RE: Recent theft of Pattern airplanes and equipment
Sorry to hear about this. I had a similar experience but turned out my equipment was returned. I had not considered how great a loss I had until I began adding up for the insurance claim, my homeowners deductible is based upon a percentage of my home value and I would have only recovered 1/5 of the loss in my insurance claim. I hope the equipment is recovered and the theives are found and punished.

RE: would a carbon fiber rod be strong enough to hinge a removable rudder?
I have used a CF rid in robart hinge points on a bigger plane and it works, doesnt seem to wear, used wax as a lubricant; shear strength seems adequate for the load.

RE: Transmitter Tray in Pattern
Ive used one for a long time. Actually rebuilt/built a new one this year similar to one I saw on another site. I like this one real well but haven't had an official test drive of it yet, just simulator tryout of it. Made from masonite type pressboard I had laying around and painted, probably about $15 in parts and spray paint; if you have time.

RE: Blenderm
Have you tried putting masking tape down on the painted surface, to cut the blenderm against? I'm thinking mask tape so 1/16 inch is under blenderm then cut belenderm on top of mask tape, them peel mask from under the blenderm. I'm guessing you are trimming the blenderm by guiding your blade against the rudder edge and collecting gglue.

RE: AEROFLY 5 14MZ CALIBRATION PROBLEM
I went ahead and setup a new model in the 14MZ so no conditions. Initially I used the prompted setup for the transmitter, as it didn't setup correctly I went back to the drop down menu to redo the transmitter configuration and selected the calibrate and configure menu. First I moved the sticks to end of travel as directed, as that wasnt working I went to the servo monitor menu and used the travel test on the transmitter to calibrate the TX, this still didn't work. I also used the neutral test from the servo monitor menu on the 14MZ to set neutral. So Its acting like half the stick travel is missing. Whats the weirdest is that the Aerfly Deluxe program still works correctly. This is the upgrade version of the Aerofly 5 software, the dongle I have is a few years old. The dongle doesnt have a number on it that I can find.

AEROFLY 5 14MZ CALIBRATION PROBLEM
I just got Aerofly 5 and am trying to calibrate with my 14MZ. I am only getting half the stick travel, all sticks show movement from only one side of center. This transmitter is calibrated and works on my AFPD and the same computer. Any thoughts?

RE: Gaudius
I used 8611 for rudder, 8411 for aileron, and 3421sa for elevator, they are probably overkill but it isnt necessary to worry about the weight penalty with this plane and I already had the servos. I am using the metal geared version for rudder. I think 8231 would be adequate, I would use the faster servo. Or you could cut holes into the wing and surface mount the servos in trays and use the 9411.

RE: Hauler
I think 3 of the people around here have a Red Caravan, cant tell whos at the field when we drive up. A couple others have caravans also, total of 5 I think. I replaced an explorer with a Honda Pilot and like that solution but I have no kids to haul. But the pilot easily handles two pattern planes on a simple PVC rack, has a small trunk that holds transmitter and tools, room for tent, generator, charge box...and space left over if the wife goes along.

RE: Comp-arf Valiant..weight
My gram scale came with a calibration weight. My larger digital scale i used some steel that was close to 11'lb and weighed it at work on the calibrated scale there. If your scale is off a few grams and you are weighting a dozen parts maybe things aren't as bad as you think, or maybe they are worse;)

The loose Dubro arms can be tightened up by putting some stretchy plastic over the spline and squeeze the arm over. Works in a pinch anyway.
