RE: ASP engines
Hey All, I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but sonce it is 4 stroke discussion, I am hoping someone can assist me. I have an ASP 52FS that has not run in about 3years. I broke the backplate and being in Dubai, parts are not easy to come by. Anyway, a friend of mine is going to bring some parts over for me. Until then, I decided to open it all up and give it a once over. When it las ran, I cleaned it all out and used after run oil befor packing it away. It had a lot of oil all over, and inside (practically soaked it) When I opened it up, I was shocked to see the nasty brown resin that has filled the bearings!! Like really bad. The questions I have are: Are there any tips/tricks to getting the liner out, and the same for the bearings. I know about heating the crankcase up a little, but that rear bearing running the timing gear looks like it is going to cause a few expletives...! If there are any build/fix threads, I would love to see 'em, but google has let me down here... :-) Lastly, anyone know the bearing sizes off hand for these things? I dont want to pay silly money for a timken or skf that should be readily available... Thank you Andy

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Yeah, just looking at 4 meter width and 300m....I can see this as being a problem.... Just a comment on the laptiming system...is the AMB system using the RClaps software? Does Arif have a number of house transponders?

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hey Tommy, Tried you last night, but you were on the yapper......engaged... I believe that space limitations could be the only thing to throw a stick in the works. I will keep you upated and will try your number again this evening. In the interim, thanks for the info, will feed it back to the peeps... If the space is too small, would it be worthwhile in your opinion? I know that as per the design that they have, the max track width that can be done is 3.5m and according to rules and regs online...it should be 4m. right?

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Tommy, Nope, I meant, come over to our rgular RC 'track' in Oud Metha.....we are still in the parking lots, not upgraded yet..but working on it..... We are near WAFI on Saturdays.......the reason I say come over, is because some of the guys that are behind the Automodex thing are regulars at the Saturday meets....they would be grateful to learn more about the buggy/truggy thing. Revo, I am not sure yet about the confirmation, and no, I am not really the guy to ask, but I am also keen to find out how many have registered.....

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Tommy, Revo... The process is well underway, and you can register on the site! http://www.automodex.com/rcparticipation.php There are rules and regs for all the classes. The comittee might need a little help on the classes for the buggies and truggies, and nitro stuff because we at the EP side of things are a little stooopid concerning that...I will see if I can put you in touch with the organisers. If you are not busy on Saturday afternoon, come down and visit us, some of the guys are heavily involved in this event. With regards to the event itself, it will be over 4 days, most of the RC stuff will occur in the evenings from 7pm....and culminate with the finals on the Friday...so even if you are working, you could come down in the evenings...

Hey Guys, Long time...... Have any of you registered for the Automodex event in March? They have off-road racing for buggies and truggies...... www.automodex.com I think there are quite a few guys from Dubdrift entered in the drifting, touring and mini action.... Sure, it is only a one-off event for 4 days, but it could be the start of something bigger....who knows.... CHeers

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hey Vinesh, Good to see you have a mini to run, make sure you get that M05 down there on Saturday, I wanto to check it out. I see that RCmart has M05 Pro back in stock which was supposed to be a limited issue kit. I am tempted, but still a little weary of that steering setup...i think lots of slop will develop there...but by all accounts, the reviews of the new chassis are good, and it seems that when set up well, will run quicker than an M03. I still like the M03 though... and they will be difficult to replace. The Zabeel park incident was weird.... went and met with the big noises at the Municipality and I never got a proper answer to why they chased us away...bottom line is we have a new playground, and there are options if that fails. Not sure I like being the 'leader' but it takes a small flame to light a big fire, so hopefully we can attract some new racers and eventually I am going to get a transponder set so we can get some real racing going on. For the time being though, we have 10 people who are 'fairly' regular riders and when the summer/vacation months are passed, I reckon there will be plenty more! See yer on Saturday

RE: Dubai - RC Events
ORIGINAL: rcpowerhorse just out of curiosity does anyone have short course trucks, like the slash or the sc10
Hey there. There are a few of us that have Slash's, we have not been driving them much during the summer months, too hot! We sometimes go down to the Nad Al Sheba track, but the track is designed for the larger scale nitro buggies so it is rather tough on the cars. Not only that, but the sand is VERY abrasive and the salt rusts everything up. Instead, we go out into the desert and mark up a small course and rag around there. Usually just 3 or 4 of us, but we have a good time. All of i are running Velineon brushless systems and they are really necessary in the sand. With a 7.4V LiPo power source, they are quick but need to be geared lightly as they are viscous on pinion gears, we normally go through a pinion or two in an afternoon but I am tyring different gearing and slipper clutch combos to combat that...at US$3 a pop it could get pricey. On 11.1V LiPo they are MAD....just want to wheelie all the time....so not really recommended except for the occasional laugh. The other guys have modded the hell out of their cars....alloy chassis, shocks, proline tires and whatnot..mine is still pretty much stock apart from shock towers and is still going....they are tough. Let us know if you want to join in, although probably not for the next 2 months as a result of the heat.....Instead, I am racing Tamiya Mini's, lotsa fun and lotsa laughs...

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Maniac, Ok, you guys carry on with the buggy track, I have no interest in buggies, so I suppose I am in the wrong place and assuming that you have no interest in anything RC but buggies, how could anybody fault you with doing whats best for you. I will hang with the drift guys for the interim, they seem to have a community interest there that is what the hobby is all about. Apart from that, we have the mini mayhem group that has expanded nicely, all going well, I will procure a lap timing system so that we can 'race' ...and the touring guys can get involved too. I am sure that the guys will enjoy having a few more folk join.....so anyone interested in the drift scene, or touring cars and most things electric, come over :-) http://dubdrift.forumotion.com/ Dont worry chap, none of my comments were ill-natured in anyway, I suppose the old saying "It takes many raindrops to make a thunderstorm" doesnt apply here. Tommy, is it a grub screw that you have stripped? If so, you may well be SOL feller.[&:] I have heard of people loosening the threadlock by heating it up, one of those gas lighters that look like a shuttle engine will probably do it well, and then file down an old 4mm hex key and see what you can make of it. HEHEHEHE, why did yer have ter tighten it so damn much in the first place...lol...too much nitrotestosterone in your system....hahahahah

RE: Dubai - RC Events
All very good and well maniac, last I heard the reason for the new flying strip being made was because the old Nad Al Sheba site was destined for destruction as a result of the Meydan project, and although some of the project seems to have slowed, it doesnt mean it isn't going to happen. So why go spend time, effort and money on something that may still get bulldozed. I hear you when you say meeting meeting meeting and bla bla bla, but you were conspicuous by your abscence at the last meeting we had. The meeting was not just about buggies, and YES, I know this is a buggy thread but it was also about other disciplines of RC. There are many drifters, on-road enthusiasts, crawlers and 1/5th scale drivers who would also like to have some facilities. The creation of a club would allow us to all chip in with valid points, discuss the merits and failures of past experiences TOGETHER. As Tommy said, keep the two topics mutually exclusive for now, and concentrate on finding out just how many people we have in this hobby, that can all contribute. Unless of course, you would prefer to read the forum, say nothing whilst everything else is going on and then come out with your dislike of other peoples intentions. A club needs an orderly process to bring these topics to the fore, so that people lke Rashed et al, get to know that there is a desire to interact, so that we can find out what is available for us to work with. It does not help to have everyone stand up and inflict their opinions on everyone else, and this applies to a club too...no meeting should occur unless there is an official who can guide the meetings, conduct votes and make decisions that everyone agrees on, or the majority rules. So, are we going to see you on Friday afternoon? Internet forums, Instant messaging and text message do not convey emotions, so please read the above, not as a personal dig at you, but rather as an intention to make a point with regards to the discussion topic. Regards

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Greetings all, Tomorrow (tuesday) there will be a few peeps down at Zabeel 5 doing a bit of mini-mayhem, if anyone wants to join in, please let me know. We normally start around 18h00 and get an hour and a half. I see earlier somebody noted that this is a 1/8 Buggy Thread and I apologise for hijacking it with mini, touring car and club info, but until we have a forum in place for all things Dubai related, it would be nice to use this one to keep track. If the topic starter wants me to move the info elsewhere please let me know. Regards P.S Having a look back at some of my comments, I realised that mentioning that the hobby shops are disinterested, might have been seen to include Rashed's effort (when he owned Emirates Hobbies), this is of course not the case. Certainly there is a place for the hobby shops to get more involved, but I am sure that I speak for everyone here, that Rashed's efforts have not gone unnoticed, and are appreciated, especially by the buggy guys. Thought I would clear that up.

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hi Rashed, Nice to see you are still around.....and would be better to see you stay around :-) I have no interest in the past, and not sure who sponsored who and when as who's races, but it seems highly irrelevant at this point as to who is sponsored and who is not....bottom line is this. We have no facilities and we have no organisation, so all the personal sponsorship in the world will achieve you precisely...NOTHING. So first things first....lets get the club up and running, get the website up and running and then collectively go about getting a facility to use. Rashed, I dont believe we have been formally introduced, but I think we met at the Nad Al Sheba track one night when a few of us were running the Slash around the course. Anyway, I hope you can get to the meeting next week, your vision, plans and work thusfar are important to the future effort. On a more important note......Mini-madness today at Zabeel became simply MADNESS!!! :-) and a lot of fun. At one point we had the following on the track: The 'Blue Streak' (mini) piloted by Graham....lunatic as always. Rockin Red Ferrari (tourer) piloted by Rawwad...he has finally accepted the fact that the bodywork IS going to get caned. The 'Mobile Chicane" Buggy (buggy) piloted by Colin....what the hell was a buggy doing on a tarmac track anyway??? 'Silent Fury' Alfa (tourer) piloted by Ed...made is all look like we were stationary, but got victimised in the end :-) 'Screamer' Mini with Martin at the helm...Marty, get some grease in that gearbox mate :-) Super Swift (Mini).....which I personally piloted to victory....of course We also had Paulo with his 2 speed nitro tourer, and on a tight little technical course....he never stood a chance....glad he never challenged any of us to a drag race!! Bottom line, we all had a blast, and look forward to a few more people in the future. Next week will see the return of Duane and Gergle, COlin has a mini on the production line and Ed has the Alfa under repair.....that means that next week, we could see a total of SEVEN mini's tearing up the track!!! At this rate we will need to introduce a touring car lineup as well, so to all of you with electric tourers, dust 'em off and get amongst it!! Over and Out!

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Mister-e, Already tried the hobby shops, they are not interested, and will remain uninterested until it is commercially viable for them, or a priority. As of now, an RC club in Dubai is of little or no use to them. If we prove successful, they will rue that decision and there are people who ARE interested and see the long term benefits. I believe that plans are afoot. In the interim, we need all the RC nutz to gather ...bring the clans together LOL This weekend could be a bit quiet from a racing point of view, but I might be able to amass some takers for some touring car action. Saturday at Zabeel...all the drifters will be there anyway. Regards

Hey Dave, Great work on the site, it is looking good! I will do a review on some products, will try to get it done in the next day or so. With regards to the ABOUT US section, perhaps have a chat with Tommygun. We did go over some if this at the meeting the other day and he will have some opinions I am sure. Alternatively, lets bring it up in the next meeting? Create a 'Mission Statement' of sorts. With regards to the forum, one of the other guys had mentioned different categories and we also covered this to some degree in the last meeting. Have a word with El Presidente :-) Good job, and if you need any help at all, I am willing to contribute! Regards

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Rockinro, Will see what the rest of the squad say about Al Wasl, at this point it is just a thought, will need to have a look at it closer to be sure, but in the interim we should hang at Zabeel on the weekend, simply because some of the drift lads are going to get mini's and there is always a crowd there....for recruiting purposes, you see. Just go and get the mini....'nuff said. I have a few tourers too, but you really need a bigger track for them....I will bring one along this weekend, but I will have to dial it down a bit, it has a brushless motor and goes like the clappers. I have worn out all the crappy tamiya pinions for it as well, aluminium doesnt stand a chance agains the BL power, so I ordered a couple of STEEL robinson racing ones last night.....that should sort it out.. 500 posts, mmm, we need to get those on the uaercclub site....need everyone to join up there but I think Bigdave is still working on the site ...

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Here's a question for potential racing area... On Al Wasl Rd, approaching Spinneys, going towards Jebel Ali, there is an open area that is completely tarred. It often has debris, rocks, broken glass and the normal vandal rubbish that goes along with it....I reckon a few brooms on the day, a few strategically placed markers and you have a decent park. It might be easier for the guys that live in the springs etc.. My 50 fils..

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Yeah, the 'Blue Streak' was a cause for concern, but then again, with your long wheel base, 4WD tourer.....there is only one way to even the odds, and that is through a process of 'elimination' lol You need to make sure the servo horn is compatible with the servo gear....I know that the Hitec servo gears LOOK like the Futaba ones, but they are a lightly different size which leads to the horn skipping splines....seems like the prob you were having. Tamiya dont include hitec servo horns in the kits. I think Greg is away this weekend, but Duane should be back and I will ask the 'Blue Streak' pilot to join in....you need to get a mini....time to visit the hobby shops.. Send

RE: Dubai - RC Events
All, Agreed on all points, although the 'costs' of maintaining a track and all the amenities would need to come later, as we simply dont know what all we are going to be catering for, as bigdave had so rightfully mentioned, we cannot segregate with only buggies or planes or drifting, we would need to consolidate so that the VOICE is bigger. I do feel though, the airplane guys have what appears to be (please correct me if I am wrong) some facilities and some backing of some sort...airfield at Nad Al Sheba and one out at Al Ain. Sure the one at Nad Al Sheba is destined for destruction, but already the establishment of a new field is done and dusted. I would be tempted to establish the 'groundpounding' nature of the hobby to start with and go from there....it can only get better if we can tap into their resources and vice versa, so it grows. For a meeting, a clear agenda is required and should be represented by all 'franchises'. It should be minuted and action plan based on discussion be circulated between all. With bigdaves establishment of a local site, all interested enthusiasts should be encouraged to join as 'associate' members so that we can start getting a feel for numbers and the growth pattern. I dont know if any of the drifters are aware of this forum, but I am a member of dubdrift so I will go and pass on the info to their member 'altimeters' and ask him and his squad to keep an eye on the new site... Agenda for meeting Meet and greet Establish representation and contacts for Dubai and Abu Dhabi - Nitro, Electric etc etc (Volunteers required) Point all representatives to joining the online club. Establish a group leader (at this point, SOMEBODY needs to step up to the plate - there is no hierarchy in a 'virtual' club, but at some point it is VITAL, later by means of vote!) Establish a way of informing all members of developments. Background of available resources (we all have jobs and expertise, all these might be useful to the club and its running at some point, all contributions, no matter how small, all add up!) Suggestions on planning for tracks, venues and competitions. Determine calendar dates for future meetings so that we all have a vision. AGM once a year, monthly progress meetings (maybe one in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai around the same time) Thats a simplistic view.....and I wil volunteer now to help minute the initial meeting...Tommy, Mister-e and Rashed seem to hold the reigns right now...anyone care to put your name down as an inaugural leader? (Gotta start somewhere) It might also be useful if anyone has any experience with past RC clubs, challenges faced and hurdles....to view those issues in the meeting as well. I am open to Fridays as a start point, and being devoid of family and kids, I have some time on my hands outside of work hours.... :-) Regards

Its AWESOME that in a few days we have a website admin, an Abudhabi representative who is guiding the rc goods down there... So now, although a weekend diving on the east coast fits in nicely with my other hobby.....it's probably not the best forum to get anything done....how about just a friendly gathering at some restaurant/coffee shop/ (dare I say it )bar/pub and see who all is involved, get an idea of everyones reasons for being here, and reasons why to get such a club going. Maybe the guys in AD can do something there since they seem to have a club going already, and the dubai guys have a gathering here.... We can then unite for a monthly meeting later....

Dave, you beat me too it!! I was just scoping out uaenic.com for some domain names. I have little knowledge of web design, but I am defo keen on helping out if you need any. BTW I was looking for the domain bkrc.ae (bended-knee rc) LOL ....but that is more for the nitro guys because they spend most of their time on 'bended-knee' getting their engines running :-) I was also checking out some forum apps but it seems they are all quite expensive and heavy maintenance, and yuku is, well....yukky yuku. It would be nice to have a forum locally tho, that appeals to all aspects of our hobby. I dont want to start the RC-segregation game, but are you going to concentrate on surface, air or everything? Nice work chap.....do you think I should stick my neck out and try to get some people to a meeting?....a pre-cursor to club development? Andy

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Jun, Agree 100% again with everything you say, EXCEPT the point you make about a "gutsy" individual, or investor as you call it. An investor is someone who invests money, with the goal of MAKING money, not losing it. An investor would need to see a business plan that over a period of time would result in the business he invested in becoming succesful, not failing. It seems that everyone is waiting for a rich business man to drop into town, see that there is no track for him to play with his toys, and drop a pile of cash into it......and we all know what happens then.....nobody wants to pay the membership fees for the upkeep of the facilities, the electricity and water. Nobody wants to hold or attend meetings, everybody just EXPECTS competitions to be organised, sponsors should come running begging for their products to be displayed and offered as prizes. This never happens, and we have another creek park on our hands. So now, you are busy organising a track in Abu Dhabi at the new Motor Centre there, Tommygun and Rashed are working on the Lisaili track, the drifters are busy working the Zabeel D1 track :-) and I am campaigning to get some mini and touring car action.....now do you see about the lack of unity?......and where are the hobby shops? I mean, the guys who we buy kits from and provide with a living.....also out somewhere doing their own thing, right? Creating a club, with a confirmed number of members, and an organisational comittee would provide some strength to the argument "WE NEED SOME RC FACILITIES!" Then people might listen and realise that there is a need. Until then...no-way. I am not sure what it required from the authorities in order to establish an organisation like this, and I mean by this, just a group...no warehouse, no fees and funds changing hands.....but just to start a group....anyone have any ideas? First things first.....dubairchobbies.net is dead and buried, I have contacted the webmaster, and last I heard, he was in Australia? I will pay for a new domain for RC hobbies in the UAE, does anyone here have some web building skills....? If all else fails......maybe I will come and join your airsoft club....do you have facilities and a clubhouse? [:)] (joke, right) Andy

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hey Mister-e, When I say unite, I dont mean 'merging',more of a case of having a similar interest, after all, they are the ones who would benefit and at the end of the day, it is their 'bread and butter' so to speak. There are cases UK and US where the hobby shops all want to be involved, but cannot single handedly shoulder the costs of building and maintaining a track or venue, so they collaborate where possible and basically share job. You are 100% correct that it is the community that drives it though, so has anyone set up a CLUB yet? Apart from the drift guys, and this site, I know of no meetings, discussions, events or community gatherings. But there certainly is some interest, and probably more than I have ever seen. The guys who started building/preparing the track on the Al-Ain road are obviously serious about getting something going....so how about we all meet somewhere and get the discussion on.....we select a club organiser, and leader....we just need to get the ball rollin' :-) and then as a UNIT, we approach the hobby shops....and find a venue and sponsors to support it.....

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hi RC nuts. I never got round to the Kartdrome yesterday, got into some other issues that took precedence...not only that but did anyone else take note of the outside temp yesterday?!!?? 48 degrees!... Anyway, I have got 5 people on the mini mailing list so this week I will be sending out an official 'newsletter'. Anyone else wanting to keep abreast of all things mini, send me a PM with your mail address. Junpavidis, I agree with you that it takes a 'gutsy' person to do this, but there is normally a little more involved than being gutsy. I would love to be manager of such an organisation....BUT....would it be my job, or my hobby? If it is my job, it would need to provide money the same way any job would. If it is a hobby, how much time could I dedicate to it before it ruins my job? :-) Bottom line is this, RC will NOT succeed in the UAE unless the hobby shops get involved (show some unity, UNITE!) and all have a bite out of the apple. The community needs to get involved to help organise and run events as well as SUPPORT the hobby shops.....as I mentioned before....chicken and egg situation. This forum is a step forward.....we need to be able to interact in a COMMUNITY forum...the drifters have their site at rcdrift (dubdrift) but I think the guys are mostly Phillipino so they chat in Filipino (Tagalog?) so I have a hard time following...this is actually a buggy thread and then we have the aircraft guys....all the people are flung far and wide across the interwebs...no unity :-( Who wants to start a local forum?
