RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
I have been using Blue thunder 30% in my O.S CVR and I am running a bit low on fuel. Can I run O'Donnell 20% and just retune or do need to rebreakin the motor with 20%. Or should i just stick with 30% fuels? Thanks

All you basically need to do is take the top deck off then you will be able to put some lock tite on the nut ant tighten it. I gained all my R/C knowledge from this forum just read the past 50 pages or so and you will learn a lot.
ORIGINAL: nitro-rob Standback - wilecoyote already addressed this after you asked twice. This is covered several times in the forum, almost every five pages on average. The forum is here to handle new questions as well as provide a history of questions and technical issues to look back on. I am not trying to sound snotty here but there is 195 pages of documented questions here at your disposal - if you want our insight please take the time to read back as well. There are no standard instructions for tightening the servo saver - you know where the nut is so just clear things out of the way until you can reach the nut Then put loctite on it.
I finally got around to re-assembling my front diff it spins so smooth now(there is no longer that tight gear feeling). I am thinking of replacing my rear diff too [8|]and putting fresh oil, bearing, and gears but I don't have money now. I am also putting a axial .28 w. a 17 tooth bell.[sm=lol.gif] does anyone have any tips on running or installing the motor. also what are the crab restrictions for? thanks

I just bought an axial .28, a savage 3 shoe clutch, and a axial 17 tooth clutch bell. Is 17 too high to do a wheelie or should I have gotten a 16. I have Pro-line Big-joe tires if it makes any difference. thanks

Your brake pad should last at least 1/2 gallon I am on my 2nd gallon and it's still good. Is your brake dragging or set too tight ?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
I took my Storm out today for the first time in at least a month and i forgot how much fun this thing was!! It took me about a quarter tank to get a good tune on it (never reached above 222)!! But I have a slight problem if i idle it for about 10 seconds then punch the throttle it sounds like it hesitates for a few seconds or so then launches off into a Block long wheelie. (I have a O.S. CVR) I am pretty sure it has to do with the low speed either to rich or to lean . How do I accurately tune the low-speed ? I am running Blue thunder 30% sport with o Donnell medium cold plug. (temps outside are in the 80's) thanks
ORIGINAL: hollow_point hey where do u guys order replacement tires for these trucks? or are there any other specific brands/makes that are better? my rear ones are shot and i would need something similar. on a good note, i tuned my truck today, and as a result, my rear tires are now done<img src=''http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/regular_smile.gif'' alt='''' />. they are basically slicks. night and day now with this thing. way more punchy and im not having the problem where when i would brake the engine would die. the idle is much more stable now and it makes very good temps. i did about 10 wheelies in front of my house today. my rear wing was acting as a wheelie bar, lol. cant wait till my actual wheelie bar gets here, especially now. the acceleration is much better, and its a lot smoother at high speeds. couldnt beleive the difference this made
It really all depends on what surface you are mostly running your car if you want more ground clearance or if you want it to be closer to the ground. I have these tires and they are a great all-terrain. you will definetly get more traction than those stock tires. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEXA3&P=ML on these wheels http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWX57&P=7 dont forget glue http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFHY1&P=7

How do you check to see if the diffs have oil? Remove and disasemble them?
ORIGINAL: ALFFA164 Have you checked if the diffs has some oil? My diffs came completely dry (a few years ago) and thats te way they were coming out of the factory. Have you also checked for bearings? If depends on how you "feel the gears", if your bearing got wet and you didnt clean them afterwards, then it would be worth to check if they move freely. Spin one tire forward and the other backwards, then hold one tire and spin the other in both ways, then repeat the same for the other tire. Then spin both tires forward and then backwards... if you "feel the gears" in every test then it is the diffs for sure. Its a pain to take out the diffs but i think you might have to do that. Get back to us with your report.
I am have issues with the tuning thou. Anyone help me out. thanks Firestorm2009.
First and foremost warm up the truck by doing some medium speed passes (only tune when engine is hot) If you invest in a Inferred temperature gun (about $20 on www.towerhobbies.com) your engine should be around 220-250. if it is too hot richen it by just a small amount and run the truck for a minute or so and check again if it is too cold lean it by just small amount. Also consult the Firestorm Manuel http://www.hpiracing.com/manuals/pdf/10510.pdf link to temp gun http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEMG5&P=7

Hey guys I got a question here... I have the CVR (Its awesome) and in the Manuel it says to not use fuel with less then 18% oil but fuel like o Donnell race blend (which i use ) does not state how much oil it has it it safe to use? Also Trinity Platinum, Monster horse power, and Monster brew have 8% for platinum, 12% for monster, and 16% for Monster brew. I have heard these are good fuels but I dont want to ruin my engines? what fuels do you guys recommend?
ORIGINAL: nitro-rob Did you use the red stuff? What kind of tools are you using? I don't recommend using the tools that come with the truck for that stuff. Normally the solution is to use a dremel to cut slots in the bolt heads to allow a flat head screwdriver to be used. The lack of space afforded by the bolts being sunk in the head won't let you do that. A solution is to grind or drill the bolt tops off, remove the head and expose the top of what is left of the bolts. Cut a slot with a dremel and use a screwdriver.
I used loctite that my dad had its called "Aircraft Quality Medium strength". And the tools just a set of ordinary allen wrenches. I will attempt this project after school tomorrow and tell you how it goes.
