RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi there everybody, OK, getting right to it. This is not easy for me to write. For a long time now Jay and I have been subjected to a lot of mean spirited and some downright evil e mails. This all started soon after we joined this forum in 2008. We've made all efforts to stem this problem and it continues. We've done all we can think of, i.e. changing e mail addresses more than once, limiting who we gave those addresses to and even having a computer expert try to track down where the e mails were originating from. He found that most of them could be traced back to participation on this forum. This doesn't mean it's members involved, but that our info is being gleaned from the site. Of recent (since our latest move to where we are) these e mails have gotten worse and more numerous. Back when we got married was another time of them increasing. We are now experiencing another "wave" of these malicious messages. It seems to have escalated this time beyond insulting our character, accusing us of lying about who we are and what we do, accusations of one person pretending to be both of us, etc. We've made attempts to handle this without bringing it up on the thread and this hasn't worked. We've done our best to ignore these low lifes and continue participating in the thread and forums but it has worn us out and is now at the point of dominating our mailboxes everyday. To add another level, some of the messages are becoming threats to our well being and our lives. We've discussed this at length and it is decided that we just can't continue this way. We will be withdrawing from the forum and changing all of our online info. It saddens us to think we must leave a group that we consider friends but with all we have to deal with at present we just do not need this too. I have spent hours in an evening trying to sort through e mails to find the ones we need. Quite frankly, neither of us has the time or the energy to do this anymore. So, with that said, We sadly bid goodbye to our little corner of the forum here that has become such a big part of our lives. We thank all of you for being good friends and hope all of you continue to stay healthy, happy and safe. Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hay hidee doodles all y'all, Golly gosh, have we ever been busy. This area is full of small villages all scattered around the jungle and lots of folks need tendin' to. They all live purty rough lives and get dinged up a lot. I'm glad to be here for awhile helpin' them out. so many of them are great people and we've made some real good friends of them. We're startin' to come back to the house and find little gifts and some real good food waitin' for us on the step. There's one lady here whose son we brought in once with a broken arm and she is convinced that Jay and I need a son. You know how that goes with some of those "mom" types. Anywho, we had a good chuckle the other day when she stopped by with a hand carved wooden figurine as a gift. She took me aside and told me it was a fertility god and would help us have a son. It was so much of a special moment I hugged her and thanked her for her kindness. I didn't have the heart to tell her that the baby thing isn't something Jay and I plan on and that it was taken care of surgically in Jay a long time ago. Jay got a good snicker out of it when I told him and then I got another laugh when he looked at me with fear in his eyes and asked if I'd changed my mind about kids. He really looked scairt and it was so funny. I told him I hadn't and he felt better. 'Sides, our lifestyle and ages aren't compatible with babies. I'm really, really enjoying my work here. It's a good feeling to do it and the flying, oh my, the flying. I haven't had this much fun for a long long time. It's so cool that Jay and I get to be a team. We get to be together and see each other do what we're good at. It's having a deepening effect on our relationship and creating memories that will last forever. I'm glad we did this 'rash' thing. My world has grown from it exponentially. Jay and I are speaking to each other in Portugese as much as we can on the flights so we can get practiced up. Apparently Jay really likes hearing me speak it. He gets all cuddly. Dirty ol' man anyway. I love it. We were out and about a little last night looking around town more and searching for a good place to try more local food when we came across a little park. There were some of the natives there sitting around strumming guitars, singing and sharing a couple bottles of some kind of homemade wine made from a wild plum that grows here. It was really good. We stuck around and got involved in a game of grass bowling (ninepins to you I think Matty). After a rousing game of that some of the youger guys started practicing their Kapueta to music. Wowsers, those boys can move. Lots of spinning and kicking. Fascinating stuff. "Fraid I would break something sensitive if I tried it. Hacky sack is popular here too with the kids. Some of them mix in the Kapueta with that and it's real fun to watch. My Daddy e mailed to tell us that the 500s were working their way through the customs hoops and headin' our way. He said he put in everything on our list and Mom added a few small things like some of her homemade hand lotion, some fudge (mmmm-love her fudge), some photos of Dad building the crate and of the family picnic they had since we left. Cool, things from home. Always welcome. Daddy remarked 'bout how heavy the box was and how much the freight to Peru was. Jay will reimburse him for that. He said it cost almost $275. Jay thinks that's a bargain. He once paid $1200 freight to get some parts out of France for his black beauty. We expect it to take about two weeks for the crate to work its way to us and we're anxious to get our little birds here. We want to show off for some of the people we work with and some of the locals. Well, shuckins. I gotta go. We just got dispatched out for a run up river. Seems there's a fella that took a header off his dirt bike up there and needs brought in for some bone settin'. I've 'bout yakked enough anyway. Ta ta toodles y'all. See ya real soon. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Love Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Helllooo everybody way up there on the top half of the planet[:D], K[X(], I have so much to tell y'all this may get kinda long and chatty[8|]. Our deal down here is sealed and I can tell y'all more 'bout what we've gotten ourselves into. We're in Peru. We're working out of a city called Tingo Maria located almost dead center of Peru. We've joined a contract company that's flying out to small villages along the Hullaga (hoologga) river, Ucayall (ookayall) river and the Mararion (marareoon) river. And, all the areas in between them. We're either flying out to give medical care to sick and injured on site or bringing some back to Tingo Maria for more serious care. Jay is one of four pilots in the group and I am working alongside two Peruvian doctors and one from the states. Our victims range from children to elderly adults. Some have been injured in some of the rebel fighting that goes on out in the bush. We'll rarely be in any hot areas, but, with the way things go in these countries one never knows. Our system is set up to mostly avoid that and we're just a service not part of the unrest. The choppers are owned by the Peruvian govt. and outfitted like military evacuation aircraft. Of course there are some guns mounted and manned on them. I used to think Jays old Black Beauty and Ames new chopper were big until I got near these. They're big and fast. Jay's finished his check out flights and took off about an hour ago on his first actual run to bring back a woman that's having a difficult birth of her baby, a fisherman with a badly infected leg injury and a guy that's suffering from heat related problems. I'm on pins and needles waiting here for the sound of a heli coming this way so I'm sure he made his first run in good shape. We're in constant radio touch though so it's not too bad. Soon I'll be making trips out with him and that's gonna be fun for sure. The little hospital they've set up here is real nice. They put up a new building and have outfitted it with some real good stuff. More equipment is due to arrive over the next month. We have a radiologist and an 3 LPNs on staff too. It's going to be a very busy time here with lots of adventure added in. Not the same ol' thing as at home. Some real challenges coming for us and we both look forward to it. It's obvious that both of us are gonna have to learn to speak some Portugese. Some may call us nuts for this, but we really had gotten into a bit of a rut and both wanted something to satisfy our adventurous sides some. For me it's looking to be something that will enhance my vision of the world and add to my professional experience in a way never offered at home. Jay's like a new man now that he's back to running the sticks on a full scale. His old confidence and sense of worth is coming back and he smiles constantly. The Irish spark in his eyes is getting brighter. I tell ya now, I'm likin' that part of him a big bunch. For now we're signed on in a job by job status with the option to stay on as long as we want. We could have contracted for 6 months or a year but thought it would be best to work awhile and see just what it's all about first. Jay gets paid by the trip and I'm on a daily guarantee. All the money comes from the Peruvian govt. and it's real good. 'Specially considering they also provide our house, food, clothing allowance and a car with a driver for our off time. Mack, Jay said to tell you "yeah, these new Bell Venoms are quite different from the old 'beaters' in Nam. Bigger, faster and lots more technology. As far as flying them they're actually easier. Handle better, tons more power and with all the gizmos on board they nearly fly themselves. Lots quieter too. Not the old tin boxes with rotors on top like the old Hueys". Tingo Maria, also called Rupa-Rupa by the Incas, has a population of 55,000 so it's not a small town by any sense. It's an agricultural area where thousands of acres of coffee is grown (yummmm, some great coffees at the cafes here) is at an elevation of 2,133 feet (650 metres) on the right bank of the Huallaga River. It's located at the head of navigation of the river’s middle course in an intermediate geographic zone known as a ceja de selva (eyebrow of the jungle), part of the Selva Alta (High Forest) of Peru’s eastern piedmont, leading down from the Andes to the Amazonian lowlands. I plan to read and surf more on this place to learn about it. If it ain't gonna bore y'all to read I'll share more as I learn it. The townspeople are mostly of middle income and are very friendly. They treat Jay and the other pilots like heroes and are constantly stopping to speak and thank all of us. One woman who is a local nurse offered to be my "Mom" while I'm here. So far we feel very welcome and at ease. As soon as we can we plan to have my Dad ship a couple of the little helis out to us. Probably the 500s 'cause fuel for the 600s isn't available here. That way we can just fly 'lectric and can recharge batteries. There's plenty of space here to fly them and I'm bettin' some of the natives are gonna be real fascinated with them. My poor folks were kinda taken aback by this decision we've made here but are bein' their usual 100% supportive. My Dad got a bit pissed at first but has accepted this as something we wanted to try. Mom is bein' her usual calm self about it all but did cry a little during hers and my 'private time' at home before we left. It was a tough parting. That'll sure make the homecoming good though. When we called 'Ol Henry to tell him about it he said he was jealous and wished he could go along. He told Jay that if we got into any trouble here to call him and he'd grab his gun and come runnin'. Good 'ol boy the colonel. As for my old job back home, I'm on indefinite leave of absence and my old bosses are backing our decision all the way. They feel that if I decide to come back to their company my experiences down here will be of benefit to us all. I am still communicating with LSU too. It's taking a long time for them to decide on offering me a permanent position there teaching. Mostly the delays are financial. They too have expressed support for us and feel this kind of experience will be of benefit to anyone working for them. Wish I could rattle on a bit more here but there are others waiting to share the connection to the net. We'll keep in touch and know that we miss all of ya. Please be safe, healthy and happy. RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hey, hi y'all, Seems like a long time since scribblin' here so I just had to. We've been doin' fine. We always enjoy Baton Rouge. As usual I've been full time busy scarin' newbie nurses into learnin' a few things. This's my element and it's not like workin' for a livin'. We've been gettin' in some really good flyin' time lately. Since we last talked we've gone through a gallon of fuel and tons of recharges on LiPos. Sure is good to be back in the groove again with the helis. Now, it was my understandin' that our next build was to be one of the 700s, buuutttt oh nooooo!! Yesterday Jay dug a coupla boxes out of the trailer that I didn't know he had along. While we were in Nebr. he boxed up his old Cricket and stashed it in the trailer. Now he's makin' all these plans to rebuild that one to brand new. He's havin' one of those nostalgic periods 'bout "the first days of heli use leading to addiction". He wants a piece of his past back. I'm gonna be all over this little restoration. Looks like a really cool project with a difference from all the other buildin' we've done lately. So, here we go into the dusty world of finding rare parts and figgerin' out how to make the ones we have like new. All the parts are there, but very well worn and sittin' for a real long time. Wish us luck and we'll keep you up on the job. Have any of ya ever seen this site??? http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=333626 Came across this researching the Cricket online. There's actualy a lot out there on the Cricket and this one has some really cool stuff on old relic rc helis. Gosh, even some from the 70s. Way back in the last century. Check out the videos of the one with the motor on top of the main rotor. Hey, no kiddin'. The sound it makes is more like a ufo with a bad muffler. Gotta go. It's my turn to decide where to have and buy breakfast so better git ta gittin'. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Oh yeah, and chocolate to you Matty. Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Helooo everybody[:D], Sorry for the absence. We got real busy for awhile. During our stay at my folks this time we got involved in re-roofing the boathouse with my Dad. A new experience for me and (of course) Jay loved every minute of it. Mixed with that, Jay and my Dad concentrated on gettin' the new trailer all modified to match the one we lost. That's all done now except for the shelving, bench and slide out mountings for the generator and AC. Those are all assembled and waiting for us at Henrys in Georgia. Anywho, we've stayed real busy of late. We did do a lot of evening flying though. The 500s and 600s got good workouts. Jay got kinda crazy with his 600 once, took it out over the water, got real low (less than a foot) over the water and did some high speed passes. Kinda cool the way the rotor wash left a wake in the water. But, he got it way too low one time and almost gave it a dippin'. Water was flyin' up all around the heli and some of it got in the carb. The motor started runnin' real bad and it was a close call just gettin' the heli back to dry land to set it down. It kept runnin' up fast, then would die off for a second or two. The heli kind of hopped up and down back to the land. I was sure he was gonna drop it in the water but it made it. Jay will be tearin' the motor down in the next coupla days to inspect for damage. Seems OK but he won't run it again 'till he checks it out. Made for a nail bitin' coupla minutes. Me and Momma bitin', Jay all involved with the controls and cussin' some, Daddy cheerin' him and the heli on with some repeated "c'mon son, you can get it back here" and "c'mon little birdie, ain't time for your weekly bath". Once it was down safely on the grass we all had a little cheering session. Jay was all excited 'bout it workin' out. He said that was a situation he'd never had to handle before and wasn't 'xactly sure what to do or how it would come out. Seems knowing your heli and how it reacts to controls pays off in tight spots. Somethin' I need to keep in mind so I don't go all panicky and wreck if I have to face a situation. Just like it's said a lot, "Relax and let your trainin' kick in". Seems true in a lot of things. That's what we're told all through our medical trainin' too. Don't overthink things when time is of the essence. I love the way this hobby keeps teachin' all the time. Keeps my interest up. We're now all settled back in Baton Rouge. Been here since late Sunday night. To begin with I wasn't scheduled to start work here again 'till the first of the month, but, they called and asked if I could come back a little early to help another instructor give some finals. She's tryin' to handle two classes right now becasue of an instructor that is on leave for some medical reasons. So, I'm back in my white coat and teachin' again. Right where I love to be. Still corespondin' back and forth with the administration at LSU about turnin' this job into a permanent position. Just like any other thing with red tape and suits, it takes next to forever to get anything decided. It always boils down to the money thing and that's purty much where we're at with it right now. They've said my salary requirements are fair for the job required. They just have to do all the crunchin' to see how it all would fit in their budget and curriculum. Hmmmmm, those suits always seem to "overthink" things a lot. Good thing they don't fly helis. They'd be in the lake. Seems easy to me. They're spendin' the money havin' me come here and the classroom I use isn't used for anything else. When I'm not here another contract instructor uses it for basically the same things. Oh well, to a simple country girl like me one and one is still two and no matter how you divide it up it's still two in the end. I guess I'm just not 'phisticated enough to understand all the decimals, percentages, analyses, market values, state of the local economy, end values, liabilities and how much it costs for the custodian to dust the room all mixed together in some long half latin formula. I saw it once on a piece of paper when I went in for an interview with one of the suits a while back. He kept shovin' that under my nose like it meant somethin' and I should comment on it. I politely told him I didn't really understand all that part of it, but I did understand the value of well trained staff and students and the importance of students having someone they know and like trainin' them. It has been proven many times how much better they learn from a comfortable and familiar environment. Many of the students I have across my territory have mentioned this very thing and how uncomfortable it is to face teachers that are basically strangers and the uncertainty of what they are going to require of their students. K, sorry guys. Got my chatter switch set at 9 again. I'll quit. Good thing it didn't get to 10 though. Y'all would either be skippin' my post or readin' until tomorrow some time. Gotta get back to my room full of nusies anyway. Time to stop the clock on the exam and make them nervously hand them over to me. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Well now, hi theah whirly heads[8|][:)][:D], I'm on a break at work havin' a nice grilled chicken and cheese sandwich my dedicated Irishman brought me. I have two hours before I assist in a surgery. We're gonna fix up a ladys right lung from a fall she took off a balcony. Her rib poked a hole in it and we're gonna stitch it up and get it workin' proper again. Anywho, Jay and I are gonna go out behind the maintenance garage here and do some flittin' with the 500s. It's been real nice here and what flyin' I get to do has been tons of fun. Today we're gonna have a little audience as three of the nursies I work with are gonna come watch. Hope I don't make a klutz of myself. Wowsers 'Cuda, Those scale helis are really kewllll! Now, that's my kind of flyin'. No crazy flippin' and floppin'. Please, no insult meant for those that like the 3D. Just not my style. I do enjoy watchin' Jay do it. It's got to be kinda rare even for him lately. We have so much fun with the sport flyin'. 'Specially when we get to do it together and make our helis dance 'round each other. Watchin' the scales fly makes me want one real bad. Shoot, far as I'm concerned, all my helis could be scales. Good news came today in the ol' inbox. My TX is all fixed like new and on it's way to us here. Should be here tomorrow. They even put all the programming back in for us and it shoud be ready to go out of the box. 'Course, we'll check all that before flying with it. Lookin' forward to flyin' double again. The bill only came to $77. Not a bad punishment for my lack of care at the field. Well, done with the eatin' now and we're heading out for the little spot to fly for a bit. Jay says "hello". Always good to chit chat with y'all. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Helllooooooo everybody[:D], 'Bout time I wrote a little somethin' here. I promise to try and keep it "little". Y'all know my penchance towards chattin' though[8|]. It's been just beeootiful here in Nebraska. Cool nights and comfy days. We've just come back from flyin' the 600s and they're all tweaked to good flyin' settings. Shore is good to see, hear and smell the nitro stuff again. We're limited right now 'cause I had a little oopsie with my TX[X(]. Sat it out on the table over at the soccer field, turned around and got the case with my 600 in it, shoved the case on the onto the table and managed to push my TX off onto the concrete. Oh dear, I'm 'fraid I joggled it's insides kinda hard. Some of the menus won't come up and it's actin kinda crazy. So, for now, we're usin' Jays TX to fly all the birdies and takin' turns. Dang it anyway, not near as much fun as flyin' double. Jay boxed my TX up today to send it in for fixin' and we've decided that it's a good idea to get another one to have as a spare. We'll get that ordered and sent to my parents address so we can go pick it up when we get back to Baton Rouge. Darn my excited hurryin' anyway. Yes guys, we do have a case for the radios, but I had gotten it out first. I promise to be more careful from now on. Jay was his usual calm and patient self about it and has even been teasin' me some about it. At first he just said "I guess you'll have to sit and watch me fly today". I was gonna pout but he was just kiddin' and even let me go first. I don't care what anybody else says, he's just a darn nice guy. K now, I promised to keep it "little" here so I'll get done. We're on the way to Okie City on the 10th and I start my two weeks there on the 12th. Looks like their weather has mellowed out and it should be good for some flyin'. Jay's gonna leave the old Ford at home this time and use his car to pull the trailer. We've put lotsa miles on the truck lately and he wants to start limiting those some. Bye now y'all. Always a good feelin' to chat it up with ya. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica.

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hidee doodles everybody[:D], Finally get to talk to y'all a little. It's been a real busy time for me lately with long 10 hour days and only one day a week off. I shore am enjoyin' the peace and quiet of Nebraska we've had for a few days. The cooler weather is nice too. Felt like we were all cooked and dried out from all those hot desert days. It's on to Okie City on Friday and back to work. And, it looks like more hot dry weather there. The damper air here in Nebraska sure feels good. Mack, Glad to know you're back home safe and had a good trip. I'm bettin you made Mr. Thumbs day by stoppin' for a visit. Looks like all y'all have been keepin' the thread at it's customary level of competence and quality. I swear, I've been readin' it all, really. My 'puter time has been dominated by work and studyin' lately. Been rainy a lot since we got here so not much flyin' gettin done. "Cept for hoppin' around with Ames in the full scale. We've been ridin' along on some of his flights to survey some of the changes in the river valley since all the floodin' earlier in the summer. Lots of different channels in the rivers now and some new lakes and ponds. One of the interestin' things about this part of the country. It's almost like it's fluid and changes a lot. We got our hands on the 700 kits now and those'll get built soon after some restin' from the buildin'. We really do need a rest from that. Too much fun in too short a time. Some nights, by the time we quit I was a little crossey eyed and Jay had to help me not walk into a wall or somethin'. Gotta give most of the credit on gettin' helis built to Jay though. He's been spendin' some long days on them. Put that together with takin' care of all the runnin' around durin' the day, seein' I got my foot and neck rubs after work, gettin' me out to fly some and workin' on the trailer he's had a full schedule. It's been fun to fly a couple for a change, but as y'all well know, new birdies and first flights are full of more workin' out things till the helis are smooth and steady. The 500s are all sweet now and the 600s are still bein' adjusted up. Jay came up with ten gallons of fuel from a little hobby shop here in No. Platte. A surprisin' find and now we're stocked up on petrol for while. That little shop caters to the RC car folks here and they keep a good supply of fuel on hand 'cause there's a lot of car folks here and they have a lot of races. He gave Jay a good deal on the fuel too. Just $16.75 a jug in lots of ten. A little somethin' about the wreck of the trailer in Georgia we haven't shared yet. Today Ames and Jay are in Ames' shop buildin' a strong container out of some sheet aluminum and some fireproof stuff as a liner. It's some stuff Ames has left over from doin' some work inside a cargo plane that hauls flammable materials and chemicals for some of the manufacturing comapnies out here. They'll be figgerin' out a way to set it up in the trailer once it's done. It'll 'xactly hold ten gallon jugs in separate pockets and Ames says it'll survive 'bout any kind of possible thumpin' it might get. Guess the crash in Georgia has us thinkin' safety in our method of transportin' as much as in our flyin' now. Made us realize how scary it can be when your jugs of fuel are sprayed all over the road. We didn't have much on hand when the trailer got hit but it was enough to see that it don't take much to make a splash at the wrong time. 'Nuther lesson learned the hard way. No lectures I promise. I know all y'all are smart enough to already see what the point is here. Whups!!! Gotta go. My yikky yak switch got stuck again and I need to go with Deb to pick up some pizzas to take out to the shop and have lunch with the guys. Thanks for lettin' me borrow your ears for awhile. It's always a buncha fun talkin' with y'all. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Heloooo everybody, It was my only day off this week and we spent it well. Started out this mornin' on the Harley for awhile before it got real hot. We rode around till 'bout 10 and then had an early lunch (brunch?) at a real cool little diner we found out in the East end of the city. Then we bellied up to the table in the hotel and there's now one finished 500. It's a beauty, all shiny and new, lookin' like it's ready to take on the air. Jay hopes to get out early tomorrow and do some of the tweakin'. Tomorrow evenin' we'll toss all the parts for the second one out on the table and start the buildin' all over again. Hoowee, won't be long now and we'll both have a workin' heli again. Accordin' to the tracking the 600s should show up tomorrow. The new Hyper 50 motors for them showed up yesterday. whew, more buildin'. Good thing we enjoy that so much and can work as a team. Sure will be nice to have a 'herd' again. Called Ames this afternoon and there's two 700s at his house in Nebraska waitin' for us. I work here in Phoenix till the 26th and then have five days vacation. We'll be goin' to Nebraska from here and spend a few days before headin' to Okie City. Two weeks there and I hope to get back to Baton Rouge. By then we should have the 600s done and can start on the 700s. Ooohh JD, you get to build a jet???? That sounds like a buncha fun. Do you get to test it when it's done? Matty, I'm so glad you've got time with the family. I know it's hard to work apart from them. I can remember when Jay and I were apart a lot 'cause of work and how lonely it can be even around lots of other people. Give the ladies a big ol' hug from us please. Bet the 'sproglet' is growin' on ya. Turnin' into a lady real fast. The settlement with the insurance co. is now signed and sealed. The attorney in Albany tells us he's received the check for his services ($1500) and our payment should show up in the bank account by tomorrow afternoon. We ended up with $2890 for replacement of the trailer, all the helis paid for, $962 for replacement of the generator on the trailer, $644 for the lost spare heli parts and field kits, $416 for repairs to the truck frame and hitch, $1500 for the hours we claimed building the helis and $3575 for the time and materials spent modifying the trailer. We kept the claim for the hours on the helis and trailer conservative. We never kept track of them and didn't wanna be too greedy. Altogether that drunk kid cost his insurance $15,633. I surely am glad he didn't cost anyone or himself injury or life and I hope he's learned from it all. Now we can pay down the credit card. It's lookin' kinda worn lately. Needs some body work and a paint job. We'll get a list of spare parts figgered out soon, get them ordered and sent to my folks address. My momma tells me that daddy was so inspired by Jay and I gettin' married that he's been talkin' 'bout she and him renewing their vows in a small ceremony. They've decided to do that and will get it set up for when Jay and I can be there. So, we'll be visitin' them during the next trip to Baton Rouge. Cooooooollllllll beans. Get to see my folks renew their marraige and gather up a buncha heli parts too. Ahhhhhhh, life is so good. Sleep is startin' to sneak into my eyes so I best go and let it take over for the night. Gotta be sharp in the mornin' to help with surgery on a guy that was hurt in a fall off his garage. We'll be repairin' his lower spine. Sad he got hurt, but I have to admit I'm excited 'bout gettin' to help on this one. My very first spine job. I surely do love my work. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
HAY HI Y'ALL, Been so long since I got to yak it up with all you good folks. Been keepin' up though readin' the thread. My work here has kept me so dang busy. I'm puttin' in 10 hour days. I'm not teachin' here this time. I'm back to bein' a workin' nursie for awhile. The hospital here does a lot of different kinds of surgeries and I'm assigned to three of the surgeons as their OR assistant. Very busy and intense but I'm gettin' a ton of real good experience. Got to help remove a tumor from a 24 year old womans brainstem this mornin'. Never done that before and it was scary but fascinatin'. It had her in bad shape with some paralysis and tremors but she'll now recover 100%. I was more or less worn out last night by the time I got home from work yesterday and I walked into a heli shop in the hotel room. There was a grinning Irishman sittin' there with a big spread of heli parts in front of him. He was real antsy to get to gittin' on turnin' those parts into an assemblage that would look like a heli and fly like one. I took up a chair next to him and scooted up to the table. He must have noticed the tiredness in my eyes. He put his arm 'round me and suggested I take a shower and revive some first. Sounded real good to me. By the time I'd finished cleanin' up and changin' outta the scrubs and into some loose and comfy sweats he'd snuck out and brought back a nice burrito dinner for us. There's a real good little Hispanic place just a block away. I dove into the dinner and after that we began puttin' 500 parts together. "Bout 15 minutes into it I was feelin' the excitement of buldin' again and we were on a roll. As of this mornin' one of the new 500s was a little over half done and lookin' good. Jay's workin' on it some today while I'm at the job so it should be further along. By the way JD, Jay took your suggestion and changed the order on the gyros to include the better servos. Breaks over so I gotta go back to my duties. Got a knee to rebuild yet today. I'll do my best to be back soon and visit. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
HIDEE DOODLES y'all[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D], Had my nose buried in some studyin' lately and I've missed y'all. I'm down to the end of this round of studies and will take my final test later tonight. I needed a break before the testin' so here I am, relaxin' with friends. Hiya Chopperoo. Been wonderin' some too where ya been. You're 'verbalosity' is always welcome far as I'm concerned. Karl, real good to know your trip went well. Glad you got to meet JD in person. Matty, always good to read your writin' here. Your sense of humor and light hearted attitude really come through. JD, always the presence here we all look forward to. And Mr. Mack, love readin' your stuff and knowin' how much fun you're havin'. "Cuda, our voice from the world of flyin', keep comin' back and edicatin' us lowly flitter freaks, please. Mike, how ya doin'? Hope the weather hasn't got ya too far down. How'd the time in Illinois go. Catch some nice fishies? Jay and I've been flyin' as much as possible. Jay's been gettin' in some in the early parts of the day while it's still kinda cool. Afternoon temps have been purty high and better for fishin', which him and Henry have been takin' advantage of. That's good though. Been lots of fillets to grill lately. I've run outta my daddys secret seasoning for fish so I need to call him and talk him into tellin' me how to mix it so I can go get the stuff needed and make up a batch. I'll hafta use my squeaky pleeeeaaaassseee on him but I betcha I get the recipe. Y'all talkin' 'bout doin' rolls has reminded me of somethin' I started to write a while back when JD was askin' all of us to pass on things we'd learned. With all the things between then and now I'd forgot. Sorry JD, I'll get it done and try to add my share to the thread. It's kinda long. Hope I don't put anybody to sleep. I'll start by referiin' to somethin' Jay said to me when I first wanted to learn a roll. I was still kinda new and iffy doin' loops and fast stall turns. I was lettin' this keep me from tryin' a roll. Jay sat me down one day at the field and told me that it shouldn't matter. He said that if flyin' fancy with helis was easy too many people would be doin' it and it wouldn't be special. He did his usual job of encouragin' me to try and got my courage up. I'd practiced on the sim for quite awhile by then and could do a decently smooth roll on there. Jay reminded me too that smooth isn't a concern to begin with. Just get the mechanics and technique workin first, then fine tweak it till you do rolls smooth as silk. Just like JD did with you Mack, Jay told me to just go do it and do it 'xactly like on the sim. We checked and double checked the set up on my heli (it was the 450 then) to be sure it was good as possible for idle up 1 mode. It all looked good so I took little 'Jessica' out to a nice flat spot on the field and spun her up. I warmed up with some fast passes goin' into hard stall turns at each end of the field. While doin' this I made my self remember how to keep head speed up and to bring the heli back towards the middle of the field in a slightly nose down orientation. Jay suggested this as it will be needed when doin' the rolls later. Then, I practiced flippin' fast to inverted while goin' forward. I was worried 'bout headspeed doin' that and Jay got me to realize that the set up on the heli was takin' care of that for me. One less thing to worry about. I could now begin to concentrate on maintaining forward speed. I made several runs across the field flippin' to inverted. After that I needed a fresh battery so we sat down again to talk some about what was next. Jay 'splained to me that my first full rolls should be done from altitude with a shallow dive to help keep the forward speed and I wouldn't need to worry much 'bout revo mixing and roll rate. They'll just happen. Sounded kinda scary to me but it was planned to try it that way. He said as long as I started high enough it wouldn't be so bad. That way I'd be takin' advantage of the actual dynamics of a helis forward speed bein' achieved from the combination of vertical lift and disk angle. Kinda like sliding down a ramp. We walked out to the lift off point to take note of wind direction and speed. That way I would know if I was rollin' into the wind or with it. That makes a difference. Into the wind the rolls are kinda jumpy and happen in a shorter distance. With the wind they're smnoother and use up more distance. Gotta keep this in mind so it doesn't freak ya when your heli seems to be gettin' too far away by the time the roll is done. K now, I was ready (kinda) to try some rolls. Jay had me take a little time to think about the sequence of control inputs I'd be doin' and do some dry runs on the sticks before I took off. This got my mind around it all and gave me a chance to actually 'feel' what my thumbs were gonna need to do. Got the heli spun up and lifted it to 'bout fifty feet. Sent it out to the end of the field and did a long turn at full throttle bringin' it to a real fast level pass with the nose a little down usin' full throttle and 100% collective. As it came back to the middle of the field I made sure it wasn't climbing. When the heli was nearly right in front of me I gave it full aileron. As it came around in the roll I slammed in full negative collective. It came on around not losing much altitude and when it started to come back right sidey up I slammed in full positive collective and went to zero aileron. It rolled over real nice and leveled right out. Slammin' the positive and negative collective works good when first tryin' rolls. Since then I've kinda improved and have tweaked how I change collective. That first time was pure adrenalin and I could feel a little panic in the middle of the roll. I didn't let that stop me though and kept my mind on the sticks. In the few seconds of comin' out of the roll it seemed the heli was gonna drop and crash. It all was like slow motion and felt like it was all happenin' too slow. Not true though. That was the adrenalin makin' my mind work fast and givin' the illusion that things were happenin' slower than they actually were. I ignored the scary feelin' and just let the heli do what it knew how to do from my stick inputs. Hooooweee boy, felt good when the birdie came back upty side up and hadn't fell in the dirt. I was so amped up by then I couldn't land. I had to let her rip into another run down the field, do a long climbin' turn and bring it back slow to a landin'. I hafta to tell ya that was one of the biggest rushes I've ever got flyin these birdies and caused another 'happy dance'. Jay said it was a triple happy dance. He did a kind of cheerin', hoppin' thang of his own with several "OH HELL YEAHS" thrown in. That's my story of learnin' how and doin' my first roll. Since then I've got better at them and more relaxed. Sometimes they're still a little herky jerky but I always get all the way around. Hope nobodys sleepin' here. There's gonna be a quiz. Kiddin' of course. Thanks y'all for lettin' me tell ya 'bout this. By the by, if any of you ever get the chance to see the 4th of July fireworks out at the Marine Logistics base here in Albany, do it. The most amazin' 45 minutes of fireworks I've ever seen. Had the crowd cheerin' the whole time. Gonna shut my yap now and give you a rest. Need some myself before takin' my test. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hay hi y'all, Stormy here today. I worked all day and by the time I ot off the weather was clearing but the wind was bad. So, no flying dang it. My hubby spent the whole day workin' on my car. I got to take the truck to work and didn't mind at all. I love drivin' that old Ford. Looks like Jay got the pieces outta my car that needed to be out and will start puttin' in the new stuff tomorrow. Must be a big job. He got real dirty and used up 'bout a months worth of cussin'. No lift here but Henrys new building has lots of room and there's two big jack stands under the front of the car. There's pieces parts layin'around and lots of tools. Yeah Mack, That old bonnie looks cool. They're not that big anymore and are a lot different. Jay and I both have one. His is a 2000 ssei and mine is a 2002 ssei. They're supercharged and run real good. I'll put in some pics here. Jays is the silver one and mine is the black one. I know, black cars are a pain to keep clean and shiny, but I love black cars. I traded off a black 2000 Mustang GT for my Bonnie 'bout two years ago. Average flights with the 'lectric 700 were 7 minutes. We discussed the purchase of a new 700 this evenin' and have more or less decided to go with an electric one for a scale. Now we need to decide what kind of fuselage to get for it. We both still fancy the AS350 look but are going to look at others before we decide. I like the Jet Ranger too. Gotta go and get ready for sleepy time. By the way JD, Jay weighs in at 163 and it's all fine Irish muscle. Please be safe healthy and happy, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hidee doodles spinny heads, Wellllll pishwah, got some bad news. Jay crashed his 700 today. He was on the second battery and decided to try some light 3D with it. He's never done that with the big one yet. Things were goin' purty good 'till he tried some of those tail straight down rockin' back and forth thingies. He blames himself but it seemed like the heli lost some of it's power and it dropped straight down on the tail. Oooohhh, ouchie, it was turrible!! The tail hit and dirt went up. Then it flopped over on it's side and more dirt went up along with pieces parts. He had it at full throttle when it dropped so the rotors hit real hard and lotsa times. It's really wrecked this time. We gathered up what we could find (some pieces made little splashes out in Henrys pond never to be seen again). Even the battery flew out and was split open. It was smokin' when we found it so we let it sit for a bit and then dropped it in the water at the edge of the pond to cool it and neutralize the rest of the chemicals. It was still so hot Jay had to pick it up with a pair of pliers and it sizzled in the water. The main rotors are just little splinters still hangin' on the blade grips. The canopy looks like a used up piece of tinfoil. The whole back of the mainframe is off and in teeny pieces. The tailboom looks like it was run over by a tank. All bent in different directions and flat is a coupla places. The tail rotor assembly is missin' in action and likely in the pond too. We only found one skid and suspect the other is at the bottom of the pond. The maingear has only 'bout ten teeth left on it and is split on one side. We'll evaluate the damages tomorrow evenin'. Jay's already purty much decided it's a total loss and is resigned to buying another complete kit. Jay lost his desire to fly after that and put his other helis away in the trailer. "Course he's not the type to deny anyone else so he helped me get my 600 out and ready to fly so I could put a tank through it. It flew purfect and I got my nerve up enough to send it out low over the water a coupla times. Now that was fun and scary all at once. I could see little ripples in the water from the rotor wash. Gave me goosey bumps. One tank and I was ready to quit for the day. It was hot out and we needed to go to the house for a cool off and a cold drink. Jay stayed purty calm after the crash, but, I could tell he was hurtin'. He gets real quiet when he's feelin' that way and doesn't say much. I popped a beer for him at the house and gave his neck and shoulders a rubbin'. I could tell he was tense then 'cause his neck muscles were real tight. The rubbin' and two beers and he was feelin' more relaxed. Him and Henry were startin' to joke about it all by then and havin' some laughs. So sad 'bout that big beauty of a birdie, but it can be replaced. Gotta go back to work tomorrow and it's gettin' late. I better stop yakkin' and get myself ready for sleepin'. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Or, like Matty says: Peace, love and chocolate (have some peanut butter with your chocolate too). Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi y'all, Just a short note to check in. I'm safely back in Albany as of yesterday mornin' and back to work. Rolled into Henrys place at around 5 AM yesterday, caught two hours sleep and headed to work. Had to be there at 9 AM. I'm feelin' fine and am back in the 'groove' of work. Jay'll be headin' this way tomorrow and will be here soon. I brought the truck and trailer with all the heli toys aboard so we'll have our flyin' stuff all here to play with. Lunch is over so I gotta get back to work for now. Talk with ya later, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi everybody, I'm safely back in Farmerville and just lazing around till I go back to work in Albany. Jay stayed on in Nebraska to continue helping with the flood. It's not looking very good there. I took the truck and trailer and left him the Harley. He has his car there too. Right now the plan is he'll ride the Harley back out here when he's done in Nebraska. He'll get to do some flying with Ames to survey flood damage and work out on the levees where needed. I have all the small helis with me so he'll be RCless for a while. Not much opportunity to fly them out there anyway. Nothing much to yak about right now. I hope to fly my 500 some before going back to work. I'll be taking the truck and trailer to Albany so I'll have all the stuff with me there and it'll all be there when Jay comes. I'm faithfully reading the thread and keeping up. See y'all later. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Helloooooo everybody, It's been hot and dry here in Nebraska. Upper 80s to low 90s. So far the flooding seems to be under a kind of control. The Army Corps of engineers are doing some good work as are a lot of volunteers. Lots of sandbag and dirt walls going up all around. Jay and I are goin' out to help fill and stack sandbags around Buffalo Bills ranch South of town tomorrow. Lots of historical treasures out there to protect. Ames and his crew are out working around the airport to build berms. The water is real close to Ames shop and hangars. We offered to go out there and he said they had lots of help and we could be of more help out at the old ranch. So we'll do that. Today we took the 500s and 600s out for a fly. We found one soccer field that isn't soggy yet and we ran 'em for all they're worth. Probably the last chance we'll have to fly here. We plan to leave here early on the 10th to head back to Farmerville. I'll be goin' back to work in Albany, GA on the 20th and will be there for a full month. It'll be good to see ol' Henry again and get back into the groove of work. All this time off has spoilt me rotten. It'll be good to settle out of all the travellin' for awhile too and stick to one place. Better get some sleep. We're gonna get a workout tomorrow. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Well hi theah everybody, We're in Nebraska now and'll be here for five days. We saw lots of flooding on the trip here. So many folks are having a hard time this year. Sad to see so much beautiful country under water. Here in North Platte the rivers are beginning to run out into the surrounding areas. The Army Corps of Engineers are working like crazy to try and contain the flows. Seems it's a losing battle though. The melt from the wyoming Rockies is just beginning and the North Platte River is already flooding from all the rains. 'Nuther big storm out here tonight that dumped a lot of rain and hail. The Colorado Rockies snow melt will come through here in the South Platte River and cause problems from the other side of town. A one two punch comin' for the folks here. We got here late in the evenin' and spent several hours visitin' Ames, Debi and Jays sis. Tomorrow is 'sposed to be hot and calm and after opening up Jays place, dustin' and cleanin' some we will try to get out with the 500s for a while. We brought Jays truck and the trailer so we have all the helis and the Harley along. Was the first time I've ever gone down the highway in that old Ford truck and it runs real sweet. The modern suspension under it makes it ride real good too. A fun way to travel. Just wanted to check in. Sorry we don't have much heli talk lately. We'll get all this stuff taken care of soon and be back to normal. I'm jonesin' for some real flyin' days. Mr Mack, Flyin' a 450 is a lot of fun but the 500 or bigger will spoil ya. They just seem to be more capable and pilot friendly. The little guys flit and change direction quicker and take a different set of reactions. I'm glad I learned on one though. Made me a more confident pilot by the time I got to the 500. Oooooohhh, bound up. That's no fun at any age. Big ol' bowl of cheerios each mornin' will help prevent that. Yeah shore JD, We all believe you don't know how to get that plank flyin', you betcha. We know you're bound to bind, fly and float, land and love it. Gotta go and sleep for awhile. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Jay and Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi y'all, Been a real nice easy day here. We drove out to the families cemetery and put some real purty flowers next to some headstones. Me and momma took my car and Jay and daddy took Jays truck with all the flowers loaded in it. The Tribe had been out yesterday mowing and trimming everything up real nice. The cemetery is in and among the natural terrain with trees and huge rocks all around. It's more of a natural setting than the city cemeteries are and is beautiful. My moms sis is buried on the side of a rise with an oak tree shading her plot. Her parents are just a few feet away under a tall Georgia pine. My sister True is by a large rock with a shrub at each side. Sad and happy at the same time. I really miss my sister True. She was always my best friend. Once back at the house we all bowed our heads and offered up a few quiet words for those that gave all they had so we could have all we have. We remembered those living too that gave of themselves for our way of life. Thank you to all the vets that have been there when we needed them and are still being there. We love you all and can't thank you enough. K, on to happier thoughts. My hubby and I are going to head for Nebraska tomorrow morning. With all the weird weather and flooding between us and there we feel the need to get there soon. The area around North Platte is getting wetter by the day. Lots of water in both rivers and snow melt comin' soon. We need to check on Jays home there and get out to some porperty South of town with a surveyor to get things rollin' to start sellin' off some of it. The town is growin' fast and there'll be housing goin' up out there soon. It was an investment and even with the state of the economy it's going to produce some gains. We don't plan on ever using the property ourselves so now is a good time to let it go. We got out the little 450s today and had a ball flyin' those teeny little thangs. Funny how when I first got one it seemed like it was a purty big heli and now that I'm spoilt on the 500 and 600 it seems like a little thang. Still fun as heck to fly though. We've been again discussing the idea of selling off the 450s as we hardly ever fly 'em and we would like to invest the money in some sort of real big scale bird for both of us to work on. Sounds fun to me. I've not been in on helpin' much with a scale heli yet. 'Nuther aspect of the hobby that's new to me and I know it'll be interestin' enough to be fun. I've watched Jay work on some and learned all the proper cuss words so I think I can be of help on the next one. Hope y'all had a real good holiday and got to grill up some tasty vittles. We had grilled strip steaks with black pepper and vinegar seasoning. Roasted some corn on the cob in foil on the grill too. Don't know what all daddy puts in with the corn but it's a real tongue tickler. Jay and daddy disappeared out on the boat for about three hours for some fishin' so me and momma took off to go visit some of her lady friends here in Farmerville. Nice way to spend part of a day. Just lazin' and bein' happy. Stayed awake last night till about midnight and then crashed like a rock. I slept straight through till bout 9 this mornin' and woke up feelin' great. Had my normal energy all day today and I'm feelin' nicely sleepy tonight. Think I'm gettin' back to normal. When I'm done with this I'm gonna sink my little head into a big soft pillow and float off to sleep. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Helllooooo all y'all[:D], First, a very happy and memorable Memorial Day to all of you. Hope you all have family things planned and enjoy the day. We have our flowers all ready to go for decorating gravesights tomorrow and will get that done early in the day. We have my mommas grandparents, one of her sisters and my sisters grave to visit. All in a family cemetery just 50 miles from here on Reservation land. My daddys folks are buried way over in Mississippi so his sister takes care of decoratin' for him there. After that it'll be the traditional grillin' and socializin'. Boyo boy, finally got to fly again and we had a great time. Took all of two minutes to get the feel back and take off for some really cool sport flyin'. Jay went first and had his 500 goin' real good right away. I took off 'bout halfway through his first pack and got my senses warmed up. Jay waited till I used up that first pack and then we loaded in fresh ones and hopped into some of our chasin' flyin'. Now, that was fun. Back to the old feelin' again and it's great. We didn't push things too far this first time out. Just some gentle followin' and chasin' with one synchronised climbing corkscrew goin' up and out in opposite directions. After three packs each we quit for the day. The rest of the day we spent lazin' around the house, enjoyin' some good cookin' outta my mommas kitchen and good conversation with my folks and their neighbors. Managed to stay awake all day and tonight will sleep a normal night. I'm feelin' a lot closer to normal now. Amazin' how much effect travellin' like that has on ya. Always heard about it from others but now I know what they meant. Even the soles of my feet were tingly the first day back. Time to get that normal nights sleep so I'll quit yakkin'. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hidee doodles y'all, Well now, It's nearly 11:30 PM and I'm sittin' here wide awake. My body still thinks it's not quite noon. Jay's out like a light, but then again he's a good napper and never has any trouble sleepin' any time of day. He can just blink out. Me, I'm havin' a little trouble readjustin'. Jay says another day or two of short sleeps and I'll konk out for a good one at the right time of day. I shore hope so. It's so lonely sittin' up in the wee hours by myself. Happy to have cable TV. I thought 'bout gettin' onery, sneakin' up on Jay and wakin' him up. I could use my little pooched out lip and tell him I'm lonely. The lip thang usually works. Nah, that'd be unfair. I know he'd do his best to keep me company but he'd be tired. I'll get my body clock back on whack soon. I think I'll spend some time dustin' off the helis since I'm up anyway. We're gonna get 'em out for a spin tomorrow. 'Sposed to be clear and warm. That's somethin' else I gotta readjust to. Warmer temps. Never got much above 70 in Italy and stayed below 50 in Ireland. Betcha my southern blood will get used to it again quick though. Yea Mack, We did take right off for home from Atlanta after a good meal and a gallon of coffee each. Wasn't too bad the way we switched off. The dozin' kept us alert. I guess we were just anxious to get to a familiar place after all the furrin' lands and funny talkin' folks. We'd done some purty good sleepin' on that big ol' airplane too. A real comfy way to travel. Good thang I had Jay in Ireland. Half of what those good folks were sayin' I couldn't understand and the same for them when I talked. My fine Irishman spent a lot of time translatin' both ways. In Rome we found that most of the locals speak enough English to make it easy to get by. It was real funny to hear some of the Irish folk tryin' to mimic some of my accent. The drawl sounds strange mixed with the brougish accents. Hay y'all, I'm gonna shut thisa here 'puter down for awhile, dust off a coupla helis and see if a movie will make me drowsy. I'll try to catch up with y'all later. Lookin' forward to bein' around again, flyin' and tradin' yikky yak on here. As always I hope you'll all be safe, happy and healthy, Mrs. Donica Huff (still a kick to say that)

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hay hi y'all, Right now we're on a big ol' air plane out over the Atlantic Ocean. It's an Airbus A380. 'Sposed to be either the largest or one of the largest airliners in the world. It's like a big ol' building that hums. Lotsa technology on thisa here giant flyin' machine. We can watch our choice of 500 movies or a bunch of satellite TV on a screen right in front of our seats. We're flyin' first class and our seats are actually a couch with recliner foot rests. There's a walk up bar at the top of a circular stairs. One of the smart things they did was to put in 14 womens restrooms. There's twelve for the men too. I'm on the net by pluggin' my laptop into a socket next to my seat. I'm limited though on how long I can be on here so I'll not yammer on too long. This flight is nonstop all the way to Atlanta so we'll be settin' down there around 9:30 AM tomorrow. I think the jet lag and all the different time zones is catchin' up with Jay. We weren't off the ground more than 30 minutes and he crashed like a burnt out rocket. He's still sleepin'. Poor ol' Irish is wore out. I'm beginnin' to feel some of it myself and plan to snuggle under his arm and do some sleepin' soon as I get this wrote. Happy to be gettin' home and have a ton of memories to carry now. It's been a real big deal for me to take this trip. My time's runnin' out so I'll tell y'all "cheerio" for now. Love ya and miss ya, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Ho hum (yawn), OH, hi theah y'all, It's not quite 6 AM here (midnight there). We're up early to travel from Dublin South to Wicklow to pick up an aunt of Jays. From there we'll be goin' to Kilkenny to attend a small family gathering. Jays cousins here in Dublin have been busy on the phones arranging for members of the "clan" to get together at a pub/restraunt in Kilkenny. As of now it sounds like maybe a dozen or so. I hafta say, the folks here in Ireland are a good bunch. They've brought us in and treated us royally. The men are of a rough hewn handsome look and the ladies are just outright beauties. Some of the red and strawberry hair on the women just glows and is beautiful. Most of them wear it real long and it shines. There's a few with brown and black hair too though. It seems like everybody here has a spark in their green eyes and the smiles are huge and frequent. JD, you'd fit right in here. As typicical of the Irish, there's been some partyin'. Lots of ales and the usual singin' and dancin'. Seems like lots of them play a musical instrument of some kind. Lots of piano players. The women sang an old Irish lilt for us last night. A kind of warbling tune done in Gaelic. It was hypnotic. Their voices flowed together in a tremulous kind of sound that gave me goosseybumps. Hmmm, no one's River Danced yet. Maybe at the gatherin'. I'd like to learn some of that. Mack, the food we've been treated to here has been much more than 'meat and taters'. Jays cousins wife grills up some real good steaks. Kinda unusual to me to have cooked cabbage as a side dish with steak but it's real good. Yesterday for lunch we had a wonderful stew. I'm not sure what all was in it but the meat was lamb. At home we'd call it a gumbo. Been some wonderful desserts too. One was a kind of pastry shell with peaches and cream topped with cinnamon. Mmmmmm, good stuff. The weather here is shore a lot differnt than Italy. Rains a lot and the warmest it's been so far is 52 degrees. The country side is beautiful and green though. Lots of rolling hills and rustic looking homsteads with herds of sheep and cows. Don't see much barbed wire 'round here. Most fences are of the old style wooden post type with long stretches of wood rails. Boyo, have I been catchin' a lot of joshin' about my accent. Not a lot of the folks here have been exposed to a Louisiana manner of speakin' and they find it fun. Of course, I've been throwin' all I can into it and even whupped a little Cajun dialect on them. They look at me like I'm speakin' Martian. Jay has done his best to translate. One thing I've notice in him is that his Irish accent came back real strong here. He's soundin' like a Native some of the time. This is part of the fun and fascination for me and givin' me memories for life. Sometimes I feel like I'm watchin' a movie. Just checkin' in y'all. From the readin' on the thread it looks like most are well and gettin' in some flyin'. I'm jealous of that part. We're havin' a wonderful time though and this is all like a dream to me. I'm seein' parts of the world I've only known from books and pictures before. Now I can say I've actually been to some. Just a few more days and we'll be aviatin' our way back to the good ol' US and our friends and toys. I'll be ready for a rest. All the different time zones and the jet lag has my body clock kinda foncused. My energy has held up so far but I know once we're home it will all set in and we'll need a period of lazin' to get readjusted. Best go and have some of the homegrown eggs and homemade bacon I smell cookin'. All comes right outta the back yard here. Miss y'all, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hay y'all, It's been a beautiful day in Rome as have most of them during our trip. We've been real lucky having good weather for the whole time. Let's see, it's early afternoon back there in the US and early evening here. Just on the short side of 6 PM. We had a wonderful day of scooting around on the rented Harley and took it back 'bout an hour ago. It's been a real adventure runnin' around over here on a bike. Driving is a different experience for sure. Got yelled at a few times but mostly no problems. People here shore like their horns though. We saw parts of the city you wouldn't get to see in a car or on the tours. Lotsa real nice folks out in the neighborhoods and we found good food everywhere. Oh yeah, somethin' I wanted to tell ya. Don't feel too awful bad 'bout the gas prices in the US. We've been payin' almost 7 dollars a gallon here. It's measured in liters and I can't remember the amount in Euros right now so I averaged it to 'merican. You don't see many big cars or pickups here and some neighborhoods share cars. Most workin' folks use public transits. Some of the employees at our hotel have pooled their money and bought one car that they use to get them all to work. In the mornin' we hop a plane outta here headin' for Dublin. Looks like the weather there is gonna be a bit more damp and cool. We've contacted some cousins of Jays there and are all set up with a place to stay. Those folks wouldn't hear of stayin' in a hotel. We'll be stayin' in a big house 3 kilometers outside of Dublin that's owned by one of Jays relatives. It's just him and his wife living there and they have seven bedrooms. We're havin' a good time but miss all y'all back home and we're both startin' to Jones some for flyin'. You can tell that by the way we're both startin' to talk a lot 'bout gettin' home and takin' our helis out. We were standin' by the Trevi Fountain this mornin' tossin' in coins and got off into yakkin' 'bout how fun it would be to fly our helis around the square there. I taught my Momma how to use the chargers and safety bags before we left and she'll get the packs charged up from storage level on the 27th, the day we fly for home, so they'll be ready to go. Mr Mack, You look way too happy standin' theah next to "Molly". Wowsers, she's 'bout to pop outta that dress. Too much in a small bag theah. Girl like that's cheatin' two other girls outta somethin'. Like Jay says, "girl like that's hard to look in the eyes". Glad I don't hafta pack all that around. Probably why she needs the cart. Somethin' to lean on and catch her breath. Hay, gotta go. We're out the door to enjoy our last dinner in Rome and Jay's made reservations at Salotto 42 on Piazza di Pietra. A real classy place Our hotel consierge says it's a good place to run into celebrities and the food is unmatched. Maybe we'll get to see somebody famous. Please be safe healthy and happy, Jay and Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Yoooo hooooo hellllooooo way over theah, Can ya hear me OK? It's a long ways. There's a computer right in our hotel room and I've finally figgered out how to use this internet over here. It's easy now that I know there's a little icon up in the corner to change the screen to English. I can now say I've been on the longest flight of my life. Wowsers, long time on a plane. We're safe and sound in Rome and I'm all big eyed over it all. This is a dream come true for me. I'm still shaking off some of the jet lag but the excitement of being here is compensating. We're stayin' at the Royal Palace hotel on the Piazza Di Spagna right smack in the middle of the city. The weather here has been purrfect so far. We're within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain. Already been there, tossed in some coins (made wishes for y'all back home) and let the spray of that special water get my hair wet. 'Sposed to be a blessing. I'm already feelin' blessed though. Today we're gonna go see the Spanish Steps and Augustus' Mausoleum. We've found a place here to rent a Harley and are gonna do that tomorrow. We'll scoot around to see the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. We have directions from our hotel staff to some real nice places to eat and will just do some random exploring on our own. I never in my life even imagined I'd be runnin' around Rome Italy on a Harley. Jay surprised me with that. I was a bit 'spicious though when he insisted I pack my ridin' clothes. In case you're wonderin' we checked with the embassy here and the Italian government recognizes U.S. drivers licenses. If we stay for more than 30 days we'd have to get an Italian license. Have to tell y'all 'bout a cute and funny thang that happened this mornin'. Jay and I were walkin' some this mornin' just to soak in some of the local culture. An obviously American couple approached us with a rumpled map and started trying to ask us somethin' from an Italian phrase book. We grinned at each other and when I told them in my best exagerated Lousiana accent that we spoke real good English it kinda shocked them. Apparently my skin and hair color had them thinkin' I was a native Italian. We all had a good laugh over it and we invited them to join us for a cappaucino at a little nearby sidewalk cafe. We had a nice visit and went our own ways. Cool, we made some new friends and have contact info for back in the States. Thank you all for all the nice words and wishes. Means a lot coming from y'all. So far it's been a surreal experience for me. Everything from the ceremonies, having all the kinfolk around and bein' in a country I've dreamed about all my life. I've heard my Momma and her parents talk about different kinds of happiness for years. One of those is called "heart happy". I think I know what feelin' they've been talking about now. K, y'all, gotta go. I could go on a lot here but we're out the door to explore the city around the hotel and find some authentic Italian vittles. Love and miss all y'all, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hidee doodles good humans, Welp, the Catholic ceremony is done and the flowers have been thrown at the single ladies. The Cajun version is done (yep, we jumped over a broom) and the reception is in full swing. The Native American ceremony will begin just before sunset. So, we're married, hitched and tonight will be considered one by The Spirits. This last week has been a whirlwind and I'm kinda ditzy from it all. It's been so much emotion and fun. I'm excited 'bout tonights ceremony. It'll be full of traditional stuff with lots of deerskin clothes, drums, ceremonial fires, dances and something to remember for life. Can't wait for my Granpa to step out in his full Chiefs regalia. Jay has a nice buckskin outfit that looks hot on him and has all his recitations memorized. My dress is a thang of beauty. My Momma modeled her dress for the Irish folk a little while ago and WOWSERS, she's a hot little squaw fer shore. Some of them Irish boys 'bout fell offn their chairs. My Daddy's eyes showed some real pride in that lady. Oops, I've been caught sittin' here on the 'puter. Better go join the rest of the folks 'afore they drag me out theah. We'll be headin' for Atlanta tomorrow morning and will be flyin' our way towards Italy by late evenin'. Probably won't be on here again till we get back to the states. Love y'all and please be safe, healthy and happy. See ya when we get back, Mr. and Mrs. Huff (tickles me to write that)

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hellooo everybody, It's a really nice day here and there's family members arriving by the numbers. Jays sis, her hubby and elder brother got here this morning and his twin's just two hours away. His elder brothers wife was in Philly visiting some of her family and is on a plane heading this way. The two younger brothers should get here tomorrow. We got my tribal dress done about two hours ago and my Gramma gave me her feather hair piece that she wore when she got married to go with it. It's so beautiful and I'm very honored. Now we're all ready for everything. Finally, some time to goof off. Jay will be back from his latest session with Grandpa in a bit and we will be settin' up to fly the 500s for awhile. I got the LiPos and four chargers set up this mornin' on a bench next to the boathouse and they're refreshin' the batteries. They should be ready to go. It's beginnin' to take on a party atmosphere around here now with tables full of folks in the yard visitin' and gettin' to know each other. Talk about your contrasts. My family with their dark eyes, hair and olive skin. Jays kin with their red hair, green eyes and fair skin. My Daddys kin with their brown and blonde hair, blue eyes and tanned skin. Really cool to see and fun to think about how the three cultures are being merged. My Momma is as thrilled as I've seen her for a long time. She and Jays sis have hit it off real good and have been constant companions all day. There's lotsa laughin' and back slappin' goin on with the menfolk. It's a good thing to see. Later Jay and I have a plan to fire up the Harley and sneak out for some quality time together. There's some wooded country North of here we want to disappear into for a while and relax. It's a kind of tradition with my people for the "brave' to kidnap the 'squaw' before the marriage for a day or two and we may just do that. Part of that is a mock gathering of the tribes 'braves' to ride out on a search. That'll include the men from the other families too and will likely end up bein' a gatherin' of the warriors at one of the local pubs to lament the fact that they couldn't find the missing 'squaw'. We're thinking of getting a room somewhere up in the woods and spending the night up there. The 'squaws' will have their own little party at the house. K, y'all, gotta go for now and greet guests. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica and Jay

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hay y'all, Got a minute or two to myself here so I wanted to say hiya. Whewie, been a whirlwind of things lately. 'Bout got all the planning done now though and can start to relax for a few days. My granpa has more or less taken possession of Jay so I haven't had much time with him. He's bein' 'schooled' intensly. Yesterday I saw him and grandpa down by the water sittin' crosslegged across a small fire from each other. Grandpas hands and mouth were goin' and Jay was watchin' like he was in a trance. I think he's actually enjoyin' all this and I can tell he's absorbin' a lot of stuff. Today is stormy here and it looks to be for tomorrow too. The big day (8th) is predicted to be real nice. I hope our luck holds on the weather. If not though, we have a backup plan for an indoor ceremony. The tribal ceremony will happen oudoors no matter what the weather. That's tradition. 'Less, of course, it's lifethreatenin' and then it will be on another day. By day after tomorrow it looks like all the arrangements will be done and there will be some nice weather. We hope to do some flyin' then. Family members will be startin' to arrive on thursday night and things will get busy again. Between my folks, aunts and uncles and cousins we've made places for all of Jays family to stay. This is gonna be so much fun seein' the meetin' of the Irish clan with the tribe. Two radically different cultures mixin' it up for a few days. Should produce some real interestin' stuff. K, mommas waitin' to go get some of the fixins for tonights dinner stop by a place here to get some deerskin to make my tribal ceremony dress from. We'll be busy cuttin, stitchin and beadin' tonight. All the females of the family are to be involved in the makin' of the dress so it'll be a buncha them and one of those 'women' things the guys will avoid. The dress is 'sposed to be 'top secret' from the groom anyway. I better git ta gittin'. Miss y'all, miss flyin' but it's all happy days. Hope yours are too. Please be safe, healthy and happy, Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Happy happy Easter everybody, We finished the online meet of the families 'bout 2 PM and now are gettin' ready to throw those turkeys at the crowd. It's lookin' and smellin' real good here right now. My surprise rice dish is all done and dished up in an ol' fashioned iron kettle I found in mammas pantry and ready for scoopin'. K, I can't wait any longer. My gig in Kansas City has been cancelled so I have just this next week in Baton Rouge and then a stretch of time off. I've informed the bosses that I intend to take a 30 day hiatus beginnin' May 1st. We got the families together to plan out how to get them all together here in Farmerville startin' on that day. We have arrangements made for my daddys younger brother, a preacher, to perform a marriage ceremony here in my folks yard right next to the lake. Yep, Jay and I are gonna do it. Sunday May, 8th is the day and on Wednesday May, 11th we'll be leavin' the truck, trailer full of helis and Harley at my folks place. We'll be drivin' my car to Atlanta. We have plane tickets from there all the way to Rome, Italy where we will honeymoon till the 20th. Then, as a bonus, we're flyin' to Dublin, Ireland and will tour that country for a few days lookin' up some of Jays long not seen relatives. We'll come back to the US on the 27th. After that we'll just spend some time hangin' out with my folks untill my company lets me know where they need me next. Probably don't need to tell ya, but I'm all agoggle right now. I'm ready to be called Mrs. Huff. I better quit here or my excitement will make me gush on and on. (Giggle) Jay just said to tell y'all he aint scairt, really, realizes what he's doin', don't worry and he needs a drink. Gotta go, a big buncha people are gettin' to the vittles ahead of me. Bye y'all.

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hellooo theah y'all[:D], Wishes of the happiest Easter and the days that follow to you from all of us here. We're havin' a great time here in Farmerville. Been spendin' lotsa time with family members and eatin' some real good home cookin'. There's nineteen family members here this year. Some from other states couldn't make it this time. Dinner today was cooked out in the yard on three grills and a fire pit. There was tons of ol' fashioned veggie dishes to go with the blackened pork chops from the grills. From the fire pit came some of my Daddys famous fish fillets of various kinds wrapped in foil with butter, black pepper and his secret mix of herbs and spices. Oooohh my goodness, they were to die for!!!! For Easter dinner tomorrow there's four huge turkeys all thawed out, wrapped in burlap with my Mommas mix of herbs and spices. Those'll be cooked in the firepit too. And, more of the yummy side dishes to go with them. I ran into town today and got the fixin's for a rice dish I learned from one of the girls I work with in Baton Rouge. It's a classic Cajun style spiced dirty rice pilaf that has lotsa green and red peppers, brown sugar, cracked black pepper and whole cream in it. We had it on one of our picnics in Baton Rouge and it's one of those foods that makes you make those sounds one makes when their mouth is in heaven. I'm surprisin' all the women folk here with it so I can show them this little redneck girl can really cook. We did some showin' off today for the folks gathered here. Got out both 600s, fired up those nitro motors and flew the feathers off those birdies. We treated them to some of our synchronized flyin with the 500s too. That was real popular with the audience. All total, we used up a good 2 1/2 hours flyin'. Tons of fun. Been whoopin' it up purty good tonight and havin' some real good rum concoctions one of my uncles makes from Captain Jack with a little dab of honey added and some lime juice. I have no idea what he calls them but I do know I'm kinda buzzed. Best get some sleepin' done as I have to be up in time to help with the cookin' and such. Jay's feelin' the rum too and he's ready to head for the crash pad. Tomorrow we'll be goin' video on the web and gettin' Jays family together with mine. That should be fun and interestin'. Because of some changes in my work schedule somethin' that includes both families needs to be planned. It's gonna be good news and we'll let y'all in on it after it's planned. JD, you've probably already guessed what it is as we spoke of it in e mails a while back. Shhhh now, help us keep the surprise. See y'all real soon. Please be safe, healthy and happy. Jay and Donica

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Well hi theah you buncha good people, Mostly workin', some Harley ridin' and flyin'. That's my story lately. Been out with the 'girls' a coupla times lettin' Jays 'boys' chase them around some. And, they've been doin' some chasin' of their own too. We had the 600s out yesterday for a romp and they both ran like fine swiss watches. We've got mine tuned to the point now that it just purrs. Jays is runnin' just as good. I'm gettin' a bunch more comfy flyin' the nitro and fallin' in love. I really like the power and noise. We'd taken the trailer this time so we had all our 'kids' with us and really tore up some air. One of Jays LiPos for his 500 is beginnin' to act like it's run it's course though. It won't last as long as it did and gets warmer that the others. Time to recycle and replace I guess. All of our packs have had a lot of use now and we plan to order in a bunch of new ones. The LiPos for the radios have a lot of charges on them too so we'll probably get a coupla new ones at the same time. I did a lot of my usual sport flyin' yesterday. I need to git busy figgerin' out a new combo of some kind to try. I'm thinkin' maybe something involving more upty sidey down stuff and some of my favorite, hard climbing with some kind of flippity move at the top. I'll use the sim to work it out and then teach it to one of my 'girls'. Probably the 500 'cause she's my favorite and we get along so good. Hoooweeeee, y'all got all technynickel on here again. I love it when you boys get ta talkin' in the clouds thataway. Reminds me of how smart y'all really are. Jay is serious now about workin' up some kind of connection thingie that works. I know he can get a little too complicated in his thinking when he gets into his technology jones though. I've been listenin' to his goin' on (don't take that wrong, I enjoy every bit of it) and I'm tryin' to get him to think simpler for now. He can work up to somethin' fancier as time goes by. He humbly agreed tonight and is workin' his brain cells on some things that look to be nice. I've peeked over his shoulder at his sketches and I can see where he has erased some long skinny lines and some little squares. I'm bettin' he'll be comin' in one day soon with a little bag of thingies to start puttin' together. My way of thinkin', why not just a switch. Plug in the battery and let the switch take the abuse from the poppin' and sparkin'? Use one that's cheap and easy to replace. Wouldn't that be easier than rebuildin' battery plugs and wires? Just my simple country girl thinkin' though. Hay Matty, Thanks for checkin' on us. Been some real nasty weather in the vicinity lately. We've been lucky here and it's mostly missed us. Our weather has been dreamy. How 'bout over there on that side of the planet? Turnin' to spring yet? Get your new digs set up? Somethin' I kinda miss on the road is havin' a kitchen to play in. I love to cook. Mistah JD, Real happy to know you didn't get the worst of the weather. Boyo, did Raleigh ever catch it. Parts of Mississippi too. Seems our beloved South is in the path of the bad stuff this year. Oh nooo Mack, That's sad 'bout your poor heli. I'm sure you'll step right up and get it fixed though. I thank y'all for your nice comments 'bout my savin' my heli from a crunch. Makes me feel good when you commend my flyin'. It's you that have gotten me to where I am. It wasn't a real hard decision. When the tail wouldn't respond it was just good sense to not try to lift off. They keep extendin' my stays here a lot and that's cool. I have two more weeks here now and then I'll be headin' for Kansas City, Mo. Right now it looks like two weeks there. Jay'll be goin' back to Nebraska for part of that time to take care of some things there and make sure his place hasn't blown away. Just a few days ago they had a spring blizzard there and got six inches of snow with some real nasty winds. Talked with Debi today and most of that has already melted off and their temps are risin' some. Weird weather everywhere it seems. Gotta go and get some sleepy time. Back to work in the mornin'. Please be safe healthy and happy, Donica
