RE: Kingtech K-170
I have a 170 kero start and love it already, after only 2 minutes on the 1st bench check startup/run-up. It was in fact my 1st kero-start start, WOW! TOO COOL! MAX ADRENALIN RUSH!!!!! I could tell a big difference from my old titan. Kingtech is the best bang for your buck by far!- IMHO. Yea, I said the same thing in another thread. I can't quit bragging about it. It has been almost 2 years since I bought mine and I worried about problems,. I also did a no-no and put it in the plane before bench running it. It was however an absolutely flawless start and run-up! Bravo Kingtech!

RE: Smoke oil?
Is diesel still ama legal? I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned it. That is what I have used., it works great for me -at $4 a gallon, on the way to the field. But I may try some fragrance oil from wallmart to mix with it, just for the smell. Anybody tried any used french fry oil from a restaurant? If it worked it would be a "green thing"! and make everybody hungry at your fly-ins.

OPPS! Thanks anyway guys, Stupid me!, I finally figured out that I had a fitting downstream in the system leaking. Fixed the leak and everything works fine now with my trusty old mini 12v portable compressor from wallmart and the stock nozzle.

BVM Air Fill Valve- How do u get air in them?
I never had any of these on previous jets. I thought I'd splurge a little and get some fancy high buck valves. So what's the trick to get air in them. I've tried everything in my shop. http://shopbvmjets.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=45&zenid=43942b407mf5o51531obu0cd54

RE: LEXAN component deck?
AF7, The lexan I'm using is 1/10th inch thick, hence more lightening holes coming.. And Scotty, you have a point but each to his own., as I said in the 1st post I am finding it a LOT easier to route (and should have said "and connect") the "spaghetti" with the deck being clear, which makes it worth it for me. Not to mention finding a leak or accidentally unplugged connector later. I'm hoping this will help me to make it look less like spaghetti and more organized when I finish it. l usually go for function more than fashion. Not so worried about the way it looks as to the how it works., If it works better for me I'm going to do it. With this size jet and the amount of extras it has (smoke, canards, gyros, thrust vectoring, etc.) keeping the components away from each other as needed (pumps, rxs ,ecu, etc.) makes for a large deck that barely fits in the hole and my huge old hands make it hard to get to stuff under the deck. If anyone ever says they don't like the way it looks I'll tell them what my Dad used to say "Don't look at it".[:D]

RE: LEXAN component deck?
Sorry, I forgot, I did also "carefully" use this little "toy" table saw for the first cuts of the main shape. This saw (from Harbor Freight) is great for lots of other modeling uses. And I am using the step drill for hole cutting after a small pilot drill.

RE: LEXAN component deck?
I've been using a dremel with an abrasive cutting disk to cut it, then sanding smooth. The only small problem is that it melts a little and you have to trim the melted material with a hobby knife before sanding. Leave the plastic protective covering on as long as possible before installing to protect from scratching. Lexan is soft and scratches easy. It is still the best type of clear material because it will not break. You can bend it double and it will not break. Other plastics will break very easy, even just trying to cut. I think you also may be able to use a sheet metal shear to cut the lexan if you have square edges, but I have not tried this since I didn't have many square edges.

LEXAN component deck?
Does anybody no of any problem/s with using lexan for the component deck? Radio interference or something I am unaware of? Yea I know it's a little heavy, I'm going to drill lightening holes when I get everything situated. I'm finding it a lot easier to route wiring and tubing under since I can see thru it. Critiques welcome as long as there good.[;)]

manual fuel shut off before or after pump?
I have a kingtech 170f kero start and the manual says to put the shutoff between the main fuel soleniod and the tubine. I have to assume since the manual doesn't say that this would require a valve on each of the 2 fuel lines after each soleniod, 1 for main fuel line and 1 for kero start fuel line. But I think I have put 1 valve before the pump in the past on other propane start tubines without a problem. Is this way going to be a problem some how? Hotstarts or something I,m not considering?

RE: End of the Rookie??
I have some spare canopys/frames and plan to make a sleeker one like Ebroens did with his super hot spot. I have 2 rookieIIs and 1 harpoon., guess I'll start trying to collect more. (IMO) Rookies are the best bang for the buck. They led the way in 3d jets. They are easy and inexpensive to build. They can be tuff to land smoothly sometimes but it is usually due to something you do wrong. If your c/g is off or you land to slow or to fast they can get goofy quick. I land them a little fast with anti-skid on = perfect every time. If I run out of rookies I'll quit flying.

BVM inside tank fuel line with big turbne ok?
If you have used it on a big turbine (160 and up) plz let me know if it works ok. It looks kinda small to me (i.d. & o.d.), but it is way more flexible than bigger tygon. Could it cause a Kingtech 170 to starve for fuel? http://shopbvmjets.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=56&products_id=52&zenid=gjvkdfp872h11am4k7recgp5m2

RE: JR12x elevon problem-need help
Tried that, apparently that will not work with this JR12x. What I am trying to achieve is a safe flyable set-up. I've tried everything I can think of. When I adjust the max I can to keep from ripping the hinges off during corner stick position I don't have near enough throw with straight stick moves.

I've tried everything suggested here and more, nothing works. I appreciate the help from those that posted but I know there is someone out there with a 12x on a delta set-up that has had this same problem, and hopefully found the cure. I tried to search for some other threads about this but no luck. BUMP

JR12x elevon problem-need help
My problem is- I set the wing type to delta, adjust the travel of each servo for max recommended up & down pitch while moving the stick straight up & down, then adjust the travel for max recommended left & right roll moving the stick straight left & right, but when I give it full right & down or up, or left & down or up, the servos go way further than where I had them adjusted to. If I adjust them to where max recommended is not exceeded during full right or left & up or down then I don't have enough throw when I just give it just up and down, or when I give it just left and right. I have had this problem before with another radio and jet but I can't remember how I fixed it. I got a new jr12x and can't figure out how to solve this problem. Any tips will be appreciated.

RE: JR12x elevon problem-need help
The recommended max throw for the surfaces is 30mm in any possible stick position. When I adjust them to that with the stick in the corners then there is not near enough throw for just straight up and down, or just straight left & right. When I adjust them to max with straight up & down stick movement, or straight left & right then they go way to far in the corners, to the point of damaging the surface hinges, not safe for flt either way.

RE: CLEVIS FAILURE :Quicker than you can count to Three
ORIGINAL: mr_matt Thanks for the links carbuncle. The 4/40 swivel you found, what is the whole size in the ball? I have never found one that had 4/40 on the link thread and #4 hole in the ball as well. maybe Todd has them And don't even try to find a #6!
The hole size is the same as the one's from Todd. Maybe .001 slop or so. I used the swivel ball ones that Todd has because he has left handed which I needed with the titanium link rods, but on the other end I used the rc4wd's because the are stouter. The stout one's that Todd has don't have a swivel ball but have a bearing so alignment must be precise with those.

The titanium rods have one end left and one right hand threaded, which is good for adjusting.. some rod ends similar to those above are not a ball but a bearing and will not swivel. The rc4wd "swivel ball" rod ends are the best I'v found, but they only have right hand threaded. You will need some small washers to space them to swivel more if needed. The one's from dreamworks are the only left hand 4-40's I have found, lube them before u move them. Use the left hand rod end on the servo arm and put the side that the ball was installed in at the factory facing away from the arm so it can't come off if it comes apart. Use the rc4wd's on the control surface double horns. Assemble with titanium screws and aluminum locknuts.
