steps needed to recreate this look?
[image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/96/49651_DukeNukemForever-ConceptArt-26_normal.jpg[/image] hi guys, i would like to have a body that looks like this as you can see, the body has a yellow to orange gradient, the rear 1/4 is a tattered American flag with a 'wavy' effect, and there is a radiation logo at 1/4 to the front, as well as a decorated wing perhaps this computer generated image is a somewhat accurate depiction of an RC car because it doesnt look that much like a shelf queen, altho it doesnt look like a typical beater paint scheme either... i am trying to find a simple way to do this, please tell me if something i say doesnt make sense... because the buggy itself doesnt exist in real life, its pointless to go for a 1:1 look, but i would like it to still remind people of what its supposed to represent my idea is to somehow apply the flag and the logo, then the paint scheme should be straightforward to apply behind them the first thing i thought was that they could be painted on, but it will be time consuming , especially with the flag part... another possibility is that because these are generic imagery, they might be available as decals or stickers, but they would have to cover large portions of the body, and it would be hard to find something that matches the flag, plus stickers which are flexible enough to keep to the curvatures of a typical shell would be hard to find.... i know that there is such a thing as a temporary tattoo which can be printed out of a computer, that would definitely be the most accurate way to recreate this look... my idea is to first make the tattoos as per their instructions, then transfer them onto something transparent and flexible like cling film or something.... then use some kind of spray-on adhesive to make it bond permenantly to the inside of the body...i think there is also such a thing as spray-on adhesive which is also primer, so the film will be coated on both sides with it... just to be safe i think i'll cut the tattoos out so i use the minimum amount of film then once the tattoos are on the body, i plan to mask them in so i can back them with white or some suitable colour... to get the tattered look of the flag, first i would make an intact flag complete with waviness, then after i have applied and backed it, i would then scrape out little bits and pieces of it until it looks just right from then on its another coat of the primer, and then painting the gradient , and finally finishing it by cutting out the body and stuff like removing the window masks etc, in case any cling film overlaps with a mask it would have to be cut at the seams so it wouldnt peel out with the mask as for the wing, does anyone know how to get graphics on the winglets and text at the back like that? oh oops forgot it was rated 18+ ... sorry! the 2001 trailer is family friendly tho, but it looks historical to say the least, and there has been dispute about its authenticity ::edit:: and that was before drivable vehicles were invented for games so no RC buggy either... i think i'll paint a buggy body in memory of Duke Nukem Forever, or someone else can beat me to it....

RE: Duke Nukem Forever buggy
[quote]ORIGINAL: Foxy There is actually a trailer showing some awesome Duke forever footage, which shows how close they were to completion, since it looks eminently playable (albeit still running on the ORIGINAL half life engine, and obviously looking VERY dated graphically). Bascially, I don't think they had the time or money to rewrite the game for the already aging source engine. [/quote] <sadly, link removed> it never used the half life engine, rather it used the quake 2 engine 12 years ago, then switched to the Unreal series of engines a year after that...

Duke Nukem Forever buggy
hi guys, recently one of the famous computer game companies, 3D Realms, went bust... they were working on a game called Duke Nukem Forever , anyone heard of it? basically its that game that they were working on since 1997 with the radioactive sign for a logo, and starring this guy: [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/97/49794_DukeNukemForever-02_normal.jpg[/image] anyway, the people who used to work in that company have released pictures of what would have been included in the game, so that people would at least know what the game would have looked like: [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/98/49878_DukeNukemForever-Screenshot-27_normal.jpg[/image] [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/99/49997_DukeNukemForever-Screenshot-01_normal.jpg[/image] one of the things that they did was [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/96/49651_DukeNukemForever-ConceptArt-26_normal.jpg[/image] [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/96/49652_DukeNukemForever-ConceptArt-27_normal.jpg[/image] [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/98/49863_DukeNukemForever-Screenshot-12_normal.jpg[/image] [image]http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/04/98/49861_DukeNukemForever-Screenshot-10_normal.jpg[/image] just thought i'd share this with you guys

i was looking at the chassis and i was like, lol wut? decorative 'tube' chassis effects at the BOTTOM of the pan chassis??? all it is gonna do is raise the cg by putting all the useful stuff like the battery above the fake tube frame... and all that frame looks like it will do is just get all snagged up on rough ground or get smashed to pieces if you land too hard or something.... the only reason i can think of for this arrangement, if it is meant to be a wheelie machine, like 2wd, raised cg, and that other people are meant to see under the belly? but then again it doesnt come with a wheelie bar...

about the overextending shocks on the rear... if you find more shock pistons, cant you stack them onto the shaft beneath the 'working' piston? that way the extra pistons will block the shocks from extending all the way... but not sure exactly what effect this will have

if you replace the batteries and it fixes the problem, then it must be the batteries what type of battery are you using, is it the stock battery or a better one? with brushless you need a good battery to keep up with the motor and esc

you have to remember, theyre computer gaming people, not RC people... they might not even know what type of battery the picoo uses, but all that hand eye coordination theyve built up sure comes in handy for piloting it in confined spaces... i dont own a picoo or a psp, so meh.... wish i did tho, better yet i wish i knew how to work the program so i can get the analog sticks on the psp to get proportional control or something instead of the '3x the severity' method theyre using... not to mention this allows you to get like, mixing programming ... i dunnoe, maybe to compensate for the yaw when you add too much throttle or something?

RE: picco z controlled by wireless laptop
yup, i first saw it here http://www.destructoid.com/psp-hack-control-a-hobby-helicopter-with-your-fat-psp-53709.phtml the psp has 1. an IR port already built in, 2. a community who has been tinkering away at it pretty much ever since it came out... this reminds me of back in the day , my friend had a PDA with this program in it which recorded the sequence of IR bleeps coming from a TV or hifi remote so that you could use the PDA to replace all the different remotes in your room... I bought this IR controlled car and decided to record the car's TX , and it turns out that i can actually control the car using the PDA... whats more , this TV remote program had like macros so that you could navigate thru the TV's menus to get to what you want by just clicking one button, and it was pretty cool to have a 'robotic' car , just as long as you kept the IR pointed at it...

RE: 1:1 questions
surely the foam cant be so low quality that the vibrations at high speed is enough to 'kill people'? for instance it could be very easy to make it stiffer in one direction and softer in another, like so you can make the tire compress vertically and doesnt tuck under the car.... like in normal tyres its done by using fabric under the rubber to stop the tyre from squishing in the wrong directions... with foam you dont need the fabric , and the tyre can have less rotational mass because the foam's weight is closer to the center of rotation...

1:1 questions
hi i know the title is kinda vague, but like why dont we see some of the stuff on RC on real cars? like if tyres were filled with foam , a puncture wouldnt matter so much and the tyre would also hold its shape better so the handling will improve... also, is it true that the bodies of racing cars are very similar to rc lexan bodies? like they might not be made of lexan, but their headlights and taillights are also nothing but stickers and the whole body is one sheet of material...

i agree... people who put all this glitter onto their off road vehicles really dont run them as often as they should.... i have an idea, what happens if you like, use some of that glue that sprays onto stuff , and use it to coat the cf parts with a layer that the paint you use will hopefully stick to... back it with the most opaque white you can find then paint away...
