RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
the problem with the header bolts coming loose is an easy fix. use longer bolts that pass thur the header and back them up with nuts. the nuts will be very close to the brake pad. but it will not rub.

the one thing i like to do is. store my cars with the wheels off the ground. it relaxs the shocks and keeps the tires from getting flat spots.

RE: t maxx trans problem
hey mercedes i don`t know. i only spilt the trans halfs and looked for stripped gears and bent shafts. the clutch in there springs back and forward fine and it was shifting fine between first and second and rev before this happened. i got my maxx used for 100$ and it only needed an engine. i do have a LHS that pretty good with maxxs so i guess i`ll take it there. this was the first time i took the trans apart. so it all new to me what goes on in there. i know the savage trans by heart. t maxx trans problem
hey guys i hope you can help me out. last night i was running my t maxx with an os 18 engine. all was going well until i flipped the truck on its lid. i went over and flipped it back. the truck went about 20 ft and then just revved up and won`t move. as i walked up to the truck i thought i stripped a spur gear. not no. its fine. it`s something it the trans. i pulled the trans apart and i can`t see anything wrong in there. no stripped gears or bent shafts. i don`t know whats wrong. i think it might be the clutch in the trans. anybody know whats wrong? i got the stock 2 speed with rev trans.

hey danju i have the pro kit. but i don`t do any upgrades until something breaks. i wait until i find a weak point or parts that wear out fast and go from there. i did see the stock tires don`t like street use. mine are wearing very quick from breakin it in on street. so i put on street tires to break it in.

RE: Just ordered an MT2 18SS kit
hi. i got that kit last year with the hpi 18ss engine. i like the truck very much. i keep a log on how much fuel i run thur every nitro car and truck i got. to date i got about 200 tanks of fuel thur the 18ss engine and its still running great. i do have the 3.0 engine in my firestorm and both those engines make about the same power. to me anyway. the only things i found wrong with the mt2 18ss is the steering knuckes. they break very easy. i hit a curb VERY EASY and they broke. maybe my servo saver was set to tight but i went over to the upgraded alum ones and never had a problem after that. i did shim up the diffs in mine beacuse i had alot play in the drive cups. the stock tires do were out fast. i got about gallon on them and then had to replace them. the exh header screws come loose all the time. but i put longer screws and back them up with nuts on the other side and never had problem after that. but other than that. this truck is way fun to drive

hey tom i have been keeping up with your posts here and see you got hold of the linkage problem. sorry i can`t take any pictures like the other guy did. but now you know how to do adjust linkages. check on hpi web site. they might have something on how to install clutch springs and shoes. or just look on how the old ones come off. but be careful. those clutch springs like to go south as you try to install them. i must have a bunch behind my work bench. LOL

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
ok tom relax. what i`m saying is. the linkage on the carb is not closing the carb all the way and holding it open. not letting the carb to go back to idle. the linkage that hooks to the carb is holding the carb open not allowing you to adjust the idle. what you do is. without the car running. remove the air filter again. i know a pain in the a@#. and look as you work the radio. the carb should close off to the 1mm opening. if not the linkage is holding the carb open and turning the idle screw doesn`t do anything. you want the ilde screw to rest on the barrel of the carb. so when you turn the idle screw you see the carb opening and closing as you turn the idle screw. got it now???? do you have the manual??? you can check in there in the back of the manual. it tells you how to adjust the linkages for brake and gas.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
hey tom if you think its flooded. remove the glow plug and pull the starter cord. you should see fuel come out. check the plug at the same time. glow plugs do burn out when breakin in an engine. you lean out the low speed needle???? you shouldn`t touch the low speed needle until you adjust the hi speed needle first. you only adjust the low speed needle if the car doesn`t take off nice . like i said. i didn`t touch my low speed needle. when you say you can`t turn down the idle. make sure you you turn the idle screw and you see the carb opening and closing. if not you need adjust the trim and or the linkage on the carb. you want the idle screw to rest on the barrel of the carb. you loosen the slipper clutch at the spur gear. what you do is tighten it down and back off 1/2 turn.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
yep!!! thats about it. be careful not to lean out to much. you`ll know when you lean out to much it will bog out at WOT. make sure the engine is up to temps when you tune and tune with about a 1/2 tank of fuel.
