RE: TD .049 mount
I've no idea who made this either but I have been pondering of late how to make something just like this. I have seen some cool old sheet metal mounts for older beam mount 049s and thought the same could be done for the TeeDees. I had not thought of angling the beams as this has done. Robert

I'd see things like a control line PT-19, F-15, P-40, Stuka, P-51 then, would see an .049 powered Airboat in the lake and even a .049 power pod on an RC glider. Tee Bee, that is a great story. Thanks for sharing that. Looks like you have good taste in field boxes too! Yours looks like the top half of my set. Mine doesn't have any cool stickers on it yet. I need to get some. A nice big Cox logo or a POWERED BY COX or something. I think an ACE R/C and SIG should be there as well. Wen Mac and Norvel deserve a place. I should write to Sig as they are the only survivor of the names I mentioned. They might have one I could get. Robert

Here is what we are dealing with. I am guessing there was not enough R and D done on this engine before it was thrown together as a whole unit with the car. I have no idea if this engine is a proven design or what. Robert

RE: Need some expert help cox style motor
This could be a tough one to fix. First, there could be quality control issues. Have all these newly built engines from china been taken apart and checked for visual problems like sluff or just plain poor workmanship? Secondly I wonder if this is a new design or is it a reverse engineered copy of the original Cox engine? The Cox engine worked so well because of the tiny tolerances in machine work. Also beware of shortcuts by the mfg. to keep costs down. Cox, Even with their high quality control and tolerances there can be problems like air leaks at the needle valve for example. Using Straight castor oil for the lube in the fuel might be helpful. Would you consider letting a couple of the engine gurus here try a few each and let them try to figure out what the problem might be? Just a asuggestion. Robert

Small but significant update and a picture as well. In another thread in another forum some one had inqured about a a 34" wingspan FF model called "Scot Free" See picture for box art. Also Monarch kitted a couple of non scale type control line models, "Sweet Chariot" and "Vitamin 1/2A" . I am hoping the mention of these might trigger a memory or two for you fellas. It will be interesting to find out what other models Monarch produced and also the experience of those who may have owned them. Robert

RE: Help! Looking for info for Monarch Model Aircraft Co. Inc.
Bruce, Wm and James, thanks for the replies guys. The kit that I have is incomplete but what I do have is great quality. The wood is medium grade and blemish free. Not at all heavy and hard like so many kits we all had in the past. The die cutting in this kit looks like it was the first run. These blades were sharp! Makes me believe that this was either a very early production or that they made so few that the blades never dulled. The decals and canopy would be as new condition with no cracking or fading and only a slight bit of yellowing. All of the most crucial parts are present. Missing are: Fin, rudder, elevator, elevator horn, tailwheel, tailwheel gear, pushrod, bellcrank hardware (bolt, washers and nut), exhaust detail and possibly spinner. The main landing gear is prebent and not a speck of rust. A key part! Plan does not show full size outlines of the ship. My copy is pretty cruddy and just about to let go at every fold. The assembly notes have nearly been destroyed with age and big splotches of gold dope. Only the first paragraph is readable. Quote: "put OK Cub .049 in it because I did not know better. Never did get it to fly. " The P-40 has a 20 inch span and suggests .045-.099 for power. This is a "hollow log" type kit but has much thicker sides than a Scientific kit for instance. The wing panels are also solid and half inch thick at the root and quarter inch thick at the tip. Very beefy. Completed, It is hard to imagine any 049 being able to do any more than taxi this thing about. Well, maybe a good TeeDee Cox might get it airborne. I am surprised at how little is known about this brand of kit. I wonder what other kits were offered besides the Spitfire and P-40. Could be these are so rare that there are not enough collectors to make it valuable if that makes sense! Keep the details comming guys. This may be the only chance to document these things for future modelers. Robert

Fishing in the dark? Almost certain. This one probably has no idea of it's real worth (or make apparantly) and has put an exhorbitant asking price for a base and will most likely sell it for a pittance of this. This way he will have a sort of bidding take place and will sell these for the most he has been offered, therfore gaining its highest selling price without an actual auction. All in all not a bad tactic if one has no clue to what he or she is trying to sell. By the way it definitly looks like all Wen-Mac to me. Robert

RE: Simple Saber Control line trainer plan
Actually, I was just trying to have a little fun with you mike. [:D] I am sure this is the same plane with a few minor changes in the plan. At a glance the planes looks identical but as you can see on the plan I have the first 'S' stsmds for Simple not Super and in the legend (box at the bottom with all the writing in it) the wingspan is listed as 18". This plan was a pull out plan in one of the model magazines, not sure which one right now. These full size pull out plans won't be found in the regular plan groups and have no plan number nor can they be ordered from the plan services as you would with one of the reduced plans. The only way one can have one of these plans is to find which issue of which magazine and hope to find an old copy of which the plan has not been removed. Mike, thank you for letting me have a little fun with this and no hard feelings friend. I wish I had a copy like yours! Robert

RE: PeeWee .020 help
Really nice looking plane! The way I read your posts, it is flying just above stall speed. Basically you need to do at least one of two things or better yet both. One is to lower the stall speed. To do this the plane needs to be lighter. The second thing you can do is get more power, or speed. Changing the props may help but the Pee Wees are not super power houses but should be able to fly this plane if it were lighter. Consider putting a pair of TeeDees .020s? The all up weight of 22 ounces is not much help for you with the wing area you have. It is hard to put a small plane on a diet once built and covered. What size and how much does the on board battery weigh? You might be able to save some considerable weight there. Seems like you need a few more revs. I read that the fuel is fresh and 25% nitro but how much of the oil is castor? The 3 inch pitch on the other props will get you more speed which you need. Robert
