ORIGINAL: TexasSkyPilot Captinjohn,   Those are all photos I found during my researching of the Monocoupes online.  I think I have some more here too, I'll publish a few up.  These coupes all have different engines and all fly very well.  Quite a few have 26CC, a few have 40CC, a couple of 28CC, several have Saito 1.80s, and one guy stuffed a 46CC into one.  It landed kind of hot

Hey Thanks guys, I have replaced some weak looking control horns, ect. I want to make sure she is really up to some power on that bird! I did start the engine just before dark to see how the throttle set up works. That worked fine, but boy I had to prime the beast to get it running. It was fine after I got her going though. Also I richened the idle just a tad...its cold here in evening!!!! Capt,n

I finally found a manual for my Midwest GilesG202 and I think I better seal the hinge gaps on the control surfaces like the manual says. This DLE 30 is going to make it fast. WHERE can I get this clear sealing tape for this? Would some kind of clear 3M tape work by making the trailing edge non-stick-able by placing sticky side...to sticky side? Thanks Capt,n[X(]

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
ORIGINAL: TexasSkyPilot I like the Bulldog too, but it's not a great example of a good-flying Golden-Age Racer, at least not the one they have in the RealFlight.  I still like the looks of though and I put up with its crappy flying characteristics because of the ''cool'' factor.  Since nobody else is usually around when I'm on the RealFlight sticks, I guess I must think it's pretty cool! I've been really researching this PAC Aero Clip-Wing and I'm REALLY impressed, but oddly, there are not many reviews about it out there.  I think that I'm going to do a building review on it as I build it, since I'm 100% positive that I won't be sidelined on this project by anything.   Not by anything that wants to live, I guess I should say.   Anyway, I think the Syssa 30CC and this Clipped-Wing will be a great combo, and I'm big on taking lots of photos, and my digital camera takes excellent shots that show up great here in RCU.   Now.  All I need is the plane.  Oh yeah, and ....the engine.  Wonder where I could get one of those.......?  I have a Photo of one.....   Jimbo
What engine do you have in it in the photos...it appears to be flying...or is Realflite sim photo? RE: Aerovate 28cc - Redux
The distributor for the engines and I can explain the differences. RCGF is an Asian engine manufacturer. I am a distributor for them. Early on (going back almost 3 years), I started distributing the engine as RCGF engines in North America. We have our repair and warranty facility set up (BJ's Model Engine Service), and everything we do is done here in the USA. If you bought one of our engines, it was supported locally. As our sales grew our warranty and repair facility started getting engines for warranty that were listed as RCGF BUT our Company had not sold them. They were being dumped in North America through E-Bay and other Asian resellers. These companies and were telling their customers that WE would cover their warranty work. OKAY some further explanation is needed. RCGF manufacturers different grades of engines depending on the country. The engines they sell in Asia are radically different than what is sold here in the States. For example.. cheaper bearings OR bushings instead of bearings, second run cylinders and pistons. That is their market over there. RCGF would make an Asian buyer sign a contract that they would not sell here, but somehow they do find there way over. So now, in North America, you have a developing brand name that has a variety of quality and build levels and NO WAY to tell them apart. The RCGF engines that I was distributing were radically different in quality and performance specs as to what others were getting. And this was getting out of hand. Oh.. and to add insult to injury, we also started getting clones... Sellers who would use OUR engine pics and sell the engines but deliver another totally different engine that was absolutely substandard and basically garbage. They even had the balls to put them into the RCGF boxes!!!! This situation was happening to other brand names too, but I was getting ALL the crap from the RCGF clone customers... . The customers were told that their warranties would be honored by our Company. Yeah right..... To put a stop to this, we had to start differentiating the engines that we were bringing in. Our engines were being built to our specs by RCGF. That means that when an engine was received by one of our customers, the engine they received was one that was built to North American expectations and that there was a Company that would stand behind the engines and with the customer. The customer does NOT have to deal with a foreigner that in most cases would not reply back, and they have a North American source for information and support. To differentiate, we called the engine Aerovates by RCGF. The Aerovate Engine line was/is produced by RCGF and built to our standards. Our dealer network buys from us and sells them as the Aerovate by RCGF. Our service center will only provide warranty for these engines and dealers. Working with the Asians is not an easy task. Different culture, different standard of thought, and quality aspects that are quite radical. I have been working with Asian businesses for well over 30 years and I understand (not totally yet either!!!!!) what needs to be communicated and more importantly how. But it is a difficult and strenous undertaking. You can ask ANY distributor of products that deals with them. There are more sad and horrific stories of North American businessmen losing hundreds of thousands of dollars and MORE because they were unaware of how the "system" works. Yes it is quite unforgiving. If one knows how to maneuver there, it is a tenuous task that takes energy and commitment. The Aerovate line up by RCGF came about and was happening. In the meantime our company and YD Models of Australia got together a couple of years and ago and started working together. At the time we were both distributors of the RCGF Engines and in fact we were big contributors in terms of engineering and design to the engines that RCGF are producing. We saw lots of opportunity, but the Asians can be very very stubborn. Steve (of YD Models) can tell you that we were a very short time away from making RCGF engines a major engine line. RCGF decided to take another direction a very poor one we thought. Steve and I decided that it was high time that we take our experiences as engineers and entrepreneurs, and use the information that we were freely giving to RCGF and use it for ourselves and our own Companies. From this YD-A Engines was born. The idea is that these engines are to made in the west with limited/minimal parts from Asia. Design, parts manufacturing, assembly could be controlled and done to the standards that are expected in the West. We came out with the YD-A series of engines. These engines are/will be made in Australia and in North America (next year). Our idea is to produce a premium engine line up that can be marketed to modelers across the west. Total control remains with us. We own the molds, and the design, and we outsource very limited items. We are flyers too and we understand the needs of modelers, so we can respond quickly to the needs of the customer. So now we have Aerovates by RCGF, YD-A engines (our own line), and we have another OEM factory like RCGF that is producing engines for us under contract. This is JC Engines. This is our RC Aero line up of engines. We are working very closely with JC Engines on a couple of engines, like the 28cc engine. The are building engines to our requirements. RCGF could not produce a powerful 28cc engine, and YD-A Engines is just launching its own 56cc and 112cc engines with a couple of more on the drawing boards. Both Steve and I see market areas and we want to fill these with quality best in class engines. That is why we OEMing from JC Engines for now. Our idea is that when you buy an engine from us, regardless of where it was manufactured, it will be quality product, with a best in class performance envelope, and one that will be supported with people who speak english, are local (to North America or Australia I mean) and understand the needs of the customer. As our own YD-A stable of engines grow, our dependency on the Asian OEM's will decline. We know that we can do it better. My Company (which advertises on rcuniverse), will continue to bring in OEM engines from RCGF and JC under our own Company name and brand (RC Aero ), and we will continue to develop our own YD-A engine name brand too! So when you see Aerovate, RC Aero and YD-A, you know that they are being supported in the West by RC Aero Products LLC and YD Models of Australia. Future works include dropping the Aerovate name plate (it is also an UAV company that we have hooked up with and looking to work with in the future), and focusing on the RC Aero and YD-A Engines exclusively. (don't worry we will continue to support our Aerovate customer base for the long foreseeable future). We will see something on that shortly I am sure... Regardless, as karolh so aptly words it... the big thing is that the support will be there and that the engines will be best in class. Steve and I will not carry anything except a best in class product. We don't want to confuse the customers with different engine names, but unless you differentiate yourself, the junky products and suppliers will find a way to attach themselves to you for their short term profits and get out and leave you with the mess. So in summary...... 1. YD-A Engines - - our in-house engines that we are designing, manufacturing, assembling and marketing here. To be made in Australia and soon North America. 2. RC Aero - our OEM engines made for us by JC Engines 3. Aerovate - our OEM engines made for us by RCGF - (note YD Models of Australia does not carry this name brand). All the above engines are marketed, sold and supported locally under our umbrella. Cajun1 - I see you bought the Aerovate 20cc from TBM. They are one of our dealers and we do support them!!! You are well taken care of. TBM is an excellent company to deal with and we are honored to be part of their family too. I hope this clears things up a bit for you.... Cheers Henry GOOD WORK HENERY Best Regards Capt,n

Hello Speedy, do not pay any attention to guys that just waste the space here. I wish I lived close to you and could work together on machining a new rear case. That piece does not hold the rear bearing, so no big deal for alignment. It looks like the right size of passage from carb base and maybe a machined flat place for reeds to seal on would be a good start. A person could make the first part & if you wanted too remove it and modify it Well gotta go to supper. Take Care Capt,n[;)]

RE: New HOW TO Posted: How to Install Robart Hinge Points
These Robart Hinges may be ok for very large airplanes. I just installed some, but I see a drawback already. If damage is going to happen near hinge it is going to be a hard fix. Also I like the flatt klett type of hinge that can be removed easy if you want to change or repair the control surface. Also a electric a slotting tool makes it fast to install them. Capt,n[;)]
ORIGINAL: mstam1971 You never know what DLE comes up with. It's easier for them to change the casting for the intake to decrease volume. Only issue for customers is when they replace the backplate, the cylinder gasket can get damaged.
I agree, and I have got gaskets loose (quite tight ones) by carefully using a single edge razor blade and "free" it up a little around the side you want loose. Works for me!!! Capt,n
ORIGINAL: PlaneKrazee Capt, Looks like the crank is spinning in the rear bearing on the MB290.
You are right on. The bearings was so loose you could wiggle the prop several thousands in any direction. The prop hub was too long also making things worse on a cheap front & rear Bearing. It is the same engine in video ( running ) on RCU in the most recent upload. I bought it at a offered low price. Previous owner said it was a return. All in all it was kinda a fun experiment. RE: NEW DLE30!
Jody, I did ask for photos, not to see what was modified. I asked why people that have the engine apart if they have or could post more photos of the inside parts. The intent was to build a data base of data where-as people that view theses photos may be able to help to come up with a re-design. A re-design could be in the reach of some people with the talent & cnc equipment. I will take photos of my engine, later of any part and angle. Right now my goal is to get a flight in before bad weather sets in here in Mich. I am do not want any bad feelings. Just want all to share data and am not trying to put pressure on anyone. I will post a photo of a MB290 engine I got apart right now. People can see just how it all fits together. Best regards Capt,n
ORIGINAL: tkg The SKY is Falling, The SKY is Falling.......................... NOT Just got a new DL 30 SN1684. Mounted it up, MA 18x8 Classic ( I know, but its what I got), got it started, quick adjustment on the carb, let it run about 10 min. Cool it down and restart it. Do a serious adjust on the carb. So with 15 min on it, its idleing @1600 rpm. Tip it eathier way and the RPM decreases 100 rpm. The engine stays running 1450-`1500 RPM. Cool off, restart, run, repeat. Same thing. The carb idle mix is dead lean it, it will not accelerate until it warms up. This the second DL 30. I reported on the first earlier, with careful carb adjustment it is running better than the new one.
tkg, I bet that heavy prop act like a flywheel right?
ORIGINAL: Speedy-Gonzales How much work would it be to machine a new rear case from 6061-T6 aluminum stock and relocate the carb to the back? I have access to a fully equipped CNC and manual machine shop. My question is.....would this be a simple matter of machinhg a rear case using my DL-50 as a model? I would be willing to buy the engine..run 6 gallons of fuel through it...... and if I have this fuel delivery problem, after giving the engine some run time to settle down, I will relocate the carb to the rear and really give you guys something to talk about. It's winter here in Ohio. I have time to do the machining and save the programs to make new rear cases for those interested IF the mods work. [sm=50_50.gif]
Speedy, that sounds like a good idea. I wish we could get photos like when the DA & the DL was comparred on line with lots of photos of all parts. I do not know why the guys that have torn down these DLE 30 engines do not want to tell much on fixes or show the parts kinda placed in a group just how they fit together...ect. A PISTON QUESTION
HI Guys: I was wondering about this piston I posted a photo of a DLE30 piston(not my engine) below. How may used engines have you found with this (SPS) shiny piston syndrone condition. On same piston seems like some galling or whatever. This is a DLE30cc piston with not very much run time at all. I myself have not found anything quite like it. I did find scratches in bore & on piston from hard carbon and maybe a broken ring. I know some of you guys have seen many pistons since you do engine conversions. let us know what you have seen or come up with. Thanks Capt,n
