RE: Still Photography
ORIGINAL: Malcolmw How are you planning on mounting the camera internally or externally ?
that depends on the plane you plan to use and how much you want to modify from the original airframe design. On my easycub, I ususally mount it with rubberbands below the fuse around the point of CG so as not to make it unstable. A simple L angle, shaped bent aluminium plate or a thin ply serves the purpose. Drill holes in it to make it light weight yet have sturdiness. On my EZ* i remove the canopy to mount the camera on the fuse (where the canopy fits) and let the lens look downwards, turn it 45 degrees forward and your view changes. Some also make a hole in th efuse of the EZ* and let the lens point thru.

ESC interference with futaba 2.4 ghz
I plan to use Futaba 6EX Fasst 2.4ghz radio with the R617FS reciever in my EZcub. I am using a 350watt dualsky motor and also a 40 amp dualsky ESC with a 3 cell 2200mah lipo. I would like to know if the ESC or the motor can, in any way, interfere with the reciever and cause any type of malfunction that could result in crash or loss of the plane. thanks in advance .c

RE: Still Photography
I always prefer to use the servo to trigger the shutter. Very cheap, easy and fool proof. all my AP is done with this set up. i use the 5gm or 8 gm servos. they work just fine. never had any trouble

RE: easy to fly
Many variables there. Both airplanes and helis, have good beginners models where you can learn and gain profeciency. In planes if you learn on a low wing aerobatic model you most likely will feel its tough, however if you learn on slow trainers then you will find it easy. The same applies to the helis. In case of a dead stick, you can always glide down to a safe landing, but in the helis it's straight down. Again helis need more attention to detailed maintainance, as compared to planes. cost to cost if the whole plane crashes beyond repair, you just buy another trainer, for under $80, ( most likely the reciever, servos, battery and engine won't get damaged) but can't say the same for helis. Eventually its what you like. I like planes esp the scale cub, for its lazy flying ability against the helis, but now i enjoy flying them too, esp for aerial photography

RE: EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT ELECTRIC FLIGHT
So, is a 2 minute climb to 400 feet adequate? Or do you want to hit 1000 feet in 20 seconds? What performance level do you want? AP is an application that tells me NOTHING about the performance level you require.
okay, so it was a matter of misunderstanding, i get your point now. The added weight for AP is what i supposed meant the performance. How ever you take that as the application, and the speed and climb as the performance. Now i see your point. thanks, do keep adding your knowledge. It helps people like us understand things better. thanks again.
ORIGINAL: aeajr Of course that depends on what performance you want, which you did not state.

what power set up will i need for the multiplex easycub that i want to use for AP.
thank you for your reply. I have already stated that the cub will be used for AP, i.e. aerial photography. i have gone thru your writings and i have to complement you, that my knowledge of electrics has been phenominally enhanced , thanks to you again. now my confusion is about the amperage, voltage, wattage kv, that are mentioned or not mentioned on the specification by the company. then what is the way out. see the links below. http://www.multiplexusa.com/power_and_servo_packs/power_packs/gemini_easy_cub_power_pack.php here the is Himax 2816-0890 Brushless Motor, where the dimension is 28 x 33, then why 2816? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7992&Product_Name=Turnigy2836_brushless_Outrunner_1200kv. we know the voltage, where's the current mentioned? what do we do? can we rely on the vendors word? what if there's a typographic error? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7076&Product_Name=TGY_AerodriveXp_SK_Series_35-30_1400Kv_/_470w Here the Rated Power: 470w is mentioned and in the configuration table: Power(W) 345 is written. How does a novice like me understand. If you can explain this, it would benifit many. thanks again.

RE: What's Everyone Using?
Remove the canopy of the easystar and just make the camera stand. You will need to adjust the cg by moving the battery deep into the fuselage almost under the leading edge of the wing. Another way is to simply use a paper masking tape and tape the camera flush to the outer side of the fuselage. tomorrow i will take some pictures and show you. in the mean time take a look at this new video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLXbEbonc2Y&feature=channel_page

Hi, I have a multiplex easystar with stock motor and an Elecrifly 25amp ESC. At present i run it on a 7.4v 2 cell 1300mah lipo. If i use a 3 cell 11.2 volt lipo will i burn out the ESC or the motor. Your advise will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

RE: SONIC LOW WING + OS .25FX QUESTION.
Hi guys, I finally recieved and made the sonic low wing and flew it today. My observation is that its a pretty fast flyer with the OS .25 FX engine. She did an almost unlimited vertical. Stability was good and the CG balanced perfectly with the battery on the fuel tank. Had a dead stick on my second test flight and she floated like a feather. The winds were very strong and gusty, despite which she flew fine. On the whole a fantastic package for a stable, small fast and compact flyer. Thanks for the inputs.

SONIC LOW WING + OS .25FX QUESTION.
Hi all, I have gone thru almost all the post that contain the thread for the sonic low wing .25 size plane from phoenix. Most of you have used .40 or .46 with it. The .25 seems to be far less in weight and hence the need for weight at the nose. My question is has anybody flown this plane with a .25 engine esp the os .25 fx. If so, what's your take on it? Is it really so tail heavy? and underpowered with the OS .25 FX? Your feedback will help me in deciding the purchase? N.B: I already have the OS .25 FX engine with me. Looking for a plane. In india we don't have much choice. esp for the .25 class. Thanks in advance to all.

RE: Easy Star: To glue or Not to glue
Hi, Congratulations for getting one of these flying beauties. I have been using the multiplex easystar for over a year and she flies real well. With good thermals i have flown her for over 15 minutes. I too had similar apprehensions so all that i did was taped up the two halves of the easystar fuselage with cellotape(scotchtape). I have been flying since then. with no trouble whatsoever. However the tail end was stuck with glue. since i had to fix the vert. stab and the hor. stab. It occurred to me later that i could have used double sided tape for the vert.stab and horz. stab. See how it suits you best.

RE: Piecing together a Multiplex Easy Star kit
Hi setzup, Maybe my answer to you is delayed and you may have already got things going but i would like to share my humble knowledge with you . The easystar from multiplex is a very forgiving plane. I use the 7 cell battery pack for the flight.(http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUX61&P=7). The great planes 3000 mah pack would probably make the plane too heavy to get good lift. The one that i use is just fantastic for the plane. I have flown for about 30 mts or more on a good day when there are good thermals. The ESC that i use is an Electrifly 25amp (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKBF4&P=ML ) one and the motor being 400 brushed dose not need more than 15 amps esc and having a 25 amp one means that i am less likely to blow up my esc. The radio is a regular futaba skysport T4YF. and the servos are hitec HS 55. Hope this info is helpfull.

RE: Are ESC's necessary. Can we do away with them?
Thanks Guys, I knew this was the most logical way and should have been tried. Afterall this is no einstinian discovery that i mentioned. Just like what we use in tradional table fans. Just wondered why ESC's were so unique to the trade. Thanks again.

Are ESC's necessary. Can we do away with them?
Hi Guys! The purpose of using an ESC is to increase or decrease the speed of the motor that rotates the propellor. Consider this!!!!-----Instead of using an ESC, what if you put an additional servo and connect that to a potentiometer(suitable in size and electronically compatable), which in turn is connected to the motor!!!!!!! Wouldn't that work just as well and also save the cost of an ESC??????.... A suitable potentiometer(pot) costs a fraction of an ESC, and also no risk of an ESC blowing up. The circuit would be like this. Connect the servo to the reciever in the location where the servo operates on the throttle stick of the Tx...................Connect the servo arm to the potentiometer in such a way that on operating the throttle stick the potentiometer also functions................and finally connect the motor to the pot so that you can increase or decrease the speed of the motor by moving the throttle stick. If anyone has tried this let me know your views and if no one has tried this then first find out the pros and cons of this concept before attempting this. Those who are technically sound, please chip in with your advice. Thanks

What would be the best lube for OS .46 AX
1) Why is castor oil used as a lubricant in methanol for glow engines? 2) What happens if 2T oil is used instead of castor oil?(2T oil is the oil used in 2 stroke bikes. 2T oil is mixed directly with petrol. 3) Besides aiding cumbustion and more power output what is the role of 5% nitro in the fuel mixture? 4) If 2T oil is added instead of castor oil, what would be the effect on (a) the cumbustion of the mixture? (b)the engine in general? Can someone give suitable and technically sound advice to the above questions. Thanks.
