Yep I agree it is all in the speed which I am sorting out. The front gear on mine is shorter than stock and I have never had the runway bounce thing. Our field is pretty short so normally my probablem is running off and the field is not pretty if I do that. Thanks for all the help. Mat

RE: C- ARF dealer for rookie 1
I have actually quite a few flights on my old one, the new I picked up was just a too good to pass up deal. My original one has had the nose knocked off but my body work days paid off, if the field was longer it would not have been an issue but I suspect it is making me a better pilot, or better fibreglass repair guy. My xmas list has a flash in it but I normally only get coal, I may have to dress up like santa this year.

RE: C- ARF dealer for rookie 1
I fly the old version which does not have the canards, I considered trying to fit a set but I would suspect they changed the model to accomidate them. I would think they would help quite a bit getting it slowed down and some additional control getting it into a higher alpha. If I get another jet it will be a flash I think so for now I will just fly these older Rookies until their demise. Mat

RE: C- ARF dealer for rookie 1
Yep that has been my mission lately, it does pretty well slow up high but the turns have to be easy or it seems to drop out of the sky once I get into the turn. Just need some more practice flying it dirty is all, or find a longer field. The new one I picked up the guy that had it got it off the ground and flipped it upside down onto it's back, I picked it up as a spare but the damage is pretty light. Not sure how he got so out of shape on takeoff, that seems to be the easy part. Andy has already mailed me back, and has some parts so looks like he is the guy to go to. Thanks Mat

I am running the Super Eagle, which spools pretty well unless you are at a dead idle. When I build the spare Rookie I picked up which only had 1 not so great flight in its life, I was thinking on trying the Kingtech 140 which seems like a nice value. Thats what most of the parts are for, the new one I picked up and some spares for my current one.

RE: C- ARF dealer for rookie 1
That is pretty much the approach I am taking, I have to be careful not to pull too much power off as if I have to spool up it takes a few seconds from idle. I normally come in do a down gear pass and set speed brake all at about 1/3 power, fly that power downwind and turn into cross wind. Before I am turning into final I am normally having to put in some power and am holding about 3/4 elevator to remain level. That thing scrubs off a lot if the turns are deep at that speed and drag. As soon as I have to loose altitude to come in to the field, which is not a lot, it builds speed fast. I am either going to have to come in lower or take a chance and pull off some power in the decent but I would hate to run out of elevator and power when you need it most LOL.

RE: C- ARF dealer for rookie 1
Yep it has one, even oversized, I have had it for a while now so it has not really sustained too much damage all things considered. It can be a pain to get it into a nice attitude, seems to take forever to get slowed down and then I dont want it too slow, and the feild is pretty short as well. Lately I am beginning to think I might be nose heavy as I carry some up elevator for straight flight. I would like to get good at this thing as I have 2 of them before I move into another one which I think will be a flash. Mat

RE: Couldn't get bee to start
Well last night I just could not help myself as my inquiring mind wanted to know as I have a clear tube to the solenoid and I could see I had full liquid to the soleenoid. Since I do not plan on using the onboard tank I took the bottom off and it does not have a dip tube so the system with on board is gas feed to the solenoid. Mind you my solenoid is right up front and I am pretty sure once the liquid is on the turbine side of the solenoid it would be changing to gas pretty quick as I doubt the restrictor can keep it under pressure to stop the propane from going to a gas state as Pete737 is saying. My next question will be does the same gas setting I have been running still start it with the propane vertical, that could explain why I went to such a low gas % for a smooth start up as at 10% it seemed like too much propane with a slight flame during start. My turbine never growls and starts first time every time since I dialed in the start parameters , EGT temps look good but I don't have the experiance to know what the temp ramp should be. When I get a chance I will try to see how much % it takes feeding gas to the soleniod for the same starts. Mat

RE: UAT question
Not sure if there is an esay way to run the fuel pump up for the entire fuel load? I have ran the prime function when I primed the lines but it runs the fuel pump up to full as far as I can tell but shuts down after what seems like a set time unless I just keep running the prime function for the duration of the tanks? Unless there is a way I am missing? Thanks

UAT question
Hi all I am new to turbines and have a question about a BVM UAT. My installation is 3 tanks, 1 main 78oz to a 24 oz to a 24oz to the UAT in series. The main is a long baffled tank with the clunk at the back with brass where it passes through the baffle, I have checked it once to make sure there is no tube fraying, looks okay maybe I should check it again. All tanks are safety wired not tie wraped and during ground running no air is entering. During the first few flights when I checked after the flight the UAT seemed to have no air or very little. I have since started flying a little more aggresively with more vertical down lines and such and noticed the last flight the UAT had some air in it an air bubble the width if the UAT which I am assuming is coming from clunks coming out of the fuel. The last tank was about 1/2 full after taxi in from the flight. My question is this normal for a little air in the trap or should it still be air free at the end of a flight and if it is not normal where should I start looking? Trying to prevent an air induced flame out so thought I would ask the experts. I was also wondering if it is enough concern to look at another type of UAT? Thanks

RE: Couldn't get bee to start
Socomon Did you use the onboard tank or did you feed directly to the gas soleniod like I do when starting? If you fed direct then you fed liquid which could explain the much lower start gas number compared to propane as feeding propane direct to the gas solenoid right side up will yield gas where as feeding powermax direct tot he solenoid right side up will yield liquid. I know (right or wrong) I am feeding liquid propane holding it inverted direct to the solenoid without the onboard can. I am just worried I am doing things wrong mind you the results are great LOL. RE: Couldn't get bee to start
Can I ask how you held the powermax bottle as I understand it has a dip tube which if held upright would yield liquid, unless it is the red powermax bottle which as I have read does not have a dip tube? MInd you I am new at this and couid be way out to lunch. I think I am going to cut the bottom out of my onboard tank as I do not use it and see if it has a dip tube, that should tell me if I need gas or luquid for my own piece of mind as I have been starting on liquid at 5% gas setting and I do not want to damage anything. It sure starts nice there though. Eric's above mail says hold both propane and poweramx vertical but again I have read the powermax has a dip tube, anyone know if this is true? Mat

Hi Eric I have the Eagle and when starting using a propane feed that hooks directly to the gas valve I was under the impression I had to feed liquid. In my case this would be the tank held upside down. The turbine is starting well with this procedure but I am wondering if I should be feeding gas instead of liquid, could you clarify for me should I be feeding liquid or gas to the gas soleniod? Thanks Mat

RE: Couldn't get bee to start
I am using outboard propane and do not use the on board tank. This was the recommendation that was given so I did it. I asked the question about liquid propane and when starting from the outboard tank I use it upside down and verify I have liquid to the gas solenoid. Maybe in the confusion the question was answered wrong from Eric when I asked but the way I got it was the on board tank was dip tube and had to be mounted upright so it fed liquid, not using means using the tank upside down. I know mine starts very well and ramps up like a clock at 5%. Could you please post back when you talk to Eric I am curious if my starting procedure is correct with liquid propane? Mat

RE: Couldn't get bee to start
Hey all I am new to turbines and your best bet is to give Eric a call he has been great with me. I have an eagle and use standard propane and made a hook up which is not regulated. The supplied propane for my eagle must be in liquid form so from a standard propane bottle the bottle must be held upside down to get liquid as it does not have a dip tube. This was one of my first questions to him as the manual indicated liquid propane. My starts well at 5% gas mind you I am running an igniter and not a glow plug. Again mine is an Eagle not sure if it is the same procedure as yours. Mat

RE: carf Kangaroo vs Original Rookie ground handeling?
I just purchased an original low flight time Rookie and had 2 flights on it last weekend. This is my first ever jet been doing the giant scale gas stuff for a while. I found no troubles in ground handling pointed in the take off direction and hardly had to correct during take off. The first take off I had the thrust vector off and 70% of the recommended rates as low and it ate up a good bit of field but still tracked quite well. It was out of trim needed more up elevator then the amount of reflex I had in it. Be sure you add the up elevator for reflex but do it through linkage so you have elevator trim left when flying. Second take off was much better, still tracked very well, thrust vector on, brakes to 75% power, release full power roll a bit and gone in about 100 or so feet.

Turbine question
Hi all I am quite new to turbines and have a question about normal bearing noise. I am very experianced in mechanical and electrical but with nothing to compare it to I would like a few opinions. A new turbine initial manual spin showed a little tight maybe 1 revolution to stop. Yeilded no bearing noise at all was very silent. After first few run ups seem to yeild the same result with a manual spin check. After a couple of flights I checked it again, too be safe, and now it spins more freely 2 to 3 revolutions to stop and I can here the roller bearing a whirling bearing noise that you might hear with a normal bearing. There was no vibration or tight areas, did not seem notchy. The change from new is what has me perplexed, just wondered if this is the norm after a few runs they loosen a little or is this something else like loss of preload or something? Just trying to educate myself a little. Thanks

5014 Rx Question
Good Day I have my 37.5% Yak set up with 2 5014 Rx's. I have done most of my large planes with 2 Rx's and have had very good luck. I am now using the 14 G3 original 5014's in this airplane and it has a strange behavour. The one 5014 will power up and have control from the radio almost instantly, while the second will power up (the surfaces go to neutral on that Rx's side) instantly but it takes a few seconds before they respond to the radio inputs. Odly enough it only seems to happen during the first power up of the day and all range checks are fine, seems to have no problems in the air as well as I have probably 20 flights on this installation I just can not seem to find the cause to this binding lag for the want of a better term. Any ideas, or am I being concerned over nothing? Thanks Mat

RE: 14mz mix question
I do believe that is how I set it up originally as there is no stick or trim assignment to elevator 2 so I believe I set it orginally to the correct tail type. I looked for a dedicated mix for rud to elev but did not see one. I will have another look, I do know that mixing rud to elevator in the custom mix area only moved one half. Mat

14mz mix question
Hello I have a dual elevator model with 1 servo per half. I set the model up as such when first setting the airplane type. I was doing a rudder to elevator mix to reduce belly tuck during rudder input. When I mixed rudder to elevator only the one half would respond elevator 2 would not. I tryed to find something like the 9Z had called link where I could link the elevator to elevator 2 so a single mix rudder to elevator would move both but could not find anything. I ended up using 2 mixes but would rather use 1 if I could. Is there an option to link mixes so I get away with 1 rudder to elevator mix? Thanks Mat

14MZ quirk
HI I was setting up a new model on a 14MZ air. It is a 120 deg CCPM heli and was a new model made in the radio on PCM 1024. I decided to change the functions a little as I thought it would make it easier if I decided to go to G3 so I changed channel 3 function to pitch and channel 6 to throttle. While I was setting up the heli the pitch servo would just rotate and stop working then start again, after changing RX's and swapping servo leads I determined it was channel 3 doing it and not RX or servo related. After thinking about this for a while it occured to me that I was setting it up with a 4.8V batt and it could be a ilttle low so I checked it and sure enough it was. Channel 3 was going into battery fail safe I believe. Since I moved the throttle function it was fail safeing the pitch servo which is on channel 3 now. I looked in the manual and went into the F/S menu which showed only channel 3 having a F/S set as default, but since I am running the newest software it was not quite the same as the manual. There is no way that I could see to set the Batt F/S to a new channel as there did not seem to be a column for the Batt F/S as the manual seems to suggest. I have since set the channel assignments back to default for a PCM layout. I would have assumed that the Batt F/S would follow the function assignment for the throttle if there is no way to program it to a new channel, that I could find. It also does not seem to have a way to turn off just the Batt F/S. I know most of us do not run 4.8 systems any more, mind you I still do in some heli's as the gyro does not like higher voltages and I do not have a regulator at this point. I know leaving the default function layout solves it but this could be a very critical problem if someone changes the functions and for some reason the low batt F/S kicks in in the air, so I was owndering if I was doing something wrong in the settings or is there a way to change that F/S function to a new channel? On another note I sent this radio in as I bought it used and it had quite a few issues with it that I found. I must say that the IL Futaba servce center is very good. Very good turn around times and very reasonable for the work I needed done to the radio. Very good customer service in my opinion. Thanks Mat
