Axe CP 2.4 - 2 questions
Ok, I got my axe cp 2.4 about a month ago but probably only have 10 battery cycles through it just due to life getting in the way. Question 1: Ever since I got it, the tail rotor motor makes this terrible low toned squeal noise when it rotates, kinda like a seal bark actually. It seems to work but might be a bit jittery and is just plain annoying to hear when flying! Question 2: The wall charger is taking 1.5 hours to charge my drained battery. Does a nicer lipo charger charge faster or just have more features? If it is safe to charge it faster than the wall charger, are there any cheap options out there for under $30 to $40? Thanks a ton!

RE: My 7 year old son flew today
Awesome! I've got a four year old son that just loves to fly on the sim. He flies for about a minute then slams it into the ground, but he loves it and that's all that matters. He's getting better and better. I told him if he keeps progressing perhaps by the end of the summer we can buddy box. What he doesn't know is that there are two Aero Star 40 kits up in my attic I bought for years ahead to teach him how to build and not just fly. The second one is for his 16 month old sister. :-P I can't wait to experience what you've experienced!

Great Planes Extra 300S Gene Soucy - Elevator contorl throw
So I have the GP Extra 300S Gene Soucy ARF 99.9% done and just need to verify that the manual is indeed correct for such a small control throw on the Elevator. It recomends, 3/8" low rates and 1/2" High. 3D rates are only 3/4" on elevator. The other surface throws seem correct. Just want to make sure this one is too. I don't feel like taking off and not have a responsive elevator! Thanks for the help!

RE: Hobbyzone Champ..........
Brian, That plane is tiny. You need to get with a club. Here is a list of trainiers recommended by RCKen and lots of others on this board. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4537845/tm.htm These planes are on the larger side. Much larger than what you are used to looking at. The larger frame makes it less prone to wind effects and easier to see and handle. Basically they are way more stable and easier to learn on but you need space (like a club, hint hint) and an instructor that you might find at a club. (hint hint.) :-) I wouldn't buy anything till I talked to the club and see if they have a club trainier for you to try. Plus the advice of a veteran goes a long way. I loved building so I buit a Midwest Aerostar 40 for my first plane when I was 14. I'm partial to it and love that plane but there are dozens of other ARF options that would be wonderful as well on this list. Just my 2 Cents! Take your time and have fun!

First Electric with Lipo.
Hi all, Ok so I'm an intermediate pilot starting to dabble into 3D. I am very interested in trying a foam FlatOut Cap580 or 300S from great planes. I've never done the electric thing let alone the Lipo thing. I'm just trying to get a "cheap" way to step outside and practice some 3D on a moments notice. I've been reading and reading but I still have some questions. I am looking to at this Lipo and power setup: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJTK1&P=0 - Plane http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKBF2&P=0 - ESC http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNYH8&P=SM - Battery I am at a loss at what kind of basic charger I need. I have also read that I need to balance the battery. Knowing that I'm not trying to get too in depth wit this stuff, what's the best charger/balancer combo out there for the price? I just need basic. Also It looks like there are 10 different kinds of plugs for this stuff so I'm confused on what adapters aI would need. Is it possible to run the Flat Outs on NiCDs or NiMH like this one? It's an ounce heaver than the rcommended weight. Is that a massive issue? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGBM1&P=M I already have the charger for these types of batteries and would save me a lot of money. Thanks for the help!

Thanks Zulu. It will probably be a few weeks till I get the chance to re-maiden her for this year since Indiana still has a bit of snow cover and we're supposed to get more this week..Thanks for the advise. I will certainly look at the elevator trim setting when I get home in the morning.

RE: CG on the GP Corsair .40
Zulu, It flys. I've only flown it once about 10 months ago and it was cold out so I didnt want to put too much time on it. Then life got in the way and prevented me from flying it anymore last year. Anyways, if I remember correctly I kept it a little hot and high just to be safe but didn't do too much more than putter around the sky. Really I just want it to be a fun plane. No areobatics needed for this plane, I've got others for that sort of stuff. My landing was hot and I just want to loose a little weight before I try to land again. Thanks for the help!

CG on the GP Corsair .40
Hi folks, Just need some input on the Great Planes Corsair 40 CG. I built and flew this plane once last year and it looks great and flys well but is way heavy. I did to many mods to it, but you live and learn. That's what the hobby is about. Anyways she weighs in at 8lbs. Heavy for this bird. Great Planes says the CG is at 3.5 inches from the leading edge. That's where I have it balanced but I had to add a half pound of weight to the nose to do it. So my question is If I were to move the CG aft say half an inch, thus allowing me to drop a lot of weight up front, how poorly will my plane react? I'm just trying to tame down the landing speed a bit. Note: I balanced this plane with my retracts up, which is why this is plane needed so much weight up front. Was this correct? Obviously with the gear down the CG changes drastically towards the front. Thanks!

RE: BTE's new Venture 60 kit
This is great news! The BTE Venture is, I feel, a great plane to build. All of the comments above about how well the kit goes together are spot on. The directions, fit and precision of each piece is perfection. My mistake: I built this kit as my second kit ever and got spoiled. I just assumed that all kits were this clear and well done. I've built a few great planes kits since than and they don't compare. I was sad the day Bruce took the Venture offline just because I knew so many were going to miss out on this beautiful plane. Now they have their chance! Mine flies like a speed demon with an OS 61FX on it. Sweet plane and well worth even the $200 that the one poster estimated his would cost.

RE: Automotive paint
PSU, Oops right, I know what I meant I just wrote it wrong. I have to land a bit hotter than normal. My Magnum 70 (which has 1/2 gal of fuel through it) sitll had a horrible time idleing and the throttle would vary 100 to 200 rpms just sitting and any throttle level. I decided to try my hand at adjusting the valves for the first time (first 4 stroke) and it wasn't as hard as I thought! Also I started up the Magnum after the adjustments and she seems to perform so much better now. It responds better to my low end screw adjustments, the top end is strong and consistent and it holds steady wherever the throttle is now. Now if only this rain and wind would subside for a day or two. . .

True P-40. Live and learn though I guess. The only thing left to do is to fly. If she goes down in a blaze of glory I'll be sure to have it on HD video and take lots of good pics. Come to think of it. . . I'll be doing that even if she lands safe and sound! [:D] I'm still proud of her either way.

RE: GP Corsair .40 is now ready to maiden
It got heavy with some reinforcement for retracts, retracts and servos, solartex covering and paint plus 7 ounces on the firewall to make her balance. Am I in big trouble? I'm going to use a 2-blade 13-6 by the way not the 3blade shown.

GP Corsair .40 is now ready to maiden
Well It's done. She's ready to fly. I hope flies half as well as she looks. I'm concerned about weight. She's coming in at 8.2 lbs. with a Bearings for most Magnum engines. High quality at lowest prices. RC-Bearings.com Magnum .70 up front and I had to add 7 ounces to the nose to balance her. I have We can supply retracts for 400/450 and 500/600 size helicopters. retracts which added to this weight issue. I have well over 200 hours in this thing and want her to fly so badly! I can handle "enough" power to shoot holes in the sky. I don't want to do unlimited vertical or crazy aerobatics just putter around and look good. I have other planes for that sort of stuff. Am I in trouble with this weight and engine combo? Aside from putting a .91 FS in it, what else can I do except go full throttle and take off?! My stall speed is going to be decrease a bit correct? RE: whats a good kit for beginers?
The Midwest Aerostar 40, hands-down. Easiest and fun to build This plane has got a great manual written for beginners, with great illustrations, Let's put it this way: I built this kit 15 years ago as my first kit. I was 14 years old and my parents had absolutely nothing to do with it except kept driving me to the LHS! It's still flying today, Link http://shopmidwestproducts.com/-strse-123/Aero-dsh-Star-.40-Aerostar-Model/Detail.bok Better hurry though. This kit version is being discontinued. I believe in this kit so much I bought 2 more for my kids to build someday.

RE: Automotive paint
The spray gun must be a regional deal or it's going out of stock because they had a TON of them for $14.99. It sprays like I paid $100 for it. It looks just like this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90977 but with no reg. i bought the reg there for $7. Those are still great deals for spray guns though! I might go back and buy another just to have around.

RE: Automotive paint
Stevenmax, That stinks about the harbor frieght gun. Mine had a whole wall of them for $14.99. If you don't have a real strict time-table PM me your info and if you like I'd ship you one for whatever it costs me. I'm guessing I could do it for 30 bucks once I got the small filters and the small regulator that goes with it and of course shipping. . Let me know, it is about 30 minutes away so I have to be that direction. MIght be a week or two till I got that there again. I will also post a detailed outline of what I did soon but it wasn't reallt that hard. I'm hoping to maiden maybe the week after next. All depends on that weather. I want it to be near perfect flying conditions. I don't want a rouge wind gust to catch me off guard when I'm just trying to get her airborn!

RE: Automotive paint
Just an update on my painting progress. We masked and paineted the intermediate blue last night. My buddy got sick overnight so I decided to venture off on my own tonight and go for shooting the white underbelly. I think it turned out pretty good for a first time painter like me. I am quite pleased. Now it's on to decal application, final ballancing and testing so I can maiden her later this month!

RE: Three- line setup
Wonder, I get the standard three line setup and outlined in this article. However on the Great Planes Tank, there is a vent forged plastic nipple that goes to my muffler, then directly underneith another but closed forged plastic nipple for fill (I guess) that you can snip to open up, the the singgle stopper an nipple that go to the carb. This article does not address this issue. Here's a pic of the tank I have. Any suggestions? Well it basically looks like this, They have changed the stopper nut assembly but no change to the fill design.

Anyone know how to do a three line fuel setup on a Great Planes 10oz tank? It has a sealed hard third nipple that is supposed to be for this purpose (I guess) The problem is that you cant get a pickup tube on the back side of it. How can you get the fuel out if this is the case? Is there something I'm missing? Also what manufacturer of fuel dots do you guys use? Links would be great! Thanks all!
