Homelite 25cc
I just got a free 25cc homelite weedwhipper engine. I want to build some sort of rc car, and I want to raise the compression and grind out the exhaust bridge. I need a centrifugal clutch, and I want to raise the copression ratio and reach some higher rpms. Where can I get a piston ring kit and the centrifugal clutch? Anything else I should do to get the most I can out of this little gasser? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

you could have just tightened the slipper... and the slipper is there to give you better traction and protect the tranny, drilling a hole trough it renders it useless

RE: savage x
AND i have put five gallons through my mgt 3.0. the only reason why im dumping that little truck, is because ae is slowly discontinuing, so the savage is my replacement for it. but the thing that gets me, is my mgt always ran better in the cold, with around the same temps. i always wrapped the head with a sock, but after some messed up backflips off a snowbank into deep snow, the sock deffinately gets a little wet... now, five gallons later, maybe a gallon of it in the winter (i broke it in in the summer, but it was a fairly crappy break in cause it was my first rc), it runs strong. i just wanted something a little bigger, faster, and with the assurance i can get some parts if and when something breaks. btw, i always ran richer in the winter. my buggy, (xtm xt2) however, doesnt run so good in the cold, so i let that one sit. the xtm 247 is a very cool running motor in the first place, so the engine temps on it drive like crazy. i think it depends on what kind of motor it is, the 3.0 was a very hot motor, and the 247 is a very cool motor

That make two new Savages in your area that will need new engines come spring. RE: winter break in?
yes, i know how to break in a nitro engine, thanks for asking. i wasnt asking for a full fledged explanation on "how-to" and what it does, i just needed to know if a winter break in is ok. and on my past nitros that i run in the winter, they run at the same temps as in the summer and i usually run them a little richer. there is no way im going to run 3-4 tanks in the garage, what can i do, idle it on the block??? when people talking about the engine having a shorter life when you run it in the winter, they usually meant if snow comes into contact with the crankcase, wich can sometimes, but rarely, cause a rapid temperature change that can damage the engine. i was planning on heating the engine block before i start, and during cool down between tanks as well. i use traxxas 20% fuel, which is just soupy with oils, and has proven to be the best break in fuel, i have ran my past nitros for the first gallon or so on traxxas fuel to break it in btw, your explanation on the 5 cell pack doesnt make any sence, they radio doesnt affect the roto-start... a 5 cell would have a hard time turning over the engine anyway

i would say nitro, and i own both, an electric and three nitros... i like nitro's cause they are cheaper, and i just like the mini engine and tinkering part... i like electrics cause they are quick to run, but i dont like how finicky lipo's can be, and for brushless to be faster, you have to spend quite a bit more than nitro's to reach the same speed. dont get me wrong, brushless is quite a bit faster! imo, nitro is the way to go. i started on nitro, and without any help, i didnt have very many troubles. only things causing me problems were laziness [:)] but i guess thats what i get from taking apart and fixing up old small engines when i was young!

winter break in?
I just got a savage x for christmas, and im pumped to get it broken in!! this is my third nitro btw, and i started two years ago. But to get started, i need to get a 6 cell pack and im set! but here's the thing, its cold where i am right now, and i was wondering if there is anything different i should do for breaking in the 4.6 in the winter? or is it worth just waiting till spring? some things i have heard is that its ok, just put a sock over the cooling head (to let the engine get to 200), to heat up the block before i start it, and to use a heated garage, and ive got all of that, minuse the 6 cell pack... any pointers?

From what i can see on all of this, the chemistry of the fuel is what holds this back. Superchargers work with gasoline because one pound of gas needs around 14 pounds of oxygen, while one pound of nitro fuel only needs around 2 pounds of air. to cram in a ton of air, you would also need a ton of fuel, and fuel doesnt exactly compress like oxygen does, and the nitromethane introduces oxygen on its own. to make supercharging work, you would need a low nitro percentage fuel, because methanol needs more oxygen than nitro methane and produces more energy than nitro methane, and a high-flow carb, and a short, narrow tuned pipe. Or at least thats just my opinion. Also, comparing nitro engines to snowmobile engines is a load of bs, just looking at the internals of a snowmobile and you know its different.

thats normal, but make sure you have a good battery in your ignitor. your engine is probably damaged from being seized.... i would recomend getting a new, better one from a brand name such as os. but even better, you should just get a good car. hsp is a chinese offbrand, and they are prone to failure. they are cheap for a reason... for starting out with nitro, i would recomend the team associated gt2, or the xtm x-cellerator, just the x-cellerator parts are hard to come by and you have to order them online at hobbypeople.net. the hpi firestorm is pretty good too best of luck to you!

have you checked the glow plug? thats a huge one! if its dead, or just not good, it needs to be replaced! if you take it off, hook up the glow ignitor to it, and you see a full glow, its ok. if its only partial or not at all, its dead

lol redfisher probably could, ive looked into planes since ive gotten into the hobby with cars i would say the shrink wrap, because it takes quite a crash to punctiure a lipo... and if you are pushing the battery hard, its nice to see whether its going to explode or not... ;)
