RE: Zlin Z-50 recieved
I don't know what is on these silver painted canopys, but I have tried lacquer thinner and paint remover, neither will touch it."I don't beleive it myself".I have some brake fluid in the basement,I will try that tomorrow.I also tried spraying clear inside thinking maybe it was sand blasted,no luck there either.ALSO no response from NITRO either ! It seems to be a real crap shoot dealing with these people. They are a one shot store,if you get it "right" in the box,its a good deal, but if there is a problem, your stuck !

Zlin 50 canopy
I received my Zlin 50 a couple of days ago,it came with a silver canopy and I hate it.All the ones I have seen have a clear one, including the picture on my box.I have written to Nitro twice with no respond.I even ordered a pilot with this as I was planning to detail the interior.I never would have ordered this plane if I was aware of this.I simply requested a clear canopy, but they apparently are waiting for me to just go away. Not good !

RE: Zlin Z-50 recieved
Hi Speedie, I am still tryihg,I know mineral spirits or lacquer thinner won't cut it.Don't know where to go from there,Anything stronger than lacqur thinner I fear will damage the plastic.STILL ! no reply from Nitro,NOT good !

RE: Zlin Z-50 recieved
Just got my Zlin 50, all looks ok except the canopy has been sprayed silver inside, I bought a pilot with this kit.Question, How will he see where he is going? Seriously, I wanted to detail the interior.I emailed Nitro twice about getting a clear one ,no answer yet.If this is a updated change by them,Just thought all should know, may not be to your liking .None of the pictures I saw have this ,all are clear. This silver makes it look very cheap !

RE: Planes That Deserve A Comeback.....
I think Tower (Great Planes) still owns the rights to Andrews kits. They only carried on a few names.I was also told last year by a fellow RC'r That Lou Andrews is still alive but unfortunatly blind somewhere in New Hampshire.Sure would be nice to sit and talk with him if what I was told is accurate.I have a Trainermaster kit still. That H- Ray was the trainer of choice, flew great and was very tough. I would like to see the Curare pattern plane brought back. Also a good 60 size Stearman.

RE: J3 Piper Cub giant out there?
I went with World models. I actually found one at a hobby shop 1/2 hour from me.I called Airborne and got the info from them.It looks real nice out of the box,gear/wheels not bad but I think I will still spring for the good ones.Plan to "do it up" a little.

RE: J3 Piper Cub giant out there?
I like that World Models 1/5 scale MIMORE67 posted here.84" W/S falls right in,going to check that out and try to find one. Also I agree they all need the better gear and wheels.Actually I have a world T-34 I flew last fall, was all ok for a cheap ARF,flys good.Couple more years I'll have all the time in the world to build, stocking some kits for that now. Thanks guys.

J3 Piper Cub giant out there?
I have been looking for quite a while now for a ARF cub in the 85-90" WS range.I have a Saito 100 twin to use in it. The one's I am aware of I think are too small or too large.Does anyone know of some not largely advertised out there?I am considering Great planes kit,but right now my time is very limited to build. Thanks

RE: 1/4 scale Cub builders
Hi Guys, Glad I read this ,got some great tips. Any one with pro's/con's about the Great Planes kitted J3 cub 90" model. I thought this would be perfect for the Saito 100T I already have. I don't have much time to build, but I havn't seen a ARF yet that does this airplane justice.J3 was the first airplane ride for me back in early 50's.Still remember it well,$1.50 a ride.

Searching for a NICE J3 cub ARF or ?
Any one out there know of a company making a nice J3 cub in the 90" W/S range? I am familiar with the name brands,GP, horizon,Goldberg etc. What I have (nearly two years now) is a Saito flat twin 1.0 .I have it on a Tiger moth, just doesnt look right.Going to take it off and sell the Moth.I think a J3 is the only one for this engine. The ones I found are too cheesy built or too small or too big.I think a 90" would be about right.I remember seeing one or more in photo's,maybe scratch built which is not for me. Thanks in advance. John

RE: Saito 100 flat twin fueling system
I thought of a third line,I was hoping there was a external method.I will have to purchase a new fuel tank. The tank in the plane came installed and will not accept three lines.Odd shape tank also. Thanks for the input Guys.

Saito 100 flat twin fueling system
I have a new Saito 100 T I have installed on a biplane which is cowled. The set up I have at this time is a fuel dot in the carb line before the Y connector to the carbs, with a pressure line only to the right exhaust tube. The problem is,when filling the tank lots of fuel shoots out the carbs.I would be most appreciative if someone would tell me of a fueling system,(I'm sure there is one out there)that will work for this application.I called Horizon, they had no solution.(I'm back in R/C after 20 year absence, learning many new things, was much simpler in the 70's...This new stuff is great once one figures it out. Thanks, John

RE: Help me plan a club Fun Fly! Please!
Many years ago , when I was active in fun flys and contests I remember two in particular, one was the limbo.you only need two tall poles about 8-9 feet approx. 12-15 feet apart with a rope and pulley on each.Between the poles and connected to the rope (at the pully) a stream of crepe paper.Start at the top and lower at one foot increments, surviver wins .BUT the favorite of mine by far was RENO DICE simple but fun,Need a glass pickle jar, two dice, and a stop watch and time keeper person.Contestant needs a pit man.Start...Contestant go's to flight line with helper and time keeper, names a stunt (loops or rolls etc.)next shake dice in the jar,has to do the amount of stunts dice show, next start engine, time starts when plane is airborne,do the number of stunts, land the airplane, pilot then has to touch the airplane wherever it lands, then return to the dice jar and shake the same amount on dice he rolled originally, time stops when the same number is rolled.. RE: YS engine problems
Thanks guys, those sites especially were helpful.I did not receive much with this engine only a pamphlet with engine breakdown on one side and a brief setup on the other.I will get back on it in a couple of days(I hope).I am using Cool power 15%,and a OS f plug, I think I read somewhere they (YS) recommended it.I tried Robarts fuel filler, and went to fuel dots, they seemed to do the trick for fuel lines. This is more than likely mis tuned by the previous owner.I believe I will have to start from scratch. I am not upset with YS,I also think they are exceptional or I wouldn't have bought it.I remember a old saying ignorance is bliss, but at 63 I'm not so sure. Thanks again John

YS engine problems
I'm sure its me, but I cant keep this thing running. This is reference to my YS fz-91.I bought it used here on RCU ,and bench ran it.It ran great on the bench, not so in the plane. After many changes and attempts with the fuel supply lines I am pretty sure I have it correct now.But it wont stay running.Goes from a lean sounding idle, when speeding up a little,it explodes power and quits.I checked the lines, klunk etc.I have read various reports of these engines being very tempermental, unfortunately I dont have the time to waist, been at this off/ on before Christmas.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.Already thought changing to another brand, but I like the power I think this will produce. Thanks

RE: Large Shipping box
Guy's , you can usually find a large box at your neighborhood auto body shop,I know because I own one,The boxes that housed front bumper covers, headers, etc. are generally large enough for most wings and if it was a American part the box will be quite sturdy and sometimes contains supports you can use inside .We usually just throw them away.Hope that helped . Idea for RCU
I have been looking all over for a sunshade visor cap.The kind that is transparent on the visor.I have seen some on ebay that cover the whole face (overkill).I think we RC'ers need one with approx. 4 or5 inch visor.Everyone sells or gives hats/caps,I have a drawer full.Way too hot here for a full cap, need a open top.It would be perfect for someone who wears glasses,(me)or anyone..I would think it would be a good sales item in the RCU store. RE: Why call it moneykote?
One good feature about monocoat is it converts into a plastic bag should you drill the $60 airplane, the $400 radio, and the $100 engine into mother earth (makes it easier to carry).

RE: Radio's Old vs. New
Thanks guys, I needed some encouragement right now, much has changed since 1980 ,and I was a little (little?) confused.Think I will take some of the recommendations posted here.Going to replace the other two servo's,and take the decathlon out for a spin.Have a dc 3, 60 twin, and will get one of the recomended radio's for it.I can hear you, lol---near the end of my R/C activity around 1980 or so I was flying a Royal f4 phantom with a ops 60.So I'm hoping the old saying of getting on a bicycle applies.Decathlon should'nt be too rough. Thanks again, John

Radio's Old vs. New
I have read much here on the topic of radio frequencys and/or performance.I am attempting to re-enter the R/C world after about 23 years absence.I have tried two new radio's so far,Airtronics 6000.had battery problems, sold it(noting the problems to the buyer). Now a Futaba 6x or something like that, two servo's went bad so far, replaced with hi-tec,but I'm still afraid to fly "not trusting" it.So I considered buying an old Kraft or pro-line and paying the price to upgrade, only to be discouraged here reading all the information. So guys, who makes a reliable, work right out of the box system?Without spending $1000. Thanks John Oh, for what its worth,Kraft in the late 70's went to complete plug in modules for frequency changes, while Futaba had only crystals. What did Kraft know that futaba didn't.(or didn't care so they could sell cheaper).[:o]
