shaft sticking out front will eventally vibrate and make the end runout. The crank is soft out there if i remember right. What will happen is the long end on the front of the shaft will begin to get oblong or egg shaped. I sold mine but i think a few others have just cut the shaft and rethread it.

RE: Echo 50cc Short Block Conversion - Seeking Advice
@lewdfinger: What i do to taper the hub is i take a 3/8ths drill bit,or what is close to the crank diameter. Then i hold it at an angle against my grinder and put a taper on the bit that matches the crank taper. Then i chuck the hub stock in my 3 jaw chuck.Use the tail stock with the drill chuck attachment. Use slow speed and drill this out. Just to about the depth i need. then i thread it. Then i use an old crank ive made up as a mandrill, then i turn my hub down. Most of my hubs come out at .0015 and less. One i had only had 1/2 of .001.
